Trying Times And Patience
Opening Prayer: Father, please send me needed interventions in this trying period and teach how to be patient and wait for your promises.
Memory Verse: “Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;” – Romans 12:12 (KJV)
Bible Text: James 1:2-4 (KJV)
Lesson Introduction: Trying times are periods of difficulty or hardship, but a Christian should remain unperturbed because there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
Lesson Outline One: What Are Trying Times?
Trying times are described as difficult situations or hardship, times of troubles and struggles, times that make someone trigger “suicide thought” because of lack of support, times of test of loyalty to divinity or God’s agenda, times of waiting for God’s intervention, time of secret weeping, test of strength, patience and endurance, time of ‘no help received’ and situation getting worse and complicated, time of closed heaven, all efforts become fruitless, time of abandonment and inflow of undesirable thoughts, and time of seeking God’s face for immediate intervention and resolution.
Psalm 23:4 – “Even though I walk through the darkest valley…”
Romans 5:3-4 – “We also glory in our sufferings…”
James 1:2-4 – “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, when you face trials…”
2 Corinthians 4:8-9 – “We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed…”
Psalm 34:17-18 – “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted…”
Lesson Outline Two: Learn To Be Patient
To be patient means to have the ability to wait without becoming upset or angry, exercising self-control, refraining from complaining, controlling your emotions and intentions, and being calm and relying on divine inputs.
Psalm 37:7 – “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him…”
Galatians 6:9 – “Let us not become weary in doing good…”
James 5:7-8 – “Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming…”
Proverbs 14:29 – “Whoever is patient has great understanding…”
Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength…”
Why Do You Need Patience?
Impatience causes stress, unresolved stress affects your well-being, impatience may cause one to take wrong and deadly decisions, and impatience incurs curses or God’s anger.
Proverbs 14:17 – “A quick-tempered person does foolish things…”
Psalm 106:13-15 – “They rushed into sin; they did not wait for his counsel…”
Matthew 26:40-41 – “Could you not keep watch for one hour?”
1 Samuel 13:11-12 – “I forced myself to offer the burnt offering.”
Summary: In waiting on God for His intervention, the solution is always lasting and yielding, no matter the situation, brethren Wait till God acts.
Psalm 27:14 – “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart…”
Isaiah 49:23 – “Those who hope in me will not be disappointed.”
Romans 8:28 – “And we know that in all things God works for the good…”
Psalm 130:5-6 – “I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits…”
Conclusion: Believers should learn to wait on God during trying times.
