INTRODUCTION: The Second coming of Christ is an event that will surely take place after the following:
Rapture
The Great Tribulation
The war of Armageddon and
The Millennial Reign.
After the Rapture of the Church, the scriptures predict that there is going to be a seven years worldwide troubles called the Tribulation, Dan 9:26-27. It is going to be the most awful time in the entire world’s history. Matt 24:21 These are going to be the days in which all calamities, oppression, distress, hopelessness etc. predicted by Moses, Joel, Daniel and other prophets as well as those predicted by our Saviour, will meet in one common centre, and are going to be fulfilled in most terrible manner on this generation Luke 21:22. The question arises: Why is God going to allow such a severely perilous time to come upon the World? We shall be discussing these as we progress in this teaching. Zeph 1:14-17. The Great Tribulation is also called the time of Jacob’s trouble: Jer 30: 7, Deut 31:16-18, Dan 9:26, Joel 2:2 Sin is the cause of Jacob’s trouble
OUTLINE 1.
1. What is the Tribulation? Tribulation means a time of trouble. There are different kinds of tribulations mentioned in the Bible which refer to hardships, trials and all sorts of sufferings that Believers of Christ may encounter in their lives. Deut 4:30-31, Matt 13:21. The Bible teaches us that those who follow Christ and God’s words and His commandments may face tribulations. He promises that He will not forsake nor destroy them in times of trials and tribulations. Examples of some who suffered trials and tribulations in the Bible are Joseph, Ruth, Daniel, Jeremiah, Job, Peter and even our Lord Jesus Christ. Each of them experienced forms of suffering, testing their faith and resilience. John 16:33
2. The Tribulation: Is a relatively short period of seven years where everyone left behind after the Rapture will face worldwide hardship, persecution, disaster, famine, wars, pains and suffering.
3. When will it happen? The tribulation will begin after the rapture of the church (saints) and the revelation of the Antichrist: 2Thess 2:3-7, Dan 9:20-27. The first three and half years will be the full manifestation of the Antichrist, during which he shall make covenant with Israel. Dan 9:27. The second three and half years will be time of unprecedented trouble. The Antichrist will break the covenant with Israel and practice abominable desolution of the temple. Dan 11:35, Matt 24:15,16.
OUTLINE 2
What are the effects of Tribulation? Listed below are some of the events that the world will experience during tribulation of the Antichrist.
1. A period of darkness and gloominess, a day of cloud and darkness. Zeph 1:15 (men will literally work like blind men).
2. The mountains and Island will move. Rev 6:14
3. The Oceans will become blood Rev 8:8-9; one third of all the sea life will die. In addition, one third of all the ships will be destroyed.
4. Freshwater supplies will be affected. They will become bitter and cause many people to die Rev 8:10-11.
5. Stars of heaven will fall out of the sky to the earth. Rev 6:13
CONCLUSION: The Tribulation is a time of deception by false teachers, and the Antichrist claiming “I am the Christ”. Nations will rise against nations, wars and rumours of war. A time of global economic devastation, disorder, disease etc. but those who have received Christ as their Lord, and personal Saviour, keeping themselves Holy until He comes, shall be delivered through rapture from the days of Tribulation, until His second coming.
Praise the Lord!
Thank You Jesus,

4. When you tell GOD you’ll do something, do it–now. GOD takes no pleasure in foolish gabble. Vow it, then do it.
5. Far better not to vow in the first place than to vow and not pay up.
6. Don’t let your mouth make a total of you. When called to account, you won’t get by with “Sorry, I didn’t mean it.” Why risk provoking GOD to angry retaliation?
7. But against all illusion and fantasy and empty talk There’s always this rock foundation: Fear GOD. [MSB]
INSPIRATION.
(Guide your mouth, avoid empty vows/promises).
It’s a known fact that people make promises in public functions or gatherings, either out of zeal, fantasy, or by human/spirit (wine) induced influence.
Most often, it happens in religious gather during fund raising events and ceremonies, making pledges and empty promises. But when confronted, their response will always be “I did that to promote the event/show, or I owe nobody but GOD, since it’s the house of GOD, let me settle it with HIM.”
When you make a vow or promises, pay up, be it in your family meeting, Church, or community gathering, it’s better that you should not promise, than not redeeming your promises.
In Judges Chapter 11:1-12:7. There was a man named Jephthah. This man served as a judge over Israel for years, according to biblical account, this man was a Gileadite born of a prostitute. Though a great warrior, he was rejected by his people and casted out, being considered an illegitimate son of the family. Jephthah left the family and found himself among gangsters. Later on, when the Ammonites came up against the Israelites in war, and there was nobody to lead the battle, then the people remembered Jephthah and sent for him asking for help. The elders of Gilead voluntarily offered to serve Jephthah should he help them defeat their enemy. Jephthah accepted the offer to go to war. Jephthah then made a vow to GOD saying, “If you give the Ammonites into my hands, whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites will be the Lord’s, I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering (Judges 11:30-31).
GOD then answered his prayer, he defeated the Ammonites and returned home to Mizpah. When he arrived home, the first person to come out to welcome him was his daughter (the only child).
This unexpected event caused Jephthah to tear his clothes in mourning, though the daughter accepted the consequences of her father’s vow, but Jephthah was bittered and sorrowful due to his rash vow.
What a lesson to learn from Jephthah.
Firstly, GOD can use us regardless of our background and we cannot change where we came from, yet HE can use us in great ways despite our past.
Secondly, we are not to make rash commitments or promises to GOD no matter where or what situation we find ourselves. As we can see, Jephthah lost his only child over such rash and unguided verbal commitment.
Thirdly, discrimination against our fellow human being and stigmatizing them due to their background is a sin and evil, because we don’t know GOD’S plan for us through them.
Lastly, even when we do the right thing, we may have to endure hardship from others whosoever he/she may be. Jephthah had to endure the trouble of rejection and humiliation from the people of Ephraim, despite being empowered by GOD’S Spirit to free them from the Ammonites.
Prayer for the day.
Thank You FATHER for another day, thank You for the blessings and gift of life showered upon us at Your presence, be exalted. Merciful FATHER, help us to tame our tongue and guide our speech -that we may not sin against You by making empty vows and promises, but let our “yes be yes, and our no be no”
Help us not to fear the future but boldly trust that You are in control when our emotions plunge us down, and when we are in despair.
And times when we can’t talk and don’t know what to say. Help us to “Be still and know that You are GOD.” Be our comforter, our healer, our protector, and our provider and bring peace to our hearts.
Bless our bread and water as we launch into the world today, thank You Ancient of days for another prayer answered, in Jesus Mighty name, Amen.
Thank You Jesus,

