TEXT: James 1: 1-16.
INTRODUCTION:
Temptation is one of the experiences a child of God will encounter. No one is above temptation but one can have victory over it. Being tempted is not sin but yielding to temptation is sin.
WHAT IS TEMPTATION?
Temptation is an enticement to do evil or anything contrary to the will of God. It is a strong persuasion to do something wrong. Devil is the source of all temptations. Matt 4: 1. Trial is different from temptation. Trial is meant to build up, while temptations pull us down.
Satan uses subtle and divers methods to tempt Christians.
(i) Enticement. Prov 1: 10; Gen 39: 7.
(ii) Evil counsel. Job 2: 9-10; Matt 16: 22-23.
(iii)The love of the world (Worldliness). 1 Jn 2: 14-16.
(iv)Greed. 1 Tim 6: 9-10.
