Prayer points against enemies of progress

Tragedy struck in Ugbaike, Igbo-Eze North LGA, Enugu State, when a young man Mr. Chikwado Eze, who had just got a visa to travel abroad, sought his father’s blessings. His father suggested consulting a native doctor for fortification rituals.

The native doctor, Onuwa, prescribed burying Chikwado alive for one hour, thirty minutes. After which they exhumed him, to find out Chikwado had passed on.

Immediately Police came and arrested his father, Uwakwe, and the native doctor.

This heart breaking incident highlights the dangers of harmful traditional practices and the importance of seeking guidance from credible sources.

Prayer Points Jesus’ Death, Resurrection, and Justification for Our Salvation

Resurrection Of Jesus Christ From Death Brought Us Justification

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (2 Corinthians 5:21)

The Bible says in Romans 4:25 that Jesus Christ was delivered for our offences, that is, He died on account of our sins, and was raised back to life for our justification. 1 Timothy 3:16 says He was justified in the Spirit. Why did He have to be justified in the Spirit? The reason is that He was made sin for us, as read in our opening scripture. He became the very embodiment of sin.

This is truly astounding because the Bible doesn’t merely say that Jesus was made a sinner or a sin offering but that He was made sin. This means the very character and nature of sin were placed on Jesus. He became the very embodiment of what we were; our nature of sin was what He became.

Until you understand this, you won’t understand the life of the new creation and how indeed, we became the righteousness of God in Christ. Think about it: The one who knew no sin, who was never involved in sin; He never spoke an unkind word or said the wrong thing; that sinless one was made sin for us, so that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. Wow!

After taking on our nature, and the punishment for our sin, He was raised from the dead with a new life. And according to the Bible, we were raised together with Him (Ephesians 2:6). When He was raised back to life, God said, “…Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee” (Psalm 2:7, Acts 13:33). This is crucial because it marked when Jesus was born again; He was born again when God raised Him from the dead.

By His resurrection, therefore, we were also resurrected, because we were in Him. His was a vital resurrection, and ours was a legal one. But the moment you received Jesus Christ as Lord, this legal resurrection became a vital experience in your spirit. You were immediately brought out of the domain of darkness and catapulted into the Kingdom of God’s Love-Son, with legal righteousness; you were justified. His resurrection brought us justification: “Who was betrayed and put to death because of our misdeeds and was raised to secure our justification (our acquittal), [making our account balance and absolving us from all guilt before God]” (Romans 4:25 AMPC). Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Blessed Father, I rejoice, knowing that the Lord Jesus was raised for my justification—my acquittal. Now I’ve been declared not guilty, and made righteous in Christ Jesus. I live with the consciousness of my divine nature, celebrating my sin-free life in Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Prayer Points:

Thank You, Dear Jesus Christ, for becoming sin for me, making me righteous in God’s sight.

(2 Corinthians 5:21)

Dear Lord Jesus Christ! Help me understand the depth of Your love and sacrifice for me! Amen.

(Romans 5:8)

I receive Your justification and righteousness, Lord Jesus Christ! Amen.

(Romans 4:25)

Thank You Lord Jesus Christ for raising me together with You, giving me new life! Amen.

(Ephesians 2:6)

I declare my identification with Your resurrection, Lord Jesus Christ! Amen.

(Romans 6:4-5)

Dear Lord Jesus Christ! Help me walk in the reality of my new creation in You! Amen.

(2 Corinthians 5:17)

Lord Jesus Christ! Fill me with gratitude for Your substitutionary atonement! Amen.

(1 Peter 3:18)

Lord Jesus Christ! Use me to share Your message of redemption and justification! Amen.

Prayer Points Sanctification: The Process of Becoming Holy

The Goal of Christ’s Reconciliation

Text: Colossians 1:19-23

KEY VERSE: “And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight” (COLOSSIANS 1:21, 22).

