James 5:16-18.

When you read through the Bible, there are prayers which are answered and there are those which remain unanswered (James 4:3). Our spiritual condition determines God’s response to us in prayer (Psalm 66:18; Proverbs 15:8). Righteousness, being in right standing with God, is a prerequisite for answered prayers. However, the only problem which prevents righteousness is the sin issue (Isaiah 59: 1-2: Habakkuk 1: 13). So, the first prayer God wants to hear from a human being is a prayer asking for forgiveness. This is because sin causes a separation between man and God. Sin disqualifies us from an active and effective relationship with God (Romans 3:23).
