Let My Thoughts Be Acceptable

Let My Thoughts Be Acceptable

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer
Psalm 19:14

The Hebrew word translated as heart is also widely translated as intellect or mind, so this can read, “Let the…meditation of my mind be acceptable in thy sight.”

When God tells you to meditate day and night, He is not telling you to do something that you don’t do already. There are thoughts whirling around in your mind all the time. God is just telling you to change your thought diet to meditate on the Word instead of on junk.

In this Psalm, David recognizes that God can see his thoughts. David prays, “Lord, let my thoughts be acceptable to you.” The word acceptable also means “to delight” and “to be pleasing.” David is saying, “Lord, my prayer is that my thoughts be pleasing and delightful to you.”
