SET YOUR AFFECTION ON HEAVEN

Matthew_6-20: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

TEXT: Colossians 3: 1-17.

 
INTRODUCTION:

A child of God is a different being because he is dead yet alive. He is dead to the affairs of this world but alive to God. He is expected to set his mind on things which are above. Col 3: 1-3.

 
HOW CAN WE SET AFFECTION ON HEAVEN?

 
(i) Abstain from fleshly lusts. 1 Pet 2: 11.

 
(ii) With the help of the Holy Spirit, mortify the deeds of the body. Col 3: 5-8; Rom 8: 13.

 
(iii) Putting on the new man. Col 3: 9-12.

 
(iv) Forbearing and forgiving one another. Col 3: 13.

 
(v) Live holy. Rom 12: 1-2; Heb 12: 14.

 
(vi) Be obedient. 1 Sam 15: 22; Jos 1: 7-8.

 
(vii) By praises and worship. Jn 4: 23-24

 
CONCLUSION:

Our heavenly father requires constant fellowship with us even while we are still in this world, which often starts with appreciation of all about Him. It is therefore necessary to set our affection in Heaven, if we must make it to the end.

ETERNAL REWARDS

Hebrews_11-6: But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him

Revelation_22-12: And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be

TEXT: 1 Corinthians 9: 16-27.

 
INTRODUCTION:

God has a reward for all that make it to the kingdom. We shall one day cross to the other side where we shall have exceeding and eternal weight of glory. 2 Cor 4: 17.

 
THE REWARDS
Jesus Christ has prepared crowns for rulers in His coming kingdom. These crowns and their qualifications are:

 
– The crown of life. Jam 1: 12. To qualify for this, you must have endured temptation and remain faithful. Other qualifications include overcoming evil, loving the Lord and being faithful unto death. Rev 2: 10.

 
– The incorruptible crown. 1 Cor 9: 24-25. This is for those who patiently run the race to Heaven and who are temperate in all things.

 
– The Crown of rejoicing. 1 Thess 2: 19. You must be a soul winner to receive this crown.

 
– The crown of glory. 1 Pet 5: 4. A crown for true pastors, missionaries and teachers.

 
– The crown of righteousness. 2 Tim 4: 8. It is for those expecting the Lord. They are earnestly waiting for His coming.

 
– Other types of rewards include

Reign with Christ. Rom 18: 17-18;

Behold His face. Ps 17: 15; Rev 22: 4;

Inherit all things. Rev 21: 7;

Shine as star. Dan 12: 3;

Be pillar in the temple of God. Rev 3: 12;

Have access to the tree of life. Rev 22: 1-5; Rev 22: 14.

 
CONCLUSION:

Knowing that we have this wonderful rewards in serving God, what manner of people should we be? 1 Jn 3: 2-3.

GET INTO GOD’S MISSION PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE

Acts_2-38: Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

TEXT: Romans 15: 16-21.

 
INTRODUCTION:

Unless you get into mission, you will not be part of mission. To get involved means getting ready to pay the price of the task. It means being unmoved and undaunted in the pursuit. It means seeing clearly the devil’s bonds on the people and becoming angry at such bonds.

 
HOW TO GET INTO GOD’S MISSION PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE?

 
(a) Develop burden and compassion for souls. Such burden should serve as drive to propel you into mission. Mk 6: 34; Rom 10: 1

 
(b) Pray continuously for the sustenance, initiative, strength, and progress of the mission work. Isa 62: 1-2; Lk 18: 7-8.

 
(c) The more you pray the more you have rewards and success. Jn 3: 27; 2 Cor 10: 3.

 
(d) Wait for God’s directives. The moment the instructions come, do not delay, get into action. Visit, assist and support mission work.

 
(e) After you have received the instruction and you have acted, pray again and continue to sustain the burden for more souls to be won for Christ.

 
CONCLUSION:

Be involved in God’s mission plans for souls.

Prayer point:
Father in the mighty name of Jesus, all those who has written me off, give them a big surprise

2. Don’t write yourself off, this is more dangerous than people writing you off. Don’t even agree with any doctors report because they are not your maker- Mark 5:1-20,25-34, Mark 10:46-52. As long as you can still pray, there is hope

Prayer Point
Father in the mighty name of Jesus, this very day, turn my situations around, you’re the hope of the hopeless

3. The widow didn’t know that help was coming, but help was coming on the way

Decree
For someone here tonight, help is on the way, get ready for a surprise

Psalm 46:1, Isaiah 41:10-13

Prophecy:
God said those and everything blocking your way, blocking the answers to your prayers, you will look for them, but you won’t even find them Because it is written, it is settled, help is on the way –Psalm 121:1-2

Prayer Point
Father, please send help to me urgently

4. All that God was expecting from the widow was that she will believe God and believe His prophet, you too must believe God and believe His prophet- 2 Chronicles 20:20, Numbers 23:19, 1 Samuel 3:19

Decree:
In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, this will be your year of surprises

Prayer Point:
Father in the mighty name of Jesus, all Your promises concerning me, fulfill them now

5. The widow had a surprise everyday for many days, you can also experience pleasant surprises everyday, because it is written- Mathew 6:9-11, Psalm 68:19, Lamentation 3:22-23, Psalm 118:24

Decree:
For the rest of your life, on a daily basis, you will get surprises

Prayer Point
Father in the mighty name of Jesus, give me pleasant surprises on a daily basis from this moment onward to the glory of your name

Conclusion :
God expectations from us:
Hebrews 11: 6- Be willing to serve God diligently – Psalm 34:1, just like the widow, be willing to do Gods business, so God will also do yours. Go out and win souls, John 15:16

Prayer Point for Offering:
Father, from this day onward, every door shut against my prosperity, I compel them to open now

WHY SHOULD I BE INVOLVED IN MISSIONS?

