Romans_3-23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God

Romans_3-23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God

Text: Genesis 3:1-8:

“Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. 4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. 7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. 8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. ”

INTRODUCTION:

Compromise, according to the dictionary, means a settlement of dispute, argument, opinion, principle, etc. in which each party concedes to weaken a belief, standard etc. It involves partial surrender of one’s belief in concession to another or principle and lifestyle of the world system.

(A).  WHY DO PEOPLE COMPROMISE?

  • Lust of the flesh, lust of the eye and pride of life.-

Genesis.3:6:

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”

James 3-15:

“This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. ”

FEAR. –

Genesis. 12:10-13:

“And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land. 11 And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon: 12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive. 13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.”

Love of money.

Acts 5:1-5:

“But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.”

  • Trusting in man than in God-

1 Kings 13:7-9:

“The king said to the man of God, “Come home with me for a meal, and I will give you a gift. 8 But the man of God answered the king, “Even if you were to give me half your possessions, I would not go with you, nor would I eat bread or drink water here. 9 For I was commanded by the word of the Lord: ‘You must not eat bread or drink water or return by the way you came.’

1 Kings 18:24:

“And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.”

  • Lack of faith.-

  1. DANGERS INHERENT IN COMPROMISE

It leads to confusion, hopelessness and sadness. –

Matthew. 27:3:

“Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,”

  • Destroys or terminates God’s plan for one’s life. –

1 Samuel 15:26-29:

“But Samuel said to him, “I will not go back with you. You have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you as king over Israel!” 27 As Samuel turned to leave, Saul caught hold of the hem of his robe, and it tore. 28 Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to one of your neighbors—to one better than you. 29 He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a human being, that he should change his mind.” ”

It leads to death-

Acts 5:1-5 :

“But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. 3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. ”

  • Eternal condemnation. –

Revelation 21:8:

“But the fearful (Cowardly), and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

  1. ANTIDOTES TO COMPROMISE
  • Arrest the first thought of sin. –

Galatians 5:15:

“But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. ”

Proverbs 4:23:

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. ”

  • Be prayerful.-

Luke 21 :36:

“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”

Study God’s word-

Joshua 1:8

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Psalm 119:9-11:

“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. 10 With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. 11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. ”

  • Be ready to suffer for Christ. –

1 Peter 4:11-16:

“If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. 16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. ”

CONCLUSION:

If you are serious about this issue wherein God has dealt with us hither to, you need to deny yourself of every compromise and put on the consciousness of Heaven allthe time. Be determined and let no man take your crown –

Revelation 3:11:

“’I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”

Multiplicity in Marriage! Differences In Marriage

Colossians_3-12: Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering

Colossians_3-12: Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering

Put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another.

Colossians 3:12-13, NKJV

Ephesians_5-25: Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it

Ephesians_5-25: Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it

The differences between my husband and myself have been the basis for many fights. My husband likes everything in its place while I never even notice when things are a mess. He is very outgoing, able to recall people’s names easily. In contrast, I am almost a recluse and can’t even remember the faces of people I’ve met.

Ephesians_5-2-2: And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour

Ephesians_5-2-2: And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour

One day, following weeks of tension and fighting triggered by these differences, we began to make a study of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We recognized our own particular spiritual gifts, and they were totally opposite from each other. This led us to recognize other differences, acknowledge those differences by name, learn to accept them in each other, and then grow to appreciate them for the balance they give to our marriage relationship. I cannot adequately convey the blessing this has been, the peace that has resulted, and the love that has increased between us simply because after years of doing it “my way,” we finally followed the Creator’s wise directions for diversity in our marriage.

A Woman’s Charm is deceptive

Proverbs_31-30-1: Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised

Proverbs_31-30-1: Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised

Proverbs 31:30

Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

So many things we honor and exalt in our culture are shallow and temporary. The one thing that lasts in a beautiful woman is not her charm or her beauty, but her godliness. Let’s make sure in our church families and our physical families that true and lasting beauty is clearly valued and amply praised!

