Think Before You Make A Vow.

Philippians_4-8: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Ecclesiastes 5: 6
Revelation 7: 16-17

The Holy Word said it all – better not vow than to vow and not pay. The act of vowing is a serious business especially before God. God is not a man. He likes to deal with serious-minded Christians. When you make a vow to God or to man do not delay to pay it for He has no pleasure in fools.

The Christian should think before making a vow to God. Spoken words are powerful. As such do not be rash with your mouth and let not your heart utter anything hastily before God, for God is in Heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few (Eccl. 5:2 ). Vows are voluntarily made not by compulsion.

It is good to make a vow to God. Vows compel God to answer you when made with the right motive. Hannah and Jephthah made Vows to God respectively and they got marvelous responses from God. Try making a vow but think before doing it.

And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord. Hear Jephthah again in Judges 11:37 “For I have given my word to the Lord and I cannot go back on it.” Real children of God will stick and honour their vows to God. Vows once made are binding.

Matthew 5:37 “But let your yes be yes and your no, no.”

PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, help me not to relent when I make a vow, help me to fulfill my vows. Amen.

It Is No Surprise To God.

Psalms_46-10: Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth

“But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph…”

In life, we all have to deal with the unexpected. Just because we are believers, just because we are good people or doing the right thing doesn’t make us exempt from trouble. The scripture says, “The rain falls on the just and the unjust.” In times when something unexpected happens, or you find yourself facing a crisis, you don’t have to go into “panic mode” or fall apart emotionally. Remember, that crisis is no surprise to God. It may be unexpected to you, but God knows the end from the beginning. He has solutions to problems that you haven’t even had. He has equipped you for every battle, and He goes before you making your crooked places straight.

Today, focus on the fact that God is with you. Remember that He is walking with you and guiding you to a place of peace and victory. No matter what has happened, He will take what the enemy meant for evil and turn it around for your good! That circumstance is no surprise to God, and He has the answer for you!

“Heavenly Father, I come to You with an open and humble heart. Thank You for the victory that You have in store for me even when I can’t see it. I choose to trust You and Your goodness knowing that You are faithful in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

The Right Worship.

Psalms_9-1: I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

Ephesians. 5:15-21

The people called Christians have become the epicenter of lifestyles that cause people to either emulate or criticize them. When it is worthy of emulation, then the world must have seen something useful about it especially when it strikes the right chords with them. However, it also attracts sharp criticism when it goes the wrong direction. In our worship of the Lord, we either portray Him in the right way or the other way.

The right worship God expects from us is that which will glorify Him before the world. We are neither to live loosely nor indulge in any form of lifestyle that negates the kingdom we belong to. The passage spells out some things for us to observe if we must worship the Lord rightly. We need to understand what the will of God is for us and do them. We need to avoid not only drunkenness, but also its indulgence. We cannot serve God with the wrong lifestyle. It does not glorify the name of the Lord and does not make people see right. If people cannot see the godlike character in us, we cannot say we are worshipping the Lord.

The right worship is living right, such that our light would shine before others such that the world may see it and glorify our Father in heaven Matt. 5:15. In Eph. 5 verse 19, our output should be in speaking in Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. In the world today, worldly songs have permeated our hearts and minds. Even some so-called gospel musicians no longer give us the spiritual type of music; they are only out to show their artistry in singing and not to minister. Finally, note verse 21 which admonishes us to submit one to another in the fear of the Lord, not to show who is greater, because the proud will always be far from the Lord.

MEMORY VERSE:
Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

PRAYER:
Heavenly, Father, help me to live the right type of life that will give glory to Your mighty name, in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

The Perfect Man

1-John_4-12: No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

Psalm 15:1-5

The first Psalm of David is very significant. Coming up in the Psalter immediately after Psalm 14 about sinners, the Psalmist gives conditions to commune with God or to find His favour.

Ten conditions are given and they are:
He(or she) that walks uprightly;
He that is righteous;
He that does not backslide;
He that does no evil;
He that does not take up reproach against his neighbor;
He who condemns a vile (or evil) person;
He that honours and fears the Lord;
He that stands by his word or vow no matter the situation;
He who does not oppress the poor and the less-privileged in the society.
He who does not benefit by helping the innocent or accept bribe to do something.

