By Pastor Darasimi Oyor
You know, just some time ago, there was one particular evening. The light was out in the kitchen and it was quite difficult to fix something to eat. I just wanted something—something simple. So I just felt, okay, since it’s simple, I don’t need the light. I don’t need to get lights from anywhere, even though I know there was a lamp close by somewhere. So I just felt, ah, it’s just a simple snack. So in the dark, I was trying to put two and two together, trying to fix something. I know I was making a mess as well, but I felt, let me just quickly get over it and leave.
And as I was working, it hit me that—hold on—there was a lamp here, or there is a lamp here left by the help that we had. So why am I struggling if there’s actually a lamp in the kitchen? And all I had was just to look up. As I just looked up, I saw the lamp looking at me—switched off. And all I had was just to stretch my hand and turn it on. As soon as I did that, the kitchen was flooded with light. And as soon as that happened, a word just echoed in my mind: ignorance. Ignorance. My goodness—I didn’t have to think about it. It just came: ignorance.
And it hit me as well that so many of us enjoy messing up in the dark without acknowledging the light that we have. You know, the Lord will not come and open our Bibles and read it to us. He expects us to feed from the lights that He has made available. You know the scripture that says, “My people perish for lack of knowledge”—it’s very salient to the experience that I just recounted. Because I was literally making a mess in the kitchen, and I was still telling myself that it’s something quick. “Let me just quickly do it and leave this place. I don’t need to go out and start looking for the lamp.” The lamp was literally right there, and all I had to do was just to switch it on.
All we have to do is just to open the Bible and read. You know, I’m pretty sure if you can just be honest and ask yourself if you have a Bible in your house, I’m pretty sure you’d say yes, you do. Almost all of us have Bibles with us—in our phone, in our house. Even if you don’t have a Bible, you have a phone, and you can go to your iOS or to your Play Store and download the Bible. It is there, available for you. But so many of us—so many of us—literally blame God for every single thing that happens to us without just opening the Bible to read and to understand the power that we have in Christ as believers.
I’m talking to believers right now. You know, so many believers choose to stay in the dark. The scripture that says, “My people perish for lack of knowledge”—God says “My people.” His people. Which means these people—they are people of God. They are children of God. They are born again. But they still perish. Why? For lack of the light. For lack of knowledge. For lack of the knowledge of God’s Word.
So back to the lesson is that—please, don’t be like me and choose to remain in the dark. Because it’s just going to be to your disadvantage. Maybe due to laziness, or due to negligence, or due to ignorance. You’re not aware that the light has been made available for you. Please—it is available to you. Just open the Bible and relish God’s Word. God’s Word is spirit and life. Its spirit and life.
What does that mean? It means it has the ability to give life to whatever it comes in contact with. And God’s Word—it is dynamic in nature, which means it can talk to any situation and any circumstance it finds itself. So please, don’t be like me and don’t stay in the dark. Open God’s Word and let your life be flooded with light.
Thank You Jesus,
Salvation Prayers
If you don’t Know Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour and would like to accept him into your life as your personal Lord and Saviour, Please say this prayer:
Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from You. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward You. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that Your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send Your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your Will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
