Divine Accomplishment. Strategies for Overcoming Distractions.

1-John_4-4: Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7, JOSHUA 1:8

INTRODUCTION:

In the last two weeks we began a study on ‘understanding Distractions’ flowing from our study of the series on ‘KNOWING GOD’. In order to stay on course after the knowledge of who God is to us as believers, it is important that we deal with the issue of distractions which was dealt with in our first study in this series.

In order to live out our relationship with God as his children in an acceptable manner after knowing Him, we have learned that it is possible for us to get distracted and lose focus on him through worldly values and Satan strategies as we see in the story of Martha and Mary in Luke 10:38 and several others scriptures; and last week we learned of the need to prioritize matters by seeking first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. Matthew 6:33. Tonight we shall be continuing in our series ‘UNDERSTANDING DISTRACTIONS’ by looking at the topic ‘STRATEGIES FOR OVERCOMING DISTRACTIONS’.

Outline 1: Prayer and Mindfulness – Staying Focused on God

1. Prayer as a weapon against distraction:

A) We must pray without ceasing and must never faint. 1 Thes 5:17 and Luke 18:1

B) Prayer brings peace and re-centers our hearts on God, helping us avoid the noise of worry and fear. Phil 4:6-7

C) Cast all your cares upon him 1 Peter 5:7

D) Praying in tongues helps to get rid of distractions. Jude 1:20

E) Cultivate the habit of Daily devotion to align with God’s will and staying focused on God. Luke 5:16, Mark 1:35

PRACTICAL WAYS TO HELP WITH PRAYERS:

A) Set your alarm during the day for prayers

B) Intentionally build a prayer routine

C) Cultivate the routine which helps you to focus more on God

D) You must get to a point where God begins to speak to you.

2. Mindfulness

What is mindfulness? It is the state or quality of being mindful or aware of something.

A) Cultivating awareness of God’s presence allows you to refocus whenever distractions come. Always put the Lord before you in the face of adversity and you will never be shaken. Psalms 16:8

B) Practice pausing during the day to reorient your mind to God’s presence. You can have some words of assurance on your device that will pop up at set times to remind you of God’s presence and his loving kindness to you.

Psalms 26:3, 36:10, 89:33,103:4

C) You can set your device with messages like:

• “Stop, breathe, God is with you”- in anxiety or confusion

• “God is with me, I shall not fail” – fear of failure

• “Jesus loves me, I am not alone” -feeling lonely

Outline 2: Scripture

Meditation – Staying Focused on God’s Truth

1. Focusing on God’s Truth

A) Meditating on God’s truth sets free from worry, anxiety and satan’s lies. John 8:44c. Our focus should be on things that are good Phil 4:8

B) God’s Word provides clarity and guidance. Psalms 119:105

C) Scripture meditation clears confusion amid troubles, dissolves doubt and guides decisions. John 14:1, John 14:27

D) Memorize key verses to recall in moments of distraction. Psalms 119:11

E) Meditating on the word of God brings transformation unto prosperity and good success. Joshua 1:8

Outline 3: Community and Accountability – Staying Focused through Others

1. The power of fellowship keeps you focused.

A) There is power in fellowshipping with others as it encourages us to stay committed to God despite distractions. Hebrews 10:24–25 NLT

B) Staying in fellowship groups, helps us to commune together, share experiences, worries and anxieties and helps us to stay focused on God. Eccl 4:12NLT

2. Accountability strengthens focus on God

A) Being accountable to a group or fellowship helps to avoid distractions and strengthen our focus on God. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10

B) Issues causing distractions could be viewed from the perspective of another group member who can give wise counsel. Proverbs 11:14

C) Being in the company of trusted believers helps us recognize when distractions are pulling us away. 2 Samuel 12:1-13

Conclusion:

In overcoming distractions, we must be very intentional with the strategies we adopt as we have learned today. Without intentionality, it may be very difficult to focus on God. Remember, Prayer and mindfulness will help us to center our hearts on God, meditation on Scripture will aid us to fill our minds with the truth of God’s word and surrounding ourselves with godly community for encouragement and accountability will do us a lot of good. As we engage with these strategies daily and with the help of the Holy Spirit, we remain steadfast and fruitful in our walk with God. Col 3:2: says “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” May the Lord help us in Jesus name! Amen!

