MESSAGE

The tongue is one of the organs of our body. We use our tongue for tasting and also for speaking.

We could use our mouth to say positive words that could make people happy.

At times also, when we are upset and angry about something or a person, we might at that time say negative words. .

In Numbers 12:1, Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the  Ethiopian woman whom he had married. They were upset with Moses.  God heard their complaints.  The Lord then called Moses, Aaron and Miriam. God was not happy that Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses.

Miriam then became leprous. But God had mercy on her and she was healed afterwards.

Also, in the story of Nabal, Abigail and David, in 1 Samuel 25: 2-38, Nabal was a very rich man. He had a wife called Abigail.

 David sent ten of his young men to Nabal to greet him, to explain to him that Nabal’s shephard were not hurt when they were with David and his men. David, through his servants then requested Nabal to give him and his servants anything that comes to his hand.

David’s servant spoke to Nabal all that David had told them. Nabal responded back harshly.

When David’s men returned and told David Nabal’s response, David told his men to grind on their swords. David also girded on his sword.  He was going to fight (against) Nabal.

Abigail (Nabal’s wife) was told how her husband reviled David’s men. She was told to consider what she would do has harm was determined against Nabal and his  household.

Abigail went ahead and begged David. David rescinded on his plan to fight Nabal. Abigail then went to Nabal.He was holding a feast in his house. Nabal’s heart was merry within him because he was very drunk. Abigail told him nothing, little or much, until morning light.

A lesson there is that Abigail restrained from probably reprimanding Nabal for his response to David’s servants. She could have as well told her husband how she helped save his life while he was getting himself drunk. She told him nothing. We can learn from here that we need to bridle our tongue. We can save ourselves a whole lot doing that (James 3: 8-10)

In the morning, when the wine had gone from Nabal, his wife then spoke to him. His heart died within him. After about ten days, the Lord struck Nabal and he died.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21a). The lesson for us today is to by the help of the Holy spirit bridle our tongue.

The grace to use our tongues positively,  the Almighty God shall grant unto us in Jesus name. Amen.

2. Father, please help us to control our tongues.

ACCESSING GOD’S HELP

PSALMS 121:1 – 8

God’s help is needed to live, not to just survive. Help can be defined as giving or providing what is necessary to accomplish a task or satisfy a need. It can also be said to be a means of contributing strength or rendering assistance. It is giving assistance to someone in need. The ultimate and primary source of help is God. The Bible makes us to understand in Psalms 46:1 that God is our ever-present help.

God being your help can mean a lot of things. It could mean God our strength (Psalms 18:1) because it is His strength that can provide the help we need. It also means God our partner. A partner is someone we can readily go to for assistance or advice on what to do. God is all knowing, He is the best partner we can ever have. Therefore, we are to solely depend on God.

Getting help from God guarantees us victory because we conquer the problem that seemed difficult to overcome (Psalms 118:7). When we depend on God for help, we have peace of mind because the fear of drowning in the problem will be taken away (Psalms 34:4). Getting God’s help increases our trust, dependence and confidence in Him as our source. When we get faced with a more difficult problem, we readily go to our source of help knowing that victory is assured.

God’s help is a medium of salvation for men through our testimonies. People get curious about the impossible made possible which soon leads them to also connect to our source of help (God).

The bible tells us in Matthew 7:7 to ask and we shall receive. God’s help can be gotten solely by prayer (Philippians 4:6). 2 Thessalonians 1:11 shows that we always pray to Him and we always ask for help which means every time we need His help we are to pray. Praying every time is equivalent to asking for help since it shows our total dependency on God.

Nothing qualifies us for God’s help but grace. Just like salvation is by grace, getting help is also by grace (Ephesians 2:8). 2 Corinthians 12:9a says,

“And he said unto me, my grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness”

Meaning we asking for grace shows we know that we have weaknesses and this is a sign of humility which God loves so much. By doing this, we show others the strength of Christ.

Psalms 46:1 says,

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”.

Mark 13:31 says,

“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away”.

The above scriptures give us the assurance that all things will pass away but His Word will not, so we can be sure that Psalms 46:1 will be fulfilled. All we just need to do is to ask. Those who trust on the Lord will be saved (Joel 2:32)

PRAYERS

1. Thank God for His faithfulness.

2. Father please forgive me of my shortcomings.

3. Lord help me to access help from you in time of need in Jesus Name. Amen.

4. Please Father don’t abandon me at the present time. Preserve me and my household through Christ Jesus Our Lord and Saviour! Amen! –Psalms 121:8

5. Father send help to me, my family, Nigeria etc because our help comes from You alone. Amen.

I Have Set The Lord Always Before Me; Because He Is At My Right Hand, I Shall Not Be Shaken.

