Anglican Catechism
Anglican Catechism

Concerning the Catechism
This catechism is primarily intended for use by parish priests, deacons, and lay catechists, to give an outline for instruction. It is a commentary on the creeds, but is not meant to be a complete statement of belief and practices; rather, it is a point of departure for the teacher, and it is cast in the traditional question and answer form for ease of reference.
The second use of this catechism is to provide a brief summary of the Church’s teaching for an inquiring stranger who picks up a Prayer Book.
It may also be used to form a simple service; since the matter is arranged under headings, it is suitable for selective use, and the leader may introduce prayers and hymns as needed.
Human Nature
Q. What are we by nature?
A. We are part of God’s creation, made in the image of God.
Q. What does it mean to be created in the image of God?
A. It means that we are free to make choices: to love, to create, to reason, and to live in harmony with creation and with God.
Q. Why then do we live apart from God and out of harmony with creation?
A. From the beginning, human beings have misused their freedom and made wrong choices.
Q. Why do we not use our freedom as we should?
A. Because we rebel against God, and we put ourselves in the place of God.
Q. What help is there for us?
A. Our help is in God.
Q. How did God first help us?
A. God first helped us by revealing himself and his will, through nature and history, through many seers and saints, and especially the prophets of Israel.
God the Father
Q. What do we learn about God as creator from the revelation to Israel?
A. We learn that there is one God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
Q. What does this mean?
A. This means that the universe is good, that it is the work of a single loving God who creates, sustains, and directs it.
Q. What does this mean about our place in the universe?
A. It means that the world belongs to its creator; and that we are called to enjoy it and to care for it in accordance with God’s purposes.
Q. What does this mean about human life?
A. It means that all people are worthy of respect and honor, because all are created in the image of God, and all can respond to the love of God.
Q. How was this revelation handed down to us?
A. This revelation was handed down to us through a community created by a covenant with God.
The Old Covenant
Q. What is meant by a covenant with God?
A. A covenant is a relationship initiated by God, to which a body of people responds in faith.
Q. What is the Old Covenant?
A. The Old Covenant is the one given by God to the Hebrew people.
Q. What did God promise them?
A. God promised that they would be his people to bring all the nations of the world to him.
Q. What response did God require from the chosen people?
A. God required the chosen people to be faithful; to love justice, to do mercy, and to walk humbly with their God.
Q. Where is this Old Covenant to be found?
A. The covenant with the Hebrew people is to be found in the books which we call the Old Testament.
Q. Where in the Old Testament is God’s will for us shown most clearly?
A. God’s will for us is shown most clearly in the Ten Commandments.
The Ten Commandments
Q. What are the Ten Commandments?
A. The Ten Commandments are the laws given to Moses and the people of Israel.
Q. What do we learn from these commandments?
A. We learn two things: our duty to God, and our duty to our neighbors.
Q. What is our duty to God?
A. Our duty is to believe and trust in God;
I To love and obey God and to bring others to know him;
II To put nothing in the place of God;
III To show God respect in thought, word, and deed;
IV And to set aside regular times for worship, prayer, and the study of God’s ways.
Q. What is our duty to our neighbors?
A. Our duty to our neighbors is to love them as ourselves, and to do to other people as we wish them to do to us;
V To love, honor, and help our parents and family; to honor those in authority, and to meet their just demands;
VI To show respect for the life God has given us; to work and pray for peace; to bear no malice, prejudice, or hatred in our hearts; and to be kind to all the creatures of God;
VII To use our bodily desires as God intended;
VIII To be honest and fair in our dealings; to seek justice, freedom, and the necessities of life for all people; and to use our talents and possessions as ones who must answer for them to God;
IX To speak the truth, and not to mislead others by our silence;
X To resist temptations to envy, greed, and jealousy; to rejoice in other people’s gifts and graces; and to do our duty for the love of God, who has called us into fellowship with him.
Q. What is the purpose of the Ten Commandments?
A. The Ten Commandments were given to define our relationship with God and our neighbors.
Q. Since we do not fully obey them, are they useful at all?
A. Since we do not fully obey them, we see more clearly our sin and our need for redemption.
Sin and Redemption
Q. What is sin?
A. Sin is the seeking of our own will instead of the will of God, thus distorting our relationship with God, with other people, and with all creation.
Q. How does sin have power over us?
A. Sin has power over us because we lose our liberty when our relationship with God is distorted.
Q. What is redemption?
A. Redemption is the act of God which sets us free from the power of evil, sin, and death.
Q. How did God prepare us for redemption?
A. God sent the prophets to call us back to himself, to show us our need for redemption, and to announce the coming of the Messiah.
Q. What is meant by the Messiah?
A. The Messiah is one sent by God to free us from the power of sin, so that with the help of God we may live in harmony with God, within ourselves, with our neighbors, and with all creation.
Q. Who do we believe is the Messiah?
A. The Messiah, or Christ, is Jesus of Nazareth, the only Son of God.
God the Son
Q. What do we mean when we say that Jesus is the only Son of God?
A. We mean that Jesus is the only perfect image of the Father, and shows us the nature of God.
Q. What is the nature of God revealed in Jesus?
A. God is love.
Q. What do we mean when we say that Jesus was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and became incarnate from the Virgin Mary?
A. We mean that by God’s own act, his divine Son received our human nature from the Virgin Mary, his mother.
Q. Why did he take our human nature?
A. The divine Son became human, so that in him human beings might be adopted as children of God, and be made heirs of God’s kingdom.
Q. What is the great importance of Jesus’ suffering and death?
A. By his obedience, even to suffering and death, Jesus made the offering which we could not make; in him we are freed from the power of sin and reconciled to God.
Q. What is the significance of Jesus’ resurrection?
A. By his resurrection, Jesus overcame death and opened for us the way of eternal life.
Q. What do we mean when we say that he descended to the dead?
A. We mean that he went to the departed and offered them also the benefits of redemption.
Q. What do we mean when we say that he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father?
A. We mean that Jesus took our human nature into heaven where he now reigns with the Father and intercedes for us.
Q. How can we share in his victory over sin, suffering, and death?
A. We share in his victory when we are baptized into the New Covenant and become living members of Christ.
The New Covenant
Q. What is the New Covenant?
A. The New Covenant is the new relationship with God given by Jesus Christ, the Messiah, to the apostles; and, through them, to all who believe in him.

A. Christ promised to bring us into the kingdom of God and give life in all its fullness.
Q. What response did Christ require?
A. Christ commanded us to believe in him and to keep his commandments.
Q. What are the commandments taught by Christ?
A. Christ taught us the Summary of the Law and gave us the New Commandment.

The Anointing Can Be Dangerous
THE ANOINTING CAN BE DANGEROUS
THE ANOINTING CAN BE DANGEROUS
“Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.” – (Psalm 105:15)
READ: 2 Kings 1:9-12

When the anointing is handled positively, its effects are similar with handling electricity positively. When electricity is handled properly, it can produce light and heat just like with the microwave, but when handled carelessly, it can destroy. When handled the right way, the anointing can destroy yokes, according to Isaiah 10:27. However, when it is handled wrongly, it can kill. If a fellow messes around with electricity, he or she will get roasted.
In (2 Kings 1:9-12), a king sent some soldiers to arrest Elijah, and the captain met the man of God sitting on a hill. The captain ordered, “Man of God, come down.” Elijah answered, “So you know I’m a man of God, and you are talking to me like that? Roast!” Immediately, fire came down from heaven and burnt the captain and his soldiers. When the king waited, and those 51 soldiers didn’t come back, he sent another 50 soldiers with their captain. When the captain got there, he saw ashes on the floor. Speaking to Elijah, he was even more rude and said, “Man of God, come down quickly.” Again, Elijah roasted them. When people disdain the anointing, it may cost them their lives.
Years ago, when the military was ruling in Nigeria, the then-military head of state wanted to become a democratic ruler. His spiritual advisers told him that what he wanted to do would not succeed because of a man called Adeboye, who was always praying for the country in the Redemption Camp (now Redemption City). I was in the camp when one of my children who was privileged to hear the information came and said, “Daddy, you have to travel quickly, they are coming for you.” Although I am anointed, I was troubled. Fortunately, my wife wasn’t there when the message was delivered. Later that night, I told her that I wanted to go and pray. While I was praying, God spoke. He said, “Don’t worry about him, I have taken care of the situation.” Though it was the month of June, God told me to tell people to wish each other a happy new year during the Holy Ghost service. The Holy Ghost service held on a Friday, and by Sunday, the military dictator had been removed permanently.
Don’t joke with the anointing. One of the biggest mistakes we make as Christians is that we tend to get too familiar with the anointing. When people find an anointed man of God who is humble, there is a tendency to get overfamiliar with him, and this can be dangerous.
KEY POINT:
Never get too familiar with the anointing.

THE STUDY OF THE BOOK OF ROMANS: FOCUS ON CHAPTERS 3&4. A SYSTEM OF JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH
THE STUDY OF THE BOOK OF ROMANS: FOCUS ON CHAPTERS 3&4. A SYSTEM OF JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH
TEXT: ROMANS 3:21-31
INTRODUCTION/SUMMARY

We will continue our study of the Book of Romans by looking at Chapters 3 and 4. In chapters 1 and 2, we saw the depravity of human beings because they rejected God in their minds. We also saw that both the Jews and Gentiles need salvation because they could not meet up with God’s requirements by themselves. So in chapters 3 and 4, Paul continues to demonstrates the Jews’ need of salvation; he also proceeds to answer questions that he envisions protesting Jews might ask. He goes on to explain the faithfulness of God in spite of the Jews’ unbelief, and the right of God to condemn the unrighteousness of man. Paul then declares that God’s righteousness is to be found in a system involving justification by faith and not by keeping the works of any law. He then proceeds to provide evidence by referring to Abraham as an example. May the Lord open our hearts and give us more understanding of His Word in Jesus name, amen.

