The plan seemed so wonderful at the time. During the summer of 1969, more than 100,000 people would camp out in a pristine glade in upstate New York where everyone would get along and love each other. This meeting was part of the hippie movement. Their slogans expressed noble ideals: love, not hate; peace, not war. One of its cornerstones was “free love.” Hippies thought they could find love through sex.
The Woodstock Festival culminated a national “Love-In.” But instead of the expected 100,000 hippies, 1.5 million long-haired young people wearing beads and feathers flooded the area for three days.
Was Woodstock really a place of peace and love? Peter Townsend…

Counting The Cost Of Being A Disciple

Counting the Costs Of Being A Disciple

If one of you is planning to build a tower, you sit down first and work out what it will cost, to see if you have enough money to finish the job, if you don’t you will not be able to finish the tower after laying the foundation; and all who see what happened will laugh at you. “This man began to build but can’t finish the job!” They will say…….in the same way, concluded Jesus, “none of you can be my disciple unless you give up everything you have”.

Luke 14:28-30; 33

Jesus is talking about counting the cost of being His disciple, but He
uses an illustration based on common sense. Any individual who is going
to take on an endeavour first of all sits down and writes out a budget.
Part of being a good steward over what God

Obedience Keeps Us Covered

Obedience Keeps Us Covered

Many people believe in the Bible, but it is important to act on the Bible. In order to build our lives in righteousness, we must walk in strict obedience to the Word of God. By doing so, we will gain the covering of the protection of the Lord. God is continuously trying to bring protection, peace and joy into our lives, but when we walk outside of the laws of His kingdom, He is restricted by our own actions. God made us free moral agents with a will to choose of our own accord. Our lives become the sum total of the choices that we have made, yet many of us still blame God for the delays and disappointments in our lives. The foundation of our lives will only be as strong as our obedience. To…

A High Hope

She thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed”. Mark 5:28

The Gospel of Mark tells the story of a woman who suffered from a bleeding disorder for many years. She was among a crowd following Jesus and believed, “If I can reach him—just touch his clothes—I’ll be healed.”

A risky decision, don’t you think? To touch Jesus she’ll have to touch the people. If one of them recognizes her—hello rebuke, good-bye cure! But what choice does she have?

She has no money, no clout, no solutions. All she has is a crazy hunch that Jesus can help and a high hope that he will!

Maybe that’s all you have—a crazy hunch that Jesus can help and a high hope. You have nothing to give. But you’re hurting. And all you have to…

Acts 19:11-12

“Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.”
NKJV

In this verse, we see that it is God who works the miracles out among people, not Paul. This is an interesting section of scripture that some have twisted for their own monetary gain in the selling of such items as prayer cloths and other “miracle producing items”. The miracles were not from the handkerchiefs nor from Paul, but from God. These were merely the instruments God used. We should desire to be God’s instrument. God used unexpected means to restore health to those who were ill.

The Bible is a supernatural book. Jesus, our leader who died and didn’t…

7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.
8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.

The world teaches you that if you’re cunning and slick enough, you can fool, trick, and deceive almost anybody. But, no matter how many people you may fool, God is never fooled! Whatever kind of seeds you plant, you can be sure that in time you will bear the same kind of fruit. If you sow ungodly seeds, you will reap ungodly fruit. If you spend all your time indulging your flesh – that which is temporal – in the end you will…

All of God’s power is wrapped up in the Gospel

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth…..(Romans 1:16)

Our Lord Jesus Christ told us to preach the gospel which is the “Good News” of what His death, burial and resurrection accomplished for humanity. The gospel is more than a nice moralistic story of what God’s Son did for humanity. According to the bible, the gospel is in itself the power of God unto salvation. The Word “Salvation” is the all-encompassing word that describes the totality of the good work God has wrought for us. This means that the totality of God’s power to do anything for any man is fully resident in the Gospel. It is this power that…

Is Christ In You?