Though there are a lot more that are expected of us as Christians, many of those who call themselves Christian will fail this test. Are you walking uprightly as a Christian? Are you righteous? Are you not a talebearer? Is it not only on Sundays that you behave as Christian? What happens in your business when you are the boss or in your business when you sell at highly inflated price? Do you say the truth especially where saying the truth may adversely affect your fortunes? When you make a vow, do you always fulfill it? Can you do self-examination as David did in Ps 26?

We need to do self-examination to find out if we are still on the side of Christ. If your score card is below God’s “cut-off mark” of 100 per cent, you need to put on the new man and put the old man in you to death.

PRAYER:

Father, Eternal, help me to be counted worthy to reign eternally with You in heaven for Christ’s sake. Amen.

Sacrifice Of Praise

Psalms_113-3: From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised

1 Samuel 2: 1-11

Every time I read the story of Hannah and her vow to the Lord and the fact that she fulfilled the vow, I am always amazed by her action. Very many people do not see the fact that she did something significant and worthy to be noted. This woman gave her first son, the first fruit of her body to the Lord as a gift or better put – sacrifice. I tried to imagine what happened when she wanted to break the news to Elkanah, her husband. I tried to picture the scene that happened when she took the young boy from home all the way to Shiloh and wondered the scenario of leaving Samuel in the temple to live there for the rest of his life! This deal had been concluded, the sacrifice had been made. She asked the Lord for a son and that has been given. She was not sure if another one would follow. Would she need to make another vow for another child?

The second chapter which we read tells us that she still sang a song of praise to the Lord in the presence of the congregation in the temple. That means she gave to the Lord with her whole heart and with everything with her. The gift was not with any form of doubt; it was not out of compulsion, but by self-will, she did not look back. O what a true sacrifice of praise!

When you give something to the Lord or fulfil your vows to God, what is your mindset? Is it with praise or with regret? Maybe you think you shouldn’t have promised that kind of vow? Maybe God should understand that the vow would be difficult to fulfil and should overlook it. Hannah made good her vow and the Lord added blessings the more to her. Every time sacrifice is with praise to the Lord, you can be assured that God will exceed your expectations. Your sacrificial praise will always increase what you will get from the Lord.

MEMORY VERSE:

Psalm 116:17-18 “I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call upon the name of the Lord. I will pay my vows to the Lord now in the presence of all His people.”

PRAYER:

Lord God, open my heart to Your gracious love and help me to always realize that You are the source of all I have. Also help me to give to You with joy in my heart in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

Every child of God who is yet to be baptized in the Holy Ghost is lacking something

Acts_1-8: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Acts 19:1-12

The will of the Father is for us all to receive fully the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. However, when Paul got to Ephesus, he discovered that some of the disciples there were probably operating in a certain way that made him to notice some inadequacies. This must have compelled him to ask the important question if they had yet received the Holy Ghost to which they answered in the negative. They only knew about John’s Baptism.

Paul concluded that the issue is not complete at all and sought to do something about it. Every child of God who is yet to be baptized in the Holy Ghost is lacking something, and that is the enabling power promised by Jesus Christ in Acts 1:8 which says that we shall receive power when the Holy Ghost comes upon us. It will turn us into witnesses to the ends of the earth. This was what happened in Acts 4:8 after Peter and John healed a lame man at the Beautiful gate [Acts 3] and people came near to hear them and in Chapter 4, the priests, Sadducees and captains came to arrest them. Rather than cower, Peter spoke with boldness in verse 8. Why? Because he had been filled with the Holy Ghost.

If you have not received the Holy Spirit, something is lacking in your Christianity. Living the Christian life to the full may not be possible. Speaking the Word of God with boldness may be hindered and making the right impact may become impossible.
Are you filled with the Holy Spirit? If not you can be filled right now. Desire the Holy Spirit and ask Him to come and fill you to the brim and He will respond to you, if your heart is without idols (sin).

Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

PRAYER:

Lord, release unto me now, the Holy Spirit, to empower me and make me live the right life for You from today and evermore in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Examine Yourself, Child Of God.

Psalms_26-2: Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.

2 Corinthians 13:1-6

A man went to see the physician for a medical examination and treatment one day and the Doctor, discovering that a disease had gone far in him, asked him why he waited that long before seeking for medical help. The man felt completely lost. He had to undergo a more serious treatment to get through. The menace of people dropping dead due to heart attack, heart failure and many other preventable sicknesses made the medical world today to advocate that we go for medical check-up from time to time.

The same thing is with our spiritual life. We need to daily examine ourselves to be sure that we have not derailed from the pathway of the Lord Jesus Christ. We need to daily review ourselves and be sure we have not lost the faith. We have to use the Word of the Lord to scan our lives to be sure all is well. It is not to judge or condemn us, sending us into a corner and saying that we are sinners, rather, it is to help us discover that we are still on the right path.

Christians derail gradually, not suddenly and except we examine our lives, we could have gone overboard before we know it. When David fell into sin, it was because he was not conscious of his own lifestyle and spiritual status: he did not take note of what was happening and had gone too far before he realized his error.

When you examine your life daily, you will be able to nip in the bud the ugly end or experience you are passing through and avoid the misery you are presently having or that may come in the future. Give nothing to chance; make no assumption. Be sure of your state and take the right steps. God bless you.

Hopeful!

Jeremiah_17-7-2: Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

I Samuel 12:16-22

Imagine you were driving your car and the fuel got finished, or you discovered you have a flat tyre, how do you feel? The position where people want to work but there is no tool, can be disturbing as well. The Israelites, under the command of King Saul and Jonathan, came to fight against the Philistines, but had no weapon to fight with. They had to go a long way to sharpen their weapons for the war. They even had to go to their enemies, the Philistines, to sharpen them. It was really a bad situation, but not hopeless.

Variously, we have come into situations that got us down-cast, where nothing appeared to be working for us. In fact, we, find that which should have been an easy ride suddenly turned sour. Things may seem very bad sometimes, but it is not totally hopeless.

The case of the woman with the issue of blood was bad, but not hopeless [Matt. 9:20-22].The lame man who had been sick for 38 bad years and could not get into the pool [John 5:5-8] waiting for the stirring of the waters by the angel was bad, but not hopeless. The siege of Samaria in those days was a bad situation that brought about severe famine where people ate their own children, was bad but not hopeless (2Kings 6:24ff).The case of dead Lazarus for four days stinking [John 11:39] was terribly bad, but not hopeless.

Your situation may be bad by your assessment, but it is not as bad as you think it is because the Lord will not forsake you in your situation. Even your sins are not seen by the Lord as a reason to punish you; it is your rejection of salvation that will send you into judgment. The prodigal son’s situation was bad but not hopeless. The Lord is always merciful as we have seen in the case of the Israelites and the examples alluded to here. So The Lord will not forsake you as long as a mother cannot forsake her child.

1 Samuel 12:22– For the Lord will not forsake His people for His great name’s sake: because it hath pleased the Lord to make you His people.

PRAYER:

Unquantifiable Love of God.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16-21

John 3:16 is seen as the true definition of the love God has for the entire human race. He SO LOVED us that He gave us His Son. Now, His desire to love us is one thing, what He gave to us is another – HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, He gave Jesus Christ as a gift, not just to associate with us, but also to die for us, a slow, painful and wicked type of death. It was a gift that has remained, indeed, an unquantifiable love.

What brought about this love in the first place? It was due to the hopeless situation of mankind where everyone was heading towards ruin. There was no help in sight. Like the Bible says in Isa. 53:6 – “All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned, everyone to his own way, but the Lord has laid upon Him (Christ) the iniquities of us all.” (God would have taken someone else from the world as a sacrifice, but, He took His own Son. The Bible says He did not spare His own Son but delivered Him for us all (Rom. 8:32).