Prayer:

Holy God, please give us better eyes and more faithful hearts that we may value in all people qualities that reflect Your character. Bless us as we raise our children that we may instil in them a sense of proper values as they choose their life partner. And dear God, please help us in our churches to value and praise women for their holy character. In Jesus Christ Name. Amen.

If Only I Knew God’s Thoughts?” Get To Know God, But Don’t Try To Be His Mind-Reader

2-Corinthians_2-14: Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place

2-Corinthians_2-14: Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.” – 1 Corinthians 3:19-20

Have you ever said to yourself, “if only I knew God’s thoughts?”  Some people seem presumptuous to think that they do know God’s thoughts. They’re full of advice and act as if they understand exactly what God thinks and what he would do in every situation. Too often such people fail to recognize that God’s thoughts and ways are far beyond our ability to understand. His ways are typically not our ways.

On the other hand, God’s Word does give a glimpse into His thoughts and desires. He calls you to forsake your worldly thought patterns and learn His principles for life because conventional, worldly wisdom is often the exact opposite of God’s ways. By saturating your mind with God’s Word you begin to see both God’s message and His method. You’ll see how He worked in history. If you pause and reflect on your own life you’ll see how He has worked in your life. And you’ll see that it wasn’t how you would have designed it in either case.

God’s words to the prophet Isaiah give great hope. “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.” (55:10-11)

Get to know God, but don’t try to be His mind-reader.

A glimpse of God will save you. To gaze at Him will sanctify you.” – Manley Beasley

God is always thinking of you.

Jeremiah_29-11: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end

Jeremiah_29-11: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end

“For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.” Jeremiah 29:11 (AMP)

Often, people wander through life without having a clear plan or purpose in mind. Sometimes, we may even feel that maybe God’s plan for us has changed especially if we go through major disappointments, challenges, and difficulties. God, through the prophet Jeremiah, shares some wonderful news with us. He declares that not only does He have thoughts and plans for your life; they are good thoughts and plans of prosperity, health, and happiness. He doesn’t have thoughts and plans that lead to unrest or evil. God’s desire is to give you hope and a great expectancy in the final outcome of your life.

If you ever feel as if your life has no true meaning or purpose, think on Jeremiah 29:11, and know God created you for a purpose.  God is always thinking of you.

The plans He has for your future are the thoughts and plans He has had for you well before you entered your mother’s womb.

Take comfort in the truth that God has a plan for your life. Spend quality time in His presence seeking His direction, so you can have a clearer revelation as to what His will is for your life. Once you discover that, then your hope and expectation for a bright and blessed future will surely grow.

Prayer:

Father God, I pray that I receive a clear revelation of Your plan and purpose for my life. Please help me not become consumed with my own plans. Allow me to submit to Yours, so I can follow the course and plans You have uniquely ordained for my life. In Jesus Christ Name, Amen!

God Loves To Sing Too

Psalms_89-1-2: I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations

Psalms_89-1-2: I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations

Zephaniah 3:17

The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.

So God loves to sing too! He even likes to share his lullabies with those he loves. Not only is God Abba Father, he is also like a mother. He gently rocks and quiets his children with his affectionate care.

Prayer:

O God, I pray that when the storms of life rage against me, I will remember these words and find refuge, comfort and peace in Your sheltering care. Make me aware, O God, of Your singing in my life as You make Your salvation more clear to me each day. Through my Savior Jesus Christ I pray. Amen.

God is holy, I will devote myself to Him in purity, worship and service

1-Samuel_2-2: There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God

1-Samuel_2-2: There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty—the One who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”

(Revelation 4:8)

Isaiah was a prominent citizen of Judah during the eighth century B.C., a prophet of God. Today, we would consider him one of the “spiritual elite.” Isaiah was focused on the sins of others, calling them to repentance.

But at one point, Isaiah had a vision of heaven and the holiness of the Creator. Now that he found himself in the very presence of our holy God, he became dramatically aware of his own sin and unrighteousness. As the seraphim flew they were saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD God Almighty.” Terrified, he exclaimed, “My destruction is sealed, for I am a sinful man and a member of a sinful race…. I have seen the King, the Lord Almighty!” (Isaiah 6:5).

