What Is Good Government?

What does good government look like? Most of us probably associate good government with virtues and a virtuous person (see the links in the caption of the picture above). Unfortunately, we often forget that good government mostly depends upon the We the People behaving virtuously, not just our leaders.

Consider the Apostle Paul’s problem when he wrote Romans 13:1-7. The Roman Empire had crucified Jesus Christ. That same government would eventually martyr millions of Christ’s followers. Yet Paul counselled obedience to that same government. Why? The Peoples of the Roman Empire were intolerant of Christ and His followers, not just their government. Paul could not change the government without changing the People. Given the nature of the People, the People of the Roman Empire had the best government they could have.

Mother’s Day was less than a fortnight ago. The outpouring of love towards Mothers – Biological, Adoptive, Angel moms, Spiritual, Stepmothers, Fur-Baby moms, Mothers to angel babies – was amazing across the globe. Social media had a variety of photographs, from baby pics to current snaps of mothers and their children, all telling different tales to the viewers. The common tale, however, was how mothers are held in high regard, in spite of their weaknesses and/or shortcomings. When all is said and done, our mothers are exemplary beings.

I am lucky to have been raised in a family where the women who directly impact my journey as a young woman are phenomenal in every definition of the word. To have gotten a front row seat to the magnificence that was both my Grandmothers, is a gift I do not take for granted because even in their absence, their legacies still…

If I was asked that question I would say Yes, but not all the time.  The thing about faith is this it’s easy to have it when everything is good in your life but when everything isn’t going so good it seem to be not so easy for faith to be alive.  Faith is not supposed to be easy in fact faith is to step out in to the unknown, faith is to whole heartedly give it to God and tell God that He is in control. The best definition of faith (I think) is found in the Bible (Hebrews 11:1) Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen, or in other words like to say to believe in the invisible hope.  The gantlet has been laid down now do you dare to live by faith?

Psa 29:3 The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters.

The go to verse in this chapter is verse two – “…worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” The true emphasis is on the voice of the Lord. We find the voice of the Lord is “upon the waters.” We find that His voice “thundereth.” We also see several other things about the voice of the Lord. It is “powerful,” it is full of “full of majesty.”

We then proceed to the results of the voice of the Lord. His voice “breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.” He makes the cedars to “skip like calves.” The voice of the Lord “divideth the flames of fire.” It “shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.”, It makes the…

I was recently pondering the state of my heart. My mom passed and my sister did not tell me. She has made it really difficult for me to see my mom. She lied on me to my mom and well my mom believed her. These things broke my heart. I longed for a good relationship with my mom. We will be closing next Monday!!! I can’t believe it! But I will breathe a sigh of relief after all the papers are signed. Here are broken down updates:

Garden
The only thing I know about the soil is that it is clay heavy. I didnt know what this meant or what to do about so I went to my friends Emily and Roberto, who suggested a mix of soil, sand and mulch thrown right on top of the existing grass. So that’s the plan. I cannot wait for the heaving breaths, the breaking back and the blisters all over my hands from working this!!! I’m so desperate for some down and dirty work!

I’m hoping I won’t need fencing right away around it and am not planning for it. Getting the bed ready and the seedlings started seems to be enough at the moment. But if the garden begins…

For the first time since the country’s founding, white Christians don’t constitute a majority of the U.S. population.

That’s the finding from the Pew Research Center, which published data this month showing whites who identify as Christian make up just 46 percent of the American population.

Pew’s “Religious Landscape” survey, published Nov. 23, finds Americans increasingly polarized along religious and political lines. While it’s an interesting finding, the narrative is predictable: As conservatives become more conservative, the study insinuates, they also cling harder to their religion. And for some reason we can’t quite pin down, being a white Christian makes the results more noteworthy.
