According to Wikipedia Confidence is the feeling of belief or trust that a person or thing is reliable.
Self-confidence is trust in oneself. Self-confidence involves a positive belief that one can generally accomplish what one wishes to do in the future.
Self-confidence is not the same as self-esteem, which is an evaluation of one’s worth. Self-confidence is related to self-efficacy—belief in one’s ability to accomplish a specific task or goal.
Confidence can be a self-fulfilling prophecy, as those without it may fail because they lack it, and those with it may succeed because they have it rather than because of an innate ability or skill.

Today’s lesson brings to an end our study of the book of Philippians. You would recall that in chapter 1, we learnt that there is joy in living for Christ [Phil 1:12]. Then we talked about the right attitude in serving Christ in unity; without complaints, or unnecessary arguments [Phil 2:14]. In chapter 3, we went on to discuss the joy in knowing Christ. We were told that our focus should be the finishing line and that means reigning with Christ in eternity [Phil 3:13-14].
For today, we will concern ourselves with the joy in resting in Christ Jesus. To accomplish this, there is need to show contentment, always [Phil 4:11]; our circumstance notwithstanding. There are three [3] outlines as detailed below.
OUTLINE 1: FINDING REST BY RESOLVING CONFLICT. [Phil 4:2-5]
• Euodias and Syntyche [both women] had a dispute/conflict. Apostle Paul urged both to settle their disagreement because they are of the same mind with God. Phil 4:2, Phil 2:2.
• In Phil 4:3, Paul called for the intervention of the brethren in resolving the dispute. He acknowledged that these women worked with him in spreading the good news. He acknowledged that spreading the gospel opens the door for your name to be written in the Book of Life. Rev 20:15.
• In Phil 4:4, Paul urged us to be full of joy no matter the circumstance. Recall that he wrote this letter to the Philippians in captivity; yet he was full of joy knowing that the work of God was progressing. The beauty of being filled with joy always is that, the possibility of conflicts would be obliterated; since there will be no space in your soul for other vices such as found in Gal 5:19-21. 1 Corinthians 6:20.
• In Phil 4:5, he talks about moderation or gentleness. Doing things in a manner that will not distract others from focusing on God. This is a pointer to Jesus Christ in the way He humbled Himself [Phil 2:8]. We should live with the assurance that He will soon return to take us home. Gal 5:22-23.
OUTLINE 2: FINDING REST THROUGH PREVAILING PRAYER. [Phil 4:6-7]
• In verse 6, the Bible says we should be anxious for nothing. It is a command and not an option. Matthew 6:26-28 serves as a guide. Rather in EVERYTHING, we should through [prevailing] prayers present to God. Do not take anything for granted. Our attitude should be to pray about everything and be thankful for anything. Remember, Jesus Christ always gave thanks. John 11:41, Luke 22:19.
• For verse 7, three [3] things stand out: the peace of God, surpasses all understanding and keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Peace is indeed a gift from God. Surpasses all understanding brings to the fore our limitations in comprehending the ways of God [Isaiah 55:8] and keeping our hearts speaks to strengthening our faith in Jesus Christ [Hebrews 11:6].
OUTLINE 3: FINDING REST BY RENEWING YOUR MIND. [Phil 4:8-9]
• Verse 8 tells us the right place to put our minds. Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 10:5 lends credence to where our minds should dwell. No doubt, these virtues in Phil 4:8 are embedded in the fruit of the spirit in Gal 5:22-23.
• Phil 4:9. What is the essence of teaching or learning or receiving or seeing if we are not able to put same into practice? Let us be followers of Christ just as Apostle Paul followed Him. 1 Corinthians 4:17, Psalm 25:4
CONCLUSION.
If we follow and work according to the teachings in the book of Philippians, the result will be as captured in Phil 4:13. Therefore, what do we need to excel in this work? We have the assurance that God will supply all you need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus [Phil 4:19]

Good morning dearly beloveth and welcome to a beautiful morning. Though we are not meeting this morning for fellowship, we will have enough time for an individual fellowship with the ALL-POWERFUL GOD for deeper one -on- one fellowship with Him, an intimacy which He desires from us His bona-fide children in Jesus’ name.
One great lesson any child of destiny should learn from 2 KINGS 6 v 13 -14, is never to be discouraged. After repeated defeats, the king of Syria Still sent his soldiers after Elisha. Some of us give up too soon. The only way you can be assured of victory in any endeavour is by keeping your doors permanently closed on discouragement.
Everyone goes through moments of disappointment or discouragement, but how you handle it, is what determines what you are made of.
David and his men encountered discouragement in a formidable way. They returned home one day and found that their wives and children had become slaves and their city razed down by fire. They did not know where to start (1 SAMUEL 30 v 1 -19).
Leaders must be careful not to express discouragement especially in the midst of their subordinates. As leaders, you should have a Word of hope for the hopeless and stir up faith in the faithless. If the wind of discouragement that sweeps over a congregation also prevails over the leadership, then Satan would have a field day.
Whenever the spirit of discouragement comes, what does it intend to accomplish? It takes your focus from God to the problem contrary to HEBREWS 12 v 2. If you concentrate on the problem at hand, it will be magnified.
Discouragement paints a picture of impossibility-that nothing can be done to remedy the situation contrary to LUKE 1 v 37. No matter how bad your case is, something can be done.
The One who specialises in turning the Impossible to become possible is around you, and if you can call on the ALL-POWERFUL GOD today, He will presently send help.
Also, discouragement makes you lose the tears you should shed for joy to sorrow. Remember, whenever you weep as a result of discouragement, you lose something precious. Discouragement robs you of strength, hope and direction.
Hence you should put all major decisions on hold when discouraged. Discouragement blinds you to the solution to your problem. Hagar was discouraged and feeling hopeless; hence she could not see the well of providence beside her (GENESIS 21 v 9 – 20).
Discouragement finally teams up with the spirit of suicide and tells you there’s nothing to live for, go and commit suicide: Ahithophel a typical example (2 SAMUEL 17 v 21 – 23). Don’t kill yourself!
Beloved, you have a lot to live for. That end of the road is actually the beginning of your turning point-the beginning of your greatness. You are not alone.
Help is locating you from above. Recount God’s mercies, thank Him, reject the spirit of discouragement and receive God’s guidance. You will recover all you have lost in Jesus’ name.
Dearly beloved, some people are made of steel, some of wood and others of stubble. Your attitude to disappointment and discouragement reveals what you are made of.

TEXT: HEBREWS 9:24-28
The story of Lazarus and the rich man in the Bible fits well into our topic today, teaching us that delay in taking decisions that have eternal consequences can bring irreversible danger. The rich man would have had opportunities to accept Jesus but thinking that it is not yet time, he delayed and died. Eternal rest in the bosom of father Abraham was denied him. He cried and pleaded for mercy but it was too late. The time of mercy had passed, now is time for judgment.
There is time for everything like Ecclesiastes 3:1 confirms. The time to repent and obtain mercy is before death, anyone who delays and death strikes; mercy is denied forever. Since no one knows the day death will come or the rapture, then it is wise to choose Christ today to avoid the danger of hell. There is no amount of plea that can reverse God’s judgment, no one can repent in the grave. After death, mercy is no more, only judgment. Do not delay your salvation, so you will not be denied eternal rest with Jesus.