When the angels surround the glorious throne of God, they sing, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty.” Stephen Charnock comments, “Do you hear, in any angelical song, any other perfection of the Divine Nature thrice repeated? Where do we read of them crying out, ‘eternal, eternal, eternal’ or ‘faithful, faithful, faithful’ Lord God of hosts?”

This repetition, “holy, holy, holy,” tells us that God’s holiness is the supreme attribute of His being, the foundation of His eternal existence. His sovereignty and His role as judge are rooted in and flow out of His holiness. In fact, theologians speak of God’s holiness as His “central and supreme perfection.”

Unfortunately, God’s holiness has been ignored by modern Christianity. Our unwillingness to acknowledge a holy God reflects our failure to recognize who God really is.

Isaiah 6:1-4; Exodus 15:11

Because God is holy,

I will devote myself to Him in purity, worship and service.

Seeing Life Through God’s Eyes

1-Corinthians_2-9: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him

1-Corinthians_2-9: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him

Ever been to a football game at half time when the band forms words or pictures in the middle of the field? They look great from up in the stands. But have you thought about what they look like from the sidelines? Pointless, confusing, apparently meaningless. We see life from the sidelines. God sees it from the stands. As we gain perspective, we leave the sidelines and start working our way up.

G.K. Chesterton’s character, Father Brown, said “We are on the wrong side of the tapestry.” How true. We see the knots, the snarls, and the frayed underside. But God is on the right side of the tapestry—the side He is weaving into a beautiful work of art. We may not always know what the Master Artist is doing in our lives. But the important thing is, He does.

When we see the all-powerful God on the throne of the universe—God our Father committed to our good—we are relieved of much stress. And the stress we must still experience leaves us far richer.

Having a biblical perspective is seeing life through God’s eyes. It is seeing order in chaos, use in the useless, and good in the bad. If we are to develop eyes to see God’s hand in everything, we must believe (not necessarily understand) what Scripture says about the purpose of stress. Stress is an effective tool in the hands of our God, a tool that is intended both for His glory and our good. In this article we will look at some ways God uses stress.

God uses stress to get our attention. God created our bodies. He designed them to send us messages. If I stick my hand in fire, my body will send me a message, quickly and clearly. If I ignore it, I’ll pay the price.

C.S. Lewis said “pain is God’s megaphone.” Some of us are hard of hearing. We ignore physical, mental, and spiritual warning signs. God wants us to tune our ears to the messages He sends us through our minds and bodies.

God uses stress to help us redefine or rediscover our priorities. Bill and Evelyn’s marriage relationship was a distant one. They had drifted apart over many years, pouring themselves into their jobs and short changing their family. But when their son Jason was found in possession of heroin, the months that followed brought unprecedented crisis… and also the desire to pull their marriage back together.

Everyone has priorities. Some have never chosen or experienced the right ones and need to redefine them. Others of us have long known the right priorities and merely need to rediscover them: we’ve tasted right priorities, but we’ve allowed ourselves to drift away from them; we’ve replaced fellowship with entertainment, giving with buying, and family time with the television, the lawn, the remodeling job, the causes, and the committees.

By abandoning our God-given priorities we set ourselves up to learn a hard lesson. In essence we do what the Israelites did: lived in paneled houses while God’s house became a ruin (Haggai 1:4). In response, God sent lack of fulfillment, disillusionment, and failure as His messengers. He withheld His blessing till His people rediscovered their priorities.

Twice in Haggai 1:5-11, God’s people are admonished to “Give careful thought to your ways.” Stress should take us back to the basics. It is an opportunity to re-evaluate our priorities and bring them in line with God’s.

God uses stress to draw us to Himself. Time and again it was said of the people of Israel, “But in their distress they turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found by them” (2 Chronicles 15:4). It was in Jonah’s darkest hour, in his most stressful circumstances that he said this: “In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me” (Jonah 2:2). The Psalms are full of references of turning to God, seeking Him and finding Him in times of intense stress.