2. A righteousness through faith in Jesus (22a)
3. For all who believe, for all have sinned (22b-23)
B. GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS EXPLAINED (24-26)
1. Justification by grace through redemption in Christ (24)
2. Jesus’ blood offered by God as a propitiation through faith (25a)
3. This demonstrates God’s righteousness toward the one who has faith in Jesus (25b-26)
C. IMPLICATIONS OF GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS (27-31)
1. Boasting on man’s part is excluded (27a)
2. For justification is based on faith, not deeds of law (27b-28)
3. God is God of Jews and Gentiles, for He justifies both by faith (29-30)
4. This does not void the need for law, but rather meets the requirements of law (31)
WORDS TO PONDER
Redemption:
“a releasing, a payment for a ransom; refers to being released from the guilt of sin by the blood of Christ”
Justified:
“a legal term, indicating a verdict of ‘not guilty’; in
regards to sin, he who is justified is not held accountable for his sins”
propitiation:
“used to refer to an offering designed to appease; God offers the blood of Christ to appease for man’s sins”
sin:
“a missing of the mark” (Ro 3:23) — “a breaking of the law” (1Jn 3:4)
ROMANS CHAPTER 4
OBJECTIVES OF STUDYING THIS CHAPTER
1) To understand how Abraham was justified in God’s sight; 2) To see that the “righteousness” God imputes to man is actually justification (i.e., forgiveness); 3) To comprehend the nature of justifying faith by considering the example of Abraham
OUTLINE
I. JUSTIFICATION OF ABRAHAM AS AN EXAMPLE (1-8)
A. HOW ABRAHAM WAS JUSTIFIED (1-5)
1. If by works, then he could boast (1-2)
2. The Scriptures reveal it was by his faith in God (3)
a. One who trusts in works, seeks God’s debt, not His grace (4)
b. But when one trusts in God to justify him, such faith is counted for righteousness (5)
B. THE TESTIMONY OF DAVID (6-8)
1. Even David spoke of God imputing righteousness apart from Works (6)
2. Blessed are those against whom God does not impute sins (7-8)
II. RIGHTEOUSNESS BY FAITH AVAILABLE TO ALL BELIEVERS (9-25)
A. BECAUSE ABRAHAM WAS JUSTIFIED BEFORE CIRCUMCISION (9-12)
1. His faith was counted for righteousness before he was circumcised (9-10)
2. Circumcision was a seal of the righteousness he had while uncircumcised (11a)
3. Thus he became the father of all who have the same kind of faith, both circumcised and
uncircumcised (11b-12)
B. BECAUSE THE PROMISE TO ABRAHAM WAS GRANTED THROUGH FAITH (13-25)
1. The promise to be the heir of the world given in view of his faith (13)
2. It was not given through law (14-15)
3. But in light of faith, according to grace, to assure that all who are of the same faith as Abraham
might be heirs of the promise (16-17)
4. The kind of obedient faith illustrated by Abraham (18-22)
5. Abraham’s justification by faith assures that we who believe in Him who raised Jesus from the dead
shall find justification (23-25)
WORDS TO PONDER
Impute: “to reckon, take into account, or, metaphorically, to put down to a person’s account”
Righteousness: as used in this chapter, the idea seems to be akin that of “justification”, where one is
declared “not guilty” (see Rom 4:5-8)
CONCLUSION
The mistake made by many Jews…Believing their obedience and animal sacrifices (i.e., the Law) was all they needed and; failing to heed the Law and the Prophets, who bore witness regarding God’s justification.
The mistake many people make today…Believing that faith only saves, and obedience is not necessary and; failing to heed the gospel and the apostles, that the faith which saves is an obedient faith.
When we are careful to note “The Righteousness Of God Revealed”, we learn that God saves those whose faith in Jesus prompt them to obey His Word. Has your faith in Jesus led you to obey His Word?
Thank You Jesus,

Goodness of God (Summary)
Goodness of God (Summary)
Preacher: Pastor Adelupo Aderemi

This morning, I will be talking about the “Goodness of God”; I will be talking about the goodness of God in the life of a popular Bible character, David, it’s not going to be about David, it’s going to be about God, I’m just using David as a case study, so let’s bear in mind that it is about the goodness of God, not about David.
Like I said, we are going to put ourselves into part of David’s life, so we’ll go to the story about David and our Bible text is from Psalm 65: 9-13. We were introduced to David in 1st Samuel 16 when God sent Prophet Samuel to the house of Jesse to anoint one of his sons as a replacement for the reigning King Saul, he was brought in from the jungle and lo and behold, he was God’s anointed.
How the devil tried to stop David from the plan of God for his life:
· Sent a huge bear and ferocious lion.
· Goliath came along.
· King Saul turned against David; he pursued David through the nooks and crannies of Israel to take his life but the goodness of God saved David.
· Became a renowned warrior in the land and was leading the army of Israel on war campaigns against bigger, stronger and more formidable nations.
God has many ways to overcome mountains for us, we should not put Him in a box: He defeated Goliath for David in a way; for you, He may take you over the mountain, He may bore a hole through the mountain for you, He may take you round the mountain, that is God for you, He can cause us to fly as an eagle over the mountain and soar above it, God has many ways of dealing with mountains in our lives but just allow Him to be God in His own way.
The external enemies he defeated – the bears, the lions, the Goliath, the King Saul. David became king despite all the travails and then internal enemies took over – he had problem with lust, he committed adultery and he now committed murder to cover it. We all have to contend with internal enemies – some of us it may be anger, some of us, its pride, some of us its lust of this, lust of that, some of us its love of money.
The internal enemies he had to deal with;
- Lust
- Absalom, one of his children, supported by one of his trusted aides, Ahitophel.
- Another son, Adonijah, staged the coup when he saw an opportunity, and he had the support of the strongest general in David’s army and nephew, Joab, 1st Kings 1.
David was able to finish strong and well despite all the vicissitudes of life he faced, he died peacefully and contentedly, the goodness of God kept him, 1st Kings 2: 10 – 12.