John_15-16: Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you

Matthew_28-19-3: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost

TEXT: 2 Corinthians 5: 17-20.

INTRODUCTION:
Should I be involved in missions? Yes. But why? Answering this question will be our focus today.

REASONS WHY I SHOULD BE INVOLVED IN MISSIONS?

(a) You should be involved because it is God’s commandment. Jn 17: 18; Mk 16: 15-20.

(b) You should be involved because the salvation of mankind is paramount in the mind of God.

(c) Because God demonstrated His search for the lost people of Nineveh who were ignorant of His salvation programme, we too should be involved. Jonah 4: 10-11.

(d) Because God is our father, we should be deeply involved in our father’s enterprises – the salvation business. Lk 15: 3-7.

(e) Because God delights in all souls, He wants them all saved.

CONCLUSION: Be involved in missions.

Whatever else You need to do so that forever our joy will be full, Father do it today.

In the passage we read, several things happen to Joshua but we will limit ourselves to 5

1. He heard the voice of God for the first time. When God speaks, things happen, Gen 1:3, Mark 2:1-12, Mark 5:35-42, John 11:39-44
John 11:39-44 – Hopeless situation changed by God’s spoken Word

Prayer:
Father! This very day, please speak a word into my situations in Jesus name

What are the things God said to Him?

2. God said to him, that He is about to change his destiny. Gen 15:1-5, Mathew 3:9, Gen 17:15-17, 2 Kings 17:8-end, 2 Kings 4:8-37

Prayer:
Father! If there’s any evil in my destiny, please change it today in Jesus name

3. God said to Him, that he will never know failure. It is a terrible thing to fail. Philip 4:13, Mark 11:23. When God speaks to the life of a failure, he will become an instant success. Luke 5:1-7, John 5:2-9

Prayer:
Father! Please hear my cry; don’t let me ever know failure again for the rest of my life

4. God said to him, Joshua, you will never suffer defeat. God has various ways of dealing with your enemy. Numbers 16:26-34, Exodus 14:21-28, Joshua 10:10-11, 2 Chronicles 20:20-25.

Prayer:
Father! Please fight my battles for me. Don’t let me be ever be defeated again in Jesus name

5. God made him a promise that is bigger than any promise. He said I will be with you. Exodus 3:11-12, 1 Samuel 17:34-end, Psalm 23:4. When God is with you what others cannot achieve will be easy for you. Joshua case was different because God was with him.

Prayer:
Father! Please be with me so that my own will be different for the rest of my life.

In conclusion
What is it the then that God requires of me so that my destiny will be guarantee?. What must I do so that He can be with me?

1. He told Joshua, Be strong Proverbs 28:1. Your success does not depend on the economy of Nigeria. Your promotion is not dependent on anybody

2. Be addicted to the world of God. Meditate on the word of God day and night

3. Be a doer of the word of God.

Prayer for Offering:
Father, in the Name of Jesus, I hereby decree, very soon, I will be lending to Nations in Jesus name.

Conclusion:
Christ demonstrated humility while on earth. Philippians 2:1-11.
God expects us to do the same thing.

Clay In Potter’s Hand

Isaiah_64-8: But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand

Text:
Jeremiah 18:1-6
The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

Introduction:
God is the potter while we are the clay. He decides what He wants to use the clay to mold. The clay does not have a say in what the potter intends to use the clay to mold. God, the Chief Potter, can turn ordinary clay to a beautiful piece through His divine master piece.

What Does It Take To Be God’s Master Piece?

1. You Must Be Ready To Be A Raw Material Ie The Clay,
Jeremiah 18:4-6
And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

2. You Must Be Broken Down For The Potter (GOD) To Remold You To The Form And Fashion, He Desires.

Isaiah 29:16
You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay! Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, “You did not make me”? Can the pot say to the potter, “You know nothing”?

3. You Must Be Prepared To Go Through The Various Stages Of Molding And Remolding.

Isaiah 64:8
Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

4. Don’t Allow God To Regret His Efforts In Making You What He Has Made You To Be.

Isaiah 45:9
“Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, ‘What are you making?’ Does your work say, ‘The potter has no hands’?

5. You Must Know That God Can Break You Down Again To An Ordinary Clay If You Disappointed Him.

Romans 9:20
But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?'”

6. Don’t Allow God To Break You Down To An Ordinary Clay, Because It Could Be Regrettable.

Jeremiah 18:6
He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the LORD. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel.

Conclusion:

As clay in the potter’s hand, be ready to be what He wants you to be.
