Hear Thou my pray’r, O Lord,

And listen to my cry;

Remember now Thy faithful word,

And graciously reply.

Do not in judgment rise

Thy servant’s life to scan,

For righteous in Thy spotless yes

Is found no living man.

3:

I stretch my longing hands

Toward Thy holy place,

With soul a thirst, like weary lands,

For Thy refreshing grace.

4:

Haste Thee, O Lord, I pray

My failing heart to save!

Hide not Thy face; I droop as they

That sink into the grave.

5:

Thy mercy’s early light

My faith desires to see;

O let me walk before Thy sight!

I lift my soul to Thee.

6:

Let Thy good Spirit lead

My feet in righteous ways And for

Thy name’s sake, Lord, my head

Above my troubles raise.

When at Thy footstool, Lord, I bend,

And plead with thee for mercy there,

Think of the sinner’s dying Friend,

And for His sake receive my prayer.

Oh think not of my shame and guilt,

My thousand stains of deepest dye;

Think of the blood which Jesus split,

My pardon and my life to buy.

3:

Think, Lord how I am still Thine own,

The trembling creature of thy hand;

Think; how my heart to sin prone,

And what temptation around me stand.

Oh think Lord upon thy holy word

And every plighted promise there;

How prayer should evermore be heard,

And how thy glory is to spare.

Oh think not of my doubts and fears,

My strivings with thy grace divine,

Think upon Jesus woes and tears,

The hallowed morn is dear to me,

When prayer and praise awake the day,

Or friends with sacred minstrelsy,

Call me from earthly cares away.

2:

And dear to me the scared hour

Employed within Thy courts,

O Lord! To feel devotion’s soothing power,

And taste the manna of Thy word.

3:

And dear to me the loud “Amen,”

Which echoes through the blest abode,

Which swells, and sinks, and swells again,

Dies on the walls, but lives with God.

In secret I have often prayed,

And still the anxious tears would fall;

But on Thy secret altar laid,

The fire descends and dries them all.

Let men of pleasure strike their lyre,
