Psalms 56. A Prayer Of Trust In God. Prayer For Relief From Tormentors

To the chief Musician upon Jonathelemrechokim, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath

1 Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me. 2 Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High. 3 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. 4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. 5 Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. 6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul. 7 Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.

8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? 9 When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me. 10 In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word. 11 In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. 12 Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee. 13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

Okoro’s Story

 

 

Okoro was 15 when he was caught sexually abusing a 10 year old girl in his school. He admitted that when he was 8 years, their house help sexually abused him. Okoro taught it was a good way of taking revenge. He really needed help. Okoro was taken to a professional counsellor, who helped him.

Anyone who sexually abuses a child has a problem and certainly needs to see a doctor or a professional counsellor.

Some abusers take revenge on others because they were sexually abused when they were young. They may also want to feel what it is like to abuse someone since they were also abused.

You can help prevent these abusers from hurting other children.

The Butterfly Effect

Have you heard about the butterfly effect? In physics, it describes how tiny changes in initial conditions (such as the flap of a butterfly’s wings) can affect weather thousands of miles away.

Imagine – a fragile butterfly can alter weather patterns on another continent! Had it not flapped its wings, the trajectory of the weather system might have been vastly different. What can you learn from this?

You may feel insignificant at times, as fragile as the butterfly. It may seem like you’re just flapping your wings when you are standing alone for truth and honesty in the workplace or the home. You say, “What can I do in the face of a challenge this big?” More than you think! Your faith, your words, your deeds, your prayers, your examples, your kindness and persistence can release the power of God and activate the forces of heaven to go to work in that situation.

God loves to use things that we consider to be insignificant, like Moses’ rod which parted the Red Sea, or David’s slingshot that brought down a giant, or a boy’s lunch that fed a multitude.

Your flapping wings can initiate changes that will influence lives around you for all eternity. Jesus said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you” (Matthew 17:20 NKJV). It’s not about the size of the seed you sow, but about the GOD Who grants increase. It’s not about the prayer you pray but about the greatness of One Who answers prayer!

A Psalm of Asaph

Solomon writes: “Without oxen a stable stays clean, but you need a strong ox for a large harvest” (Proverbs 14:4 NLT). If you insist on always having a nice neat stall, you’ll have an empty stall. If you want a big harvest, you’ll need a big ox with a big appetite that creates big messes. For example, if you decide to have children you’ll have lots of joy, and lots of messes to clean up. Within minutes, children can take a house that looks like it belongs in Better Homes and Gardens and make it look like a trial run for the battle of Armageddon. So you’ve an option: Live by yourself and enjoy a less complicated life, or accept the responsibilities that come with having a family. Even in the dictionary, the word “striving” and “struggling” comes before the word “success”

Dr. John Maxwell says, “At some point you have to make a transition from believer of the dream, to the buyer of the dream. No dream comes true without somebody paying for it. And part of the price you will have to pay is in learning from the mistakes you make. You can attend every success seminar, read every success manual and follow every success mentor, but the price must always be paid in messes and mistakes. There isn’t a single person in the world who has achieved anything without paying a price for it. Some pay with their lives or their freedom. Others pay by giving up options or finances or relationships. But one way or another, everybody pays.”

Who can be sexually abused?

 

 

 

 

Child sexual abuse can happen to children of all ages. A boy or a child who is only two or three years can be sexually abused. Teenage boys or girls can also experience child sexual abuse. Girls are the ones who are abused the most; but boys are sexually abused too. Do you know what? Adults can also be sexually abused.

My friend Ify invited me to her tenth year birthday party. Her brother, Uncle Obi (that’s what we all call him) has always been friendly with me whenever I come to the house. During the birthday party, Uncle Obi took me into his room. He started putting his arm around me and he touched my breast. I felt very uncomfortable and told him I did not like it. He asked me to keep it a secret and never tell anyone. He even promised to buy me anything I wanted. I stopped visiting Ify’s house, and told my mum about it.

 

 

 

 

Watch out! Sexual abuse can take place in the following places:

  • In your house
  • Any lonely place
  • The school
  • In a friend’s house
  • The church or any religious place
  • In the bathroom
  • In your room
  • A relative’s house
  • Anywhere!

5 Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish? 6 And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it. 7 All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt. 8 An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more. 9 Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. 10 But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them. 11 By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me. 12 And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever. 13 Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David

1 I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. 2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. 3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. 4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. 5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.

6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required. 7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, 8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. 9 I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips, O LORD, thou knowest. 10 I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.

11 Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me. 12 For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me. 13 Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me. 14 Let them be ashamed and confounded together that seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame that wish me evil. 15 Let them be desolate for a reward of their shame that say unto me, Aha, aha. 16 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified. 17 But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God.

1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. 2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred. 3 My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue, 4 LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. 5 Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah. 6 Surely every man walketh in a vain show: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.

7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee. 8 Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish. 9 I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it. 10 Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand. 11 When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah. 12 Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were. 13 O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.