We need to acknowledge this gift – this love -which is beyond description; the love gave us back our rightful place with God through Christ Jesus! God gave us power over principalities and powers, and gave us eternal life and set us free from the hands of our enemies and made us to be partakers of the inheritance of the Lord. Today, associate with this unquantifiable love by fully giving your life and dedicating to the Lord and you shall continue to rejoice in Him for evermore.

MEMORY VERSE:
Romans 5:8–”But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

PRAYER:
Father, thank You for Your inestimable love demonstrated towards me. Let the effect of this love be fully established over me and everything I do and, in the end, grant unto me eternal life in Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Let Your Life Preach The Gospel Of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

1-Corinthians_1-18: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God

I Thessalonians. 2:5-12

The greatest stumbling block to unbelievers accepting Christ has been the lifestyles of believers themselves. Jesus was telling the disciples in Matthew 5:13-16 that we are both salt and light to the world. This is very important as these two things cannot go out of use as long as the world remains. There is the need to let the light of our lives be seen by the world so that they will appreciate how bright and loving the Father in heaven is. Everyone loves light, not darkness, and darkness itself is just the absence of light. When people see us, our lives should so preach the light of God to them that they may be comforted. Also, being a salt means that our lives must sweeten or add flavour to someone’s bitter situation.

Now, whatever we do with our lives matters so much. The world does not read the Bible; we are the Bible they read: our lifestyles. The lives of the disciples portrayed Christ and they were named Christians, the name which we bear today. We are the fifth gospel written to the world and the last living epistle to our generation. Our lives must preach the gospel to everyone around us.

Naomi had nothing to give to Ruth, but Ruth decided go with her. The light of God must have been shown through Naomi to the extent that Ruth saw something unique and she did not want to let go.

Can anyone stick to you because of your lifestyle? Has anyone told you he/she can see the goodness of the Lord through your life? If not, there is still much to be done by you. Let your life positively speak volumes to people in your compound, place of work, church and to unbelievers so that they may glorify God.

Set Yourself In The Direction Of Peace.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee

Are you frustrated or upset over something? Maybe fighting off discouragement? The first question to ask yourself is “What am I thinking about?”

Job_19-25: For I know that my Redeemer lives

2 Timothy. 3:13-17

The Word of the Lord is the mainstay of every Christian’s life. We were made and shaped by the Word and this Word is infallible and indestructible. Several attempts have been made to destroy and/or discredit it, but it has been proved right all the time.

This same Word, which is the compass light and life to every Christian is what Paul told Timothy, his son in the faith, to follow and continue in. There is the need to practise the dictates and principles of the Word, both in word and in deed, because that is what will make the difference between us and the unbelievers. The world will always have its own normal way of life, but we must also develop ours. The contents of our hearts must be the Word of God alone because that is what matters.

The first thing is that Timothy has been taught in the things of God through the Holy Scriptures from his childhood. That was why Paul had instructed him in verse 13 of our passage for today of the need to continue in them. There is a very good advantage to be taught of the Lord while young, it implants the truth into the hearts of the child and becomes the seed that will grow up with him.

The world around us is perverse. The elements and the language and practices are very much corrupt. That is why we need to demonstrate the power and presence of the Lord by living the principles of His Word. The Word of God is perfect [Psa. 19:7]. That is why it makes every man perfect by aligning our hearts with that of God who gave us the Word. There is the need to live the Word so that its light can be seen in us and that people may see the power of God through us.

2 Timothy 3:15 “But if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”

PRAYER:

There is tremendous power in love! In the same way that a tree will grow taller and stronger when its roots grow deep, you will be stronger and rise higher when you are rooted and established in love.

How do you establish yourself in love? It starts by making a choice. When you choose to say “yes” to love, you are saying “yes” to everything God is because God is love! Then, everyday choose to love through your actions by modeling your life according to 1 Corinthians 13. That means choosing to be patient and kind. It means not seeking your own way, not being jealous or boastful. When you choose love, you are showing the world that God is first place in your life. The more you choose to walk in love, the deeper and stronger your roots will grow.