I Have Set The Lord Always Before Me; Because He Is At My Right Hand, I Shall Not Be Shaken.

Psalm 16:8

I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

 CHORUSES

Take your place Lord

I am your vessel Lord and nothing more

When you’re done please take the glory, I am satisfied just to see you gloried

Thanks Thanks we give you thanks for all you have done, we are so blessed, our souls has found rest oh Lord we give you thanks

This Psalm  encourages us to be ‘resolved whatever comes our way, to keep the Lord always before us; and in doing that, we will find strength in the Lord’.

The verse that we consider is made up of two parts. First, the psalmist expresses a firm resolve. He says, “I have set the Lord always before me.” To set the Lord before us means to have a deliberate and conscious resolve to have God, front and center, in all of our lives and in all of our  thinking, so that the thought of God captivates all of our senses and all our  activity and focus in life. God will help us to do this always, in every situation, whatever comes our way, in every pleasure, in every trouble. Nothing in our  lives should  be a distraction, to take our thoughts and our mind and our eye of faith away from God. In every responsibility, in every relationship, in every temptation, in every difficulty, even in the prospect of death, we will not be distracted from focusing on God.

In the second part of the verse, the psalmist speaks of the resulting strength: “because he is at my right hand,” he says, “I shall not be moved.” The psalmist wants us to be in a solid position. We should be strong. We should  not waver or doubt, and that is because we  know that the Lord God, Jehovah, the faithful, unchanging covenant God, is at our right hand and is our helper.

This morning we will be looking at this verse from the perspective of a believer looking up to God gives us hope that goes beyond whatever life may throw at us. Hebrews 12 says that, for the joy that was set before Him, He endured the cross. In the last verse of Psalm 16, “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore

As believers, we confess again that we  have set the Lord always before us.” That is a resolve, a resolution, that we make as believers. We do this, first of all, intentionally. It is a personal determination not to turn our eyes from God. It is a personal determination to turn our eyes from the things of this earth to God.

 There were believers who were afraid, or angry, who stole, who killed, who committed adultery, who in pride were lifted up, who served other gods, who broke the Sabbath day, who offered false worship, and on and on—people who did this because they did not set the Lord before them. Just think of David. He saw Bathsheba. He took his eyes off God and he looked on her. Later he confesses, in Psalm 51, “Against thee, thee only, have I sinned.” That sin started when he did not set the Lord before him.

Then, on the other side of it, we have an example of Elijah, one who did set the Lord before him. In I Kings 17:1, Elijah stands before Ahab and he says this: “As the Lord God of Israel liveth before whom I stand, there shall be no dew nor rain these years but according to my word.” It was because he lived before the Lord that he had the confidence to stand in the presence of the wicked king Ahab and speak this word of judgment.

And, again, in Scripture there are many examples of this. Just think of what Hebrews 11 says of those who “saw him who was invisible,” God. Hebrews 11:33-38 says this: That they, seeing Him who was invisible, “subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens,” and so on. They had this firm resolve to set the Lord before them.

Do You And I  Have That Firm Resolve?

Then, in the second place, this resolution is something that we do constantly as believers. “I have set the Lord always before me.

Thank You Jesus.

Psalms_18-3

How I love you, Lord!
You are my defender.

2 The Lord is my protector;
he is my strong fortress.
My God is my protection,
and with him I am safe.
He protects me like a shield;
he defends me and keeps me safe.

3 I call to the Lord,
and he saves me from my enemies.
Praise the Lord!

4 The danger of death was all around me;
the waves of destruction rolled over me.

5 The danger of death was around me,
and the grave set its trap for me.

6 In my trouble I called to the Lord;
I called to my God for help.
In his temple he heard my voice;
he listened to my cry for help.

7 Then the earth trembled and shook;
the foundations of the mountains rocked and quivered,

Psalm 12.Prayer for Help

Psalms_12-5

Help us, Lord!
There is not a good person left;
honest people can no longer be found.

2 All of them lie to one another;
they deceive each other with flattery.

3 Silence those flattering tongues, O Lord!
Close those boastful mouths that say,

4 “With our words we get what we want.
We will say what we wish,
and no one can stop us.”

5 “But now I will come,” says the Lord,
“because the needy are oppressed
and the persecuted groan in pain.

I will give them the security they long for.”

6 The promises of the Lord can be trusted;
they are as genuine as silver
refined seven times in the furnace.

7-8 The wicked are everywhere,
and everyone praises what is evil.
Keep us always safe, O Lord,
and preserve us from such people.

Why do the nations plan rebellion?
