Friendly Alliance Between The Church And The World

Prayer's avatarPrayer Haven

Isaiah_60-1: Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee Isaiah_60-1: Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee

Christians should stand out like sparkling diamonds against a rough and dark background. We should be poised, cultured, courteous, gracious—but firm in the things that we do and don’t do. We should laugh and be radiant, but we should refuse sinful pleasure.

Matthew_5-14: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid, I Am The Light Of The World Matthew_5-14: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid, I Am The Light Of The World

A distinctive mark of our times is that the line between the church and the world is often difficult to discern. In many religious circles there is a friendly alliance between the church and the world. The Scripture teaches that certainly the church is to go to the world and live in the world, but without partaking of its evil deeds.

Psalms_119-90: Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth Psalms_119-90: Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth

Psalm 119:57

Thou art my portion, O Lord.

Look at thy possessions, O believer, and compare thy portion with the lot of thy fellowmen. Some of them have their portion in the field; they are rich, and their harvests yield them a golden increase; but what are harvests compared with thy God, who is the God of harvests? What are bursting granaries compared with Him, who is the Husbandman, and feeds thee with the bread of heaven? Some have their portion in the city; their wealth is abundant, and flows to them in constant streams, until they become a very reservoir of gold; but what is gold compared with thy God? Thou couldst not live on it; thy spiritual life could not be sustained by it. Put it on a troubled conscience, and could…

As with gladness men of old

Did the guiding star behold,

As with joy they hailed its light,

Leading onward, beaming

So, most gracious Lord, may we

Evermore be led to Thee.

As with joyful steps they sped,

Saviour, to Thy lowly bed,

There to bend the knee before

Thee, whom heav’n and earth

adore;

So may we with willing feet

Ever seek the mercy-seat.

As they offered gifts most rare

At thy cradle rude and bare;

So may we with holy joy,

Pure, and free from sin’s alloy,

No sweeter sound than this is

Low at the cradle throne we bend,

No joy was sweet before.

For us the world must lose its charms

Before the manger shrine,

When, folded in Thy mother’s arms

We see Thee Babe divine.

Brightest and best of the sons of the morning

Job_19-25: For I know that my Redeemer lives Job_19-25: For I know that my Redeemer lives

Brightest and best of the sons of the morning

Dawn on our darkness, and lend us thine aid,

Star of the East, the horizon adorning

Guide where our infant Redeemer is laid.

Cold on His cradle the dew drops are shining;

Low lies His head with the beasts of the stall;

Angels adore Him in slumber reclining

Maker, and Monarch, and Saviour of all,

Say, shall we yield Him, in costly devotion,

Odours of Edom, an offerings divine,

Gems of the mountain and pearls of the ocean,

Myrrh from the forest of gold from the mine?

Vainly we offer each ample oblation

Vainly with gifts would His favour secure;

Richer by far is the heart’s adoration;

Songs of praise the angels sang

Psalms_9-1: I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. Psalms_9-1: I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

Songs of praise the angels sang,

Heaven with alleluias rang,

When creation was begun,

When God spake, and it was

done.

Songs of praise awoke the morn

When the Prince of Peace was born;

Songs of praise arose when he

Captive led captivity.

Heaven and earth must pass away;

Songs of praise shall crown that day;

God will make new heavens, new earth

Songs of praise shall hail their birth.

And can man alone be dumb

Till that glorious Kingdom come?

No! the Church delights to raise

Psalms, and hymns, and songs of praise.

Bible in a Year: 2 Kings 19-21; John 4:1-30

Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.Luke 18:14

One August evening in Vermont, a young missionary spoke at our small church. The country where he and his wife served was in religious turmoil, and it was considered too dangerous for children. In one of his stories, he told us about a heart-wrenching episode when his daughter pleaded with him not to leave her behind at a boarding school.

I was a new dad at that time, having recently been blessed with a daughter, and the story upset me. How could loving parents leave their daughter alone like that? I muttered to myself. By the time the talk was finished, I was so…

Gwen stopped by the dress shop every few days to look at the gown she had picked out. Though it was a couple of sizes smaller than she wore, she dreamed of the time she could fit into it. It was a perfect gown. She could visualize in her mind’s eye how stunning she would look in it. For the next month, Gwen stuck to a strict diet and made her dream a reality. She lost the two sizes and bought the dress she wanted so badly. We need our dreams, hopes, and plans to make it through our diets. Hope helps us strengthen our faith…

God still calls … has He called you?

Prayer's avatarPrayer Haven

Pastor E A Adeboye. Daddy G O Pastor E A Adeboye. Daddy G O

Has God called you to ministry? Though all Christians are called to serve the cause of Christ, God calls certain persons to serve the church as pastors and other ministers. Writing to young Timothy, the Apostle Paul confirmed that if a man aspires to be a pastor, “it is a fine work he aspires to do” (1 Timothy 1:1, NASB).

Likewise, it is a high honor to be called of God into the ministry of the church. How do you know if God is calling you?

First, there is an inward call. Through His Spirit, God speaks to those persons He has called to serve as pastors and ministers of His church. The great Reformer Martin Luther described this inward call as “God’s voice heard by faith.” Those whom God has called know this call by a sense of leading, purpose…

Dear Lord God, I Pray That I Grow In My Trust In You

Psalms_34-8: O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. Psalms_34-8: O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

“O taste and see that the Lord [Our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him.”Psalm 34:8 (AMP)

When David wrote this psalm, he had experienced a lot in his life. He not only successfully battled the lion and the bear as a young shepherd, he single-handedly defeated Goliath, and survived King Saul’s many attempts to take his life. All of this couldn’t have been done without him first developing a strong trust and reliance on God. These experiences were the basis for his belief that the person who trusts in and takes refuge in God will not only be blessed and their success will be desired by others as they receive God’s goodness.

In life you find yourself trusting…

Love Of Christ

Psalms_25-2: O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me Psalms_25-2: O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me

Psalms 25:15-22

I know the pain of loneliness. My childhood was spent in hospital wards. My adult life has been marked by periods of emotional isolation as well. However, the Lord has never abandoned me to these feelings.

God desires that all people feel connected to Him and to each other. And in fact, we can be quickly comforted when we respond wisely to loneliness.

The first step is to enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. But simply believing He exists isn’t enough. The Lord created mankind for fellowship, which is why a relationship with Him gives people a sense of oneness. The love of Christ forces loneliness out of the lives of God’s children.

Second, we must admit that we’re lonely. Some Christians incorrectly think…
