TEXT: John 15:1-2, 8-9

INTRODUCTION: The theme of the new series for this month is TRINITY and we are starting today with God the Father, the first person of the Trinity. In Christianity, the three-in-one God is known as Trinity, because though God is one, He exists as three distinct persons with each member functioning in his own way – God the Father as the Originator, God the Son, Jesus Christ who is the Agent and God the Holy Spirit who is the Applicator. Trinity is not found in scripture. However, it summarizes the theological truth we see in scripture where the three persons of trinity were present at the same time, (such as during the baptism of Jesus Christ, when the Holy Spirit descended on Him and God the Father spoke). The three members are unified, and they don’t oppose one another – just like when the world was created and during the process of salvation – God loved us and gave Jesus Christ to die for our sins and the Holy Spirit was given to Believers thereafter. (John 14:16; 16:7).

Today, we are starting with God the Father, the first person of the Trinity and the father figure, who is understood to be the supreme Being, Origin of all things (1 Corinthians 8:6), and to whom we pray (Matthew 6:9).

OUTLINE 1: WHO IS GOD THE FATHER?

1. GOD IS THE CREATOR OF ALL THINGS AND SOURCE OF LIFE:

• GOD IS THE RULER OVER ALL: Ephesians 4: 6; 2 Chronicles 20:6

• GOD IS THE ALMIGHTY: Genesis 1: 17.

• GOD IS THE I AM THAT I AM: Exodus 3:14; Psalm 102:25-27

OUTLINE 2: THE CHARACTER OF GOD THE FATHER

1. GOD IS LOVE: 1 John 4:8; John 3:16,1 John 3:1; Romans 5:8; John 16:27

• GOD’S WAYS ARE UNFATHOMABLE: Romans 9: 15; 11: 33; Job 11: 7.

• GOD IS HOLY: Leviticus 11: 44-45 ;1 Peter 1: 15 – 16; 1 Samuel 2: 2; Revelation 4:8 Numbers 23:19.

• GOD’S JUDGEMENT: Hebrews 12: 6-11; Hebrews 12:29; Isaiah 2:1-5

• GOD IS OMNIPOTENT – Exodus 14:14, 21-23, 26-31, Jeremiah 32:17;

• GOD IS OMNIPRESENT – Psalm 139: 7-12, Jeremiah 23:
• 23-24;

• GOD IS OMNISCIENT – Matthew 10: 29-30, Psalm 138:5.

• GOD’S WISDOM AND REVELATIONS: James 1: 5; Revelation 1: 1-3

1. GOD IS OUR SUSTAINER: PRESERVES/WATCHES OVER US: Psalm 68:5, 2 Corinthians 1: 3-4; Psalm 46:1; Isaiah

1. GOD HELPS US TO BE FRUITFUL: God the Father is the Gardener: John 15:1-2

1. GOD IS OUR DELIVERER/DEFENDER: 2 Chronicles 20: 15b, 17

1. Faithful (Psalm 36:5),
2. Merciful (Lamentations 3:22-23),
3. Immutable (Jeremiah 32:17);
4. Independent (Psalm 90:2);
5. Righteous (Psalm 145:17) Etc.

LESSON OUTLINE 3: OUR DUTY AS HIS CHILDREN

1. LOVE HIM IN RETURN: Deuteronomy 6:5; Mark 12: 30; John15: 9

• REVERENCE HIM: Proverbs 14: 26- 28; Psalm 25:12; Psalm 2:11, 5:7, 19:9

• OBEY HIM: Deuteronomy 5:1, 28: 1- 2.

• WAIT ON HIM ALWAYS: Psalm 37: 7; Isaiah 40:31

• PRAISE HIM: Psalm 150:1; Hebrews 13:15: Psalm 22:3

• TRUST AND HAVE FAITH IN HIM: 2 Chronicles 20:20

• SURRENDER ALL TO HIM: 1 Peter 5: 6-7; John 12:24-25.

CONCLUSION

God the Father is the Creator of all things in heaven and on earth. He is the Father of Jesus Christ (God referred to Jesus as His only begotten Son in John 3:16, Matthew 3:17 and Jesus called him Father John 15:1– 2). He is also the Father of all Believers as He guides, supports, loves and sustains them. He alone knows the exact timing of the end times (Matthew 24:36). We all can only know God the Father through having a relationship with Jesus Christ since Jesus is the perfect representation of the Father (John 14:7a) and a diligent study of the Word.

If you are yet to surrender your life to God by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you cannot be assured of living a victorious Christian life and cannot claim eternal life. Why not surrender to Him today.