Urgent prayer request from one of our pastors in Kandhamal district in India.
Praise the Lord Pastor.
We are in danger. Some people are planning to do religious violence in kandhamal district. It will be a great persecution for Christians. Some of pastors, evangelists, Leaders are targets for Martyr. Already some pastors’ names are published to be killed.
Among them my name also there. I am very happy to receive the persecution but I am worry about my Family and Church and believers. So please pray. What will you pray?
Let somebody shout hallelujah! I think we owe it a duty to God to appreciate Him for the benefit of life; if you don’t believe me, all you need to do is just to take a brief walk on what has transpired between 1st and 31st of last month, the number of casualties, people who never in their wildest imaginations believed that they would not see the month of August. A songwriter says ‘count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done’.
So if you are in the house this morning and indeed God has done something for you, I want you to put your hands together for Jesus. Praise the Lord!
There’s a saying in the part of the country where I come from that says “if you don’t know how to think, you will not be able to know how to give thanks”, in other words, it takes thinkers to give praise to God because thinkers always think about the things that has happened, the things that God has done, the things that they longed for, the things that they prayed for and how God has resolved the matter. So today, we are come again to exercise our power of thinking particularly with respect to the grace to be alive, and I pray that today, God Almighty will give us that act of gratitude to Him in the name of Jesus.
Father in heaven, we just want to say thank You this morning for giving us life, for giving us hope because the Bible says to him that is joined to the living, there is hope; thank You for the gifts of hope, it doesn’t matter the situation, we still have this assurance that tomorrow will be alright, accept our thanks in Jesus name.
Thank You for giving us this day, thank You for giving us this beautiful opportunity, thank You because we are here Lord Almighty God to count our blessings and of course to give You corresponding praise, and we know what lies in our praise is that opportunity to receive more and more from You, therefore Lord, as we praise You today Father Almighty, we ask Lord that You will do more for us in Jesus name.
Lord Almighty God, in the hymnal we have just sang about so many prophecies, You said the weary (for Instance) will find eternal rest; in another line, You said dead and curse will be no more, and on and on like that, I pray in the name of Jesus that as we open our mouth Lord Almighty God, in praise of Your name this morning, let all Your promises find fulfillment in our lives in Jesus name.
We pray God of heaven that our first will not be the last in the mighty name of Jesus. And we pray Lord that as we offer You praise today, that our praise, Lord Almighty God will by speed enter into the holies of the holiest in the name of Jesus. And Lord Almighty we pray that by same, we will receive positive report today.
Thank You for everything that You have done, thank You for the past seven months, thank You because You never allowed them to swallow us, it is by Your grace that we are standing and we have come to count our blessings, Father take all the glory, take all the honor, and take all the adoration.
Father, it’s our month of a new beginning, we pray that new beginning of joy, new beginning of peace, new beginning of health, new beginning of breakthrough, new beginning of accomplishment, new beginning of promotion, new beginning of favor, new beginning of success, new beginning of growth – personal growth, cooperate growth, spiritual growth and opportunities shall be our portion in Jesus name.
Please visit us in this service and take all the glory. I pray for all Your children who have been faithful in the payments of their tithes and in the giving of their offerings, Lord, that in blessing You will bless them in Jesus name, and unto them all You will give a delightsome land, blessed be Your name forever, in Jesus wonderful name we have prayed.
Good morning daddies, mommies, brothers and sisters, good to have you in the house this morning, I thank God for your beautiful faces, I pray that this month will bring you great and lots of testimonies in the name of Jesus Christ. Happy new month of August!
Once again we welcome every one of you, it’s a good thing for us to be alive and of course it’s a great thing for us to be here and I want to congratulate every one of us of the momentous occasion of the 72nd annual convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God titled ‘Heaven’. The whole essence of our salvation is all about heaven, that is the ultimate goal of every believer and I pray this morning for you and for myself that we will not miss our target in Jesus name.
So it has started with the Ministers’ conference, you’ll see quite a number of our ministers are not even here, and some of us have been driving in the middle of the night but thank God for His grace and strength for us.
Psalm 100:1 – 5 “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. 2 Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.5 For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations”. Let the generation of the people in the house shout hallelujah!
Today, I will be talking to us very quickly on the theme, ‘Enter His Gates With Thanksgiving’. Once again, much as I would have loved to take one or two choruses just to serve as an appetizer for the exhortation, but time is not my friend and is not our friend altogether; and before I proceed, let me also say this, I know the announcement will re-echo it; there will be no weekly services here this week; no Prayer Chain tomorrow, no Bible study on Tuesday, no Faith Clinic on Thursday, before we congregate again here will be next week Sunday, so come next week Sunday, we’ll run the full complement of our services, so make sure you come. But Monday till Friday, there will be no service here, we expect that by then, many of us will be at the campground or at least you’ll hook up by whatever means to be part of it and the Lord will bless you as you do so in Jesus name.
So brethren, thanksgiving is a necessity and it’s a necessity because when you look at the scriptures, it says enter into His gate with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him and bless His holy name. So thanksgiving is a necessity and every necessity (you can say) is a command; it is an act of being grateful for what that God has done, and thanksgiving at its core is actually an expression of gratitude or appreciation.
Thanksgiving is a virtue that resonates deeply across cultures, tribes and faith, and I want to say this morning that gratitude is not merely a courteous acknowledgement of blessings, but rather, it’s a profound recognition of the divine benevolence that permeates every aspect of our lives.
In Lamentation 3: 22, the Bible says it is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because of His compassion that faileth not; and verse 23 says they are new every morning. So the mercy of God and the compassion of God are daily renewed; we all have our motor vehicle licenses, insurance premium that are renewable on yearly basis as the case may be, but as far as God’s mercy and compassion are concerned, they are renewable on daily basis.
So you are here today because God in His benevolence has decided to renew your own, and you’ll find out that it was not everybody as at today that had his/her own renewed. It says it is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed because of His compassion that faileth not, they are new every morning, (it says) great is Your faithfulness.
So the question today is why must we give thanks to God?
It is giving credit to God. I learnt some things some years ago, a man said
bright ideas is where no one struggles for credit; in organizations, in institutions, when people do things and get good results, when you see bright ideas, they don’t bother, they are not like many of us who want to let people know ‘I did it, I am responsible, if I had not brought that idea, we would probably not have achieved the result’.
No, bright ideas will not bother, they are only concerned about outcome, good result; but when you deliberately give credit to God by thanking Him, God takes special note of it.
A man of God said your tank will not be full until you learn to be thankful; what makes your tank to be full, what makes you to have more than enough is your ability and decision to give thanks to God, because when you give thanks, invariably you are giving credit back to Him. In Psalm 69, we are told that thanksgiving honors and magnifies God; I pray today that in the life of every one of us, the Lord will be honored and magnified in Jesus name. It’s simply celebrating all that He is and of course, the wonderful things that He does.
Thanksgiving is the reason why we are alive, Psalm 50:23, “Whoso offereth
praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God”; my prayer today is that God will show you the way of salvation in the name of Jesus Christ, but you must offer Him praise because praise glorifies Him, and to him that order his conversation, (when you talk about conversation, you talk about your speeches, what you say, and thanksgiving, praise, worship, come from the mouth). If you order your conversation aright, then He said I will show you the salvation of God.
Thanksgiving produces multiplication, John 6:7 & 11-13, “7 Philip
answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. 11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.
12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten”.
You know this story, the people came to Jesus, after sharing the word and Jesus being the compassionate Person the He was and He is, He said look, we cannot ask these people to go, go and get them food and the people said haha, even if we have the whole of this – it cannot take care of these people, but again somebody said there’s someone with five loaves and maybe two fishes here
They commanded it to be brought, the Bible says He gave thanks, and that singular act led to unimaginable multiplication; He fed the crowd and they were left with 12 basket loads of fragments. What we are just trying to say is that thanksgiving has the effect, the glorious effect of multiplying your blessings. I pray that as we thank God today, whatever little resource that you have in your hand, the Lord will multiply it for you in Jesus name.
Thanksgiving is an attitude of honor, Proverbs 3:9, “Honour the Lord with
thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase”: brethren, everything is from God; and Psalm 4 says the earth is of the Lord and the fullness thereof.
According to Apostle Paul, (he said), for Him you have been enriched in every way. Tell me what you have that was not given to you…
Very shortly before I go, in 1st Corinthians 1:4 & 5, Apostle said “I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given to you by Jesus Christ; that in everything you are enriched by Him, in all utterance, and knowledge”. My prayer for every one of us this morning is that God will enrich you in every area and in knowledge in the mighty name of Jesus.
So you must brace up for thanksgiving this morning, give glory to God, give honor to God, give credit to God; we are alive today all by His grace and mercy, none of us has control over his/her life. You can be in Aso Rock and yet, death can enter, it has happened in the past; you can be in a bunker, yet death can just come unannounced, so we are all we are, all by the grace of God and I pray that as we take time to praise God, to celebrate His goodness today, God Almighty will do more and more for us all in Jesus name.
Thank You Jesus,

God orders the footsteps of the righteous and prevents him from falling. Even if he or she falls, there shall not be a casting away. Are you a righteous man or woman? Are you qualified to enjoy this divine privilege, as stated in the memory verse of today?
According to the Fire Scripture of today, do you want to be a blessed man or woman? Then, you must do everything to avoid the company of three groups of people, namely:
The ungodly,
The sinners,
And the scornful.
In 2 Corinthians 6:14-18, the Bible says, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore Come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, And touch not the unclean thing; And I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, And ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” It counsels us to come out of the gathering of ungodly people and be separated unto Him.
Do you want to be blessed? Stay clear of the gathering of the ungodly. God’s eyes cannot behold sin; hence, the righteous should not indulge in sinful activities. The Bible says, “If I regard iniquity in my heart, God will not hear me, do you want answers to your prayers? Then, flee every appearance of sin and the company of sinners. Solomon counselled his son in the book of Proverbs, “My son, if sinners entice thee, Consent thou not……. My son, walk not thou in the way with them; Refrain thy foot from their path: For their feet run to evil, And make haste to shed blood” (Proverbs 1:10, 15-16).

The Mind of Christ.Characteristics of Christ’s Mind. Christ’s Forgiving Mind and life.
Text: Luke 23:34
‘Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”’
Introduction: Several years ago, I watched a near-death experience of a young Hispanic lady. She took ill and eventually was pronounced dead. But, the Lord revived her. When she came back, she told her experience of how Jesus took her to heaven and she saw its glories and wonders. Then, He took her to hell where she saw several people that she recognized including some highly placed celebrities and individuals while on earth, and her “very prayerful grandmother!” She was shocked and asked the Lord why her grandma ended up in hell fire! The Lord answered, “Yes, she was very prayerful but she had an unforgiving mind.” Unforgiveness can land someone in hell fire! For Jesus, forgiveness is of paramount importance. He has a forgiving mind.
What is forgiveness? According to the Oxford Dictionary, it is a deliberate effort to stop feeling angry, bitter or resentful toward someone for an offense, flaw, mistake, or hurt. We should pay attention to the word: deliberate—it is an intentional effort on the part of the offended to pardon, cease feeling angry and resentful towards the offender. Forgiveness impacts our minds, emotions, health and relationship with God and others. Forgiveness may involve you forgiving someone else: a family member, friend, colleague or even a stranger; it may be God forgiving you; or even you, forgiving yourself.
So, let’s examine what we can learn about Christ’s forgiving life and mind:
1. Jesus came and died to forgive our sins (Matt. 1:21):“And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” Since the fall in Eden, all of mankind had sinned and come short of God’s glory (Rom. 3:23). The Holy God’s eyes are too pure to behold sin, and so He requires an atonement (At-One-Ment) with Himself. In the Old Testament, animal sacrifice was made so that the blood shed could cover sins and make the people acceptable before God. This was a foreshadow of the once-for-all-perfect sacrifice of Jesus to forgive, cleanse and save us from our sins (1 John 1:7).
In Christ’s death on the cross, “…..we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace” (Eph. 1:17). His death brought you and me the forgiveness that we require to restore us to God and keep us out of hell fire. Forgiveness of our sins underpins the coming, death, and resurrection of our Savior. Have you received the forgiveness that Jesus brought through the cross?
2. Jesus taught His followers to forgive: In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught the beautiful attitudes expected of His followers, including how to pray, and with a major emphasis on forgiveness. He taught us that:
(i) Forgiving others paves the way for God to forgive us: He taught us to pray, “12 and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us……” He further stated, 14 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins” ((Matt. 6:12, 14-15—NLT). Forgiving others paves the way for God to forgive us. How is your forgiveness quotient?
(ii) Forgiving others is critical to acceptance and answered prayers: Jesus said, ‘“And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses” (Mark 11:25). Our gifts and offerings are only acceptable to God when we forgive others (Matt. 5:23-24).
(iii) Forgiving others is a never-ending practice: Peter asked Jesus how often he should forgive: “Up to seven times?” Jesus replied him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven” (Matt. 18:21-22); a number to indicate that we ought always to forgive and not keep a record of wrongs.
(iv) Forgiving others is reminiscent of God’s forgiveness to us: Jesus also used parables to illustrate various aspects of forgiveness. During His conversation with Peter, Jesus told the parable of the unforgiving servant (Matt. 18:23-35); whose master forgave him much but he failed to forgive little, and ended up in jail. Luke’s gospel records some forgiveness parables namely: The barren fig tree (Luke 13:6-9; The lost sheep (Luke 15:4-7); The lost coin (Luke 15:8-10); The prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32); all reminiscent of God’s forgiveness with love, joy and rejoicing and without blame or condemnation. We should go and do likewise.
3. Jesus mercifully forgave those who sinned: When four men brought the paralytic to Jesus, He said to the sick man, “Son, your sins are forgiven you” (Mark 2:1-5). To the sinful woman who bathed His feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair, Jesus said, “Your sins are forgiven” (Luke 7:48); to a woman caught in the very act of adultery, He said, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more” (John 8:11). As Jesus hung on the cross, He said to the thief at His right, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43). It was Jesus’ way and practice to forgive whether for salvation, healing or deliverance. True followers of Jesus must forgive so we also can be saved, healed and delivered.
4. Jesus forgave those who sinned against Him: Jesus forgave those who sinned against Him directly. After the Roman soldiers had scourged, spat on, mocked and nailed Him, Jesus prayed on the cross, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” (Luke 23:34). At the season of His suffering and agony, Jesus’ disciple, Judas, betrayed Him; Peter, one of the closest three denied Him; all the disciples deserted Him. After His resurrection, when Jesus entered the Upper Room, He neither reprimanded nor condemned the disciples, instead, with forgiving love, kindness, and compassion Jesus said thrice, “Peace be with you” (John 20:19,21,26). Can you sincerely pray for the person who has sinned against you?
5. Jesus instructed His followers to continue His forgiveness ministry: Jesus asked His disciples and us to continue to forgive. He told Peter, “And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Matt. 16:19). After His resurrection, “…… He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained” (John 20:22-23).
In continuation of Jesus’ ministry of forgiveness, we see Stephen, the first Martyr, who when he was being stoned to death by the Sanhedrin, “was calling on God and….. 60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin” (Acts 7:49-50). He forgave his murderers. Can you do that?
Paul enjoined us, “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you” (Eph. 4:32). How did Christ forgive us? Lovingly, kindly and completely. He further admonished us, “Forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another” (Col. 3:13), with an emphasis on whatever.
Conclusion: It is by grace we are forgiven by God. In return, He expects us to keep our minds and hearts pure toward Him and others. He doesn’t want us to hold grudges or harbor a spirit of unforgiveness. Marianne Williamson said, “Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.”
If you and I realize that God gave us such undeserved love and forgiveness at an enormously high personal cost to Himself, we should be “very, very grateful” and forgive others. But, “If the forgiveness is minimal, the gratitude is minimal” (Luke 7:47 MSG). To be truly Christlike, we need the grace to forgive promptly, lovingly and completely.
Check Your Life: What sin are you struggling with for which you desperately need God’s forgiveness? Who in your family, workplace, neighborhood or church has hurt you and you need to forgive? What in your past has been hunting you for which you require grace to forgive yourself? Today is the day to ask the Holy Spirit to shine His searchlight on your life, mind and heart; and to pray that the poison of unforgiveness be washed away by the blood of Jesus.
Prayer: My Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your name. Forgive my sins as I forgive (Name the persons including yourself) who have hurt me so deeply. Jesus, let Your blood purge my mind of every trace of the unforgiveness-poison, and make it like Yours. Holy Spirit, make me sensitive henceforth to Your promptings to forgive instantly, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for loving me and sending Your only begotten Son to make the sacrifice that paid the penalty for my sins.
Thank You Jesus for leaving the glories of heaven and coming to this earth to live a perfectly obedient and humble life that satisfied the Father’s demand.
Thank You Lord for showing me the virtues of Your mind
Help me to imitate You by loving God and others; living a life of humility, obedience and self-sacrifice reliant on the Holy Spirit.
Search me O Lord, and reveal the attitude of my mind to me.
Holy Spirit, let self and flesh die, and let Christ be made alive in me in my calling as a prayer warrior in Jesus’ name.
Forgive my selfishness, unforgiveness, conceit and indifference to others. I want to be like Jesus!
Holy Spirit, give me the grace to forsake the ways of the flesh, the world and Satan, and imitate Jesus Christ, my Savior and Lord; in Whose name I pray. Amen.
Thank You Jesus,

Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. John 20:21
READ: JOHN 14:10-12 (KJV)
10. Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
11. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
12. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
MESSAGE:
Looking at today’s topic, I’m sure you’re asking yourself, ‘How did the Father send me?’ Acts 10:38 says that Jesus was sent to do good and to heal all that were oppressed of the devil, but then, He was anointed with the Holy Ghost and power for that assignment. That’s why, concerning His ministers, Jesus said in Luke 24:49, “Tarry ye in Jerusalem until thou be endued with power from on high.”
The condition for being a minister of God, according to Acts 6:1-3, is that you must be full of the Holy Spirit. Being baptised in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues is good. However, other kinds of evidence must also be there. Acts 6:8 says that Stephen, a man full of the Holy Spirit, performed miracles. Where are the miracles that God has performed through you since your baptism in the Holy Spirit? In Acts 8:5-8, Philip, one of the deacons, went to Samaria and turned a whole city upside down. In Acts 13:6-12, when Paul was preaching to a governor, and a sorcerer was trying to hinder him, Paul, full of the Holy Spirit, moved the mountain out of the way and got his victory by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We believers are dealing with a world called the New Age. They are working overtime to win our youths over with magic, and we need to demonstrate greater power to silence them so the youths do not give in to their devices. This power is available in God for all those who are willing to pay the price, but unfortunately, in a very subtle manner, the devil is pushing the church to lukewarmness.
You need to realise that whenever Jesus taught in a place, the Bible says that the power of God was always present to heal. I have discovered that when we preach about healing, God heals. When we tag a service ‘deliverance night’, a lot of demonised people in attendance will get delivered. We choose themes that show God that we are keenly interested in doing His works. He said that He will baptise you with the Holy Ghost and with fire (Luke 3:16). There is a difference between just speaking in tongues and having the fire behind your tongues. When you are baptised by the Holy Spirit and fire, it will be evident; miracles will happen, souls will be won, and the whole world will bow to our Lord. Seek the fire today!
PRAYER POINT:
Father, baptise me with Your fire!

HYMN 4. TO THE WORK! TO THE WORK! WE ARE SERVANTS OF GOD.
1. To the work! To the work! We are servants of God,
Let us follow the path that our Master has trod;
With the balm of His counsel our strength to renew,
Let us do with our might what our hands find to do.
Refrain:
Toiling on, toiling on,
Toiling on, toiling on:
Let us hope, let us watch,
And labor till the Master comes.
2. To the work! to the work! let the hungry be fed;
To the fountain of life let the weary be led;
In the cross and its banner our glory shall be,
While we herald the tidings, “Salvation is free!” [Refrain]
3. To the work! to the work! there is labor for all;
For the kingdom of darkness and error shall fall;
And the name of Jehovah exalted shall be,
In the loud-swelling chorus, “Salvation is free!” [Refrain]
4. To the work! to the work! in the strength of the Lord,
And a robe and a crown shall our labor reward;
When the home of the faithful our dwelling shall be,
And we shout with the ransomed, “Salvation is free!” [Refrain]
Thank You Jesus,

John_5-24: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life
32:22. And he arose that night and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven sons, and crossed over the ford of Jabbok.
32:23. He took them, sent them over the brook, and sent over what he had.
32:24. Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.
32:25. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him.
32:26. And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”
32:27. So He said to him, “What [is] your name?” He said, “Jacob.”
32:28. And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
32:29. Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell [me] Your name, I pray.” And He said, “Why [is] it [that] you ask about My name?” And He blessed him there.
32:30. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
32:31. Just as he crossed over Penuel the sun rose on him, and he limped on his hip.
32:32. Therefore to this day the children of Israel do not eat the muscle that shrank, which [is] on the hip socket, because He touched the socket of Jacob’s hip in the muscle that shrank.
Jacob had previously encountered angels but as he was alone on his journey to where God had asked him to go, he had a life-changing encounter. The importance of being alone with God, especially in the early morning of the day, cannot be overemphasised. In summary, it leads to the refreshing of the soul. In Jacob’s case, it led to identity transformation and a blessing. Jacob had earlier lied that his name was Esau when he was asking for his father’s blessing and now, he was asking for another blessing from the man that wrestled with him. The first question put forward to him was to say what his name was. This time around, he told his real name. The name was bad and so it was changed. No matter how bad your identity is, God is not bothered by it. All He needs is for you to come as you are and He will change and bless you. After Jacob revealed his real identity, his name was changed and he was blessed. Learn to be true when you are in God’s presence so that you can receive the very help you need. Pray every day and never give up (Luke 18: 1).
PRAYER: Present yourself as you are to God and ask Him to show you mercy.

MEMORISE: Then shall they cry unto the Lord, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings. Micah 3:4
READ: Isaiah 59:1-2
1 Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy that it cannot hear:
2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
MESSAGE.
When you spray a fire extinguisher over fire, it dies off. In the same vein, certain things act as prayer extinguishers. If such things exist in our lives, we will not get answers to our prayers because the prayers will die off before they get to God.
Sin is the first thing that extinguishes our prayers the moment they leave our lips. David said in Psalm 66:18: If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:
If sin is in your heart, it will extinguish your prayer, and God will not hear it, even if you scream aloud while praying. In Isaiah 59:1-2, the Bible says that sin creates such a huge distance between God and us that He cannot hear us, nor can His hand reach us.
Even when a genuine man of God prays for a sinner, the prayer will be extinguished by the sins of that sinner unless he or she repents. Many years ago, when the congregation was not as large as it is now, and I could lay hands on everyone, a woman came to one of our Holy Ghost Services. She had been married for many years without a child and had been told that I have a special anointing for making the barren fruitful. I laid hands on her during the service, and she fell under the anointing. However, months after that, she still did not conceive. She came back complaining, “They told me that when you lay hands on me, I will fall, and then I will become fruitful, but up to now, there is still no child”. I thought she needed an extra dose of the anointing and was about to pray for her again when God told me, “Son, ask her how many boyfriends she has.” It was hard to ask her the question, but I managed to mumble the words. She replied that she had six boyfriends. I exclaimed, “Ah! And you expect my God to answer your prayer?” Yes, I prayed for her and laid hands on her, but her sin extinguished the prayers.
Check yourself before you pray to be sure that you don’t have any sin in your heart because if sin is present, your prayers will go to waste. Repent of the sin first, then you can be sure that God will answer your prayers. The only prayer that God will hear from a sinner is the prayer of repentance from sin because as long as sin exists in his or her life, God will not hear him or her (Isaiah 59:1-2).
KEY POINT
Sin extinguishes prayers.

1. Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
2. Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
3. Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.
4. Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,
Every power as Thou shalt choose.
5. Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
6. Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

Our text this morning is taken from the Book of Ruth 1: 1 – 6, “Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons. 2 And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name ofhis wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.
3 And Elimelech Naomi’s husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.4 And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years.
5 And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.6 Then she arose with her daughters in law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the Lord had visited his people in giving them bread”. Praise the living Jesus!
The title this morning is Hope in Difficult Times; I don’t know what difficulty you are facing now, I don’t know what challenge troubles you, I don’t know what gives you anxiety, but I stand here to assure you in the name of the Lord that this morning, your fear will turn to joy, because God will give you hope that will enable you to overcome them in the name of Jesus.
God works in a way that only He is the Director of our lives and the Author of all things, He’s a super Arranger. This morning at the workers’ meeting, we discussed about the cost of living and we said so many things about the challenge that we face now in the country and how to survive, and as the Lord will have it, now we are talking about the hope in difficult times, somebody will receive hope this morning in the name of Jesus.
Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire that something good will happen. It means to be optimistic or have a positive mind that that which you are looking forward to will happen, and if you have a negative experience, hope is expectation that that negative experience will turn to a good one, praise the living Jesus!
There is no time that you need hope more than in times of difficulties, challenges, we need hope throughout our lives, indeed, hope is the oxygen for life for believers. Just as faith is the currency of believers, faith is the currency we spend in the kingdom of God because the Bible says the just shall live by faith, Romans 1: 17. Hope is the oxygen, it’s what we breathe, what gives us life as believers, that’s why Ecclesiastes 9: 4 says that as long as there is life, there is hope; there is hope for a dog that is alive than for a lion that is dead.
A man can lose all things but when he loses hope, he’s lost everything; a hopeless man is as good as a dead man, and so it’s important for us to appreciate the essence of hope in a time like this when we have problems, challenges all over; we have difficulty in our society that affects everyone; we have personal difficulties that come in various shapes, it could be health challenges, it could be marital, it could be about our careers, it could be about our academics, finances, businesses failing, disappointments, betrayals, all manner of disloyalties, all manner of things that will challenge even the most righteous person; no matter how well you are doing, no matter what you put into life, one thing we do not have is that nobody has immunity against trouble, what God has promised us is not immunity against trouble, but victory over trouble.
Jesus said in John 16: 33, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” In other words, troubles will come; if you live long enough, troubles will come, challenges will come, we have no control over what life will throw at us but we have control over our own response. You can’t determine what life will throw at you; you wake up on a beautiful morning with high expectations of a brilliant day, suddenly, life begins to throw you all manner of lemons, so it depends on what you make with the lemons that life throws at you – you can kick it away, you can make it into a lemonade, you can do whatever you want with it.
So what matters really is our response to what life throws at us, and most times it’s our response that makes the difference. A lot of people are destroyed, not by the problems they face but by their own response to the problems.
That’s why it is important for us in a time like this to watch our response, and in our text that we have read this morning, there are so many lessons that we can learn from the story of the family of Naomi, but we just want to take one aspect of it this morning, to learn lessons about how we can respond with hope in troubling times, in difficult times, and God will help us in the name of Jesus.
Psalm 34: 19 says that “Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivereth him out of them all”, in other words, when trouble comes, nobody is immune, even the righteous, even the saints, it’s not always about sin, hallelujah! In the Bible you’ll find people like Abraham, Joseph, who had challenges, even Apostle Paul, the Apostles of Jesus Christ, challenges will always come, but the question is how do you respond to challenges?
Now let’s quickly look at this story and see what we can learn from the trouble – this was a time when there was trouble in Israel, difficulties, economic challenges, famine, just as we have now in our generation, what is happening today in this nation is not peculiar, every generation has its challenges.
Famine at this time when Ruth lived was an economic challenge, was an economic difficulty, and then look at the way they responded: Elimelech was the head of the family, what did he do? Immediately the problem came, he packed up together his family and he ran away from Israel to Moab, hallelujah! And let’s see what Moab represents, he ran to Moab which was an accursed land; the ancestor of the nation of Moab was Moab, the son that Lot had through incest with his first daughter.
In Genesis 37: 7 – 11, after Lot had ran away from Sodom and Gomorrah and his daughters made him drunk and then they made him to sleep with his first daughter, Moab was the fruit of the incestuous relationship, so that son (Moab) was the founder of the nation of Moab, and Moab was reputed and notorious to be the enemies of Israel. If you look at Numbers 22 – 23, it was the king if Moab, Balak, who tried to use Balaam to curse the Israelites, and God helped them and He ended up cursing Balak and his people, so it was an accursed nation and that was where Mr. Elimelech ran to when there was trouble – from frying pan to fire as they say.
You will recall that Lot himself, the father of Moab, when there was trouble, there was a challenge, difficulty between him and his uncle, Abraham, that out of greed, he chose the land that became Sodom and Gomorrah and what happened to him there, he lost everything that he took to Sodom and Gomorrah except his own life and his daughters, everything he took to the land that was accursed was destroyed.
The same thing that Elimelech did here; because trouble came, he ran away to a land that was accursed, God did not lead him, he did what other people were doing and then he met with destruction, everything he took to that land, he lost; he lost his own life, he lost his two sons and everything that he had because God did not lead him.
Compare the case of Elimelech to that of Isaac in Genesis 26; when there was also economic trouble in the land and Isaac also wanted to run away because initially, the first thing that comes to our mind when there is trouble is either we run away out of hopelessness – you run away because even if you have faith in God, you do not see hope in that place anymore, and that place may not just be your nation, it may be your marriage, it may be your career, it may be your business, it may be your relationship, it may be just anything, whatever gives you trouble or challenges is your own Israel, and then when challenges come, you have a choice of either running away as Elimelech did, running away in hopelessness because you believe that it cannot get better or you stay and let God lead you and be part of the solution, and that was what Isaac did.
Isaac was going to obey his natural instinct also and to run away to Egypt as his father did but he heard from God; God speaks to His children during difficult times, God never forsakes His children, in fact, it is in difficulties like these that God always speaks, but it depends on whether you hear Him or not, it depends on whether you take your challenges to Him and you ask Him or not, because in difficult times, the devil is also at alert trying to divert people from the trouble they think they have into worse problems.
So you have two choices to make in a time of trouble; it could be in your marriage, it could be in your business, either of two responses, how do you respond? It could be a medical situation, how do you respond? And doctors just tell you, oh there’s nothing we can do anymore, how do you respond? You can either respond in hope in God that it will get better.
Hope is the mother of faith; faith is to believe that God will do what He will do, but hope is to expect that God will do what He will do. When hope is lost, when you have no expectation, faith is dead. Like in the nation today, we have believers who have faith in God but we have lost hope in our nation, so we are living in hopelessness and so we are looking for situations, whatever happens we just get out or whatever we need to do in whatever comes our way, but we look at the example of this man who had a challenge, who did not hear from God, who just wanted to get the next bus to get out of the place; he may be a believer, he may believe in God but the man had no hope that things were going to change, but I pray for you this morning that whatever you are facing in your personal life, in your career, in your business, whatever it is where you have challenges, that God will restore hope in you in the name of Jesus.
The hope that would enable you to stay, Romans 15: 13, it tells us that God is the source of hope, hallelujah! “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost”. What we need more, we need faith but we also need hope; faith enables you to stand but hope keeps you standing even when faith becomes weak.
In John 11, when he was sick and they came to call Jesus and He was going to their house and suddenly He had something to do and then Lazarus died, when He got to the home of Mary and Martha, Martha said to Him, Lord, if You had been here, my brother wouldn’t have died, but in any case, I know that God will do whatever I ask.
Jesus said to her, your brother will rise again. Martha believed Jesus but she had lost hope, she said yes, I know, but on the resurrection. So she had no hope, at that point she still had faith in Christ but she had no hope, she had lost hope of her brother rising physically, she thought oh yes, he’s going to rise on the resurrection.
So you can still have faith – be a man of faith, be a woman of faith, but if you allow hope to die, then the faith becomes nothing else, thank God for Christ that He is Christ, that Christ can do anything, that His mercy can overcome even our faith and our hopelessness. And I pray that this morning, wherever your faith is weak or your hope is dwindling, the mercy of God will overcome and prevail in the mighty name of Jesus.
Now let’s look at the case of this man, Elimelech, again in a deeper way and see how it reflects, how it affects us in the challenges we face today in our own personal lives because I know we are going through a lot of things; a few months ago, I woke up on a beautiful morning with my wife and I was at work when I got a call that was totally devastating, so it’s possible for something to just happen but how do you respond – do you respond in despair?
A sudden loss of job, the loss of a loved one, these things will happen; you just went for a walk into a hospital casually for a normal routine check and you have a terrible result from the lab, what do you do? If you give up on your marriage easily rather than staying there in hope looking for a dilution, you are following Elimelech‘s example.
If you give up in the challenge that faces you in your business or your career, because there is problem in that business, in your career, whatever it is, you are being victimized, things are not working the way you expect them to work and you give up, and because you are saying to yourself that I have no hope here, I still believe in God, I have faith in God, but I don’t think there’s going to be a change, because once you continue to have hope, hope (as I said) is the oxygen that keeps us alive.
For as long as you see hope in that marriage, something will keep you there; for as long as you see hope in that career, something will keep you there; for as long as you see hope in that relationship, something will keep you there; for as long as you see hope in that business, you will keep trying but the moment you lose hope and you didn’t ask God, you just look for a way to just escape immediately, then you are following Elimelech‘s example. Praise the living Jesus!
If you give up hope on that child who is proving difficult, who is challenged, oh I’ve tried my best, I can’t kill myself, you give up hope, you are following Elimelech‘s example. Whatever you give up hope on, you give up hope upon your nation, today, most of us have given up hope and we are looking for all manners of escapes, we are following Elimelech‘s example.
We need to believe God, the only thing that we have is hope in this world, as Apostle Paul said, he said we have all men miserable. As believers, coupled with faith in Christ, we must never allow hope to die, when hope dies, a man will enter into any bus; when hope dies, a man will take any kind of action; when hope dies, everything else dies in a man.
If you have a terrifying health challenge, rather than turn to God no matter what the doctors have said… there’s a recent case of somebody very close to us, you could see her looking very healthy, she just went to the hospital and came out with the result that she had stage 4 cancer. She went to one of the doctors abroad, he said look, we can’t do anything for you, she said I have hope in my God. Today, she’s alive and kicking, several months, over a year after, hallelujah!
God never disappoints the hope of His children, just like a parent, no matter what happens, a little child always has hope that my father will show up, my mother will show up; he doesn’t know how they are going to do it but that they are going to do something. As long as you have hope, no matter how little it is, you remain a candidate of God’s miracles, but when you lose hope, you are far from the miracle of God, and as a matter of fact, it is in challenging times like these that God is looking for people that have hope.
When Jesus was approached by the Samarian woman, you know that normally Jews do not have relationship with them, she said oh, my daughter is sick, come and heal her. Jesus said I have nothing to do with you; He said well, you can’t give the meat of the child to the dog and the woman said, even dogs eat from the crumbs, and Jesus Christ said wow, not even in Israel did I find such faith. The woman not only showed faith, she showed hope, she refused to go, because when Jesus abused them, even though she had faith in Him, she could have walked on and say look, there’s no room there.
So faith must be coupled with hope; for an unbeliever who doesn’t trust God, he doesn’t have faith in God, his hope is only upon the things of this world which can disappear, and so when those things are removed, he goes with them; but for us as believers, knowing that we are only in this world and we are not of this world, and that in spite of what we see or what we have here, we still have the hope of a better tomorrow, nothing should make us hopeless, not what we see, not what we expect, not what is around us; if what is around us, the physical evidence of what we see is what we have hope in, they can be taken away from us anytime.
If your hope is in your properties, your accumulation, that’s why those whose strength lie in their accumulations, they are to be pitied. If your strength, your hope is oh, let me accumulate everything, what belongs to a whole city, a whole nation, you grabbed it alone out of greed, and you look at your property like the rich man in the Bible who looked at his full barn and said oh, I did this, okay so my future is secure, let me bring it down and build it again.
His hope was in his own ability, his hope was in the things he saw, the things he could do but if your hope is beyond all that, it doesn’t matter what goes on around you, it doesn’t matter what you experience in that marriage, it doesn’t matter what you are experiencing in your business, it doesn’t matter what you are experiencing in your career, unless God speaks to you, as long as you believe you were there originally not by your own leading but by the leading that God put you there and troubles come, the fact that God puts you does not mean that problems will not come.
Oh, but I prayed before I got into this marriage; oh, I prayed before I got this job, the fact that you prayed and God led you to it does not mean that challenges will not come, but He has promised you that He will enable you to prevail, just as we heard in that song, there is no situation that God cannot fix; there is no marriage that God cannot fix, there’s no business God cannot fix, there is nothing that is taken away from you that God cannot restore.
People can gang up against you, they can delay your promotion, they can do all manner of things and bypass you, it is just because your due season has not come, when your due season comes, no man can stop you. But if you run away and say oh, they are blocking me here, oh, they are delaying me here and you just take your own decision on your own and you move out, the result may not be palatable. Praise the living Jesus!
By going to Moab, Elimelech missed the chance of experiencing God’s miraculous turnaround. Apart from losing all that he took to Moab, because he acted out of instinct, because he allowed his flesh to lead him, because he allowed his difficulty that he saw to speak to him and to motivate him to action, he lost all that he took to the wrong place, number one; secondly, he missed the opportunity to experience God’s miracle, hallelujah!
Every time you run away from trouble and challenge, you miss the opportunity to have a testimony. The mountain that God wants to remove so you can have a testimony; other people are giving testimonies and you don’t know when your own will come, when will your testimony come, because the mountain God wants to remove to give you a testimony, you have managed to evade it; the Red Sea that God wants to open for you to pass so that you can have a testimony, you have managed to go another route. The Goliath God wants you to confront so that you can beat him down, overcome and have a testimony, you have run away from the Goliath.
Those who run away from challenges because of hopelessness never have testimonies, hallelujah! You need to stand and face your Goliath with the help of God, with God leading you. You need to stand and confront your Red Sea with God leading you.
And if you look at all these examples, each time the people that did this miracle didn’t do it by their own power, it was God that showed Moses because he knew that by his own power he could do nothing. They could have said oh look at this Red Sea, let’s run away to another place, because the Bible tells us there was actually another route they could have taken to the Promised Land but God knew why He led them that path.
God knows why He has allowed that challenge in your life, and when it’s the due season when He has done His miracle, He will make you a conqueror, hallelujah! In God’s kingdom if you look at the lives of all the men of God that we refer to in the scriptures, they all were promoted through challenges, they all rose to the position of prominence by overcoming challenges, they didn’t run away from troubles, they didn’t look for the easiest way out but they were led.
Moses was led to part the Red Sea; David was led to kill Goliath; Joseph was led in remaining righteous despite all the troubles he had, and because he saw the hand of God in the trouble he was going through and when eventually he met with his brothers, rather than revenging, he said no, I don’t have to revenge, you thought you were doing evil but I knew what God was doing, hallelujah!
Eventually a turnaround came to the land of Judah after many years that this man who ran away rather than face the situation with hope in God, with God leading him to survive, because not everybody ran away, other people stayed there in that same trouble.
After a few years, he had lost everything, Naomi now came back; now look at Naomi, the wife, after she had lost her husband and her two sons and she heard that things were turning around in Israel, you know she could have said I can’t go back out of shame, because everything that she took to Moab she had lost; some of us would say I would rather die than go back in shame, people will laugh at me, all manner of things.
Look, no matter how far you travel in a wrong vehicle, unless you disembark and turn round, you won’t get to your destination. Many of us are traveling in vehicles today that are wrong and we need to get out of. So she said look, I will rather face the shame than continuing here in this suffering; I hear that things have changed in my land, so she responded by discarding shame and then she went back.
Her husband missed that testimony, when she went back, things became better, eventually, a woman who had no more children, no more grandchildren, at the end of the day, when she went back, because God was actually doing something in that land in spite of that famine, God turned that land that was in famine (that was the land of Israel) into a land that became prosperous.
And when they got back, if you read the rest of the story, Ruth, who went with her met with a kinsman called Boaz and then had a child called Obed. Obed became the father of Jesse, the father of David, and then Ruth became an ancestor to our Lord Jesus Christ, and Naomi who had lost everything when she went to Moab was fully restored and also became a great-great-grandmother of our Lord Jesus Christ.
You can see how God can turn things around depending on how you respond to difficulties, you must always respond with hope alive, when we lose hope we lose everything.
So what can we do when we face difficulties?
Let us surrender to God in that difficult situation in your marriage, in your
career, in your health, in your business, in your finances, even in the economy situation in the country today, even with all the policies that government is bringing out every day, it looks like the more policies that are being brought out, the worst the problems are. That shows you that is when God is in control that He can fix it, and God will fix our nation in the mighty name of Jesus.
Surrender your life, first and foremost, because it’s about relationship, and times like this when there are problems in the nation, God picks His own; He picked Isaac and transformed his life in famine; when there was famine also in Zarephath, God located the widow of Zarephath.
In times of troubles and challenges, God makes poster boys and girls of His own children, but it depends on the faith that you show and the hope that you have. If you have no hope, that is the greatest act of vote of no confidence in God, because you are saying that you don’t expect anything from God. Even when your faith is dwindling, God can help you with your faith, You can help my unbelief, but when you say I’ve lost hope, there’s nothing to fuel your faith, hope is what fuels faith, and without faith, God can hardly act. Faith is what moves the hand of God but hope is the mother of faith.
What am I saying? No matter how tough the situation is, hand it over to God and have hope, you don’t know how it’s going to happen, it is God who is the source of hope, knowing that in spite of everything, you can imagine like a child who is in trouble and then maybe some people want to take him and he says don’t worry, my daddy will come, and then the father knows that my son is out there and then people will say we saw your son, he said we should leave him that his daddy will come. Even if there’s trouble, you think the man will stay at home? He will go out and take him because he’s heard that his son is saying you people can go, my daddy will come and pick me.
When we keep up hope alive in God no matter what we see, God will go out of His way to rescue us. No matter how far deep you have gone in trouble today, with your hope restored, God will lift you out of that miry clay in the name of the Lord Jesus.
That was why, when the three Hebrew boys – Shedrach, Meschach and Abednego were going into the fiery furnace of fire, it wasn’t just faith, it was also hope. They had faith in God and then they said you can throw us in, our God will help us out and if not…but they had expectation. The Bible says in Proverbs that the expectations of the righteous shall never be cut off; expectation means hope, as long as you have hope in God no matter how tiny that hope is, it will not be cut off because the Bible says that God never forsakes His own, He never forsakes the righteous.
No matter what you go through, even in the thick of sickness, no matter the result you receive, have hope, expect that God will do something. In your marital travail, have hope; in your business, have hope, and God will not disappoint your hope in the name of Jesus.
So no matter the gravity of the situation, make sure you receive the leading
of God before you take a step. If God will actually ask you to leave or to have a change to have this solution, of course no problem, when God is the One behind you, He will take care of you.
So apart from giving your hope alive and having a relationship and that’s why you are here this morning you haven’t given your life to Jesus, that’s your first solution, your first pathway out of trouble; after that, ensure that before you take a step in that your difficulty, don’t just copy other people, don’t do what others are doing, don’t listen to all manner of advise, listen to God first, do what God asks you to do which was what Isaac did, which was made a difference between him and Elimelech, God will honor your faith in the name of Jesus.
Finally, never give up hope. The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 9:4 (as we said
before) that a living dog, you know how weak a dog is compared to a lion, how powerless it is but it says as long as there is life and there is hope, God will do something, hallelujah!
Let’s rise to our feet this morning; the greatest hope that we have as believers, our greatest blessing as believers apart from salvation is that we have the hope that is beyond this world, all the things that we are going through now are temporary and they will end one day, hallelujah!
No matter the challenges, no matter the trouble, everybody will one day, whether rich or poor leave everything here, and those whose hope is only in this world will have been losers, but as believers in Christ, in spite of what we go through, we have an eternal hope of heaven, hallelujah!
So our journey here is temporary, our challenges are temporary, our losses are temporary, but for those who don’t have hope in God, whose hope is only in this world, their loss is permanent, but I pray this morning that your loss will not be permanent, as a matter of fact, your loss shall be restored into profit in the name of Jesus.
Let’s bow our heads for a minute and as you bow your heads I want you to talk to God, no matter what you are going through, just talk to God, Father help me this morning, help my faith help my hope, I surrender everything to You Lord, Father help me this morning.
[Altar call]
Commit that challenge that is tasking your faith and hope into the hands of God, say Lord help me, I cannot do it alone, my hope is ebbing out, Lord help me, strengthen me, never let hope go.
Beloved, the man is as good as dead in whom hope is lost; the man/woman is as good as dead in whom hope is no more. It doesn’t matter how long you have waited, don’t give up hope, when you give up hope, you forsake the opportunity for a testimony for a miracle.
The man is as good as dead in whom hope is lost; no matter how small that hope is, is what draws the attention of God to you, God wants to see your hope this morning, (raise up your right hand) say Father, I raise my hand to You this morning signifying my hope in You, Father please, let my hope not be disappointed in the name of Jesus.
Lord I raise my hand to signify my hope in spite of my troubles in my health, in my marriage, in my career, in my business, this is the hand of hope saying You can do it, I know You will do it, Father honor my hope this morning, honor my hope oh God, honor my expectation according to Your word, You said my hope will never be cut off, honor my hope of God, thank You precious Father, in Jesus name we prayed.
Heavenly Father we thank You, You are the source of our hope, that’s why no matter what we face here we will still stand, looking only unto You the Author and Finisher of our faith, because men may fail us, government may fail us, family may fail us but You will never fail us, thank You Father for being the Father of our hope, King of glory we worship You, we honor You, we adore You, in Jesus mighty name we prayed.
Thank You Jesus,

The first time Jesus Christ appeared on earth; He came to reconcile man to God. He died on the cross and shed His blood, to take away our sins and rose again.
When He was about to leave, He promised that He will come back again, John 14 v 3 and Acts 1v10-11. His ascension was bodily and visible. The second coming will be during The Rapture. The time is not known by any man. Matt 24 v 42 only God knows, and Matt 24 v 36. We should note that, the Bible reveals that, some things must happen first before He returns, Matt 24 v 1-14. There shall be wars, and rumours of war, pestilence, earthquakes and famine. Many false prophets will come, and iniquities shall abound, and the love of many shall wax cold. Most, if not all of these have happened. We are therefore in the LAST DAYS, and He may come back anytime from now.
In this study we are looking at The Rapture, but there are many other series of events that will follow The Rapture, examples are “The Great Tribulation, The Anti-Christ, The Battle of Armageddon, The Millennial Reign, to mention just a few. We will take a close look at The Rapture event.
OUTLINE I:
What is The Rapture?
I. The word Rapture is derived from a Latin Word (Raptus), which means to carry off or to seize, it can also mean intense excitement. Believers/ Saints will be carried off from this world, suddenly. 1 Thes: 4v16-17.
ii. It is expected to precede The Great Tribulation i.e. the period of the Antichrist reign. 1 Thes: 1v10, Rom 5:9.
iii. Examples of such in the Bible are Enoch and Elijah. Hebrews 11v5 and 2
Kings 2v11.
OUTLINE 2:
When And How It Would Happen?
i. The exact time is not known, Matt 24 v 42 and Matt 24 v 36.
ii. The Trumpet of God will sound. 1 Cor 15v52, 1 Thes: 4v16.
iii. The dead in Christ will rise first- John 5v25.
iv. The Saints that are alive will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air. I Thes: 4v17.
v. The Saints shall be transformed and put on immortal bodies, Phil 3v20- 21
vi. There shall be extraordinary chaos on earth, after rapture- Matt 24v40- 42, Luke 17v35-36.
OUTLINE 3:
Who Will Be Raptured?
i. Those that are in Christ at His coming- John 1 v12, John 3v16
ii. Those who love the Lord and keep His commandments – John 14 v 15.
iii. Those who are living Holy. I Peter 1v15-16
OUTLINE 4.
What Will Happen To Those Who Are Left Behind?
i. Those left behind will face the Tribulation period which means trouble, hardship and distress all over the world.
ii. It begins after The Rapture. 2 Thes: 2v8-9
iii. The believer that will not cooperate with the Anti-Christ will be killed. Matt 10v21.
CONCLUSION
We must be prepared to go with the Saints at Rapture. Those believers who are not ready will face untold hardships that have not been experienced before.
May God help us to be ready, in Jesus Name, Amen!
PRAISE THE LORD.
Thank You Jesus,

For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.
I BELIEVE.
I believe that the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, to make me what God wants me to be in this year of my enlargement, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
– ISAIAH 54:2 KJV
DAILY PROPHETIC CONFESSION.
But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, will go into the lower parts of the earth. They will fall by the sword and they will be portions for foxes, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
– PSALM 63:9-10 KJV.
PROPHETIC EXHORTATION AND DECLARATIONS.
Beloved, before the end of this year, expect a sudden promotion; expect a sudden elevation; expect a sudden lifting; expect a sudden turnaround; expect a sudden divine visitation by the DIVINE FAVOUR of GOD, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
God rules and reigns over the affairs of men to watch over those that are HIS own. He cannot afford to allow the wicked to dominate you. He has always intervened to order the course of things in the world through DIVINE PROMOTION.
Mordecai was promoted when he did not expect it. Esther was preferred as the Queen over Queen Vasti when she did not expect it. Joseph was taken from the prison and made a Prime Minister when he did not expect it.
Friends, believe it or not, divine promotion is possible. You will receive your own, in the name of Jesus Christ.
I prophesy, single ladies, single women, single parents, and expectant couples, receive divine promotion to your next level of marital breakthroughs. Whatever is holding you captive will release you today. Whether it is hatred, bad habits, anger, jealousy, family pattern, or strange powers saying no to your marriage next level, I release you today. Go and fulfil your destiny, in the name of Jesus Christ.
I prophesy, before the end of this year, expect a financial miracle; expect a financial lifting; expect a financial breakthrough; expect a financial blessing ; expect a financial gift, in the name of Jesus Christ .
I decree, your career will experience a boast; your career will experience a lifting; your career will experience a sudden turnaround; that next promotion exam and interview will end in success. Any man-made policy that is meant to stagnate your career will be set aside for your favour; whoever is overdue for retirement for you to be lifted will go and you will receive your overdue promotion, in the name of Jesus Christ.
In the name of Jesus Christ, your business will receive national recognition; global recognition; your business will flourish; your business will blossom; your business will bloom, in the name of Jesus Christ.
I prophesy, God will qualify you for that job and that contract; you will not experience a meltdown; you will not experience a financial meltdown; no business meltdown; no career meltdown; no marital meltdown, in the name of Jesus Christ.
I decree, the government of the day in your country at the national, state, and local level will favour you; governmental policies will favour your career, favour your business, favour your work, favour your spouse, favour your children, and favour your children’s children, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Prophesy divine promotion upon yourself and your family as led by the Holy Spirit.

My son and I needed to go to the bank to sort out some things, but then Mrs. Alder decided to tag along. She needed to get some things from the supermarket.
I soon found myself at Waitrose, gazing longingly at banned substances – ice cream, popsicles, chocolate bars, and decadent cakes. They were winking at me. I watched helplessly as Mrs Alder picked seaweed snacks instead. Who in his right mind eats seaweed instead of chocolate?! Shouldn’t the word “weed” be a warning?
I was asked to weigh in on choice of Basmati rice. She had two types in her hands. As I looked at the two packets, I surmised one would weigh more than the other, but the one that weighed more may not necessarily contain more grains of rice.
Reminds me of the difference between weight and mass in physics. Mass is the number of grains of rice in each packet. Weight is the downward push of each packet in her hands. In other words, weight is determined by gravity. Because gravity is weaker on the moon, for example, everything weighs less than on earth, but mass doesn’t change. The number of rice grains remains the same no matter the location.
That is an analogy of the difference between morality and righteousness. Righteousness is the amount of God stuff in you. It doesn’t change no matter what. It is constant.
Moral quotient, on the other hand, is variable. It is determined by the weight of sin in each life. Salvation is not based on morality. No one can meet the sinless standard. It’s by grace.
Don’t confuse morality with righteousness. If you sin, simply ask God for forgiveness and move on. Your righteousness doesn’t change. In the New Testament, righteousness is not earned. It’s imputed. That doesn’t mean you abuse grace. Sin has consequences.
Thank You Jesus,

31:1. Now [Jacob] heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, “Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s, and from what was our father’s he has acquired all this wealth.”
31:2. And Jacob saw the countenance of Laban, and indeed it [was] not [favorable] toward him as before.
31:3. Then the LORD said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers and to your family, and I will be with you.”
31:4. So Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field, to his flock,
31:5. and said to them, “I see your father’s countenance, that it [is] not [favorable] toward me as before; but the God of my father has been with me.
31:6. “And you know that with all my might I have served your father.
31:7. “Yet your father has deceived me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not allow him to hurt me.
31:8. “If he said thus: ‘The speckled shall be your wages,’ then all the flocks bore speckled. And if he said thus: ‘The streaked shall be your wages,’ then all the flocks bore streaked.
31:9. “So God has taken away the livestock of your father and given [them] to me.
31:10. “And it happened, at the time when the flocks conceived, that I lifted my eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the rams which leaped upon the flocks [were] streaked, speckled, and gray-spotted.
31:11. “Then the Angel of God spoke to me in a dream, saying, ‘Jacob.’ And I said, ‘Here I am.’
31:12. “And He said, ‘Lift your eyes now and see, all the rams which leap on the flocks [are] streaked, speckled, and gray-spotted; for I have seen all that Laban is doing to you.
31:13. ‘I [am] the God of Bethel, where you anointed the pillar [and] where you made a vow to Me. Now arise, get out of this land, and return to the land of your family.’ “
31:14. Then Rachel and Leah answered and said to him, “Is there still any portion or inheritance for us in our father’s house?
31:15. “Are we not considered strangers by him? For he has sold us, and also completely consumed our money.
31:16. “For all these riches which God has taken from our father are [really] ours and our children’s; now then, whatever God has said to you, do it.”
31:17. Then Jacob rose and set his sons and his wives on camels.
31:18. And he carried away all his livestock and all his possessions which he had gained, his acquired livestock which he had gained in Padan Aram, to go to his father Isaac in the land of Canaan.
31:19. Now Laban had gone to shear his sheep, and Rachel had stolen the household idols that were her father’s.
31:20. And Jacob stole away, unknown to Laban the Syrian, in that he did not tell him that he intended to flee.
31:21. So he fled with all that he had. He arose and crossed the river, and headed toward the mountains of Gilead.
31:22. And Laban was told on the third day that Jacob had fled.
31:23. Then he took his brethren with him and pursued him for seven days’ journey, and he overtook him in the mountains of Gilead.
In our time, there is an increase in the degree to which news that is intended to make us panic flood our ears without our permission. From Genesis 31:1-23, we discover that Jacob’s case may not be different from ours, as he was overhearing a greed-filled communication by his uncle’s children over his progress. His life was in danger because greed can lead to murder. But the most compelling part of the story was what governed Jacob’s decision to flee from Laban. Carefully note from the passage Genesis 31: 1-3, vv11-13 that it was never what he heard Laban’s sons discussing that led to his running away from Laban; it was the voice and the dream he had from God. Jacob’s story teaches us the need to get direction from God even when we are already aware of the enemy’s conspiracy. Our God is an all-knowing God who knows the best action we should take over every challenge. Inquire from Him for everything you intend to do. He can direct you through His word or by a dream. Now, to continually get direction from God, we must be acquainted with Him through prayer and studying His word. Do you have a personal relationship with God?.
PRAYER: Father give me direction in every noisy and dangerous situation

