Proverbs_1-7: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction

Proverbs_1-7: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction

Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck.  Proverbs 1:8-9

Wise families fear and respect the Lord, and also commit themselves to obedience.

As parents, it’s important to teach your kids to obey you. Because this is how they will learn to obey God!

In the verses above, the word instruction is from a Hebrew word that includes the idea of counsel, warning, and correction. Dads, your role in the family is to be firm in instruction, to lay down reasonable rules and fair boundaries, and to give correction and fair discipline.

The word teaching in the verses above describes the work of a mom in the house. It’s a word that actually means coaxing or coaching. In other words, moms, your role in teaching is to push the kids a little bit like a mama bird with a nest full of little birds.

When it’s time for those baby birds to fly, the mama stirs up the nest, flaps her wings, and coaxes those little birds to elevate!

Parents, I want to ask you today, are you teaching your children to obey you? Furthermore, when your kids look at your life, can they see that you’re obeying your heavenly Father?

Wise families commit themselves to obedience.

Christian Home

INTRODUCTION:

The Christian family is an institution where parents are bound together by Christian love, where children are happy and instructed with the scriptures, where the Lord Jesus is the Head and where parents and children gather daily for worship. A Christian family is one that radiates Christ, welcomes strangers and dispenses hospitality.

  1. WHAT IS THE DUTY OF THE FATHER?

God has placed the husband as the head of the home. –

Ephesians_5-25: Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it

Ephesians_5-25: Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it

Ephesians 5:23

For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

The Christian husband must always put God first in his life.

Luke 14:26

If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

He must love his wife, children and must love Christ more.

He is the priest of the family and responsible to establish a family altar for daily worship.

  1. WHAT IS THE DUTY OF THE MOTHER?

One or two loving women have made many men great, a godly mother or a devoted wife is a tremendous asset. She is to serve Jesus Christ, show love, obey her husband.

Ephesians 5:22

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord

The woman is not to be adorned with ornaments only, instead, wives are to be adorned with good works, a meek and quiet spirit.

1 Peter 3:4-5

Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 5 For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands

 Must be trustworthy.

WHAT IS THE DUTY OF THE CHILDREN?

Children are to honour their parents

Exodus 20:12

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

Obey them

Luke 2:51

And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

And pray for them

They must also return their parent’s love. Children of today shall be the parents of tomorrow.-

Galatians 6:7

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

CONCLUSION:

The secret of a successful Christian home is in the family altar where Christ is the crowned as Head of the home. Love is the second secret. Fathers and mothers should always remember that we are all children with a loving Father above, who constantly demonstrates His love. –

Hebrews. 12:6

For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

Jesus Does not Respond To Us Based On What We Deserve To Get

Ephesians_6-1: Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right

Ephesians_6-1: Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right

A wise friend once said to me, “If you give your kids only what they deserve, you will rob them of a healthy life. Don’t give them what they deserve; give them what they need. Just like Jesus does for us!”

Deuteronomy_6-7: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Deuteronomy_6-7: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Raising Godly Children. Parenting With Grace

Jesus doesn’t respond to us based on what we deserve to get. He responds based on what we need. He provides for our needs even though we are undeserving. He died for us while we were still in rebellion against him. He allows us to grow. He doesn’t force us to clean up our act before he comes into our lives. He meets our needs and gives us the grace and the space to grow.

When I thought about how difficult it was to see my kids develop some troubling characteristics, even belligerence and rebellion, I suddenly saw the parallel with our Father God and all of his children. Every one of us is rebellious. We pout. We shout “No!” in our spirits. We sneak around doing what we know we ought not to do. And yet He accepts us wherever we are. He refuses to abandon us or give us what we so richly deserve; he pours great rivers of (amazing) grace into our lives. As David marveled,

He Does Not Treat Us As Our Sins Deserve

Or Repay Us According To Our Iniquities.

For As High As The Heavens Are Above The Earth,

So Great Is His Love For Those Who Fear Him;

As Far As The East Is From The West,

So Far Has He Removed Our Transgressions From Us.

As A Father Has Compassion On His Children,

So The Lord Has Compassion On Those Who Fear Him.

(Psalm 103:10-13)

Thinking about the grace of God will help you become a grace giver to your children. Their imperfections help you to see your own. Accepting them as they are helps you to taste the wonder of how God accepts you as you are.
