NOT ALL THINGS ARE LAWFUL. Abstain From All Appearances Of Evil.
“All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are l awful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.” 1 Corinthians: 6:12
The matter of drunkenness is one of the most misunderstood topics even among born again children of God. What is the difference between when you were an unbeliever and now that you are a believer? You use to drink Brandy or Schnapps and now you still drink it. You say Bros you know I only drink a little, I am not getting drunk. All drunkards started with a sip. The Bible says abstain from all appearances of evil.
In your house is a bar with assorted alcoholic drinks and you tell me it is one of those things. You are a social drinker because you think if you do not drink you cannot fit into the crowd, that is what I call situational ethics. Beloved, get rid of it. Choose to be a believer 24/7.
Irrespective of where you are, be the light. Let your light so shine before men for that is the only way you will stand out. In fact, you will not have to preach to people, people will naturally seek your God. Part of spirituality is to decide not to eat something because you don’t want somebody else to fall. The Bible says all things are lawful but not all things are expedient.
In other words, I decide not to drink even though I know I am not usually drunk when I drink because if an unbeliever sees me he will think I am still the same. So I will not be held in bondage by that drink. I will throw it away so that my brother can go to heaven. That is maturity.
Child of God, it may not be wrong to do what you are about to do, but if it will send a wrong message to the unbeliever or the immature, then don’t do it. Don’t ever be the cause of another person’s fall. Ask yourself: what I am about to do, will I do it proudly in front of Jesus? If Jesus were to come in physically, will I still do it? If the answer is no, then don’t do it. Remember, it might even be lawful, but is it expedient? May the Lord help us be the shining example in our world.
