Oftentimes when people hear the message about God’s grace to His children, it is so good and radical that they ask the questions in our text for today. As a matter of fact, if this line of thought has not crossed your mind, you have never heard the message of grace. Every time the message of grace is preached, people see it as a licence for sin. As long as you are struggling to earn, deserve, or merit the blessing of God, you will wait for the blessing for a very long time. God’s blessing is never earned, deserved, or merited. Blessings are received by grace. This is a fact I have been hammering home and I will not stop until every single believer gets it. You cannot earn God’s blessing; you simply receive it.

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

The foundation is the structure that holds the rest of a building. Without the foundation, the walls, the doors, the windows, and the roof could never be put in place. The foundation is important even though it is often never seen; its strength influences a building’s ability to withstand the test of time.

You will be surprised by the number of believers who are trying to get things done without a foundation or without the right kind of foundation. Notice that in our text the Psalmist is saying that the righteous (the born again child of…

Beloved, righteousness is not earned, deserved, or merited. It is a gift that God gave to you the day you gave your heart to Jesus Christ. With the heart man believeth unto righteousness. It is a gift from God (Romans 5:17). We were made righteous when we were born again (2 Corinthians 5:21).

What is righteousness? It is God’s DNA. It is right standing with God. It is standing before God as if sin does not exist. It is standing before God without any sense of inferiority condemnation, guilt, or accusation.