In the forests of northern Europe and Asia lives a little animal called the ermine, known for his snow-white fur in winter. He instinctively protects his white coat against anything that would soil it. Fur hunters take advantage of this unusual trait of the ermine. They do not set a snare to catch him, but instead they find his home, which is usually a cleft in a rock or a hollow in an old tree. They smear the entrance and interior with grime. Then the hunters set their dogs loose to find and chase the ermine. The frightened animal flees toward home but does not enter because of the filth. Rather than soil his white coat, he is trapped by the dogs and captured while preserving his purity. For the ermine, purity is more precious than life.

Paul emphasised the key role Christ played in the reconciliation of mankind to God. As our High Priest, He offered Himself and shed His blood for our redemption. His goal is to present us holy, spotless and unblameable in God’s sight. This whole plan is hinged on our continuing in the faith, grounded, and to ensure we have hope of eternal life.

Sanctification is a doctrine taught and elaborated upon in Scriptures. It is a definite Christian experience that sets us apart from the world. With inbred sin removed, we love God supremely and become more tied with His church and purpose. Inner struggles of the depraved nature are removed; inner peace reigns, and we serve the Lord in holiness with joy and fulfilment.

Church attendance is good, but not enough to possess the holiness experience. We must pray in faith and thirst for it until we receive the fulfilment of the promise.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: We need grace, prayer and watchfulness to be preserved in holiness.

Key Takeaways:

1. Sanctification is essential for a deepened relationship with God.

2. Christ’s sacrifice is the basis for our redemption and sanctification.

3. Faith, prayer, and thirsting for holiness are necessary for this experience.

4. Church attendance alone is insufficient; inner transformation is required.

Application:

1. Seek a deeper understanding of sanctification.

2. Pray for the experience of holiness.

3. Surrender to God’s transformative power.

4. Live a life separated from sin and dedicated to God’s purpose.

Prayer Points:

1. Lord, create in me a desire for purity and holiness.

2. Help me to separate myself from sin and the world.

3. Purify my heart and mind through Your sanctifying power.

4. Give me the strength to persevere in faith and seek Your holiness.

5. Fill me with inner peace and joy as I serve You.

6. Help me to love You supremely and align with Your purpose.

7. Remove inbred sin and struggles of my depraved nature.

8. Present me holy, spotless, and blameless in Your sight, through Christ Jesus My Lord and Personal Saviour! Amen.

Trusting God’s Guidance

Don’t Try To Understand Everything

Relax my dear. Don’t stress. God is directing your steps. He knew your last day on earth before you were born. He is the beginning and the end. Trust Him. Trust the journey. This is my 2024 scripture…

Proverb 20:24 NLT – The Lord directs our steps, so why try to understand everything along the way?

We don’t know the future. But we know who holds our future. He directs our lives. The Bible says, “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives (Ps 37:23).”

This doesn’t mean we live in ignorance. We should plan but focus on the present. We should not stress about the future. Tomorrow belongs to God. In any case, worry does not fix any problem.

And there are certain things we will never understand. The secret things belong to God (Deuteronomy 29:29). Do what you have to. Make the most of every opportunity. But live one day at a time. God is in control.

Prayer Points:

1. Dear Lord, please help me trust Your guidance and direction for my life! Amen.

2. Dear Heavenly father! Please give me peace in the midst of uncertainty, to Your glory alone in Christ Jesus! Amen.

3. O Lord! My GOD! Help me focus on the present and not stress about the future, in Jesus Christ mighty name I pray! Amen.

4. O Lord My GOD! May Your will be done in my life through Jesus Christ My Lord And Saviour! Amen.

5. Thank You Heavenly Father for holding my future in Your hands! Amen.

Bible Verses:

  1. Psalm 37:23 (NLT) – “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”
  2. Deuteronomy 29:29 (NLT) – “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever.”
  3. Matthew 6:34 (NLT) – “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

Reflection:

  1. God is in control of our lives.
  2. We don’t need to understand everything; just trust Him.
  3. Plan, but focus on the present.
  4. Tomorrow belongs to God.
  5. Worry doesn’t fix problems; trust does.

