INTRODUCTION
Good morning dearly beloved. It is always a great pleasure to share God’s word with us and to lead us in a few prayers. I sincerely thank the Pastorate for this opportunity and thank you for being there and always ready to hear from God. May God bless you.
According to Lam. 3:22-24, it is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed by our enemies. So many people have died, not for any fault of theirs, but God has just chosen to show us mercies and keep us alive (Romans 9:15-16). Please join me to give Him all the glory for keeping us alive. God has been faithful brethren, we might not have everything that we have been asking for, but we have the most important thing: the gift of life. So there is hope for us of a more glorious future. God’s name alone be praised.
THE MESSAGE
According to one of our songs above, God has lifted us above our enemies, so we will exalt His name. And because we are lifted above our enemies, we do not have any reason to fear or be worried. This morning, by the grace of God, we will be discussing the topic: LIFTED ABOVE OUR ENEMIES, after which, we will take a few prayers. We will take our text from Psalms 107:1-9,
Psalms 107:1-9
1 O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
7 And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
8 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
THE PROBLEM AND SITUATION OF LIFE
The people of God wandered about in the wilderness, they found no city to dwell in. They were frustrated, tired, very hungry, and thirsty. They were at the verge of giving up, their strength could no longer carry them. Beloved, I don’t know what you may be going through right now that is really causing you great frustration, confusion and you have reached your limits as a human being. You don’t know what to do any more. Don’t give up! Your miracle is nearer than you think.
THE ACTION
The Bible tells us that in the midst of their trouble, they cried unto the Lord. Joseph cried to God, Hannah cried to God, Job cried to God, Daniel and the 3 Hebrew children cried to God, Jabez cried to God, the woman with the issue of blood for 12 years cried to God, etc. It is often said that a closed mouth is a closed destiny. Beloved, never be overwhelmed by problems or challenges that you find it difficult to cry to God in prayers.
YOU NEED TO REFRAME OR REDEFINE THE PROBLEM
To reframe or redefine a problem is to see it differently in ways that makes solution possible. If you can not reframe the problem, you may find it difficult to even pray because you can not see any solution in sight. Most times, our real problem is not the problem confronting us but the mental picture we form in our minds of a problem that can not be solved. When they told Jesus that His friend, Lazarus was dead, He knew that Lazarus was physically dead. But Jesus’ first reaction was to immediately reframe the problem and He told His Disciples that Lazarus was asleep: John 11:11. Jesus knew that there is a big difference between death and sleep, but saying Lazarus was asleep made solution more possible because someone who is asleep will wake up. Reframing the problem gives us room to thank God for the miracle that is possible and about to happen. To reframe a problem is not the same thing as denying that the problem exists, not at all. It is simply redefining the problem in ways that make solution possible. Someone can wake up from sleep, but someone can not wake up from death!
Another vivid example of the power of reframing is the 12 spies that were sent to the land of Canan: Numbers 13 & 14. They all saw the same situation: a land flowing with milk and honey but full of deadly giants, a group of people known for their wickedness. While 10 of the 12 spies framed the situation as a land full of milk and honey that had giants that are able to “kill us”; Joshua and Caleb framed the same situation differently as a land flowing with milk and honey, that had giants that we can kill. The Bible called the first report an evil report that greatly depressed the people of God, so much so that they gave up any hope of getting into the Promised land. While the second report from Joshua and Caleb was a very good report that encouraged and gave hope to the people of God.
I sincerely believe that there are many Christians making mistakes by denying that their problems even exist. In so doing, they refuse to take required actions. That is not what I am talking about brethren. We must acknowledge our problems and challenges but reframe and redefine them in ways that make solution possible.
The truth is that we can not really pray with power if we can not reframe/redefine the problem or challenge. Whenever we think that a problem does not have any solution, it weakens our ability to pray effectively for that particular problem.
GOD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS
Brethren, we may not know how God will solve our problems, but we must always put ourselves in positions to pray and see the solution. To do otherwise is counterproductive and hinders our ability to pray and get results.
Don’t always think in terms of the worst and never expect the worst to happen to you. We are called to live a life of prayer and faith, not a life of doubts and constant fear and expectation of the worst.
Beloved, I am not denying the fact that some situations and problems really look so bad but this is not an excuse for not reframing or redefining the problem in ways that allows us to pray and believe God for a miracle. I pray for you and for myself, that any hopeless situation in our lives will become a testimony in Jesus name, amen.
ALTAR CALL
These things are not possible if we don’t have a more personal relationship with God because the Bible says that the things of God are spiritually discerned. Second, the prayers of the sinner is an abomination to God. So we must first deal with our personal relationship with God and put ourselves in right-standing with God. That is when we have the assurance that He hears and will answer us when we pray. Please let’s examine ourselves whether we are in right-standing with God and make amends where necessary. You may also want to rededicate your life to Jesus if you have become lukewarm or backslided. God bless you as you do so in Jesus name, amen.
Now let us take a few prayers:
