When I Survey The Wondrous Cross, On Which The Prince Of Glory Died

1-Corinthians_1-18: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God

1-Corinthians_1-18: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God

When I survey the wondrous cross

On which the Prince of glory died

My richest gain I count but loss,

And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,

Save in the death of Christ, my

God:

All the vain things that charm me most

I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet,

Sorrow and love flow mingled down

Did ever such love and sorrow meet,

Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine,

That were an offering far too small

Love so amazing, so divine,

Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Arise, My Soul, Arise,Shake Off Thy Guilty Fears

Isaiah_60-1: Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee

Isaiah_60-1: Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee

Arise, my soul, arise,

Shake off thy guilty fears:

The bleeding sacrifice

In my behalf appears;

Before the throne my surety

stands

My name is written on His hands.

He ever lives above,

For me to intercede;

His all redeeming love,

His precious blood to plead:

His blood atoned for all our race,

And sprinkles now the throne of grace.

Five bleeding wounds He bears,

Received on Calvary;

They pour effectual prayer

They strongly plead for me;

“Forgive him, oh, forgive,” they cry,

“Nor let that ransomed sinner die.”

The Father hears Him pray,

His dear Anointed One:

He cannot turn away

The presence of His Son:

His Spirit answers to the blood.

And tells me I am born of God.

My God is reconciled,

His pad’ning voice I hear:

He owns me for His child.

I can no longer fear;

With confidence I now draw nigh,

And “Father, Abba, Father,” cry

Peace on earth! Goodwill unto men

John_14-27: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid

John_14-27: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid

Peace on earth goodwill unto men

Was the song of the angels,

Shepherd abiding in the field,

Heard, and herald Jesus birth.

‘T was upon the mount of Judea

There was great light of stars seen

To guide the wise men on their way.

To look for this precious gift.

And the three wise men saw the light

As it was shown unto them

To the child they brought precious gifts.

Gold, silver and Frankincense.

By the manger where Jesus laid

They fell and worshiped their King

In humble they offered their gifts

To Him that brought salvation.

Our Lord Jesus is born newly,

As the year is passing by

In the heart of all His children

As foretold by the angels.

Behold we see the star newly

Like the time of Jesus birth

May His blessing be upon us

As the year is passing by.

Songs of praise the angels sang

Psalms_91-11: For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Psalms_91-11: For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Songs of praise the angels sang,

Heaven with alleluias rang,

When creation was begun,

When God spake, and it was

done.

Songs of praise awoke the morn

When the Prince of Peace was born;

Songs of praise arose when he

Captive led captivity.

Heaven and earth must pass away;

Songs of praise shall crown that day;

God will make new heavens, new earth

Songs of praise shall hail their birth.

And can man alone be dumb

Till that glorious Kingdom come?

No! the Church delights to raise

Psalms, and hymns, and songs of praise.

Saints below, with heart and voice,

Still in songs of praise rejoice,

Learning here, by faith and love,

Songs of praise to sing above.

Borne upon their latest breath,

Songs of praise shall conquer death;

Then, amidst eternal joy,

Songs of praise their pow’rs employ.

LIKE MASTER JESUS

John_3-17: For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved

John_3-17: For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved

TEXTS:

John 13:1 -16:

1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end. 2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him; 3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; 4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. 5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. 6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. 8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. 9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. 10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. 11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean. 12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? 13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Matthew 10:25:

New Living Translation

Students are to be like their teacher, and slaves are to be like their master. And since I, the master of the household, have been called the prince of demons, the members of my household will be called by even worse names!

Luke 6:40:

English Standard Version

A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.

               INTRODUCTION:

Every apprentice desires to be like his boss, who in his work displays his level of professionalism and expertise. Hence, from day to day, he watches his master and does exactly what he does. Let us believe the Holy Spirit to take us through the lifestyle of the Master so that we can amend our lives where necessary.

THE NATURE OF THE MASTER

Humility.

Philippians 2:5-7: “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:”

Matthew_11-29: Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Love Of The World.