Inspirational Quote:

“God’s got the master plan; trust the journey, not your understanding.”

Declaration:

“I trust God’s guidance and direction. He holds my future, and I will live one day at a time, free from worry and stress.”

May this devotional bring peace and trust in God’s guidance, through Christ Jesus Our Lord and personal Saviour! Amen.

May God’s peace and guidance be with you always! Amen.

Remember, God holds your future, and His plans are for your good.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT) – “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

The Power of God’s Word: Unpacking the Truth

No Contradictions In The Word of God

1 Peter 1:25 (NLT), “But the word of the Lord remains forever. And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.”

God’s Word is truth, offering overwhelming victory to believers who diligently study and apply its wisdom. However, many are too caught up in life’s affairs to prioritize Scripture, relying on occasional teachings from the pulpit or social media. This poses a danger when false teachings contradict God’s Word, leading some to question its authority.

A popular misconception arises from Romans 3:28 and James 2:24, which seem to contradict each other. Romans 3:28 states that justification comes through faith, while James 2:24 emphasizes the importance of works in justification. However, these verses complement each other. Faith alone saves us, but a life of faith is not isolated from good works and obedience.

Paul teaches that our sinful nature died with Jesus (Romans 6:2, 6). Now, we choose to live by the Holy Spirit, not the flesh (Romans 8:13-14). Our recreated spirits, empowered by God, enable us to resist sin and live for Him.

Don’t be deceived by false claims that the Word contradicts itself. Hold fast to God’s truth, relying on the Holy Spirit’s guidance and power.

Prayer Points:

1. Ask for a deeper understanding of God’s Word.

2. Pray for discernment to distinguish truth from false teachings.

3. Seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance in living a righteous life.

4. Request strength to resist sin and obey God’s commands.

5. Pray for a hunger to study and apply Scripture.

Bible Verses:

1. Romans 3:28

2. James 2:24

3. Romans 6:2, 6

4. Romans 8:13-14

5. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

6. Psalm 119:105

7. Hebrews 4:12

8. Matthew 7:24-25

Declaration and Confession:

“I stand on the authority of God’s Word, trusting in its truth and guidance. By the Holy Spirit’s power, I choose to live a life of faith, obedience, and righteousness through Christ Jesus My Lord and Personal Saviour! Amen.”

May God’s Word be a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path in Jesus Christ mighty name! Amen. May you continue to grow in faith, wisdom, and obedience to His truth through Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour! Amen.

Hymn 780: There Is A Land Of Pure Delight

Verse 1

There is a land of pure delight

Where saints immortal reign,

Infinite day excludes the night,

And pleasures banish pain.

We’re feeding on the living Bread,

We’re drinking at the fountain head;

And who-so drinketh, Jesus said,

Shall never, never thirst again.

Chorus

What! never thirst again?

No, never thirst again!

What! never thirst again?

No, never thirst again!

Verse 2

There everlasting spring abides,

And never withering flowers;

Death, like a narrow sea, divides

His heavenly land from ours.

Verse 3

O could we make our doubts remove

Those gloomy thoughts that rise,

And see the Canaan that we love

With unbeclouded eyes.

Verse 4

Could we but climb where Moses stood

And view the landscape o’er

Not Jordan’s stream, nor death’s cold flood,

Should fright us from the shore.

Chorus

And who-so drinketh, Jesus said,

Shall never, never thirst again!

Obedience and Patience in Following God’s Plan

TOTAL OBEDIENCE.

TEXT: I Samuel 13:5-23

[5]Then the Philistines gathered together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the seashore in multitude. And they came up and encamped in Michmash, to the east of Beth Aven.

[6]When the men of Israel saw that they were in danger (for the people were distressed), then the people hid in caves, in thickets, in rocks, in holes, and in pits.