Faith in the Time of Trouble
Faith in the Time of Trouble (Summary)

Preacher: Pst. Abiodun Akinyemi
Welcome us to this Palm Sunday; as we remember Palm Sunday, the significance of that is to always remember the love of Christ, to meditate upon it and see how we can reciprocate it back to Him and also how we can also exemplify that sacrifice ourselves to our fellow men.
This morning we want to look at one of the factors that make us entitled to the blessings of the Calvary. We are looking at the message titled “Faith in the Time of Trouble”. Mark 4: 35 – 41. Ephesians 2: 8, unless you have faith in what Jesus went to do at Calvary, you cannot appropriate the blessings of His sacrifice; so yes, we are saved by grace, but that grace will not become yours unless you have faith.
Let’s look at the lives of these Disciples of Christ who were with Him and then trouble still came and see what lessons we can learn:
- You can be with God and trouble will still come.
- Your safest anchor as a believer (in time of trouble) is to ensure that Jesus is with you.
- When trouble comes to a believer and you are in the center of God’s will or you’re obeying His instruction, you are going to survive.
- When trouble comes for a believer, what determines whether we survive or not is who we run to.
- When trouble comes, God uses it as an opportunity to further bring us closer to Himself.
- Jesus is never too far away.
Thank You Jesus,

