The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.”

Psalm 14:1

READ:Luke 12:16-21

It seems to me rather contradictory that Jesus, who was so gentle at times (Matt. 19:13-15), would call some people fools. Yet, as recorded in the Gospels a number of times, our Lord used this derogatory term to describe those He spoke about—especially the Pharisees (see Matt. 23:17-19; Luke 11:39-40).

Jesus also used the word fool in a parable after warning a man about coveting (Luke 12:13-21). What made him foolish is not the fact that he built bigger barns to store his abundant harvest (vv.16-18). It would have been more foolish of him to leave it out in the fields where inclement weather would spoil it. Nor was he foolish because of his thought that this unexpected windfall was enough to last him a long time (v.19). After all, we…

You shall not murder

Prayer's avatarPrayer Haven

The Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ

You shall not murder.
Exodus 20:13

Speaking Life

Most people would never think of breaking this commandment by murdering someone.

In fact it’s easy to skip right over this commandment, thinking, “Well I wouldn’t do that, so, moving right along….”

Be careful! Jesus teaches us in Matthew 5:21-22 that unjust anger and refusing to forgive are acts of murder that we commit in our hearts. He says, “Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment. But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment.”

How often have we “killed” one another by holding grudges, hatred and anger over them? How often have we worked to secretly tear down others with our words and our gossip, speaking death over their lives and over their works?

I challenge you to search your heart for signs that…

Bound in God‘s Will

They laid their hands on Him and took Him.

Mark 14:46, NKJV

The soldiers and officials who had come to the Garden of Gethsemane to arrest Jesus seized Him roughly, punching and manhandling Him as they bound Him. They bound the hands of the Son of God! The hands of the Creator! Hands that had lifted in authority and calmed the storm at sea. Hands that had gathered little children on His knee.

Have you ever felt bound . . .

in a marriage where the love has run out?

in a small home with small children?

in a physical body wracked with pain?

Are you struggling with your bindings? Do you find that the more you fight against them, the more pain you inflict on yourself, so that you are miserable in your confinement? Sometimes binding is in the will of God…

The sinless One took on the face of a sinner so that we sinners could take on the face of a saint

Though his back was ribboned with wounds, the soldiers loaded the crossbeam on Jesus’ shoulders and marched him to the Place of a Skull and executed him.

Jesus was beaten with whips and handed over to the soldiers to be crucified. The governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the governor’s palace, and they all gathered around him. They took off his clothes and put a red robe on him. Using thorny branches, they made a crown, put it on his head, and put a stick in his right hand. Then the soldiers bowed before Jesus and made fun of him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” They spat on Jesus. Then they took his stick and began to beat him on the head. After they finished, the soldiers…

When God makes a promise

When God makes a promise

Deuteronomy 7:13 says: “He will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: He will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy wine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which He sware unto thy fathers to give thee.”

Notice that when God makes a promise, He makes it not just to the one who hears it, but to all of the future seed. When God said He would send His Son to die for our sins so that we could be blessed because when we have turned from our iniquities, He did it so that we could receive the blessing. Jesus died, not for His sins, but for our sins, and He died for our sins, bearing our curse, so that we could…

God Hates Religion

But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes,
which I also hate.

Revelation 2:6

If God hates something, then you are supposed to hate it. The
Nicolaitanes were known for their lascivious life style, for false
teaching, and for error. They wanted the priesthood to be restored, but
they wanted the church to be controlled by laymen. Nicholas, the
deacon, was their leader.

Men elected by men are not supposed to rule men called by God. When you
have laypersons trying to run what God planted, you will never get what
God wanted to happen because they aren’t called and anointed for that
role. Just because someone is a successful businessman doesn’t mean
that person knows anything about the anointing of God and the plan that
God has for the church.

God hates religion. Christianity is not a religion. Religion is

ye drink, but ye not are filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there

Haggai 1:5-6

Israel had been defeated and the temple destroyed. Later, God delivered
Israel from their captivity in Babylon and restored to them what had
been lost. Someone had raised the issue of building the Lord’s house
again, but the Israelites didn’t want to spend the money or expend the
effort.

