The power of humility

“For by grace given me I say to every one of you. Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself only with sober judgement in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.”  Romans 12:3

Humility is the opposite of pride. It is a mental attitude of holiness and its major characteristic is not thinking of oneself more highly than one ought to.

Jesus said to the woman with a possessed daughter “it is not right to give bread to a dog.” many would call that a mean statement. At that point she could have reacted negatively to the degrading statement made by Jesus, but…

Jesus is real. Blessed are they that have not seen and yet have believed

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed (John 20:29)

A certain man hated everything about Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. His wife was a Christian but he wouldn’t let her go to church. One day, his wife went for a crusade close by, without telling him. He got furious and stormed the venue, combing through the crowd in search of his wife. Suddenly, a loud cry rent the air and everyone turned to see what had happened. They saw the man shouting, “He’s real! He’s real!…

Broken for a blessing

Dear Friend,

Remodelling is a way of transforming and updating a house or place of business in order to make it more appealing, efficient, or useful. Usually, it involves a redesign on the inside of a building, but it can also include the outside of the property.

Those who have been through the process of remodelling know how extensive and upsetting it can be. Even in the best of circumstances, workers will still create dust and chaos. Yet, in order to enjoy something old being made new, you have to go through the process of remodelling. The same is true when you view God‘s plan for your life.

There are times in the life of every believer when he or she will go through a time of remodelling. It is a time when God is updating our life by stripping away old thoughts and…

No fear in love

Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgement: because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that fearth is not made perfect in love (1 John 4:17-18)

The reason fear takes a hold of certain people is due to the kind of information they’ve opened themselves to. When someone exposes himself to negative information – news about all the evil, wickedness, disasters and acts of terrorism happening around the world, fear will rise up in him like a giant and bind him.

Fear is the most deployed…

Salvation is for all men

That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, thou shall be saved (Romans 10:9)

Some people believe salvation is only for certain people; that God already numbered those that’ll be saved, and those reserved for eternal damnation; but that’s not truth. You might then ask, “So what did Jesus mean when He said, “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him…” (John 6:44). Doesn’t that mean the Father appoints some people to salvation, and separates some others unto destruction? No! Salvation is for…

SUFFERING IS UNNECESSARY!

For we which have believed do enter into rest, as He said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the World (Hebrews 4:3)

Everything required for your success has already been provided by God. The works were finished from the foundation of the world. Now, when the Bible says the works were finished from the foundation of the world, as in the scripture above, it means you don’t have to struggle in life, for everything concerning your success, health and prosperity has been taken care…

Speaking in tongues is a divine coded language

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14)

Little wonder that the devil and the cohorts of darkness are confounded when we speak in other tongues, for it’s an esoteric language reserved only for the initiated for direct communication with God. Sometimes folks who are unlearned in spiritual things jeer at us when we speak in tongues; “how can you be speaking a language that makes no sense”  they query mockingly. Well, the reason it makes no sense to the natural mind is that…

Being confident of this very thing, that He which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6)

It’s impossible for you to fail

This should be one of our favourite scriptures. It should always remind us of the fact that we’re not walking alone, and assures us that God is more interested in our successes than we could ever be. The Lord is the One perfecting our lives, ensuring success in everything we do. Hence, it’s impossible for us to fail!

Well, your personal experience of life may have been one of failure. However, the Bible says “…as He (Jesus) is so are we in this world” (

Leaving school, parting, deathlike, calls up tears. It’s my Birthday

Prayer's avatarPrayer Haven

Today is my Birthday!

Hip! Hop!! Hooray!!!

I’m a year older and wiser too!  I have been thinking what story should I write to commemorate with such a special day, but couldn’t up with something. So I dug into my archives and dug out this article I wrote eight years ago. Unedited, I hope you will enjoy it.

Leaving school, parting, deathlike, calls up tears!

Leaving school, moving houses, ending a relationship and going away generally leave a sour taste in the mouth and tears in the eyes, it makes one feel a loss akin to death.

And now as I write this, I am thinking of my friends and foes alike who have graduated and who are currently serving their motherland (NYSC) National Youth Service Corps.

Thinking of them makes me realise the transient nature of things. The here-now-gone-tomorrow phenomenon that is life.

