Modern Views on Marriage vs. Baby Mama Culture: The Pursuit of Freedom and Control

I was minding my own business at Golden penny soup festival, when a lady dropped on the bench beside me, and in the same breath said to the lady facing her “Babe! When I get married, I will give my husband some freedom to cheat!”

Immediately the antennas of my ears shot up and I looked her, she smiled and faced her friend: “Babe! One woman no dey do one man, men are created like that! Know this and know peace Babe”

Her friend said all seriousness “I am baby mama for life!”

I turned and looked at her!

I said “Are you serious!” in my mind.

“Marriage is not for me”

“So, you still want to be a baby mama?”

“Yeah! I value my freedom! Most men are afraid of successful women!”

Well, they both look like they are in their early 30s and successful to a certain degree.

“I want to get married; I want the security that marriage gives, I don’t want to end up lonely at my old age”

“Who says you will be lonely when you are old? What guarantee do you have that your marriage will be successful?”

“I want to be in control of my life! I don’t want any man telling me what I can and cannot do! Baby mama for life”