In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears (Psalms 18:6).

I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me (Psalms 120:1).

When our lives are comfortable and stress-free, too often we withdraw from the Lord into our own worlds of spiritual independence and isolation. Smug and self-satisfied, we forget what life is really all about. But as the thirsty seek for water, those under stress often seek God. Many non-believers have come to Christ and many believers have returned to Him in times of stress.

God uses stress to discipline us. Quoting Solomon’s words to his son, the writer of Hebrews offers what he calls a word of encouragement:

“My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son.” Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons (Hebrews 12:5-7).

To some of us, this doesn’t sound so encouraging. But we fail to realize how essential discipline is. Scripture says that to withhold discipline from a child is, in essence, child abuse: “He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him” (Proverbs 13:24). Discipline is corrective. It is remedial, not revengeful. God sends stresses not to get back at us for doing wrong, but to deepen our dependence on Him in order to do right. Though the stressful experience may seem excruciating at the time, it is ultimately all for good:

God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it (Hebrews 12:10-11).

God uses stress to strengthen our faith. 1 Peter 1:7 tells us: “These [trials] have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”

There is only one way a muscle grows—through stress. A muscle that is rarely exercised atrophies; it shrinks into uselessness. A muscle seldom stretched beyond its usual limits can only maintain itself. It cannot grow. To grow, a muscle must be taxed. Unusual demands must be placed upon it.

Stress is a demand placed upon our faith. Without it our faith will not, cannot, grow.

Ever seen grass grow through asphalt? It’s amazing if you think about it. How does grass, pressed flat and robbed of light, persevere and break through hard ground? Yet we’ve seen it. Somehow God made those tiny blades of grass to rise to the greatest challenge.

In the crucible of stress, as we draw on our resources in Christ, He gives us faith and strength to crack through and rise above the asphalt coat of life under the curse.

Our Position In Christ Jesus!

2 Timothy 2:3

2-Timothy_2-3: Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ

2-Timothy_2-3: Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”

There is a spiritual war being waged throughout the entire world. We as believers must recognize that our enemy is very real, but through Christ, we have the power to fight effectively.

The Scriptures reveal that Satan and a whole empire of evil spirits oppose God and His kingdom. However, the enemies are fallen angels; while we shouldn’t underestimate their abilities, we must not be deceived into thinking of their power as greater than it actually is. Fallen angels are no match for God. When the Lord rebuked demonic forces that were causing torment, they were forced to obey. Jesus gave His disciples authority over these spirits (Luke 10:17-20), and He gives the same to His followers today. First John 4:4 says that through the Holy Spirit, we have already overcome the enemy, because “greater is He who is in [the believer] than he who is in the world.” But if we fail to take up our position in Christ, we will feel overwhelmed and defeated.

Though Satan cannot have our souls, he will try to disable us. When we give in to temptation, he may say, “You’re a weak, unworthy sinner who will never be able to really serve God.” If we believe such accusations, we run the double risk of ceasing to listen to the voice of Truth and forgetting our real identity in Christ. Instead, we can resist the devil (James 4:7) and say to him, “I reject that! It came from you, and I rebuke you in Jesus’ name. What’s more, I take that thought captive to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). We have this authority!

Are You A Student Of The Bible?

Psalms_119-105: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path

Psalms_119-105: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105 (AMP)

Have you ever woke up in the middle of the night and tried to navigate your way through the darkness to go to the bathroom? You may find yourself stumbling more than once if there are no night lights. God’s Word functions very much like those night lights that help to illuminate the path to where you are trying to go.

Have you committed to living your life under the direction of the Word of God? If you have yet to make such a commitment, you too are living your life much like the one trying to walk through a dark room without any light to clearly show the way. When you don’t live by the light of God’s Word you are destined to stumble and fall throughout your life’s journey, because you can’t truly see where you are going. The World today is consumed by darkness, so you need the light of the Word of God to show you the path that God has ordained for you.

Be a student of the Bible. Take time everyday to read and meditate God’s Word. In doing so, God will lead you successfully through the dark paths of your life.

