Yield To The LORD’s Discipline!

You must submit to (and) endure (correction) for discipline; God is dealing with you as with sons. For what son is there whom his father does not (thus) train (and) correct (and) discipline? (Hebrews 12:7 AMP).

Even though you have the Holy Spirit, if you’re not acquainted with Him, your manner of life wouldn’t reflect the character of the Spirit. This is because it’s the Holy Spirit that helps you discipline your mind. Therefore, you have to yield your mind to Him in order to be able to reflect His character. This is done through fellowship with the Spirit and submission to the Lordship of the Word of God!

There’s a kind of piousness that’s expected of a Christian. Your actions and choice of words should depict that you’re acquainted with the Holy Spirit. You may be a gifted individual, however if you’re not disciplined your gift wouldn’t achieve God’s desired objective. It makes no difference whether or not you’re gifted singer, preacher, teacher or prophet, if you don’t yield yourself to the tutorship or discipline of the Holy Spirit, He can’t work with you.

The first time Saul, king of Israel prophesied was after he was anointed by Samuel as king (1 Samuel 10:11). The next time he prophesied was after God had rejected him as king. According to the Bible, the Spirit of God had departed from him at that time, yet he prophesied like a prophet. He was rejected because he wasn’t disciplined! The fact that you’re still functioning in your gift doesn’t mean God is pleased with you. In other words, gift without discipline is worthless.

Your closeness to God isn’t evident in your use of religious terminologies or in the many words you use when you pray; rather, it’s whether or not God is pleased with you. The Bible tells us that an ass received a gift of revelation from God to warn the erring prophet, yet, it was just an animal (2 Peter 2:16). So you see, the kind of gift you’re operating in is not what matters the most to God. The important thing is to yield to the Holy Spirit, and submit to His training. The expression of the lifting nature of Christ in you is cultivated in your life as you yield yourself to the Holy Spirit. Let Him discipline you and bring out the character of Christ in your life.

Dear Heavenly Father! You are the Father of spirits therefore I yield to Your Spirit, and ask that You reprove my presumption, correct my mistakes and instruct me in your Holy Word, that I may be perfect and thoroughly furnished unto all good works, in Jesus Christ Name I pray! Amen!
