OPENING PRAYER: Father, thank You for bringing us to another year in the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

MEMORY VERSE: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: – Psalm 103:2 (KJV)

BIBLE TEXT: Psalm 103:1-22 (KJV)

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

6 The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

7 He made known his ways unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel.

8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.

9 He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.

10 He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.

12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.

14 For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.

15 As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.

16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.

17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;

18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.

19 The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

20 Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.

21 Bless ye the Lord, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure.

22 Bless the Lord, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the Lord, O my soul.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: The Psalmist reminded us in Psalm 103 of God’s provisions for humanity that should not be overlooked, starting with the privileges of waking up daily, getting air not being paid for, the human anatomy working effectively, and deliverance from wicked forces and their antics. Anyone that rules out this awesome kindness of God should be reminded of John 15:5 that without Him, we are nothing. We should appreciate the Almighty God for not keeping us in darkness, always being prompt in yielding to our daily requests, and making sure we are not abandoned.

LESSON AIM: To advise believers that thanking God and appreciating Him for the daily benefits must be their culture.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should be able to:

Identify God’s undeserved benefits.

Live and thank God.

a. God does good things for His own.

b. He is slow to anger and full of unfailing love.

c. Everything God created is meant for His children’s well-being.

d. The love of God towards His own is forever.

LESSON OUTLINE ONE: GOD’S UNDESERVED BENEFITS

Undeserved benefits refer to all good things God gives us freely, not because we earned them or deserve them, but because of His love, mercy and grace. They can be termed “grace, blessings, unmerited favour”.

Daily provision; every day, God unleashes upon our paths food, shelter, resources-Matthew 6:26.

Peace of mind – Philippians 4:7.

Deliverance from wicked forces – Psalm 91:3.

Sound health and healing. Psalm 103:3, 3 John 1:2.

His love and mercy. John 3:16, Lamentations 3:22-23.

Access to God’s presence and granting of requests. Hebrews 4:16, Jeremiah 32:27.

LESSON OUTLINES TWO: TO LIVE AND THANK GOD

When you consider Samson and David, their exploits, longevity, and quickness to divine response to their requests, it can be traced to a life of gratitude.

David had a fulfilling life because he knew how to appreciate God for every blessing received, promises fulfilled, victory accessed, deliverance received, and enemies defeated.

David knew where he came from; he understood victory is not by might or armoury 1 Samuel 17. He also knew that getting success in every endeavour comes from God’s love and His abiding presence.

To Live and be Thankful Means:

a. Being victorious, successful and productive.

b. Getting a timely response from God.

c. Being repositioned to enviable heights.

d. Being guided and supported.

e. Being perpetually in thanksgiving.

SUMMARY: Wherever you are as a believer, let people see your light shining, and never forget all the benefits God has given to you: financial, material, spiritual and marital.

CONCLUSION: We are all sinners by nature – Romans 3:2. We could never earn God’s favour by our own works; it is only through the grace of God, His unearned kindness, that is the reason we should show Him gratitude for His goodness, remember we are nothing without God’s grace. You also need to extend love and mercy to others, as God has shown to us.

PRAYER POINTS:

Father, I thank You for all Your benefits in my life, seen and unseen, known and unknown.

Lord, deliver me from spiritual forgetfulness and ingratitude in Jesus’ name.

O Lord, renew Your benefits in my life daily according to Your Word.

Lord, satisfy my mouth with good things and renew my strength like the eagles.

Lord, as I remember Your benefits, help me to walk in obedience to You.
