Psalm 25:1-22

In this lament of David over his troubles he prays to God the Father (John 16:23-26) not to allow him, among others, to be ashamed; not to allow his enemies (Saul and others) to triumph over him; for God to show him His ways, His truth and His path and to be merciful to him.

David, king of Israel, knew how to wait on God. He poured his heart to Him at all times. It is never recorded in the Bible that David went to any herbalist or soothsayer but he put his implicit trust in God and that was why he was called ” a man after God’s heart.”

God’s sovereignty and supremacy over all things and mortals are not in doubt. We should therefore fear and obey Him and His commandments. Godly fear is the foundation of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10).

Does Godly fear have any reward? Yes, it has. Here are some of them:

Wisdom and knowledge (Proverbs 9: 10)

Long life (Proverbs 9:11)

Enjoying the love of God (Genesis 20:6)

Friendship with God (Psalms 25: 14)

Stupendous blessings

One’s enemy will surrender

Beloved, these rewards are just a tip of the reward for Godly fear. Abraham became a close friend of God simply because he walked in godly fear (Genesis 18: 16-19) and spoke with God over the destruction of Sodom. Joseph was a youth who feared God. Though he was tempted by Portiphars wife, he resisted the devil, ran away from the appearance of sin and the Lord elevated him to the post of Prime Minister in Egypt when he was 30 years old (Genesis 39:11-19; 41:41-56).

When you walk in godly fear, you will reap prosperity from the LORD (Psalm 25: 12-13). Go and do likewise!!!

MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 25: 14 “The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him and He will show them His covenant.”