1John2:15-17 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. ”

Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment. No Perfect Marriage

Luke_6-37: Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven

Comparison Shopping By Barbara Rainey

Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment. JOHN 7:24

It’s so easy for a woman to look at her husband and say:

“He’s sure not very _______.”

“He doesn’t _______ or _______ or ________.”

“I wish I was married to someone more like ________.”

But every time you say or even think something along these lines—every time you focus on those inevitable aspects about him that are disappointing or negative—you catch him in a comparison trap. You forget that God has a plan for your man that is different from the one He has for somebody else’s husband. You ignore the fact that your job is to respect him, to be used by God to help reveal that plan in his life, whatever it may be.

When I married Dennis, I had no idea we would end up doing the kinds of things God has led us to do. It hasn’t always been easy to have Dennis Rainey for a husband. It would have been so easy at times to settle back and say, “I wish he was more like so-and-so,” rather than being content with the one God had given me and helping him develop into the man God wanted him to be. There are so many things that Dennis does well. There are a lot of things he doesn’t. But when I’m lasering in on those things he doesn’t do quite so well, I’m expecting him to be someone he’s not. No, he’s not perfect. Neither am I. Nobody is.

But I believe that God can change your heart as He does mine when I slip into seeing only the imperfections. The key is recognizing what you are looking at in his life and being willing to let God adjust your focus from the negative to the positive.

DISCUSS

Spend some time encouraging each other right now. I’m sure both of you could use some building up.

PRAY

Ask God to adjust your view of each other toward something more grateful and positive.

God Has Called Us To Join An Army That Will Bring The Gospel Into The Enemy’s Territory.

Matthew_28-19-3: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost

Matthew_28-19-3: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost

Matthew 28:16-20

I think it’s fairly evident that the society we live in is very self-centered, and this same characteristic can be present in a church. Whenever a local body of believers develops an inward focus, its fruitfulness in ministry begins to decrease, and each member’s Christian walk is hindered.

Many believers want their church to be cozy and comfortable. They come to listen to a nice sermon, fellowship with friends, and have their needs met. But God never intended for the gathering of His people to be like a country club; He calls us to join an army that will bring the gospel into enemy territory.

Matthew_28-18-1: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth

Matthew_28-18-1: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth

An effective church—one that poses a real threat to the Enemy—is a body of discipled people who have been taught the truth of Scripture, trained for service, and helped to mature spiritually. But all this is accomplished for the purpose of going out into the world, not for becoming a self-contained sanctuary of Christian comfort.

The urgency of the Lord’s command and the desperate condition of humanity should motivate us to leave the safety of our Christian fellowships and deliver the message of salvation through Jesus. To avoid this responsibility is to miss the Father’s plan for your life and the opportunity to help build His kingdom.

None of us want to waste time or energy on trivial things and thereby miss the exciting fulfilment of God’s will. He has called us, not to a life of comfortable tradition, but to an adventure of obedience. Answer His call—you’ll help fill His kingdom with people from every tribe and nation.

There Is No Fear In Love

1-John_4-18: There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love

1-John_4-18: There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love

1John 4:17-19

“Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us.”

We are being raised up to represent Jesus by living godly lives. By faith we have received the love of God in Jesus Christ. Because of this we can stand against fear – which I believe is like a cancer – knowing that perfect love casts out fear. Remember that God is loving and kind – faithful to carry us through even the darkest of nights and the most challenging of circumstances. Every day is an opportunity to renew your mind, body and spirit. When you are under attack, retreat into the presence of God. It is there you will find all you need to destroy the enemy and to persevere and overcome the challenges surrounding you. The Holy Spirit’s agenda is to form Christ in you, and He and Jesus will work together, for the glory of God, as they raise you up to be more like Jesus. Enjoy the process! Ask the Holy Spirit to make you a kingdom minded person!

Colossians 3: 1 – 3 says: “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

Proverbs_31-30-1: Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised

Proverbs_31-30-1: Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised

Proverbs 31:10-31

A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies… She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.

Give honor to whom honor is due! This biblical principle is most certainly true of women, and especially those who are godly mothers. Let’s make sure we praise the key women in our lives today!

