Be strong and very courageous. —Joshua 1:7

Whether it’s the loss of a job, the loss of a loved one, a serious illness, or a financial setback, every major change brings challenges.

The book of Joshua is recommended reading whenever we find ourselves in transition. After 40 years of wandering and setbacks, God’s people were poised to enter the Promised Land. Moses, their great leader, had died, and Joshua, his assistant, was in charge.

God told Joshua to “be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go” (Joshua 1:7). God’s words of direction were to be the bedrock of Joshua’s leadership in every situation.

The Lord’s charge and promise to Joshua apply to us as well: “Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (v. 9).

Prayer:

Father, I’m bringing You my trials and frustrations. You know each and every detail. Please comfort me as only You can, and provide exactly what I need for today. Help me give my unfulfilled expectations to You, trusting You’re working out a plan for me.

God remains faithful in every change.

Proverbs 21:21

Beloved of God,

Courage is defined as “the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face
difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear; bravery.”

For many, it takes courage to simply get out of bed in the morning because of physical or emotional challenges.
For others, like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. or Rosa Parks, it took “courage” to
confront the giant of institutional and systemic racism. As Christians, we too
must exercise courage when it comes to standing up for our beliefs-standing for
what the Bible teaches. 1 Peter 3:15-16 says, “Always be prepared to give an answer
to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this
with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak
maliciously against your good behaviour in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.”

If “fitting in or going with the flow” is what makes you comfortable, then it’s time for self-reflection and examination.

While we see much turmoil in the world, we must never lose hope in Christ. Actually,
the chaos should be viewed as an opportune season for the Church to be a true witness
to the world. The time that we spend on earth is merely a vapour or a “mist”, as stated in James 4:14, when compared to the time that we’ll
spend in eternity with Christ. Trouble does not last always!!!

May the LORD bless Nigeria, American and Israel and take care of us; May the LORD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!