Many believers are like these Israelites. They need to consider their ways, to take an inventory of what has happened to their finances. They
are honest, hard-working individuals. They are sowing a lot into the

Courage comes as we live with Jesus

“And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. And do not be afraid of their threats nor be troubled. I Peter 3:13-14”

On April 18, 2007, three Christians in Turkey were killed for their beliefs. Necati Aydin, a 35 year-old pastor was one of them.

He nearly didn’t go the office that morning. He’d been travelling and his wife, Semse, wanted him to stay home and rest. He admitted his weariness, but went on to work. There was much to be done. Semse recalls, “As my dear husband walked out the door, he smiled at me one last time. I didn’t know that was the last smile.”

Later that morning, attackers came to Necati Aydin’s office insisting he pray: “There is no God…

Acts 10:1

Cornelius was praying. Cornelius was giving. So God opened the door for
him to receive his salvation. God gave him the word of knowledge
immediately. He told him where to find Simon, what house he was in, and
the occupation of the person whose house he was in. Cornelius’ gift of
prayer and giving came as a memorial before God.

Thus, Cornelius was the first centurion to become saved. He was the
first centurion to receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost and speaking
in other tongues. Because he was consistent in prayer and giving, God
was able to bless him.

Interesting… Paul used what part of the Bible? He used the Hebrew Scriptures. Paul used the Old Testament to show that Jesus was the Messiah; Yeshua HaMashiach in Hebrew. It’s amazing to me how many churches, pastors, and Christians are willing to throw aside the Hebrew Scriptures calling them outdated or not relevant for today. Resurrection of Christ

Jesus Has Risen!

Romans 11:30-32

“For as you were once disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their disobedience, even so these also have now been disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy. For God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.”
NKJV

God offers all of mankind His mercy. Who are we to put limits on His mercy? When we choose not to minister the Gospel to another, we do just that. The definition of mercy is to not receive what you deserve. As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, let us remember that in no way did we deserve God’s merciful action. By no means did we merit Jesus’ suffering at the hands of the unrighteous and that He would bear the tremendous weight of our own sin…

Christ In You

“No one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit.”

John 3:5, NLT

When you believe in Christ, Christ works a miracle in you. “When you believed in Christ, He identified you as His own by giving you the Holy Spirit” (Eph. 1:13, NLT).

You are permanently purified and empowered by God himself. The message of Jesus to the religious person is simple: It’s not what you do. It’s what I do. I have moved in. And in time you can say with Paul, “I myself no longer live, but Christ lives in me” (Gal. 2:20, NLT).

Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed

John 20:29, NIV

The Grave Clothes

Upon hearing the news of the empty tomb, Peter and John ran to see for themselves. Peter confronted the evidence, but he was confused. At that instant, he must have been angrier than ever. He must have surmised that the enemies of Jesus who had dared to crucify Him, had now taken the body for who knew what purpose!

John quietly looked around. He noticed that the grave clothes were totally unlike those of Lazarus, which had been just a pile of stinking rags by the time Martha had finished unwrapping him. These grave clothes were lying, not as though someone had removed them from the body, but as though the body were still inside! The face cloth was situated where the face would have been, with the few inches…

Romans 1:29

We live in a world that has forgotten God. The latest bestselling books set out to discredit God. References to God are disappearing from many public institutions, and liberal activists want to remove His name from the Pledge of Allegiance.

God’s people should be shouting from the rooftops, “God is great!” The absence of any kind of rebuttal is the result of the insidious work of Satan. Satan wants to destroy all communication between God and man, and we help him every time we do not speak up.

The Power Of God’s Word

Luke 8:11, “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.”

LUKE 8:11-15

It is through the reading of the Word and the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit that Christ in His fullness is known. What a privilege it is today to have God’s Word in our own language. Six hundred years ago there was no English translation of the whole Bible. Thanks to the efforts of John Wycliffe (1384) and William Tyndale (1523), today we are able to read and understand the writings of the apostles for ourselves. Men gave their lives to bring us God’s Word. We should take advantage of this wonderful privilege.

The piece of armour known as the “sword of the Spirit” is the only piece of armour that has the ability to cut, wound, and hurt our enemy, the devil. It’s not the Bible
