Beast has finally come back after releasing their eighth mini album, “Ordinary”, last July 2015. Though Beast was previously a six-member group, they returned this July 4 as a five-member group, due to the departure of Hyunseung in April. The remaining group members are apparently not taking the loss lightly either, inasmuch the title track “Ribbon”, for their 3rd full album, Highlight, displays a sadder tone than their previous title tracks.
“Ribbon” is an R&B ballad about an unraveling ribbon, the analogy for an unraveling relationship. The first thing that catches my ear is the interesting sound effects in the intro. They are slightly jarring, yet perfectly compliment the sad tone of the song. The notes playing softly under the sound effects create a feeling of being weighed down, eliciting a more melancholic sounding intro.