Prayer:

Father, I want to thank You for the women who have helped shape my life in a way and helped me find You. Please bless them today, this I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

May God Bless Nigeria, America And Israel And Take Care Of Us; May God Make His Face Shine Upon Us, And Be Gracious To Us; May The Lord Lift Up His Countenance Upon Us, And Give Us Peace, In Jesus Christ Name, We Pray! Amen!

Friendly Alliance Between The Church And The World

Isaiah_60-1: Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee

Isaiah_60-1: Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee

Christians should stand out like sparkling diamonds against a rough and dark background. We should be poised, cultured, courteous, gracious—but firm in the things that we do and don’t do. We should laugh and be radiant, but we should refuse sinful pleasure.

Matthew_5-14: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid, I Am The Light Of The World

Matthew_5-14: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid, I Am The Light Of The World

A distinctive mark of our times is that the line between the church and the world is often difficult to discern. In many religious circles there is a friendly alliance between the church and the world. The Scripture teaches that certainly the church is to go to the world and live in the world, but without partaking of its evil deeds.

Psalms_119-105: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path

Psalms_119-105: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path

This is an age of compromise, expediency and toleration. Yet we read in the Word of God such statements as: “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean” (2 Corinthians 6:17). So we face a dilemma—which voice will we listen to? Which appeal will we yield to?

Matthew_5-16: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven

Matthew_5-16: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven

The Christian’s priorities are the kingdom of Christ … dominated by scriptural standards and Christian ideals. In seeking to know the will of God regarding perplexities and problems, the Christian must come to the Bible for the solution of his problem, with an open mind and a willing heart.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I confess that at times I have conformed more to the world than to You. Please forgive me and help me to walk in Your ways. I want to shine for You so that others will be drawn to Your light. In Jesus’ Name.

Amen!

In God every want is met, whether in life or in death. (Classic)

Psalms_119-90: Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth

Psalms_119-90: Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth

Psalm 119:57

Thou art my portion, O Lord.

Look at thy possessions, O believer, and compare thy portion with the lot of thy fellowmen. Some of them have their portion in the field; they are rich, and their harvests yield them a golden increase; but what are harvests compared with thy God, who is the God of harvests? What are bursting granaries compared with Him, who is the Husbandman, and feeds thee with the bread of heaven? Some have their portion in the city; their wealth is abundant, and flows to them in constant streams, until they become a very reservoir of gold; but what is gold compared with thy God? Thou couldst not live on it; thy spiritual life could not be sustained by it. Put it on a troubled conscience, and could it allay its pangs? Apply it to a desponding heart, and see if it could stay a solitary groan, or give one grief the less? But thou hast God, and in Him thou hast more than gold or riches ever could buy. Some have their portion in that which most men love-applause and fame; but ask thyself, is not thy God more to thee than that? What if a myriad clarions should be loud in thine applause, would this prepare thee to pass the Jordan, or cheer thee in prospect of judgment? No, there are griefs in life which wealth cannot alleviate; and there is the deep need of a dying hour, for which no riches can provide. But when thou hast God for thy portion, thou hast more than all else put together. In Him every want is met, whether in life or in death. With God for thy portion thou art rich indeed, for He will supply thy need, comfort thy heart, assuage thy grief, guide thy steps, be with thee in the dark valley, and then take thee home, to enjoy Him as thy portion for ever. “I have enough,” said Esau; this is the best thing a worldly man can say, but Jacob replies, “I have all things,” which is a note too high for carnal minds.

Mother’s Day may have already passed, but all of the great women in our life are worth more than one day of acknowledgement

Proverbs_31-30-1: Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised

Proverbs_31-30-1: Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised

Proverbs 31:28 “Her children rise up and call her blessed, her husband also praises her.”

This past Sunday was Mother’s Day. It was a day we celebrated the women who are most dear in our life. I can’t think of a more fitting verse to honor them with. If you grew up with a loving mom, who cared for and encouraged you, take this verse to heart.

