The book of Ruth 1:1-7 tells us that Elimelech took his sons and wife and left Bethlehem-Judah because there was a famine. This was just a season, an event in their lives. “Bethlehem” means “the land of bread”and “Judah”means “praise”. Bethlehem-Judah was originally called Ephrata, which means fruitful. So you see it’s a triple combination: a land of bread where praises are lifted up to God that brings about fruitfulness. However, Elimelech and his family left this place.