Everlasting Father, the King of glory, the Maker of the heavens and the earth, my Rock, my Shield, my Refuge, my Fortress, my Anchor, my Bridge over troubled waters, my Redeemer, my Savior, I just want to bless Your holy name, be thou exalted in the mighty name of Jesus.
Father, thank You, thank You, thank You; for Your faithfulness, we thank You; for Your unhindered ability, we thank You; for all that You have done for us, we say thank You; for the Holy Ghost Congress, we say thank You; for the journey through this week, we say thank You, Father, please accept our thanks in the mighty name of Jesus.
This morning Lord, we come in total submission to You, Lord, speak to us this morning, let us not hear the voice of any man, let us just hear from You, and Lord God Almighty, guide us, direct us, that at the end of this service Lord, surely we would have encountered You in the name of Jesus.
Take all the glory, take all the honor and adoration, in Jesus mighty name we have prayed. Praise the Lord!
I’d like to appreciate our father in the Lord, our PICP, for this opportunity to minister this morning, I do not take it for granted sir, more grace, more anointing in the mighty name of Jesus. And on his behalf, I would like to welcome us all back from the Holy Ghost Congress, if you had an awesome time, can I hear you shout hallelujah!
Just to let you know, we learnt a lot, we got a lot from the Congress, but brethren, it is not enough if we stay at the level of just hearing, we must get into the level of internalizing all that we have learnt, putting to practice all that we have learnt so that our victory will be assured in Jesus mighty name. The Lord will engrace you to do it in Jesus mighty name.
Brethren just to let you know so that we can rest from the Congress activities, there will be no prayer chain here tomorrow, be at your private altars and continue to pray; pray for yourself, pray for the church and pray for the country, and the Lord will answer our prayers in Jesus mighty name.
Brethren, we surely have gotten our victory from the Congress; we started from weeping to the garment of praise, it’s a prayer actually – from weeping to the garment of praise is your portion in Jesus name. We were moved from the miry clay to the rock to stay and we will stay there in Jesus name. All incurables have been healed in the mighty name of Jesus, and the Lord of hosts is fighting our battles for us in Jesus name. And to crown it all, we have indeed been divinely repositioned in the mighty name of Jesus.
I’d just like to read three passages quickly: Micah 6: 8, “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God”? You shall walk humbly with thy God in Jesus name. 1st Peter 5: 5, “Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble”. And the last passage would be Philippians 2: 3, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves”. I pray that God will grant us understanding this morning in Jesus mighty name.
Without a doubt we’ve obtained our victory, but you know, maintaining that victory is very important; we need to sustain that victory. So this morning, I want to talk to us briefly about taming one of the adversaries of victory; you know when you get to a new status, you get a promotion, you get a pay rise, certain things begin to work in your system; you’ll begin to walk differently, you’ll begin to conduct yourself differently, so we need to tame some of these adversaries that can hinder our victory, our victory will not be hindered in the mighty name of Jesus.
When you are at the mountaintop is when you need to be most vigilant. I’m sure some of you know that I support a club side that finds it difficult to stay at the top of the table they find themselves and they fell yesterday, you and I will not fall in Jesus name. I would have loved to pray for that club but you know that my father in the Lord here supports another side, so before I get driven out of this altar, I will behave myself.
But you see, this morning I want us to talk about something I’ve termed, “Taming Our Ego”, God will help us to tame our ego in the mighty name of Jesus. So I’m sure some would be looking and saying – there’s a term I have, AOB, you can go and find out by yourself; you know people will be looking at me, who is he to be talking about ego? But I know this morning, the message is for me, I don’t know whether it is about you, but I know it is for me and God will help me to learn in Jesus name.
What is ego? Ego is a person’s self-esteem and self importance. You know there are some Yoruba words that you cannot translate to English, one such word is ‘igberaga’, can you translate igberaga to English? No English word is suitable, do you agree with me? Ego is an inflated feeling of pride in superiority to others. If you could maintain it to yourself, okay a bit, but when you then begin to use it in relation to another person, big problem; and when you are over-conscious of your identity; I’m sure some of us would have walked into church today and said you know what, I need to go and sit in that vantage position, don’t the ushers know who I am? Doesn’t the church know that I’m doing them a favor by being here? God will deliver you, God will deliver me in Jesus mighty name.
Let me give a caveat please, around this issue of ego, there is the obvious ego that people see and they know you are an egocentric person, and there is the one that you are aware of. The one that even though you are almost prostrating to the other person, ‘good morning, bro, good morning, sister’, but you know in your heart, you are saying it’s because of church I’m doing this, God will deliver us from all of these in Jesus name,
What are the synonyms for ego? Self-pride, self- admiration; the ‘pepper them gang’, I must kill them with the way I look. Some people are not in church today because their tailors (apologies to the ladies), your designers have not sent your December clothing to you, because if you cannot pepper us, you will not show up, God will deliver us in Jesus name.
And then if you don’t understand the other synonyms, there’s one you cannot miss which is a Nigerian phenomenon, ‘I better pass my neighbor’, I am better than you. Who has given you the right to ascertain that you are better than the other person? God will help us in Jesus name.
And if you forget anything today, ego is really about edging God out; when you edge God out of your life, you are living contrary to His plan and agenda for your life, God will help you in Jesus name. And peradventure there are psycho analysts and there are motivational speakers, apologies, if we ever have a digging deep on this subject, you can come and canvas your own views; one thing is sure, ego is dangerous, and God will deliver us from it in Jesus name.
Two simple stories: I know about a young man, about 30 years ago he was training somewhere and he desired to work for another organization and God helped him, he got the opportunity to work for that dream organization of his mind; he was happy, he got the letter and he resumed in that organization.
On the day of resumption, his happiness turned to sadness, (the offer letter had not changed, please take note), what had happened? He got into the venue and saw a young lady who was three years his junior in the university and they were going to come in at the same level. His temperament, his blood pressure, everything scattered and he was almost going to walk out, what do you think was at play there? Do you know what helped him from not walking out? I suspect that it was the prayers of his mother who had just started attending the Redeemed Christian Church of God at that time.
That young man is myself; I was looking for a job, I got the job and my ego wanted to get the better out of me, thank God I did not leave, I now got a confirmation there that this was what God wanted me to share with you. So somebody on Friday shared a story, similar circumstance, the person had negotiated the terms, even over-negotiated and wanted more, and the person got into the workplace and found people that he thought were not at her level and she walked away.
I do not know the end of the story, but brethren, ego can take us out of where we ought to be and we need to be very careful, and God will help us in Jesus name.
There are so many egocentric people walking around these days; some obvious, some not obvious, but even let’s go to the Bible and we’ll see a few examples; King Ahab –king, by virtue of his lineage but it was not enough for him, his ego pushed him, he needed to get what belonged to another man. When he couldn’t get it, he then engaged his ego promax wife and they killed an innocent person; that’s King Ahab and we see that story in 1st Kings 21.
Another one, Nabal, just to let you know that these people have been around for a long time, God will deliver us from these traits in Jesus name. 1st Samuel 25: 10 & 11, we see the story of Nabal; somebody had been protecting him, protecting all that belonged to him, providing cover and a simple request was made, Nabal answered David’s servants and said who is David? They might wonder that Nabal was saying who is David; it might be you and I saying who is that brother in church? Who is that usher? Who is that pastor? Doesn’t he know my status? Who is his father? Who is the son of Jesse? There have been many servants nowadays that break away every man for his master; ego can drive you to the place of insanity and we know what happened to Nabal, David did not touch him, he lost his wife to David and God dealt with him. I pray that God will be merciful to us in Jesus name.
We see another example in King Herod in Acts 12: 20 – 23; he got so pumped up like many of us got pumped up, something has happened, we have achieved a particular status, some money has come into our hands, we get pumped up and we start to say see me; some of us even walk round our estates, to walk round our homes, see what I have accomplished.
You remember the song we sang at the beginning of this service? Is it some of what you have has been given to you by God, is it some or all? All, has been given by God. There’s no such thing as a self-made man, if you followed the lyrics of the hymns, please, we share the lyrics so that you can understand; part of the lyrics in the hymns today says that God lends us the breath, can a self-made man have ownership of his breath? God will help us in Jesus name.
Nebuchadnezzar, we see that in Daniel 5: 20 – 30; pumped up man, egocentric man, not only was he pumped up and egocentric, he transferred it to his son, are you aware? Some of us, let’s be careful, the way we behave, that’s why you’d see that there are some spoilt children, you know why they are spoilt? They see the way their fathers carry themselves around and then begin to embrace such, they have not achieved anything in life, the only achievement was that they were born by a supposedly successful father or mother. I pray we will not transfer bad traits to our children in Jesus name.
And in Luke 14 we see a group of people and I pray that those of us here are not in that group, the Pharisees in Luke 14, and you can read the story when you get back home; they wanted to trap Jesus, they wanted to show Jesus that they were spiritually ahead, and many of us in church, I pray for we Christians, the Pentecostals, the attitude we have in the marketplace is such that ‘I am superior to the others’, ‘I am better than the others’.
Brethren, even our Master, the Person we are meant to imitate, our Lord Jesus did not behave like that; what is our work? We do not witness by telling another person that we are better than them or by condemning them, that is egocentricism, I pray that God will help us in Jesus name.
What fuels our ego? We want people to look at us as great, as accomplished people, what fuels our ego? Our wants and our needs; I want to achieve, I want to do this, I want to do that. Let me tell you something, there are people today, God has blessed them but they are not happy, you know why they are not happy? You’ll be surprised, people younger than me would say ‘I never move go Banana’; there is something we need to kill, it’s the spirit of comparison, run your race, that you live in Banana does not make you better than the other person.
And I’d let you know, there are people who live on the mainland, they are tons, multiple times more successful than people that live in Banana. I have nothing wrong with your living in Banana, if that’s what you desire, if that’s what God wants for you, you will live there in Jesus name, but don’t let it be because you want to pepper your friend or your brother or your sister.
What fuels our ego? The need to be right, the need to feel important at all times, I must be right. And parents be very careful, at times, what we demonstrate at home is that as a parent, I am right, I must be right, and you know if you have Yoruba parents, even if they are wrong, you have to dobale and say I’m sorry, e ma binu, God help us.
Short story: my mother had been in the field of finance for a bit and when they had the shares bonanza – buying of shares, I told my mum, okay you have this money, buy these shares. My mother ignored me and went to consult her elder sister, successful trader but she wasn’t literate, and they were wondering whether I was pushing my mother into kalokalo and all of that. And so many of us are like that that a younger person is giving counsel, that a younger person is giving advice, our egos will not accept it.
Fortunately she bought the shares and she’s enjoying the dividends, but you know because I’m a Yoruba son, I cannot tell her that I told you. Some of us will not take counsel from our subordinates in the office, the best ideas are from the ground up, if you are the smartest and the most intelligent person in your office, you need to fire everybody there and get smart people to work with you.
Egocentric people are threatened by smart people, so don’t feel threatened, don’t let your insecurities affect you, I pray God will help us in Jesus name.
When we are egotistic, we fear rejection; somebody tells you no to your view, you are not okay for the next few days. Egocentric people find it difficult to work in committees, because if they work in committees, they must listen to other people’s ideas and I tell you it’s in all of us, I belong to some committees at times, even when they’ve rejected my ideas, I will tell them I want to remind you about my minority view, members of some committees I belong to, I’m sure you know, so I’m reporting myself again.
Egocentric people suffer from what we call a confirmation bias, they are only looking for people who will confirm the things in their mind, they do not want anybody to tell them anything contrary, if you tell them anything contrary, you are in trouble, and that’s why you’re having a lot of Nigerian organizations and even our governance structures people pay more premium to loyalty at the expense of competence. They produce a list of appointments, you can trace, oh, this is why this person is there, because an egocentric leader needs to surround him or herself with loyal people, yes men, yes women, God will help us in Jesus name.
What are the characteristics of an egocentric person? Let’s go to the Bible now and the Pharisees particularly and we can see that in Luke 14, they have what I call double standards, you cannot know where they stand on issues, you know why? The only constant stand they have is the one that is of benefit to them, so they can tell you a decision, today is a yes, because it favors them; the same issue will be a no tomorrow because it’s not in their favor.
The Pharisees say look, you should not heal anybody on the Sabbath day, but if it is their animal or their own stuff, it is okay to heal. Egocentric people have double standards.
Egocentric people elevate themselves over others, and you can see that in Luke 14: 8 – 11; they have inflated ego, so they think they are better than the other person, who are you that you think you are better than the other person? Go to the mortuary and see great people, they are gone.
I think somewhere in Ecclesiastes says that a living dog is better than a dead lion; we are not dogs, we are human beings, we are fearfully and wonderfully made, we are great people, no one will ever bring us down in Jesus name.
Egocentric people only work for their personal gains. Like I mentioned that earlier on, and brethren, the danger in all of these is that when you are egocentric and you are working for your personal gain, you are doing so many things contrary to the will of God; God has set you up for a particular reason and when you do not follow that path, there are dangers, and what are some of these things? You know I said we’ve come back from the Congress and we are victorious, and we will remain victorious in Jesus name.
What are the things that have happened to us when we let our egos get the best out of us? We are setting ourselves up for failure, Proverbs 16: 18 say “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall”. To the married men in here, there’s a scripture that scares me, 1st Peter 3: 7, because when men have ‘arrived’, they cannot be contained, they cannot be controlled, ego comes in.
A couple who has been on the journey for a while, success comes the way of the man and then what happens? Uncontrollable; the children can’t speak to him, the wife can’t speak to him, that’s because of ego and it can constrain our prayers from being answered, that shall not be our portion in Jesus name. It also happens to women as well, by the way.
You become an abomination to God when you are egocentric; Proverbs 16: 5 says “Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: Though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished”. Brethren when you are egocentric, God purposely opposes you; James 4: 6 tells us “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud”; when God resists you, all the things you are doing just falls aside, I pray that will not be our portion in Jesus name.
What happens to us when we are egocentric? We are not learners; only the person who learns grows. Some of us have told ourselves that I have been born again for 40 years, there is nothing they can teach me in digging deep; some people today would say I am not going to wait behind for Sunday school, what can they teach me? In fact, my Sunday school teacher is not the PICP, what will they teach me? Because you are not a learner, you believed you have arrived, may we not arrive prematurely in Jesus mighty name, God will help us in Jesus name.
And as we begin to close, what are the things we can do to tame our ego? And I’ll give you a short story before we continue; the general overseer said that when he was appointed the general overseer, on his table, (you know those olden days my father’s generation time, you will have your name on a mantle or whatever, and all your qualifications, and he said he has his, BSc, MSc, I don’t know whether he had MPhil, PhD, Reverend, Dr. and all of that) and God told him that ogbeni, I cannot use you with this mindset, and what did he do? He forgot about it and only adopted the title ‘Pastor’.
I have real life experience with friends, old schoolmates, these people got their PhDs 30 years after some of our people have gotten theirs, and they will now tell you, Wale, don’t call me by my name, call me by Dr., and you know me, it’s not ego, principles, even the people who were professors before, I started calling them by their names because they did not come to this world with any title, so let’s be careful, you get intoxicated by your accomplishments, God will help us.
So how do we tame our ego? Humility is very key, and humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less, don’t pataki your person (if I can say that), humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He shall lift you up, and we see that in James 4: 10.
Humility is a choice, it’s a choice for us to make, we can choose to be humble, it is possible and I pray that God will help us to be humble in Jesus name. Humility requires our submitting to God’s authority, ‘God, you are the source of all, I submit to you’, and geocentricism will go.
What is another way to tame our ego? Brokenness, Psalms 51: 17 tells us that a broken and a contrite spirit is what God desires; the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart, oh God, thou will not despise. Many of us are struggling with the issue of brokenness, we are not broken, that is why things easily upset us, we are easily provoked and I am speaking to myself.
I had to engage the parish Pastor during the course of the week, instead of him helping me, he threw me Bible passages, I didn’t want to read it at first, I must confess, (the ego in me), but in preparing for this message I realized, if we are broken, it will not be difficult for us, God will help us in Jesus name.
Our father in the Lord talks to us a lot about gratitude; you know a grateful heart – you know what gratitude means, it means you are acknowledging that somebody did this for you, you won’t get pumped up, God will help us in Jesus name. You need to surround yourself with people who will not feed your ego, be deliberate with the company you keep.
And in summary, the last remedy, if you do this one, it works across – love, 1st Corinthians 13: 4 says love does not vaunt itself, love is not puffed up, if you are not puffed up, you will tame your ego, I pray that God will help us in Jesus name.
For some of us here, our ego has not allowed us to yield to working for the Kingdom; I am too big to come and clean the church, I am too big to arrange chairs, ha ha, don’t you know my profile? I sat in Redeemed for many years, more than 10 years, worker, what do you mean by that? When God was going to deal with me, it was not even in a setting where they were multiple workers, I was the only one, if I didn’t come to church, chairs will not be arranged in that location, God humbled me, God brought me down; if you think it’s by my intellect or whatever that I chose to serve God, far from it, God dealt with me, may God deal with you, many of you are not saying amen but God knows how to handle you.
Learn to be of service to the kingdom, and some of us here, our ego says logic, I can accomplish this if I do this if I do that; many of you believe that you are the master of your life. Yesterday, somebody shared something on WhatsApp with me and I shared it with a number of people; big powerful people who edged God out of their lives, at their death beds, they regretted edging God out, I mean the most powerful people, Napoleon Bonaparte, I’m not talking about leaders of one country, I’m talking about people who controlled continents; Vaultier, these are names that people study and revere; at their death beds, they regretted, their ego got the best out of them. I pray that God will help us, God will touch us.
So if you are here this morning, you know you have been playing church, you know you have been saying I am in control, I have planned it out, my investment accounts are these, I have people who I can rely on, I really don’t need to go into this relationship with Jesus, please I beg you, this is that time to surrender to Jesus, He’s inviting you, He’s telling you come home, He wants you, because of you, He went to the cross, He needs you, He wants you.
So if you are here, you have not surrendered to Jesus and you want to give your life a fresh start, this is the time for you to surrender to Him.
[Altar call]
I want us take a few prayers; I want us to cry unto God and say Father, please show me mercy for all my egocentric conduct and tendencies, show me mercy, Lord, Your mercy I need Lord, show me mercy in the mighty name of Jesus.
Next, we’ll cry unto God and say, as I have been fearfully and wonderfully made, please heal me of all my insecurities, heal me of all my fears in the name of Jesus, heal me Lord, in Jesus mighty name.
Next we’ll cry and say Father, please deliver me from the spirit of controlling and manipulating others. Brethren cry to God that God will deliver you from the spirit of controlling and manipulating others in the name of Jesus.
Next I want us to cry unto God and say Father, the grace to love others as You have commanded me, please release upon me in the name of Jesus, in Jesus mighty name.
And our final prayer point we’ll take from Jeremiah 9: 23 & 24, I want us to pray this in understanding, so we’ll cry to God and say Father, please help me not to glory in the things You have blessed me with, Father, please help me not to glory in the things You have helped me with, in Jesus name we prayed.
Thank You Jesus,