I think of the first…

God leads me beside the quiet waters He restores my soul. Hold onto Jesus

When is the last time you felt frustrated, frightened, or fearful? Instead of releasing that thought, hang on to it for a moment. Did these feelings come as a result of the death of a loved one or the news of a grave illness? Perhaps, you received word that you were going to be laid off from your job. With no one at home to help, it feels as though you have reached a dead end. How will you take care of your family? Where will the money come from to pay the bills?

Many times, God allows us to face great difficulties – not to hurt us or make us feel as though we have been left without any hope – but in order to teach us to turn our faces to…

Worship begins in your heart

Prayer's avatarPrayer Haven

Worship begins in your heart.

Usually, there will come a time when God will test the depth of your   devotion to Him. In Genesis 22, He tested Abraham‘s faith beyond anything   imaginable. The Lord instructed Abraham to take his only son, Isaac, and   offer him as a sacrifice. For a moment, draw this parallel in your mind: God sent   His own Son to earth and willingly offered Him as a sacrifice for our sins.   Was God’s request of Abraham a foreshadowing of what would come? Perhaps.   However, the one thing we want to focus on here is that Abraham was willing   to obey God. He did not talk back, make excuses, or turn away from God. He   just obeyed – knowing in his heart that the Lord would provide the right   sacrifice.

When they had reached their destination…

The Lord is my Shepherd

Prayer's avatarPrayer Haven

The Lord is my ShepherdIn these changing times, many people are living from pay check to pay check.   And if the truth were known, at some point or another most of us have been   concerned about money. We imagine that men like Bill Gates do not have this   problem because he always has enough to cover the checks he writes.

We believe he has more than enough. On the other hand,   some people fall just short of enough. Many possess just enough, and others   will never have all they want or think they need. God, however, does not want   us to look at our earthly possessions and think, “Well, I don’t have enough   to make it, and I’m mad because that guy over there has much more.” Wealth is   never the issue with God. You can be the richest person…

God is your everlasting peace

Prayer's avatarPrayer Haven

God is your everlasting peace

There was a lady who lived out in the country and never had electricity. Finally, her family made arrangements so a line could be run out to her house. However, after six months, she had only used one unit. Company officials decided to drive out to her house to make sure nothing was wrong. When everything checked out fine, they asked her if she was enjoying having electricity. “Oh my, yes,” she replied.

Then one of the representatives said, “Well, tell us how you are using it.” The old woman paused for a moment, and then, with a gleam in her eyes, she explained. Each evening, as the sun was setting, she turned the lights on long enough to light her kerosene lamps—and then turned them off! She was still living a kerosene existence when she could have been enjoying the comforts of having…

Knowing the truth about debt is the first step towards financial freedom

Prayer's avatarPrayer Haven

A good person leaves an inheritance   for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the   righteous (Proverbs 13:22).

Financially speaking, there are three kinds of people: the haves, the   have-nots, and those who have not paid for what they have! Debt has become a   way of life in the American landscape. The average American household spends   at least 20 percent of their net income on consumer debt. We must understand   that when debt rules, debt ruins. Proverbs 22:7 says: “The borrower becomes   the lender’s slave.” Debt controls your life, so it puts you in a kind of   slavery. There are several reasons for debt: ignorance, indulgence, poor   planning, and emergencies. All these things can contribute to the snowball of   debt.

But I believe that God provides a way for us to live without…

Every child has a right

Prayer's avatarPrayer Haven

English: Mother Mary with the Holy Child Jesus...

Every child has a right:

To be tucked up in bed every night.

To go to bed without fear, what the next day will bring.

To be educated.

To play.

To be happy.

To be loved.

To be kept warm.

To be held when they cry.

To know that their voice will be heard.

To feel that nothing can ever happen that can’t be fixed by someone who cares.

To never ever cower.

Or tremble.

Or shake.

Or have their innocence punched or kicked

Or screamed at.

To be a child.

To have a childhood.

We exist for God alone

Prayer's avatarPrayer Haven

Stained glass at St John the Baptist's Anglica...

We exist for God alone

We exist for God; He does not exist for us. God loves doing things for His people, but the reason we get up in the morning is to fulfil His purpose for our lives, not merely to ask Him to bless our purpose for our lives. God does not want to be our vending machine, where we put in a coin and He dispenses what we demand. Until we understand that we exist for Him, we will never know our purpose for being.

Purposelessness is everywhere. I would compare a purposeless existence with the life of a dog. Dogs bark a lot, and most of the time they are just making noise and not really telling you anything important. Purposeless people talk a lot just because they want to be heard. Dogs also like to run in circles. They move, but they’re not really…
