Small But Powerful.

Matthew_18-18: Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven

“Another parable put He forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.” Mathew 13: 31-32

The interesting thing about the kingdom of heaven is that many times, it comes in an insignificant form and as a result it is not often regarded. Notice the progression in our text for today. The mustard seed is so small that you will scarcely notice it in a plate. Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven like a mustard seed that was sown. Though it is the least of all seeds but when it grows, it becomes the greatest.

Please stop looking at your present condition. Yes you are small in your eyes and the eyes of others but you are very powerful. Just as the small mustard seed became so big to become a lodging place for the birds of the air, what God had deposited in you will burst out to become a blessing to your generation. He still uses the foolish things to confound the wise, weak things to confound the mighty and base things and things that are despised and are not to bring to naught things that are.

Yes you are small but powerful because the Greater One dwells in you.

God Cannot Lie.

Mark_9-23-1: Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth

Hebrews_11-6: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11

One thing you must settle deep within you is that God cannot lie (Number 23:19); God magnifies His words above His name (Psalm 138:2); His covenant He will never break nor alter what has gone out of His mouth (Psalm 89:34).

The text today tells us that His word does not return void but shall accomplish what He pleases and prospers in whatever He sent it. Therefore when you declare the word of God in faith over your circumstance, you don’t have to doubt. Yes at times it appears as if nothing is changing. You must ignore what you are seeing or the symptoms you may be experiencing with a knowing that the word will not return void. Keep declaring it and you will certainly see the word prevailing over the challenges.

Be fully persuaded that He is able to do that which He has promised you because He is God and controls all things by the word of His power.

God still hastens His word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12). Get ready for your manifestation.

Draw from Jesus.

John_11-25: Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live

Romans_5-17: For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ

“But He said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.” John 4:32

 
When demands are made on you and people pull from you on all sides you will obviously be tired and stressed up because of human limitation. On the contrary when we pull from Jesus, we are nourished, strengthened and refreshed. The reason is because He is God and not man and so He welcomes it when we take our place as man before Him and let Him be the God that He is. Without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5b). He enjoys it when we let Him minister to us.

 
Our text today is an account of what took place after Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well. His disciples left Him there tired and wearied but were surprised to see Him refreshed when they got back and wondered who gave Him food to eat. Apparently ministering to that woman nourished and refreshed Him.

 
When you draw from Jesus and let Him minister to you, it becomes food to you; that nourishes you. Stop trying to minister to yourself like the Pharisees who failed to receive from Him. Humble yourself before Him and let Him know you desperately need Him every moment.

Come to Him with all your needs; draw strength and grace from Him, He has abundance and He is waiting for you.

Why Should I Sing?

Psalms_98-4: Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise .Thank You Jesus

Psalms_108-3: I will praise thee, O LORD, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations

“Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.” Isaiah 54:1

I can understand it when I sing because things are all right for me in every area of life – I have a good job, I am married and I have children. My business is doing fine; I have passed my exams with distinction. These and many more are good reasons to sing.

However, If the reverse is the case and the instruction still remains to break forth into singing as the text today suggests, it is a paradox.

God, however, can never be confused when He instructed us through His ancient prophet to sing. Why should we sing? You will notice that in the preceding chapter 53, He made it clear that “surely He hath borne our grief and carried our sorrows” (Isaiah 53:4a). He had already taken care of your pains, your disfigurement and everything wrong with you. He had paid the full price for your sin and everything that came with sin – sickness, disease, frustration, barrenness, poverty etc.

Since this is true, then you have every reason to sing, dance and believe that it is time for your deliverance and everything the devil is throwing at you now is just a smoke screen. When that is settled in your heart, you will sing and dance not from compulsion but from conviction and the result is that you will see the manifestation.

Beloved, I encourage you to start singing and dancing now. Worship Him for what He has promised and you will see the result.

Blessing Of The New Covenant.