Rise up and let her know how blessed you are. Especially, if she is still around today, make sure you do so. If not, take a moment to thank God for allowing her to have been in your life. If you are a mother or hope to be someday, remember this verse. Let it be your guide as you tackle the everyday challenges of life. Mother’s Day may have already passed, but all of the great women in our life are worth more than one day of acknowledgement. Whether it’s a mom, grandma or a spouse, remind them again today just how special they are.

Amen!

Passing Judgment On Others

Luke_18-27: And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God

Luke_18-27: And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God

Read: Luke 18:9-14

Bible in a Year: 2 Kings 19-21; John 4:1-30

Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.Luke 18:14

One August evening in Vermont, a young missionary spoke at our small church. The country where he and his wife served was in religious turmoil, and it was considered too dangerous for children. In one of his stories, he told us about a heart-wrenching episode when his daughter pleaded with him not to leave her behind at a boarding school.

I was a new dad at that time, having recently been blessed with a daughter, and the story upset me. How could loving parents leave their daughter alone like that? I muttered to myself. By the time the talk was finished, I was so worked up that I ignored the offer to visit with the missionary. I charged out of the church, saying out loud as I left: “I’m sure glad I’m not like . . .”

In that instant, the Holy Spirit stopped me cold. I couldn’t even finish the sentence. Here I was, saying almost word for word what the Pharisee said to God: “I thank You that I am not like other men” (Luke 18:11). How disappointed I was in myself! How disappointed God must have been! Since that evening, I’ve asked God to help me listen to others with humility and restraint as they pour their hearts out in confession, profession, or pain. —Randy Kilgore

Lord, may we be quick to listen and slow to speak and to judge. A proud attitude so easily infects our lives. Give us instead a humility that reflects Your heart and love.

We don’t get closer to God by passing judgment on others.

INSIGHT: The story that Jesus tells of the two men who went into the temple to pray reminds us of what God considers important. The religious Pharisee focused entirely on himself and his efforts, highlighting what he did and didn’t do. However, the tax collector, who would have been considered one of the worst sinners of his day, recognized his unworthiness and focused on God and His mercy. Jesus said it was the “sinner” who went away justified before God (vv. 13-14). Jesus wants His listeners to understand that it is not what we do that makes us right with God; it is God who makes us right with Him.

Songs of praise the angels sang

Psalms_9-1: I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

Psalms_9-1: I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works.

Songs of praise the angels sang,

Heaven with alleluias rang,

When creation was begun,

When God spake, and it was

done.

Songs of praise awoke the morn

When the Prince of Peace was born;

Songs of praise arose when he

Captive led captivity.

Heaven and earth must pass away;

Songs of praise shall crown that day;

God will make new heavens, new earth

Songs of praise shall hail their birth.

And can man alone be dumb

Till that glorious Kingdom come?

No! the Church delights to raise

Psalms, and hymns, and songs of praise.

Saints below, with heart and voice,

Still in songs of praise rejoice,

Learning here, by faith and love,

Songs of praise to sing above.

Borne upon their latest breath,

Songs of praise shall conquer death;

Then, amidst eternal joy,

Songs of praise their pow’rs employ.

Amen!

Brightest and best of the sons of the morning

Job_19-25: For I know that my Redeemer lives

Job_19-25: For I know that my Redeemer lives

Brightest and best of the sons of the morning

Dawn on our darkness, and lend us thine aid,

Star of the East, the horizon adorning

Guide where our infant Redeemer is laid.

Cold on His cradle the dew drops are shining;

Low lies His head with the beasts of the stall;

Angels adore Him in slumber reclining

Maker, and Monarch, and Saviour of all,

Say, shall we yield Him, in costly devotion,

Odours of Edom, an offerings divine,

Gems of the mountain and pearls of the ocean,

Myrrh from the forest of gold from the mine?

Vainly we offer each ample oblation

Vainly with gifts would His favour secure;

Richer by far is the heart’s adoration;

Dearer to God are the prayers of the poor.

Brightest and best of the sons of the morning,

Dawn on our darkness, and lend us thine aid;

Star of the East, the horizon

adorning.

Guide where our infant

Redeemer is laid.