Prayer:

Father God, I pray that I live each day led by Your every Word. Let all of my decisions be in agreement with what You speak into my life and what You reveal to me in scripture. I commit to studying Your Word daily, so I can navigate my way through life successfully. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Discipline And Perseverance

2-Corinthians_12-9: And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me

2-Corinthians_12-9: And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but [only] one receives the prize? So run [your race] that you may lay hold [of the prize] and make it yours.”

I Corinthians 9:24 (AMP)

When an athlete trains to compete in a race, he does so fully conscious of the fact that he’s competing against others and with the full intention that he will win the prize. When we live our lives as followers of Christ, we are much like that athlete. We have a prize to obtain once this earthly life ends and we stand before the throne of God. God will reward us according to our works completed during our time on the earth. Knowing this we, like the runner in the race, must discipline and train ourselves to compete in this game of life with the sole purpose of winning and obtaining the reward God has for us.

In order to run in a race and actually win, you have to train and prepare to compete at your highest level. The only way to be a winner in this race called life is to live a life in obedience to God. That requires a commitment to live according to the Word of God. It takes discipline and training to make decisions that are honorable to God.

If you are willing to discipline yourself and make costly sacrifices in order to receive  rewards from men. You should be even more willing to do the same to receive the honor and reward that comes from God.

Prayer:

Father God, I pray that I run this race of life with the full determination to receive the victor’s crown of righteousness. Help me to live a disciplined and tempered life, always keeping my eyes on the prize and never allowing life’s circumstances to cause me to lose my focus on the end goal. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

O Lord, Make Me Ready To Receive The Blessing Which Thou Art So Willing To Bestow Upon Me

Jeremiah_32-27: Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

Jeremiah_32-27: Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?

2 Kings 3:16-17

And he said, Thus saith the Lord, Make this valley full of ditches. For thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye and your cattle, and your beasts.

The armies of the three kings were famishing for want of water: God was about to send it, and in these words the prophet announced the coming blessing. Here was a case of human helplessness: not a drop of water could all the valiant men procure from the skies or find in the wells of earth. Thus often the people of the Lord are at their wits’ end; they see the vanity of the creature, and learn experimentally where their help is to be found. Still the people were to make a believing preparation for the divine blessing; they were to dig the trenches in which the precious liquid would be held. The church must by her varied agencies, efforts, and prayers, make herself ready to be blessed; she must make the pools, and the Lord will fill them. This must be done in faith, in the full assurance that the blessing is about to descend. By-and-by there was a singular bestowal of the needed boon. Not as in Elijah’s case did the shower pour from the clouds, but in a silent and mysterious manner the pools were filled. The Lord has His own sovereign modes of action: He is not tied to manner and time as we are, but doeth as He pleases among the sons of men. It is ours thankfully to receive from Him, and not to dictate to Him. We must also notice the remarkable abundance of the supply-there was enough for the need of all. And so it is in the gospel blessing; all the wants of the congregation and of the entire church shall be met by the divine power in answer to prayer; and above all this, victory shall be speedily given to the armies of the Lord. What am I doing for Jesus? What trenches am I digging? O Lord, make me ready to receive the blessing which Thou art so willing to bestow.

Thine is tomorrow Lord

Psalms_34-8: O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Psalms_34-8: O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Thine is tomorrow Lord

It is in Thy control

If we are blessed to see

morrow

It is by Thy command.

This time is running fast

Carrying our souls away

O fill Thy servants with wisdom

That they may live for Thee.

The time that is passing

Rests the everlasting

O Lord with Thy power fill us

Revive the young and old.

One thing that we should seek

That we should now pursue

That time of Thy visit may not

Depart to come no more.

Let us flee to our Lord

And flee as fast as could

That our soul may not die and drown

Into intense darkness.

It Is Midnight; And On Olive’s Brow

Luke_2-11: For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Luke_2-11: For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

‘Tis midnight; and on Olive’s brow

The star is dimmed that lately shone;

Tis midnight, in the garden now,

The suffering Saviour prays

alone.