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Your destiny is at the mercy of your tongue.
In one of services one day, by revelation, I spoke prophetically about someone who was traveling to a far eastern country, precisely China. I said that the Lord would take the person there and bring them back safely.
A woman came out and said “Sir, I am the one you were talking about. I’m traveling to China this Friday.”
Then I said to her, “Go and return safely. See you when you come back.”
So, she travelled and went to China. But on her way back, between China and Dubai, in the course of the flight, about thirty-five thousand feet above sea level, the aircraft’s engine failed. The aircraft dropped in altitude by ten thousand feet within five minutes. It was dropping like a stone.
At this point the pilot announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for a crash.”
Then immediately, passengers started screaming and shouting. In a lamenting voice, someone beside her said, “Is this how we are going to die?”
But this woman, the member of our church who earlier received the prophecy, “Go and return safely. See you when you come back”, stood up and said, “If you are about to die, I am not about to die. My pastor told me, ‘See you when you come back. And he will see me when I get back’”.
After the declaration she began to pray in the language of the Holy Ghost.
All of a sudden, within five minutes, the aircraft gained altitude and stabilised.
Then the pilot announced again, “I don’t know what happened, but everything is in order now.”
Beloved, that was the impact of the tongue. You can live by your words and you can die by your words. But death is not your portion in Jesus’ Name. Your destiny is at the mercy of your tongue.
Remember this: Your destiny is at the mercy of your tongue.

A little over a year ago, one of our dear sisters and leaders in church was pregnant with a baby after a long wait. It was such big news to us. And she had to go abroad for her delivery due to the sensitive nature of the pregnancy.
She put to bed but a fierce battle began. We kind of sensed it was going to be tough so we started praying. She began feeling some unexplainable pain. The medical team made up of some of the very best in the UK, could not figure out the cause of the pain. They deployed some of the best equipment and gadgets, medication but could not address this pain. Her organs began to shut down. We organised a 24 hours prayer watch in church over zoom and reached out to a few minister friends to join with us in prayer. But it just won’t shift. At a point, this medical team finally admitted they had done their very best and knew nothing else to do. At this point, I knew it had to be GOD and GOD alone. Then I had a moment of light! The word came. “LET THERE BE LIGHT” – I knew by the Spirit that was the key. Then we changed our prayer point and just called out for the light of God to shine and expose the darkness. A few hours later, the doctors decided to go in just one more time. But this time, Lo and behold, they found hiding somewhere in her stomach area, in our sister’s words “a blood clot measuring about a litre” – something their machines could not locate. This was clearly the work of darkness. But then the light shone and darkness could not hide.
”And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. “
John 1:5 NKJV
Can I pray for someone reading this now, every work of darkness in your life right now is exposed by the LIGHT OF GOD’S WORD. I declare, LET THERE BE LIGHT! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