Proverbs_10-22: The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it

Ephesians_1-3. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

“This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbour, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more“ Hebrews 8:10-12

The fall of man has so much blinded a good number of people with the result that they have failed to see all that God has done for us in the new covenant. Under the old covenant the focus is on man. We are told all that we were supposed to do without the ability to do them. Thou shall not – thou shall not – thou shall not. It is all about our performance, obedience and works. But, notice our text day which is a new covenant, God says:

 
I will put my laws in their minds

 
I will be their God

 
I will be merciful to their unrighteousness

 
Their sins and iniquities I will remember no more

 
Notice that under this covenant, it is not you but God working for you, in you and through you (Philippians 2:13). Your part is only to believe what He said He would do and you will see your faith explode. Today, stop focusing on what you will do for God. Focus on what He has done for you and let His love flow through you and you will see yourself manifest His love to your world. Don’t start with works, start with a genuine love for God and the works will follow.

There Is Hope For You.

Psalms_31-24-2: Be of good courage, and he shall strenghten your heart: all ye that hope in the Lord. God Is All Powerful

Jeremiah_17-7-2: Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

“Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even today do I declare that I will render double unto thee;” Zechariah 9:12

Your case is not hopeless no matter how bad it may look. Yes, men may have given up completely on you and even you might have given up on yourself; but God has not given up on you. The Bible calls you a prisoner of hope. In other words, no matter what area the enemy is holding you, there is a way out and so your coming out is guaranteed. Hope in the Bible is confident expectation of good things happening to you.

When the brothers of Joseph sold him to slavery in Egypt they never gave him a chance. But he was a prisoner of hope and so his destiny was never aborted like Job who decided that all the days of his appointed time will he wait until his change comes (Job 14:14), Joseph waited in faith and saw his change. Also like I said earlier, Job believed that his change would come and he lived to see it. He did not see his case as hopeless. Hear him – I know my Redeemer liveth (Job 19:25), when He hath tried me I shall come forth as gold Job 23:10.

Those were words of a hopeful man. When David lost the child he had with Bathsheba he stopped pleading and started worshipping God because he trusted in the mercies of God 2 Samuel 12:15-20. God later blessed him and Bathsheba with another son named Solomon who became the wisest and the richest King the world has ever known, 2 Samuel 12:24.

I don’t know how low you may have fallen or how hopeless your case may be; or is there an area you think is beyond remedy in your life or family, I come to you today to announce to you that there is hope for you. God has something great and precious for you as you hope on to Him.

God’s Goodness in the Evil.

Psalms_23-4-1: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

“And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.” Mathew 2:13

 
Many times the activities of the devil overwhelm you and you, unconsciously, reduce God to your level thinking that He is wondering what to do or how to get you out of the situation. Contrary to that popular view, I have come to announce to you that God does not react to what the devil does. Rather it is the devil out of panic that reacts to what God had done. Whenever you see the devil on rampage, calm down and look closely, you will discover that God has scored another goal. The bible is laced with this truth.

 
Ever before Jesus was born, God had spoken concerning His birth and the challenges that will happen at His birth and throughout the story of the birth of Jesus, a phrase is very common “that is might be fulfilled what was spoken by the mouth of…” And the gap is filled by different prophets of old who were even dead long before Jesus was born. So you see God knew it all ahead of time, the person that is panicked and acts in fear is the dead. Interesting, even what the devil will do, is already known to God and He has gone ahead to make a way. What a mighty God we serve!

 
When Jesus Christ was born, soldiers were sent to kill all the baby boys under the age of two in Bethlehem. Everyone then in Bethlehem would have seen only evil. Others like Mary saw God’s goodness because they knew that God has sent a saviour into the world. The mayhem was satan’s reaction to the gift of salvation sent by God.

 
Today I want you to realize that whatever the devil is throwing at you, it is an attempt by the devil to pervert and reverse what God has already done. I can assure you that something good is coming out of your situation. Don’t see the evil; see the good that God is already doing.

Let Go of That Bitterness.