Door of Joy
Door of Joy

Preacher: Pastor Julius Olalekan (SATGO, Personnel)
Praise the Lord! You know today is your day, praise the Lord! You know the devil has lost battle over you, praise the Lord! You know your season of joy has arrived, praise the Lord!
[Music] [Prayer]
Psalms 100:1-5; “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations”. Hallelujah!
We are talking about the door of joy; now everything in life has its own door; there is a door to joy; there must be an entrance to somewhere. You want to enter into the season of joy, there is a door and when that door opens, you enter.
In Revelation 3: 7, Jesus Christ said I’m the one that has the key of David, when I open nobody can shut, when I shut no one can open. He said behold, I set before you an open door which no man can ever shut and that door will remain open in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus.
So there are doors but there is this door that is called the ‘door of joy’ and my desire and my prayer for you is that that door will open to you today. I was glad when I heard the choir singing that song and I could say that you are prepared for joy, and that is the glory of God in our lives. There is no substitute for joy, where joy is lacking everything dries up; the Bible says the fig tree, the pomegranate and everything dried up because joy is dried off from the life of men.
When you lose joy you lose everything; when you don’t have it you don’t have anything; what adds value to your life is joy; what makes you look beautiful is joy. If you go to the studio and the photographer wants to snap you, he’d tell you to smile; when you frown he won’t take it and he’d tell you to say ‘cheese’ and then you would fake the smile, you will do everything and he’d smile and say beautiful. Your beauty comes when you smile, but devil does not want you to smile in life, but he has lost the battle; from today, you will continue to smile in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
This door of joy, what happens when God opens this door for you? Number one that happens when God opens the door for you is that from today, this very Sunday, sorrow shall disappear.
Isaiah 35: 10, the Bible says “And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, (what will happen?) and sorrow and sighing shall flee away”. In the name of Jesus, sorrow will flee away from here today.
There are things in our lives that give us sorrow; when we dress up and look elegant, but in different departments of our lives there are things that are looking like Pharaoh; go, it said I’m not going; but God is saying today, the Egyptians that followed you here you will never see them anymore in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ. It says you will return, sorrow will flee away; sighing will flee away in the mighty name of the Lord.
You look at the example of Hannah in the scriptures; the Bible says she was a woman of sorrow because they were provoking her every day. There was another woman that was just mocking her, just provoking her because she didn’t have a child, but what happened eventually? God fought for her. God will fight for you.
The Bible says in 1st Samuel 1: 10; one particular day she entered into the temple, she prayed at Shiloh and the word came and said your prayers have been answered; and the Bible says she left and her countenance was no more sad. From that day she never know sorrow again; from that particular day sorrow disappeared from her life, meaning what? If it has happened before, it can happen again.
It can happen to anybody, there are people who have gone through it and that is why I’m praying today, you will never know it, you will never ever know it.
Somebody was coming to where we were having a meeting, praying, (weekly prayer meeting), and when she was coming, she saw a woman sitting down at the center of the road weeping and crying and this woman went to her, ‘woman, you are close to the road, won’t you be afraid of accidents’? She said which accidents? Anyone that wants to kill me should kill me, when I didn’t die what am I living for? What is the problem? And then the woman explained to her that she got married without any child and then her husband and the family came to her just last night (and that was in October), they told her this year is the end, by January 1st, they must not meet her in the house, she should begin to pack her load and know where she is going.
They held the meeting, the husband was there and they left; after they had left, she turned to her husband and said didn’t you hear what your parents said? He said yes, they have spoken well. Ha, is that what you would say?
She lost anything called joy, she was no more herself, she just went out not knowing where she was going, and then she just sat down in the middle of the road, and the other one said I’m going to church, I’m going to pray and God that answers prayer, His name is Jesus, you can follow me and she followed her. They came to the meeting, did the prayers; came for the second one, did the prayers, and then these people came first of January and they told her what are you still doing in this house? We have asked you to pack, move now; and she asked them what the agreement was; you gave me ultimatum till January, have you asked for the results? They asked what the result is, and she went in and brought the result that showed that she was two months pregnant. I’m not telling story; the day she was sharing the testimony, she was shedding tears of joy.
Listen to me brethren; if there is any tear you will still shed, it will be tears of joy. A day is coming, you will stand here, you will sing a song, ‘I never knew you will answer me this way…’ and that day will come very very soon in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus.
For that fellow saying amen, I said from today, sorrow disappears from your house, disappears from your home, disappears from your career, and disappears from every area of your life.
You just mentioned FUTA and I remember the case in FUTA when we were there, there was a boy that gained an admission and got into FUTA and the father celebrated him in Lagos, (they were living in Lagos); they celebrated him, he called the whole house and everyone, they even killed a goat to say that he was going to the university.
On getting there, the first year he was on probation, and the second year, if he got the second one, he would be advised to withdraw; when he got that, he had concluded that he was on his way home early in the morning full of sorrow, he left for the fish pond to go and commit suicide, and then one of my friends was on his way to the field to go and pray early in the morning and saw someone going to the fish pond early in the morning when it was still dark; the Holy Spirit told him follow him and he followed him, and he got him and said brother, where are you going? He said what is your problem? He said there is there is a problem, where are you going? Holy Spirit said I should follow you and then he broke down in tears and told him they celebrated me to come here, what will it be for me to go back withdrawn from school, its better I die than to go and face such a shame, and the brother said don’t worry yourself, there is a solution.
He brought him to the fellowship in the evening, gave his life to Jesus, and started serving God; by the time the same boy graduated, they gave him an award during the convocation as the best improving student from probation to 2.1.
I’m praying for someone here, you will succeed, you will never know failure again in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ. The God that we serve is a God of joy, He gives joy; go to the scripture, there was nowhere He got to and there was sorrow, and He left there and He left sorrow there, nowhere, check the scriptures. He’s against sorrow, and when I’m talking about sorrow, we are even talking about the foundation of sorrow which happens to be sickness, affliction, failure, shame, trouble, because there is somewhere that this sorrow is coming from.
Somebody is of a marriageable age, she hasn’t gotten husband; you don’t have children, you don’t have job, the parents are saying when will you begin to take care of us, you are still writing letter and say please send me money. The Bible says some people will wake up in the morning and sleep late in the night (like people in Lagos), and at the end of the month they will eat the bread of sorrow, nothing to show for it, but God is telling someone here, you will never labor in vain.
Because you are in this service, every step you take from today will yield glorious results in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
So when God opens the door of joy, sorrow will flee. Number two; the door of sorrow will be permanently shut, it will never open again in the mighty name of Jesus.
