 Text: Romans 8:1-2

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

 INTRODUCTION:

Law is defines as the principles or regulations established in a community by some authority that governs the community.  In the old testament, man was subject to the law of sin and death.  He was compelled to either keep the many written or verbalized laws or face the consequence of death.  We however know that man was unable to keep to the requirements of these laws.  Therefore these numerous laws were synonymous with death either of animals as temporary atonement for the sins of man or of man himself whose sins could not be permanently remitted via slaying of animals.  Thanks be to God, whose Right Arm brought us Salvation.  When Christ paid the price for us and gave us the Holy Spirit, a new law became operational – the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus.

 WHAT IS THE NEW LAW?

The new law is LOVE.  John 13:34 (A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another).  Matthew 22:37-40  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.  

 CONSEQUENCES OF THE NEW LAW

 1. No more condemnation – the law of sin and death was built around condemnation unto death.   Hebrews 9:22 says that “without shedding of blood is no remission”.  Meaning every soul that sinneth was sure to die (Exodus 18:4).  According to John 8:36, if the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.  The new law of the Spirit of life in Christ has put us in a position of freedom from ALL forms of condemnation.  Condemnation from sin, man, Satan, past failures and mistakes, etc.  Romans 8:35-39 clearly scopes the magnitude of this freedom.  The love of Christ that regulates this new law is so powerful that NOTHING is able to separate you and I (those that are in Christ Jesus) from His love.  In the mighty name of Jesus, I declare that there is no more condemnation over your life and your family, Amen.

 2. A mandate to love – Remember that Jesus Christ said he did not come to cancel the laws but to fulfill them.  Through the love that he shed upon man, Jesus fulfilled the law.  Many scriptures support this truth.  When we love as Christ did, we would have fulfilled all the requirements of the law. 

Romans 8:4 (That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit)

Romans 13:8 (Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law)

Romans 13:10 (Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law)

Gal 5:14 (For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself)

Brethren, we are called upon today, to love indeed.  Let’s emulate our Lord and Saviour jesus Christ and walk in the spirit of Jesus Christ, LOVE.

May God grant us the grace to embrace and work in the new law – Love, in Jesus Name, Amen.