Remember, love is the greatest thing. It is all that will last in eternity. Choose to establish yourself in love and let it be firm within you. Let His love build security in you and empower you to live the life of blessing He has in store for you.

God Is Not Through With You! Amen.

Philippians_1-6-1: Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. God Is Good

Philippians 1:3-7

During the construction of an edifice, the contractor working on the building stopped work and was called to explain why he did so. He told the owner of the building that he had to stop work because the materials needed for the building were being delayed on the sea. It was suggested that an alternative materials be sought, but he refused, because “They were substandard”. The client was very upset, thinking that the set time would not be achieved, but the contractor told him he preferred to wait for the real materials to come than use sub-standard ones that might not stand the test of time.

Finally, the original materials arrived and the work progressed again and the set time was achieved. Later, the client asked the contractor why he insisted on the imported materials coming in and not the alternative materials suggested. He simply replied, “I know the real source and I ordered for them myself. If I had used any other one, it would not have fitted into the design I have and the total outcome would have been compromised”.

Beloved, if you look around and you feel that you have got to a point where everything suddenly seemed to come to a halt and no movement is forth coming, it does not mean that the Lord has stopped the work He was doing on you. It only means that He has gone to procure the right materials needed to perfect the work, or that the materials were yet to be ready. Since the Lord will not do a haphazard work in your life, if the Lord will want you to reflect His true beauty, then, He cannot compromise on the contents of His work. The Lord has not brought you to the point to abandon you, He has not taken you thus far to disgrace you. God has never forsaken His own at the point of need and He will not abandon you. Wait, God is still working, and He will complete His work on you.

Matthew 5:33-37

Jesus Christ gave many important instructions in the Sermon on the Mount and these instructions are invaluable. The one we shall consider says ‘Let your yes be yes.’ Because there is so much deceit in the society, many people want their words to be accepted. First and foremost, you do not need to prove to people that you are saying the truth because the truth does not need any defense. The right things do not need to be proven, they can and will always prove themselves. It is only falsehood that needed to be covered, painted or assisted with cosmetics.

Always know that there is no need for us to swear or call God’s name to prove that we are saying the truth. Jesus Christ said we must not swear by heaven, because it is the throne of God, neither by the earth, because it is God’s footstool, nor by the City of the King, nor even by our head, because we cannot create it. Simply, our ‘Yes’ must be the true ‘Yes’ and not partial ‘Yes’. Our ‘No’ must be truly ‘No’ and not an adjusted or modified one. When people come to know that we are true to our words without having to swear, then we can be truly trusted and seen as credible people. Many of us swear deceitfully. So swearing does not really mean that we are saying the truth, it might just mean that people are trying to cover up something in our words.

Today, be truthful in all your ways. Let your moderation be known to all in sincerity and you shall obtain a good record and reputation. God bless you.

The Word Of GOD Is Sweeter Than Honey.

Hebrews_4-12: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart

Ezekiel 3: 3 – 6

Ezekiel was in exile in Babylon when he received his call to be a prophet. In a vision, he was instructed by God to eat the scrolls and he found the words of God, “as sweet as honey” (Ezek. 3: 3). In his ministry, Ezekiel was directed by God to involve himself in the Word of God and act out, painfully, in prophetic symbolism the judgment of God on the Jews. After the fall of Jerusalem, as prophesied by Ezekiel, the unfailing love of God was demonstrated in Ezekiel’s message of God’s consoling word of restoration and unceasing love for His beloved.

The writer of Hebrews described the word of God as, “living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword” (Heb. 4: 12). Paul told Timothy in 2 Timothy 3: 16 that, “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” This shows that the scripture is the infallible and authoritative Word of God. The context of God’s words could be bitter at times, particularly when it rebukes and corrects, nevertheless, the intended outcome is clear – to refine, restore and to equip God’s children for the good and fruitful life He designed for them.

Like the Psalmist, we should hide God’s Word in our heart so that we might not sin against Him (Psalm 119: 11). A daily intake of God’s Word through reading, studying, meditating, memorizing and acting it out helps us to know the mind of God concerning our lives and to accomplish His purpose for our existence.
