Speak The Truth
John_8-32: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John_14-6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me
Text:
James 3:1-12
My friends, not many of you should become teachers. As you know, we teachers will be judged with greater strictness than others.
2 All of us often make mistakes. But if a person never makes a mistake in what he says, he is perfect and is also able to control his whole being.
3 We put a bit into the mouth of a horse to make it obey us, and we are able to make it go where we want.
4 Or think of a ship: big as it is and driven by such strong winds, it can be steered by a very small rudder, and it goes wherever the pilot wants it to go.
5 So it is with the tongue: small as it is, it can boast about great things. Just think how large a forest can be set on fire by a tiny flame!
6 And the tongue is like a fire. It is a world of wrong, occupying its place in our bodies and spreading evil through our whole being. It sets on fire the entire course of our existence with the fire that comes to it from hell itself.
7 We humans are able to tame and have tamed all other creatures—wild animals and birds, reptiles and fish.
8 But no one has ever been able to tame the tongue. It is evil and uncontrollable, full of deadly poison.
9 We use it to give thanks to our Lord and Father and also to curse other people, who are created in the likeness of God.
10 Words of thanksgiving and cursing pour out from the same mouth. My friends, this should not happen!
11 No spring of water pours out sweet water and bitter water from the same opening.
12 A fig tree, my friends, cannot bear olives; a grapevine cannot bear figs, nor can a salty spring produce sweet water.
Introduction:
The tongue is a powerful organ of the body. It is so powerful that death and life, falsehood and truth proceed from it. Every true child of God is expected to speak the truth from his or her heart in order to be successful and victorious.
Characteristics Of A Lying Tongue
1. It speaks deception and projects destruction and mischief.
Psalm 52:2
You who practice deceit, your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor.
2. It exhibits craftiness and evil devises.
Jeremiah 18:18
They said, “Come, let’s make plans against Jeremiah; for the teaching of the law by the priest will not cease, nor will counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophets. So come, let’s attack him with our tongues and pay no attention to anything he says.”
3. It spreads lies and iniquity uncontrollably.
Psalm 120:2
Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.
4. It is controlled by evil forces.
John 8:44
You are the children of your father, the Devil, and you want to follow your father’s desires. From the very beginning he was a murderer and has never been on the side of truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he is only doing what is natural to him, because he is a liar and the father of all lies.
5. It defiles man.
Matthew 15:18
But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these are the things that make you ritually unclean.
6. It set traps for the innocent.
James 3:6

7. Its end is in hell fire.

8. It flatters, backbites and promotes wickedness.
Psalm 5:9
Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with malice. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they tell lies.
Proverbs 25:23
As surely as a north wind brings rain, so a gossiping tongue causes anger!
Conclusion:
Children of God are expected to be truthful so that they will remain shining light in the midst of darkness. Also speaking the truth will lead us to eternal life with Jesus!