Tis midnight; and from all removed,

The Saviour wrestles alone with fears;

Even that disciple whom He loved

Heeds not his Master’s grief and tears.

‘Tis midnight; and for others guilt,

The Man of sorrows weeps in blood;

Yet He that hath in anguish knelt

Is not forsaken by His God.

Tis midnight; and from other plains

Is borne the song that angels know:

Unheard by mortals are the strains

That sweetly soothe the Saviours woe.

O Perfect Life Of Love

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

O Perfect Life Of Love!

All, all is finished now,

All that He left His throne above,

To do for us below.

No work is left undone

Of all the Father willed;

His toils and sorrows, one by one,

The Scriptures have fulfilled.

No pain that we can share

But He has felt its smart;

All forms of human grief and

care

Have pierced that tender heart.

And on His thorn-crowned head,

And on His sinless soul,

Our sins in all their guilt were laid

That He might make us whole.

In perfect love He dies;

For me He dies, for me!

O all atoning sacrifice,

I cling by faith to Thee.

In every time of need,

Before the judgment throne,

Thy work, O Lamb of God, I’ll plead,

Thy merits, not my own.

Yet work !, O  Lord, in me,

As Thou for me hast wrought;

And let my love the answer be

To grace Thy love his brought.

Glory be to Jesus

Revelation_4-11: Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created

Revelation_4-11: Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created

Glory be to Jesus,

Who, in bitter pains,

Poured for me the Life-blood

From His sacred veins.

Grace and life eternal

In that blood I find;

Blest be His compassion

Infinitely kind.

Blest through endless ages

Be the precious stream,

Which from endless torments

Did the world redeem.

Abel’s blood for vengeance

Pleaded to the skies;

But the blood of Jesus

For our pardon cries.

Oft as it is sprinkled

On our guilty hearts,

Satan in confusion

Terror-struck departs.

Oft as earth exulting

Wafts its praise on high,

Angel-hosts rejoicing,

Make their glad reply.

Lift ye then your voices;

Swell the mighty flood;

Louder still and louder

Praise the precious blood.

Dark Was The Night And Cold The Ground Where Jesus Christ Knelt Down

2-Corinthians_2-14: Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place

2-Corinthians_2-14: Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place

Dark was the night and cold the ground

Where Jesus Christ knelt down

His sweat was like great drops

of blood

In deep prevailing prayers.

Father, let this cup pass from

me

Thy will be done not mine.

If it be not so, I will drink

Thy will be done, not mine.

Sinner go see Him in the court

Stained, with His holy blood

He bore the heavy load for you

In deep humility.

Do, learn to bear the cross of shame

Do the Father’s good will

Then when temptation’s very close,

Wake up and watch and pray.

Great High Priest, we see Thee stooping

1-Corinthians_1-18: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God

1-Corinthians_1-18: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God

Great High Priest, we see Thee stooping,

With our names upon Thy breast;

In the garden groaning, drooping,

To the ground with horrors prest:

Wondering angels stood confounded,

To behold their Maker thus;

And can we remain unwounded,

When we know ‘twas all for us?

Nothing but Thy blood, O Jesus,

Can our wayward souls convert;

Nothing else from guilt release us,

Nothing else can melt the heart,

Law and terrors do but harden,

All the while they work alone;

But the sense of blood-bought pardon

Can dissolve a heart of stone.

Jesus, all our consolations

Flow from Thee, the sovereign good:

Love. and faith, and hope, and patience,

All are purchased by Thy blood

From Thy fullness we receive

them;

We have nothing of our own:

Freely Thou delight’st to give them

To the needy who have none,

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Hark! The Voice Of Love And Mercy

Sounds aloud from Calvary;

See, it rends the rocks asunder!

Shakes the earth and veils the

“It is finished!”

It is finished!”

Hear the dying Saviour cry.

“It is finished!” Oh, what pleasure

Do the wondrous words afford!

Heavenly blessings without measure

Flow to us through Christ the Lord,

“It is finished!”“It is finished!”

Saints the dying words record.

Tune your harps anew. ye

Seraphs:

Strike them to Emmanuel’s
