God Loves Me Just The Way I Am, He Does Not Condemn Me
“That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”
Ephesians 5:27 (KJV)
One of the things the devil does is make us uncomfortable in the presence of Jesus. Sometimes, even in times of worship, he digs up a weakness or an area of struggle in our lives and makes us feel like we don’t have the right to worship. Then we find ourselves losing the joy we had earlier.
However, you should come into God’s presence with a consciousness of Jesus, His forgiveness, and His grace. In the Old Testament, when people brought their offerings to a priest, the priest examined the animal sacrifices to ensure they had no blemishes. He never examined the sinners. If a given animal was without blemish, God accepted the sacrifice. In the same way, when you approach God, God does not examine you. He sees you through the full value and the loveliness and acceptance of His Son (Ephesians 1:6). God sees you as being holy and without blemish.
Like today’s text says, you are glorious, without spot or wrinkle. You are holy without blemish. In Luke 7:36-50, we read the story of a woman who was a sinner and came to Jesus as she was. She was Jesus-conscious and not self-conscious. She was not bothered by her own sin and unworthiness; instead, she was consumed with her love for Jesus. All she had heard about Jesus was that He was doing good. She had never heard of Him condemning or stoning anyone, so she came to Him in her unworthiness; and she therefore received the forgiveness she needed.
Whatever your need is, come to God as you are. Don’t try to get things right before coming. Don’t try to partially atone for your sins before approaching Him. A songwriter once said, “Just as I am without one plea”. That is the way to come. When you come to Him this way and fall at His feet in worship, acknowledging Him for whom He is, you will hear Him say, “Go your way. Your restoration has come. Your prosperity is here. You are healed. You have been made whole.”
