Be Your Brother’s Keeper
Obadiah 1:11
“In the day that you stood on the other side-In the day that strangers carried captive his forces, When foreigners entered his gates And cast lots for Jerusalem–Even you were as one of them.”
NKJV
Apathy, detachment, disinterest, disregard… no matter what you call it, it’s not an option as a follower of Jesus. In the book of Obadiah, God proclaims judgment on Edom because they stood by and watched Israel be destroyed and taken into captivity. They saw their brother in need and did nothing. Contrast this to Jesus who was active in our redemption.
Philippians 2:7-8 “but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” NKJV
Jesus intentionally left His throne and the glory of heaven to walk among the pain and suffering of the world. He then purposefully gave up His life so that we could know forgiveness. He could have stayed in heaven, but because of His great love for us and in obedience to the Father, Jesus acted. As followers of Christ, may we be active in loving, caring for and sharing with others. Who knows what a small act of kindness or encouraging word could do to change a life. The world is waiting. Let’s go!
Life Lesson: Apathy is not an option as a follower of Christ.
Dear God,
Thank You for Jesus and His love and obedience. Because of His active role in my redemption, I can know forgiveness and grace. In the same way that You were intentional in the salvation of man, may I be intentional in ministering to those around me. Fill me with Your Spirit and equip me to be a light in this dark world. In Jesus Christ Name! Amen!
May the LORD bless Nigeria, American and Israel and take care of us; May the LORD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

God’s Treasured Possession
Now if you obey me, and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.
Exodus 19:5-6
We know as Christians that we are bound by faith and not the law. Yet we know that the Ten Commandments and God’s law still hold an important place in our hearts, even if we’ve never stopped to contemplate this heavenly promise-the promise that those who obey God and keep the covenant of the Ten Commandments are “treasured possessions.”
The Lord has made other promises to us concerning the law. Psalms 19:7 says, “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.” If your soul is starting to flag and grow weary, if you are starting to feel overwhelmed and confused by the world, turn to the Lord’s ten simple laws, the commandments He put forth to His people on Mount Sinai all those centuries ago.
That’s why you must never think the Ten Commandments are obsolete. That’s why it is still important to study them today, to make them a part of your heart, so that you too may be the Lord’s “treasured possession.”

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
Matthew 25:35-36
Hope Lives
She lay in the palm of my hand-two months old, weighing less than three pounds. We rushed her from the stick house where her mother and siblings lived, to a medical clinic recently stocked with supplies. Only a couple of months ago, her limbs were thin as reeds, but today they are chubby and strong. The black circles under her eyes are gone. She smiles! She laughs! She lives, praise God, she lives!
Satan did not claim that little girl. But there are so many others who still need rescuing. There are so many other little ones that are as thin, weak and helpless as Elvira used to be. They need the things we take for granted every day.
Pray without ceasing for these children-the needy and the hurting. Give what you can so they might live and know of the love of the Father, for when we give a helping hand to “the least of these,” we help Christ Himself.

Got a Dime to Spare? God did not spare His Son Jesus Christ out of love for you
Written by Sheila Schuller Coleman
“He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also
with Him graciously give us all things?” -Romans 8:32
When I walk out of a store or restaurant, I am frequently stopped by those who ask,
“Got a dime to spare?” Because I’m wary of giving money to those who might use it to purchase unhealthy substances holding them hostage, I often purchase them a meal,
instead, or hand them a bag of peanuts with one of our “Hope Centre” cards stapled
to it. I encourage them to come on Monday for a hot meal, inspiration and encouragement,
a free haircut, and help with clothes, resumes, and substance abuse counselling.
At one recent Monday Meal, I met a man I’ll call “Rich” who came up to me and said,
“Pastor Sheila, I am your resident atheist.”
“Really? Well, I have good news for you, Rich. God believes in you even if you don’t
believe in Him. He loves you even if you don’t love Him.”
“I’ve told God that I’d believe in Him if I could see Him.'”
“Rich, take a look around. See Amanda over there cutting hair? See Hilda behind
the table serving the food? See Harold by the racks handing out the clothes? You
are seeing God in action through each one of them.”
Two weeks later when I ran into Rich again, he said, “Sheila, the word on the street
is that you love us.”
“Well, that’s true. But most importantly, God loves you.”
“I’m beginning to believe that.”
So, let’s look at that question, “Got a dime you can spare?” I’d like to challenge
you and ask you, “Got a life you can spare?”
God, who did not spare the life of his Son, asks us to give our lives to Him and
to serve Him – like Amanda, like Hilda, like Harold, like so many others who are
giving their lives to say through words and works, “God loves you and so do I!”
PRAYER:
Lord, when I am tempted to think You would withhold a blessing or a deliverance
from me, I am reminded that You have promised that You will not withhold anything
I need – not even Your Son’s death on the cross. What more do I need? Thank You,
Lord! Forgive me, Lord! Amen.
God did not spare His Son out of love for you. How does that make you feel?