In 1st Chronicles 4: 9& 10, there was a man that is called Jabez; the Bible says this man was called sorrow by name, he was sorrow in person, personified, but the Bible says this man prayed and cried unto the Lord and the Lord changed his sorrow, and God is about to do something here today.
Look at verse 10; “And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! (What happened?) And God granted him that which he requested”. The last thing he asked for was that Lord, take away this sorrow but then don’t let me ever know it again, shut the door permanently, don’t let me ever see evil – anything called evil; poverty is evil, shame is evil, sickness is evil, affliction is evil, they are not your portion. After today that you will pray here, you will never see them anymore; God Himself will say to you here in the mighty name of Jesus.
Look at Zephaniah 3: 15, the Bible says “The Lord hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the Lord, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more”. How? You will never see it anymore; you will never see evil anymore; you will never see failure anymore; you will never see reproach anymore; you will never see trouble anymore. If it’s waiting for you, before you get there, fire will clear it in the mighty name of God, because God is always by His own, He’s ever faithful and you will never know evil again.
Number three, what will happen? Happenings of joy will begin in your house, in your life, marriage will start, wedding upon wedding, children dedication, house dedication, promotions, elevation, celebration, testimonies, peace all around, all you need is for Him to open this door unto you, let Him open this door of joy and one after the other, things will begin to happen.
Like Hannah that I told you, as soon as the almighty God opened the door of joy, the Bible says she didn’t have a child, she had Samuel; God opened another door she had another one; opened another one, had another one; opened another one, had another one; and she had another five; from joy to joy to joy to joy. I’m praying for someone here today again, the door of joy that God will open to you will be permanent; things of joy will begin to happen and you will never know sorrow again, and God can do it in such a way that you will look around and say where is this sorrow that I’ve been carrying for years that looks as if it can never go.
There was a man in Lagos here when I was in Lagos, he came to a service and he had an encounter, but the story was a very bad one; he was a very big man, working, well known in Nigeria, and suddenly this problem came and they froze his account, took everything that he had – his house, his cars, everything he ever had was taken away from him. He could not feed his family again, a woman and four children; the man ran to Ghana thinking that things would be better, he got to Ghana, spent five years in Ghana and nothing worked; he came back home to locate the family, getting to where they rented there was nobody there and they said your wife is no more here, so he started searching and discovered that the wife had gone to Abuja to meet with her parents with the children.
So he decided to go to Abuja to go and see them, he went there, as soon as the father-in-law sighted him, he told him if you don’t want to die, don’t enter this house; and because he didn’t want to die, he didn’t enter, he ran back to Lagos, he was in depression, stayed in a friend’s house and then he came for a service like this and he had an encounter with God.
You see, this God answers prayers; when you go to church brethren, He answers prayers. My house shall be called the house of prayer; when I ask you to pray today please pray, this God is real, He’s alive, He’s on your side, you don’t have any reason to doubt Him.
He came for the first time, he prayed; the following week he received a call that they had been looking for him at Abuja that they have discovered that the case five years ago was false and that now, they have reversed everything – his house has been returned, his account has been released, his money has been released, everything they took from him was returned within one week, within seven days, that God is still alive.
He went to Abuja, got everything back and everything, you know what he did? He went into a car stand, bought a brand new car; went to boutique, bought good clothes, dressed well and got sunshades, good shoes and everything. I entered into the car, tear rubber, and went again into the same house of his father-in-law; he parked outside, it was a tinted glass and they all came out and said who is this, where is he coming from?
Everybody came out and said which visitor is visiting us; then he brought out the first leg, they were waiting for him to show his face; the first leg that he brought out, his shoe was shining, you could look at yourself and they were still waiting for who the person was; he brought out the other hand with the wristwatch, and then came out with the glasses, removed the glasses and the father-in-law said my son, my son, I know that one day God will do it, I know, I just know because you carry destiny.
They took him in and then he took his wife and went back again.
I’m praying for someone here, there will be a turnaround, total turn around in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus.
What do you do? Before we pray, because this door must open today and it will open now. The first thing is have faith in God, do what Hannah did. She had faith in God that was why she went to Shiloh, she believed God would answer her prayers. Be it unto you according to your faith.
Jesus Christ said if I come back will I find faith on earth? Not everybody that goes to church has faith; some people just feel that look, I must go there, but look brethren, have faith in God. Mark 11: 22, have faith in God for with Him nothing is impossible; demonstrate your faith, let your faith come alive, Hallelujah! God will honor that faith today in the mighty name of Jesus.
Number two, do what Hannah did, ignore your mockers, don’t concentrate on them, they are not your problems, when God changes your situation they will change. Some of us concentrate on them; he said this he said this; they abused me, they insulted me, they reproached me, they did this one and you are fighting them, they are not the problem, when God settles you, by force they will come and celebrate, praise the Lord!
Imagine the day Samuel was born and Hannah wore her cloth and her headgear was a very big one and then people gathered together for naming and she was going around, you know the way women do at parties, going around and thanking everybody for coming and Peninah was the one that was carrying plates and washing plates with her children. I’m praying for you today, on the day of your joy your enemies will be in shame in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. He has done it before, He will do it again. Ignore them.
Isaiah 45: 23, it says “ I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear”. The wordhas gone out, it will not return in the mighty name of Jesus.
Number three, use the key of prayers. There’s what they call ‘operation push’, pray until something happen; don’t stop praying, there is no option to your joy, your joy must be full.
In John 16: 24, it says Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. He gives fullness of joy, that is the interest of the Lord – pray until something happens, and it will happen today in the mighty name of Jesus.
Number four; be planted in the house of the Lord. Psalms 92: 13, “Those that be planted in the house of God…” not people that are planted online, praise God! I celebrate the people online but be planted in the house of God, there is no substitute to the house of God, it doesn’t happen; it’s in Christianity that we are beginning to migrate to online, mosque don’t go online, the unbelievers don’t go online.
We were coming one day on a Friday, even on the express road (in Bauchi), they were all along the road; they would block the road for you on Friday, they don’t go online. You go to churches, cathedrals will be empty because some people decide to go online; He said those that are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish, not those who are planted online, you don’t belong to anybody. Online people are prostitutes, before they watch this one they have watched another one, they will watch this and watch that one and watch this one and then they will switch to this and say oh choir is the one singing, let me hear this one; and then they’ll go to this one. Prostitutes, they will be moving, different fathers, and daddy GO said that when you have many fathers you must be a bastard; ajumobi, they gather together to give birth; this one is your father, this one is your father, you go to all the ministries, everywhere, you just sit down and be going all around and then towards the end of the service you click to this service and say I have attended, you have not attended.