People aren’t really ready to hear the truth about working in hospitality. On the surface, it may look like a regular job — serving food, smiling at guests, and clocking in and out. But behind that smile is a person who’s often physically exhausted, mentally drained, and emotionally worn out.

Growing up, I was vibrant, outspoken, full of life. But working in hospitality stripped a lot of that away from me. You constantly have to dim your light, lower your voice, and reduce yourself just to make others comfortable — just to please customers who often don’t see the human behind the service. And it’s not just the guests — the management can be even worse. They push you, frustrate you, and you’re left with no choice but to accept whatever is thrown at you because the fear of losing your job is always looming.

Yes, you may be making money — but what’s money when you don’t even have the time or energy to enjoy it? You’re lucky if you get one full day off a week. Even on your “off” days, all you want to do is sleep and recover, because shifts are long, draining, and demanding. Standing for hours, dealing with rude guests, running up and down — it takes a toll on your body. No matter how well you eat before a shift, exhaustion catches up. Sometimes, you end up eating scraps or leftovers from tables just to make it through.

And let’s not forget the environment — working late nights, inhaling second-hand smoke from customers, dealing with drunken behavior, and trying to stay professional in the middle of chaos. Over time, it chips away at your self-worth and your health.

I could go on and on about my experience in this industry. The nightlife and hospitality scene might look glamorous from the outside, but if you value your mental and physical well-being, it’s not a place to stay for too long. It teaches you resilience, yes — but it can also break you in ways people don’t see.

Father, every wicked king, every wicked ruler and every wicked leader that has taken counsel together against the Lord and against his anointed saying let us break their bands asunder and cast away their cords from Nigeria, laugh at them and have them in derision, speak to them in your wrath in Jesus name. Ps. 2:1-5.
Father, let your wind blow and blow away all the wicked leaders out of this nation Nigeria in Jesus name.

PRAYER FOR NATIONS AND CONTINENTS- OUTSIDE NIGERIA.

INTRODUCTION: Despite all failed attempts of the world leaders at solving the multifaceted and multiracial challenges the world is currently facing, yet, they vehemently opposed to the inclusion of God factor in their equation. As we pray, the Almighty God will take over all the continents of the world and he will restore lasting peace in Jesus name.

Contend For Their Souls: The Power of Intercessory Prayer

Contend For Their Souls

Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God (Colossians 4:12).

What do you do when you observe people in church who aren’t living right or who don’t come to church anymore? Rather than lament the situation or become judgemental of them, intercede in prayer for them until they are restored. Contend for their souls in prayer. Every soul is valuable to God, and the Bible says His desire is for all to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.

Its part of the reasons pastors and leaders should be careful how they treat and handle those who come to church. Some can be harsh and don’t mind doing things that drive people out of the church. But when you’re a true soul winner, you’re different because you understand what it takes to win even one soul and will do everything it takes to keep them retained.

Many times, I’ve cried over a soul; I kept interceding until the person came to Christ or was restored back in the Faith. This is why we must pray ahead, at the right time, in the right way, and for the right things. When we do that, we win. Churches must prioritize time for intercessory prayer.

Epaphras, in our opening scripture, wasn’t praying for his own needs; he was praying for others. He was an intercessor. He was already walking in the glory of God, but he was praying for others to walk in it as well, to come into the fullness of God’s plan for their lives.

This is what you must do every day as well. Intercede for others, for the eyes of their understanding to be opened to the realities of God’s Kingdom and be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. Hallelujah!