“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Col.1:27)

The person in you has great effect on your performance. Whether your potentials will be realized or not, depends to a large extent on who is in you. If Christ is in you, it means the Anointed One is in you. It also means the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit, the Fire Generator is in you. With the presence of Christ in you, there is greater power inside you. 1 John 4:4 says, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world”. Your pay day will come

“For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed towards His name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.” (Hebrews 6:10)

Apart from the possibility of encountering an extraordinary blessing on an ordinary day, another lesson from the story of Moses recorded in Exodus 2:5-10, is that God has different ways of rewarding His own. Hebrews 6:10 says God does not forget your labour of love. Every seed you have sown into the kingdom shall attract its reward. Have you been a blessing to your spiritual parents? You shall be rewarded. Every work or effect, as long as it is an act of faith, will elicit Heaven’s reward. After Moses was born, his mother was able to see beyond the physical that he was a child of destiny and so…

God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit (John 4:24)

Someone has said that we are not human beings trying to have a spiritual experience but spiritual beings trying to have a human experience. The life force within you came from God, Who is Spirit. So in the act of worship. It’s like going back to your beginnings and reconnecting with Him.

The story is told of a little boy sitting beside the crib of his newborn baby sister. He whisper to her, “Tell me what God is like, for I have forgotten.”

Jesus said, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit (out of the depths of your spirit).

When asked how he could score over eighty points for his team in a single game, basketball superstar Michael Jordan replied, “Because I was in the zone”. In a sense, heartfelt…

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalms 119:105

God Has Stacked the Deck!

Followers of Jesus Christ have a tremendous advantage that allows us to navigate the peaks and valleys of this world. God in His infinite wisdom created a manual for living that encompasses life from its beginning to its end.

It tells us all the attributes of the God we serve, chronicles His walk on earth and prescribes our path to eternal salvation. His manual covers all aspects of life. It leaves us without any want for knowledge.

Yet in spite of God’s best efforts, many believers are confused and disheartened. Our confusion comes from not reading the Scriptures for all they are worth.

The Lord urges us to meditate on His Word. It is a “lamp onto our feet and a light unto our path” (Psalms 119:105). When…

JOHN 5:28-47

This is in reference to the fact that Jesus came in the power and authority of His father to point men to Father God. Jesus existed before His advent on this earth in the form of God and was equal with God. Yet, He humbled Himself and became a servant while here on earth (Phil. 2:6-8).

He did not come to promote Himself but to give His life to provide the way to the Father (Jn. 14:6)…

Keeping Up With the Joneses

be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I
am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and
to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which
strengtheneth me

Philippians 4:11-13

People get into financial trouble when they violate the scriptural principle of not coveting. To covet is to long after something. We’re
supposed to fix our desire upon Jesus. He is the one whom we long after
and follow.

The mentality of the world (and a lot of believers stay in the way of
the world) is that they have to keep up with the Joneses. Or else they
have big eyes, desiring everything…

Our Home, God’s Church

The church is not a gathering of strangers, like fans at a ball game who just happen to be sitting next to each other. The church is a community of individuals spiritually linked together with the purpose of reflecting and legislating the values of the kingdom of God.

The church is critical in the process of growing mature disciples who imitate Jesus Christ because Jesus is relational. Jesus Himself stated the key identifier that would tell us who were His disciples and who were not, and that is our love for one another.

God’s people are so vitally connected that we’re like members of the same physical body. The parts of your body are in a relationship with the other parts. Just smash your thumb or stub your toe, and you’ll have a good biblical reminder of the interrelationship of your bodily members. Once…

Payment in full

God is merciful

Peter asked Jesus how many times he had to forgive someone. Peter thought that forgiving seven times was pretty good. “No!” Jesus answered, “seventy times seven!” Then Jesus gave an illustration showing how God views our responsibility to forgive.

A king became aware that one of his servants owed him a significant amount, so he ordered the servant brought before him and demanded the servant pay every penny. The servant could not pay so the king ordered the man and his family sold into slavery to pay the debt. The servant fell before the king and pleaded for mercy. The king felt pity and forgave him the tremendous debt.

The servant found a fellow servant who owed him and demanded payment. The friend begged for…

“But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away with.”

Most all of us hate change. We like our routines and desire to walk through life not having to change it up too often. Maybe this is because we like to feel we are in control and anything we are not ready for frightens us. Well friend, there is something coming that I pray you are ready for. This change will affect you, me and everyone on the face of our planet. It’s something far more powerful than a war or natural disaster, in fact, it’s not a something at all – it’s a someone.

So the town council passed a law saying that 80km/h was the maximum speed, and that any transgressors would be fined N 10,000.00 for every km/h over the speed limit. On his way back through the town, the speedstar decided to pull the same prank. He was apprehended, tried and found guilty by his father, who was the town’s only judge. He was fined N 1,000,000.00 and because he had no money and no word of defence the teenage boy was led off to prison.

As he sat in despair in prison, his father appeared at the gate, and told him he had sold…