They that are planted in the house of the Lord… how do you think that this same God is a rewarder of them that diligently… Some people were here 6am, you lie down on the bed and think the same God will reward you the same way, it cannot happen and it can never happen. He’s a God that is just, be planted in the house of God.
He said ‘My house’, which means He has a house. There are things that don’t happen until you get to Zion; upon Mount Zion there shall be deliverance and holiness and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.
Hannah had prayed for life until she entered into the temple and prayed, and the man of God made the prophecy, just one prophecy brought her out of sorrow and took her to an everlasting joy. Be planted in the house of the Lord, don’t be deceived by social media, that is not the house of the Lord, you know the house of the Lord, be there.
The Bible says when you are there you will flourish and the word of God is ever settled, may I pray for every one of you here, you will flourish and everyone online who have repented will flourish also; if you have not, then God will touch your hearts, praise the Lord!
And then the last thing is that keep sowing joy, meaning what, the best gift you can give to any man is joy and what is that gift? Jesus Christ. Anywhere you go talk about Jesus, because when you give anybody Jesus you are giving the fellow fullness of joy, because by the name of Jesus he will be able to assess joy himself.
Members of your families that have not known God, deliberately and intentionally preach to them, talk to them, you may not have money, you may not have to give them anything, give them joy, give them Jesus. Those people that you are sending money to every time and they are not born again, you are wasting your resources, give them Jesus, let them be saved, that’s the best gift you can give to them.
If you have built house for them, you have done this for them and they don’t have Jesus, you have lost them, there is no joy over them. The Bible says there is joy in heaven over one soul that repents and turns to the Lord; when you go out, when you go anywhere, give people joy, give them Jesus, take flyers, invite people, don’t come to church alone, make God happy, let the heaven rejoice because of what you have done.
Those people in your places of work, they are your colleagues, they need Jesus, bring them here; if you don’t know how to preach to them, you invite them, they will encounter the God that you serve here, He will settle them; be an evangelist for the Lord in your spheres of influence, don’t just talk about money and politics, talk about Jesus and you will see the heaven responding to you in a very serious manner.
Look at Hannah, she said give me a child and I will make him to be Your priest; she touched the heart of God; when you do the work of God, you touch the heart of God and He can do anything for you, praise the Lord! That will happen, anybody you talk to will receive the Lord; from today, you will be joy givers.
Before we pray, there is one door that even nobody can open, and it will surprise you that even Jesus Christ cannot open it, the only person that can open it is you and until that door is opened, Jesus cannot open any other door for you, it is very clear.
Let’s look at Revelation 3: 20, it says “Behold, I stand at the door (of your heart), and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me”. I will come in and celebration starts; I will come in and jubilation starts; I will come in and happiness begins. He said but I can’t open, I can only knock, that is where it is amazing; salvation can never be by force, there must be a day you make up your mind and say Jesus come into my heart, be my Lord and be my Savior, that day that you open your door and He comes in, every other door of joy will begin to open unto you, the grace to do that may God give it to you this morning.
Shall we bow down our heads in prayers; before we go and pray for this God to open this door for us today, He’s knocking at the door of your heart now, you want to open that door, you want to see Jesus come into my heart so that every other door will begin to open, you want Him to come into your life you want Him to rule in your life, you want Him to be your Lord, you want Him to be your Savior, you want Him to be everything to you either here or online, you have made up your mind, put your left hand on your chest and lift up your right hand for Jesus still coming to your life, for Him to enter, I want to pray with you; just open that door, you are the only one that has the authority to open that door, not even God can force you to do it but until you do it, no other door can open by the authority of heaven.
[Altar call]
[Prayer]
[Music]
You are going to pray as if you have never prayed before, whatever is called the foundation of sorrow, the One who is called the Consuming Fire will visit it by fire in the mighty name of Jesus. It can be sickness, it can be barrenness, it can be shame, it can be lack, it can be failure, whatever, before you finish this prayer it shall flee away in the mighty name of the Lord.
Raise your voice violently, say Father, arise in Your power as the consuming fire, every foundation of sorrow in my life, in my family, my Father my Father, visit it with Your fire now.
[Prayer]
Visit every foundation of sorrow; be it sickness, be it affliction, be it disease, be it failure, be it trouble, be it retrogression, visit it with Your fire.
Visit the foundation, the foundation of sorrow; everything called sickness, everything called affliction, everything called barrenness, everything called loneliness, everything called delay, anything that is generating sorrow, Lord God of heaven, visit with Your power.
Brethren pray a little more, you have the power to set yourself free; life and death are in the power of tongue, visit the foundation, whatever does not allow your joy to be full, Father visit every foundation. Thank You Father, thank You Lord in Jesus mighty name we have prayed.
I don’t know the fellow here but listen to me, I’m declaring now to you and hear it well, there’s a good news coming your way, be expectant, check out for it; there’s a good news coming that will cause you to jump for joy.
I don’t know the fellow here also, that stubborn source of shame has just been converted to source of glory and testimony. Thank you my Father; what a great God I serve, we celebrate You Lord.
You are going to pray this one prayer before I pray for you and please pray with all your strength; you can open the door with keys, you can force the door open, you can scatter but all it matters is that your door must open now; the door of joy must open now.
Pray violently and say Father in the mighty name of Jesus, I declare and I command every door leading to my joy, what are you waiting for, open now!
I command you to open!!! Open now in the name of Jesus, thank You precious Father, in Jesus name we have prayed.
Stretch forth your hand as if you are receiving something, can you ask for three things that’s very specifically, just mention them before I pray for you and you will return with testimonies. Go ahead and just ask, heaven is delivering them into your hands, today is a day you’ll collect your blessings.
What is it that must happen to your business for your joy to be full? What is it that must happen in your family for your joy to be full? What is it that must happen in your life for your joy to be full? What is it that must happen to your loved ones, for your children, for your joy to be full? This hour, pray the way Hannah prayed; her lips were moving but nobody understood what she was saying, she was pouring out her heart but God listened to her; pour them out, mention them in His ears, He that created ear, shall He not hear?
He said before they call I will answer, while they are yet speaking I will hear; this is God who answers before He hears; thank You Father, in Jesus mighty name we have prayed.
Father in the mighty name of Jesus, I stand with the authority of heaven, pray for all these Your children wherever you are and you are connected to this meeting; every one of you, the door of sorrow is permanently shut in the mighty name of Jesus.
I command the fire of God to visit every foundation of sorrow and burn them in the mighty name of Jesus. From now on, the door of joy is open to you; the door of joy is open to your family; the door of joy is open to your home. As you are saying that amen, shame disappears; as you are saying that amen, delay comes to an end; as you are saying that amen, failure is turned to success; as you are saying that amen, breakthrough comes your way; as you are saying that amen, very soon you will shed tears of joy; whatever you have requested from the Lord in this house today, receive in abundance in the mighty way receiving abundance in the mighty name of Jesus!!! It is done, in Jesus mighty name we have prayed.