Dear Father, I pray for those who have strayed from the truth, that they’d be restored quickly, and that their affections will be on the things of the Spirit, never languid or dull, but fervent in spirit, serving you wholeheartedly, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Praying with Groanings and Deep Sighs: A Higher Level of Intercession

Psalms_51-11: Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

Praying With Groanings And Deep Sighs

Likewise THE SPIRIT ALSO HELPETH OUR INFIRMITIES: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered (Romans 8:26).

When we speak in tongues, we do so by faith. We open our mouths and the Holy Spirit gives us utterance. Here, your spirit is praying in tongues. The Bible says, “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful” (1 Corinthians 14:14). So, it’s your spirit that prays in tongues even though the utterance is granted to your spirit by the Holy Spirit.

But there’s another one that’s a higher level of prayer. That’s what is written for us in Romans 8:26 which we read as our opening scripture. The underlined phrase “… the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities…” tells us how the Spirit helps and takes hold together with us in our weakness. He props you up and helps you pray in line with the perfect will of God especially when you face dire situations and are at your wit’s end. He takes over and helps you pray correctly.

The AMPC puts it beautifully. It says, “So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weakness; for we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads in our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.” At this higher level of prayer, the Holy Spirit Himself has taken over, making intercessions with groanings and deep sighs according to the will of God.

You may find yourself crying uncontrollably but not out of pain; keep at it and don’t be troubled. It’s the Holy Spirit praying through you. This is the most effective kind of prayer, and it’s the Spirit’s joy to make it happen for you. So, each time you pray, yield yourself to the Holy Spirit to pray through you, and you’ll be amazed at the impact and the tremendous results in your life and circumstances. Hallelujah!

PRAYER / CONFESSION

Dear Father, thank you for the ministry of the Holy Spirit who helps me in prayer. I yield myself completely to Him to intercede through me with groanings and deep sighs, causing your perfect will to be established in my life and in the lives of others. I walk in the light of your Word, always led by the Spirit, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

GOOD MORNING DEARLY AMIABLE CHILD OF GOD. WELCOME TO THIS GLORIOUS DAY THE LORD HAS MADE. WE WILL REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT! AMEN. BELOVETH, IT SHALL BE UNTO YOU A NEW BEGINNING FOR YOU IN JESUS NAME.

Dear friend, I specially welcome you to this day. By the authority and power in the Word of God, I decree a New Beginning in any area you failed or lost hope in Jesus name.

One of the implication of this Name is that being THE BEGINNING, you can have the power to start anything God wants you to do in Jesus name.

Many fail or remain where they have always been, not because they do not know what to do, but because they lack the power to start. Some have brilliant ideas that could turn around their lives; but they cannot go beyond that point.

Some are afraid to leave where they are for the new place or assignment God has sent them. You need to be introduced to THE BEGINNING. He will give you the power to start. That power is stronger than fear. It is stronger than any weaknesses or limitation.

Have you faced severe challenges in taking a new appointment, assignment or starting a new business? Friend, you are not alone. When a messenger is promoted to become the commander-in -chief, the fellow will face challenges. After the death of Moses, God told Joshua, Moses’ messenger, that he was now to take on the mantle of leadership millions of Israelites [JOSHUA 1:1-9].

Even though Moses had earlier prayed for him, he did not receive the news in good faith. How can a messenger suddenly become the father of a nation? What of the 70 elders and all the other leaders under Moses? Joshua was afraid.

Some promotions can cause fear. In fact, some people have refused to accept certain promotions because they are afraid. Some think they cannot cope. Some think envious colleagues could kill them on that seat. But all they need is THE BEGINNING.

When you see yourself in such a situation, call on THE BEGINNING to reveal Himself to you and see you through. The time to turn down big openings from God Almighty has passed. THE BEGINNING is with you.

Beloveth, fear not to go into that marriage partnership with that brother or sister. It is the Lord, not your flesh, friend or relative has led you. He will give the courage and make all provisions available for you to succeed. Ask the Alpha to reveal Himself as The Beginning to you from today. Whatever you do this new season, let THE BEGINNING guide you in Jesus name.

Dear amiable beloved, spend quality time thanking God for seeing this month and the remaining months in this year.