Luke_6-37: Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven

“And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.” Exodus 15:26

After crossing the Red Sea, God’s people came to a place called Marah where the waters were bitter. Marah means bitter and that explains why the waters were bitter. The people cried to the Lord and there the Lord made the water sweet so that they could drink it. Thereafter God brought up the subject of the diseases of Egypt and revealed Himself as “the Lord that healeth thee” why the sudden mention of the disease of the world (Egypt represented the world) at the place called “bitter” what has diseases got to do with bitter water?

 
God intends for us to know that one of the major causes of diseases in our bodies is harbouring resentment, bitterness and unforgiveness. You will be surprised how many are sick and how many are already dead because of bitterness inside them. Bitterness, resentment and unforgiveness will kill you if you refused to deal with it now.
If you are bitter about something or someone, it is time to let go. Why must you follow the pathway of suicide because of what someone did to you? Your future is too colourful for you to let bitterness destroy it. I encourage you to let it go and receive the sweetness that Jesus gives today. As you do, God will turn every bitter situation in your life around and make your life sweet in Jesus’ name.

Obey And Serve God.

Psalms_28-7: The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

Psalms_37-5: Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

“If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.” Job 36:11

 
There are benefits available to those who obey and serve the Lord. Notice what today’s text says “They shall spend their days in prosperity and their years in pleasures” How does that grab you? I am sure you truly want that. That is the desired haven everyone wants; but the question is how many people are willing to pay the price for it? How many people are willing to obey God totally, and serve Him even when it does not make sense? When this question is asked, everyone is quick to say yes; but stop and think about it – are you truly willing to say yes to God at any time regardless of what He demands of you?

 
God is seeking for His true worshippers who worship Him in spirit and in truth. Today we have a clientele of believers who have compromised their faith and have figured out how God is to be served even when they are violating the scriptures. The truth is that you cannot explain off your compromise and expect God to endorse it. Compromise is compromise, no matter the excuse. God always means what He says and says what He means and His commandments are not grievous.

 
In Genesis 26:1-6 Notice the dealings of God with Isaac when he wanted to escape because of famine to Egypt. God told him not to go down to Egypt and he obeyed. In Genesis 26:12-14 – Notice how he sowed in the same dry land and God blessed him beyond his expectation. If you make up your mind to obey God no matter what, God will prosper you.

3 Dimensional Wickedness.

Romans_12-2: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God

MESSAGE :

 
The title of today’s devotion invites us to have a three dimensional view of wickedness as we consider today’s Bible reading and memory verse. If we only glance at this passage superficially, we will not see what God is showing us or get a good enough grasp of the message it contains. According to our memory verse, you will notice that Adam and Eve based their decision squarely on feelings to the exclusion of the Spirit of God that was resident in them. They found the forbidden fruit to be good for food and therefore for the nourishment of the body. Since it was pleasant to the eyes they thought it will satisfy the longing of the soul, and make one wise, hereby satisfying a human’s egoistic ambition to be like God. These are indeed the three dimensions of wickedness that led to the fall. The first human beings abused their God-given freedom by these rebellious acts against God.

The Word of God in 2 Corinthians 11 : 3 says ;
“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”

 
The above passage shows that the fall of Adam and Eve was not out of ignorance, but due to carelessness and a carefree attitude towards the devil.

First, they were familiar with the devil to the point of having a rapport with him.

Secondly, they were reasoning with the devil on his terms without any recourse for God or His commandments.

Thirdly, they were so relaxed, they didn’t realize they were being setup for destruction by the devil.

Unfortunately, the Church of the 21st century seems not to have learnt any lesson from this example, as we currently exhibit worse simplicity and complacency than that which got Adam and Eve into trouble. Christians now accommodate and even defend those sins that were specifically condemned in the Bible.

Will you dance with the devil or STAND FOR JESUS?

PRAYER POINT : Father, I refuse to fall for any form of three dimensional wickedness, please help me to stand firm in You.