JOY IN RESTING IN CHRIST
JOY IN RESTING IN CHRIST
TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 4:1-9
INTRODUCTION

Today’s lesson brings to an end our study of the book of Philippians. You would recall that in chapter 1, we learnt that there is joy in living for Christ [Phil 1:12]. Then we talked about the right attitude in serving Christ in unity; without complaints, or unnecessary arguments [Phil 2:14]. In chapter 3, we went on to discuss the joy in knowing Christ. We were told that our focus should be the finishing line and that means reigning with Christ in eternity [Phil 3:13-14].
For today, we will concern ourselves with the joy in resting in Christ Jesus. To accomplish this, there is need to show contentment, always [Phil 4:11]; our circumstance notwithstanding. There are three [3] outlines as detailed below.
OUTLINE 1: FINDING REST BY RESOLVING CONFLICT [Phil 4:2-5]
• Euodias and Syntyche [both women] had a dispute/conflict. Apostle Paul urged both to
settle their disagreement because they are of the same mind with God. Phil 4:2, Phil 2:2.
• In Phil 4:3, Paul called for the intervention of the brethren in resolving the dispute. He
acknowledged that these women worked with him in spreading the good news. He
acknowledged that spreading the gospel opens the door for your name to be written in the
Book of Life. Rev 20:15.
• In Phil 4:4, Paul urged us to be full of joy no matter the circumstance. Recall that he wrote
this letter to the Philippians in captivity; yet he was full of joy knowing that the work of
God was progressing. The beauty of being filled with joy always is that, the possibility of
conflicts would be obliterated; since there will be no space in your soul for other vices
such as found in Gal 5:19-21. 1 Corinthians 6:20 .
• In Phil 4:5, he talks about moderation or gentleness. Doing things in a manner that will not
distract others from focusing on God. This is a pointer to Jesus Christ in the way He
humbled Himself [Phil 2:8]. We should live with the assurance that He will soon return to
take us home. Gal 5:22-23.
OUTLINE 2: FINDING REST THROUGH PREVAILING PRAYER [Phil 4:6-7]
• In verse 6, the Bible says we should be anxious for nothing. It is a command and not an
option. Matthew 6:26-28 serves as a guide. Rather in EVERYTHING, we should through
[prevailing] prayers present to God. Do not take anything for granted. Our attitude
should be to pray about everything and be thankful for anything. Remember, Jesus Christ
always gave thanks. John 11:41, Luke 22:19.
• For verse 7, three [3] things stand out: the peace of God, surpasses all understanding
and keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Peace is indeed a gift from God. Surpasses all understanding brings to the fore our
limitations in comprehending the ways of God [Isaiah 55:8] and keeping our hearts
speaks to strengthening our faith in Jesus Christ [Hebrews 11:6].
OUTLINE 3: FINDING REST BY RENEWING YOUR MIND [Phil 4:8-9]
• Verse 8 tells us the right place to put our minds. Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 10:5 lends
credence to where our minds should dwell. No doubt, these virtues in Phil 4:8 are
embedded in the fruit of the spirit in Gal 5:22-23.
• Phil 4:9. What is the essence of teaching or learning or receiving or seeing if we are not
able to put same into practice? Let us be followers of Christ just as Apostle Paul followed
Him. 1 Corinthians 4:17, Psalm 25:4
CONCLUSION
If we follow and work according to the teachings in the book of Philippians, the result
will be as captured in Phil 4:13. Therefore, what do we need to excel in this work? We
have the assurance that God will supply all you need according to His riches in glory by
Christ Jesus [Phil 4:19].
Thank You Jesus,
Salvation Prayers
If you don’t Know Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour and would like to accept him into your life as your personal Lord and Saviour, Please say this prayer:
Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from You. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward You. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that Your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send Your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your Will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
