Heaven’s Entrance Exam

There’s a sermon illustration used by preachers about a man who dies and goes to heaven.  St. Peter meets him at the Pearly Gates and says to him, “Here’s how it works.  You need 100 points to make it into heaven.  You tell me all the goods things you’ve done, and I will give you a certain number of points for each item, depending on how good it was.  When you reach 100 points, you get in.”

“Okay,” the man says, “I was married to the same woman for 50 years and never cheated on her, even in my heart.”

“That’s wonderful,” says St. Peter, “that’s worth three points.”

“Three points?” he says.  “Well, I attended church all my life and faithfully supported its ministry with my tithe and my service.”

“Terrific!” says St. Peter.  “That’s certainly worth a point.”

“One point?  I started a soup kitchen in my city and worked in a shelter for homeless veterans.”

“Fantastic, that’s good for two more points.” he says.

“Two points????” the man cries. “At this rate, the only way I will get into heaven is by the grace of God!”

“That’s it!  100 points!  Come on in!”

As Christians, who have the Holy Spirit living in us, we should diligently seek to be the best father/mother, husband/wife, godly man/woman, faithful servant that God has called us to be. We should be working for the kingdom daily with a servant heart and a spirit submitted to the will of God. We should faithfully attend and serve through our church.  Those things should happen daily as an outflow of the heart of every Christian who loves the Lord.

But when we enter the gates of heaven and look into the eyes of Jesus, it won’t matter how many “good” things we’ve done (or haven’t done).  The only thing that will matter is… did we realize that we were sinners in need of God’s grace; did we recognize that only Jesus can save us; did we repent of our sin and ask Jesus to forgive us of our sin and did we trust in Jesus to save us and to give us eternal life?

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV)

Good morning!

Thank You Jesus,

Salvation Prayer

If you don’t Know Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour and would like to accept him into your life as your personal Lord and Saviour, Please say this prayer:

Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from You. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward You. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that Your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send Your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your Will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