[7]And some of the Hebrews crossed over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead. As for Saul, he was still in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.

[8]Then he waited seven days, according to the time set by Samuel. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him.

[9]So Saul said, “Bring a burnt offering and peace offerings here to me.” And he offered the burnt offering.

[10]Now it happened, as soon as he had finished presenting the burnt offering, that Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might greet him.

[11]And Samuel said, “What have you done?” Saul said, “When I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you did not come within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered together at Michmash,

[12] Then I said, ‘The Philistines will now come down on me at Gilgal, and I have not made supplication to the Lord.’ Therefore I felt compelled, and offered a burnt offering.”

[13]And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you. For now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.

[14]But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”

[15]Then Samuel arose and went up from Gilgal to Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people present with him, about six hundred men. No Weapons for the Army

[16]Saul, Jonathan his son, and the people present with them remained in Gibeah of Benjamin. But the Philistines encamped in Michmash.

[17]Then raiders came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies. One company turned onto the road to Ophrah, to the land of Shual,

[18]another company turned to the road to Beth Horon, and another company turned to the road of the border that overlooks the Valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.

[19]Now there was no blacksmith to be found throughout all the land of Israel, for the Philistines said, “Lest the Hebrews make swords or spears.”

[20]But all the Israelites would go down to the Philistines to sharpen each man’s plowshare, his mattock, his ax, and his sickle;

[21]and the charge for a sharpening was a pim for the plowshares, the mattocks, the forks, and the axes, and to set the points of the goads.

[22]So it came about, on the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people who were with Saul and Jonathan. But they were found with Saul and Jonathan his son.

[23]And the garrison of the Philistines went out to the pass of Michmash.

STUDY:

In today’s passage, Saul and his army were waiting for Samuel to arrive to offer a sacrifice before going to war. Samuel had not yet come, and the soldiers were preparing to flee rather than fight the Philistines. Growing impatient, Saul chose to offer a sacrifice on his own. Just as Saul finished the sacrifice, Samuel arrived and said, “You have done a foolish thing” (1 Samuel 13:13). Why was offering a sacrifice foolish? Because Saul had disobeyed a direct command from the prophet Samuel given in 1 Samuel 10:8. Many valuable lessons can be learnt from Saul’s situation. God desires our obedience, while patience is often needed to fully follow God’s Word and there are negative consequences when we choose our own way instead of God’s. As youths of today, part of being obedient is showing respect for the word of God and your parents. Don’t ignore your leaders like Saul ignored Samuel. As we learn to obey, we learn to be wise in making our decisions in life. As we learn to obey, we learn to open up our eyes and ears to God’s plan for us.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

Obedience is the first step in living a Christian life.

PRAYER:

Dear God, please give me a humble heart to yield to your instructions at all times, so that I can prosper in Christ Jesus! Amen.

Prayer Points:

  1. Pray for obedience to God’s Word.
  2. Ask for patience to wait on God’s timing.
  3. Seek wisdom in decision-making.
  4. Pray for respect for authority and leaders.

Insight:

Saul’s impatience and disobedience led to negative consequences, highlighting the importance of following God’s commands and respecting spiritual authority.

Takeaways:

  1. Obedience is crucial in following God’s plan.
  2. Patience is necessary to wait on God’s timing.
  3. Disobedience leads to negative consequences.
  4. Respect for authority is vital.

Key Principles:

  1. Obedience to God’s Word (1 Samuel 10:8)
  2. Patience in waiting on God (Psalm 27:14)

Application:

  1. Obey God’s Word even when it’s challenging.
  2. Practice patience in difficult situations.
  3. Show respect for parents, leaders, and spiritual authorities.

Reflection:

Consider times when you disobeyed or impatiently took matters into your own hands. What were the consequences?

Reflection Questions:

  1. What areas do I need to improve in obedience?
  2. How can I practice patience in my life?
  3. Who are the authorities God has placed in my life?

