Name an attraction or town close to home that you still haven’t got around to visiting.

I would love to visit Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, Nigeria.

Aba, known as the “China of Africa” for its industrial and commercial prowess, offers a mix of historical landmarks, massive markets, and recreational spaces. Below are the top tourist attractions in and around Aba for 2026.

Historical & Cultural Landmarks

Aba is rich in colonial history and serves as a major hub for Igbo cultural heritage.

NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR MUSEUMS AND MONUMENTS

National museum

Located at 6 Ikot Ekpene Road, this museum traces Nigeria’s evolution from pre-colonization through the slave trade era to independence. It features 8 bays of artifacts and over 400 historical collections. Entrance is typically around ₦200.

ABA SPORTS CLUB

A historic private members’ club and recreational center that has been a staple of the city’s social life for decades.

Shopping & Industrial Tourism

The city’s vibrant markets are its primary draw, offering a unique look at West African manufacturing.

CHINNYEXCEL

One of West Africa’s largest open-air markets, famous for its leather works and shoemaking. It spans three local government areas and contains over 37,000 stalls where you can find clothing, household goods, and local crafts at affordable prices.

AKWETE

Akwete Weavers: Located in the nearby town of Akwete, this site is world-renowned for traditional Akwete cloth made on handlooms. Visitors can see the intricate weaving process of cotton and silk fabrics.

NATURE & RECREATION

For leisure and outdoor activities, there are several sites within a short drive of the city center.

AZUMINI BLUE RIVER

Situated about 39km from Aba, this river is famous for its crystal-clear blue water that famously turns green when it rains. The area offers sandy beaches for relaxation, fishing, and boating.

ABA AMUSEMENT PARK

Located on Market Road, this park features a playground, event halls, and several restaurants. It is a popular spot for families, especially on weekends.

ENYIMBA INTERNATIONAL STADIUM, ABA

A must-visit for sports fans, this stadium is the home ground of the Enyimba F.C., one of Nigeria’s most successful football clubs.

AMAKAMA WOODEN CAVE

A unique historical site featuring a “wonder tree” that is over 100 years old. It appears hollow inside like a cave but remains alive.

NATIONAL WAR MUSEUM (UMUAHIA): Located about 45 minutes away in the state capital, it houses three galleries of military history, including relics from the Nigerian-Biafra War.

AROCHUKWU LONG JUJU SLAVE ROUTE: A significant historical site related to the ancient Oracle of Ibin Ukpabi and the slave trade era.

Using Peter Obi Of Nigeria as a case study:

Peter Obi’s leadership style is often cited as a model for “Servant Leadership” in this 21st century. His approach emphasizes transparency, frugality, and data-driven decision-making, which many see as a “Prison Break” from the traditional, high-waste political culture in Nigeria.

What makes you feel nostalgic?

Fufu and Ofe Egusi

Nothing for now!

But a few weeks back, I was driving by a roadside buka and the aroma of their Ofe Egusi hit me unexpectedly like bazooka!

I was stunned truly, and I was nostalgic for days. I reminded me how much I missed our locally prepared dishes in the Eastern part of Nigeria, the Biafra Land.

I can’t truly remember the last time I ate a meal that had such powerful aroma in decades!

It brought back childhood meal times in the East.

You get to build your perfect space for reading and writing. What’s it like?

I like spacious study room, with big windows for sunlight and fresh breeze.

I like comfortable tables and chairs.

Must be air Conditioned.

I light bright Day-lights bulbs, the room must be well illuminated.

The walls and the floors must be white shinning tiles or the wall painted in brilliant white paints.

There must be a fridge for fruits and bottle water, a shower room at the extreme.

No television! Maybe a sound system for soft music and a couch by the side, just incase I get tired and need to rest my back for a while.