Bible Verses:

  1. 1 Samuel 10:8
  2. 1 Samuel 13:13
  3. Psalm 27:14
  4. Hebrews 13:17

May God bless you with wisdom, obedience, and patience as you follow His plan for your life! Amen.

May God’s peace and guidance be with you always! Amen.

Shalom!

Prayer Points Ruling and Reigning through Faith and Authority

TAKING AUTHORITY OVER THE ENEMY.

 TEXT: I Samuel 13:1-4

[1]Saul reigned one year; and when he had reigned two years over Israel,

[2]Saul chose for himself three thousand men of Israel. Two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in the mountains of Bethel, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin. The rest of the people he sent away, every man to his tent.

[3]And Jonathan attacked the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it. Then Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, “Let the Hebrews hear!”

[4]Now all Israel heard it said that Saul had attacked a garrison of the Philistines, and that Israel had also become an abomination to the Philistines. And the people were called together to Saul at Gilgal.

 STUDY:

Saul’s choice of three thousand men was the first “regular” army for Israel. Previously Israel only had a militia that assembled in times of national threat. Now for the first time, Israel had a professional army. However, Jonathan’s attack on the garrison of the Philistines justifies him as a remarkable military leader. He repeatedly demonstrated the ability to lead a successful attack. Yet this attack merely woke the Philistines. It seems that, no matter where you turn in the Old Testament, Israel is fighting the Philistines. But it was during the time of the Exodus that the Lord promised that the land of Israel would include the territory of the Philistines (Exodus 23:31); this promise meant that some kind of conflict would have to take place for Israel to displace the Philistines and begin to rule and reign over all circumstances. God’s plan is for you to rule and reign over circumstances, poverty, sickness, and everything else that would hinder you from stepping into God’s promise (Romans 5:17). You reign because you have the authority in the Name of Jesus. You are challenged today to use your authority over the enemy. Do it over your own life and family, taking authority over sickness, lack, fear, confusion, or demonic influences.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Prayer Points Ruling and Reigning through Faith and Authority:

  1. Lord, in your name I take authority over situations and lands, in the name of Jesus.
  • Pray for God’s guidance and protection in times of conflict.
  • Ask for wisdom to lead and reign over life’s circumstances.
  • Declare victory over poverty, sickness, fear, confusion, and demonic influences.
  • Pray for the authority to use Jesus’ name.

Insight into Ruling and Reigning through Faith and Authority:

The story of Saul and Jonathan’s battles with the Philistines illustrates God’s promise to give Israel the land and the importance of faith and authority in overcoming challenges.

Takeaways from Ruling and Reigning through Faith and Authority:

  1. God has promised to give believers authority over all circumstances.
  2. Faith and authority are crucial in overcoming life challenges.
  3. Believers must take action to reign over their lives and families.

Key Principles of Ruling and Reigning through Faith and Authority:

  1. Faith in God’s promises (Exodus 23:31)
  2. Authority in Jesus’ name (Romans 5:17)
  3. Courage and leadership (Jonathan’s attack)

Application of Ruling and Reigning through Faith and Authority:

  1. Identify areas where you need to take authority (sickness, lack, fear).
  2. Use prayer and faith to overcome challenges.
  3. Lead your family and community with courage and wisdom.

Reflection:

Consider times when you felt powerless or overwhelmed. How can you apply faith and authority to regain control?

Reflection Questions:

  1. What promises has God made to me?
  2. Where do I need to exercise authority in my life?
  3. How can I lead others with courage and wisdom?

Bible Verses:

  1. Exodus 23:31
  2. Romans 5:17
  3. 1 Samuel 13-14 (Saul and Jonathan’s battles)

Declaration and Confession:

“I have authority in Jesus Christ name to reign over my life, family, and circumstances. I trust God’s promises and will lead with courage and wisdom! Amen.”
