“Daddy, Are They Coming to Kill Us?” How Armed Robbers Invade My Home This Morning, Traumatised my Family
It was 3:39 a.m. (today, April 26, 2026) when I woke with a jolt. Something felt wrong. A shadow moved across my window.
“Who’s there?” I called out. No answer.
Then I saw them. Five men leaping out of my compound. Two of them had guns on their shoulders. For a brief second, I convinced myself they were security operatives. They often patrol our estate at that hour. But something about them did not feel right.
I alerted my brothers immediately. Within seconds, we switched on the security lights. Silence followed, thick and unsettling.
Then came the voices. “Open the door, or we shoot you.” They pointed a gun at my brother through the window.”
My heart pounded. Confusion. Fear. Helplessness. As they tried to force their way in, one of them saw my daughter and ordered her to come and open the door.
She turned to me, her small voice trembling: “Daddy, are they coming to kill us?”
In that moment, something broke inside me. Tears filled my eyes, not because of what we might lose, but because of the fear that would live with them long after that night.
Then the door finally gave way after several efforts. They stormed in, many of them, while others waited outside, carrying guns and machetes. Their voices were harsh, urgent and merciless.
“Where is the money?” “Bring it or we’ll kill all of you.” We had no choice. One after the other, they stripped us of everything, cash, phones and laptops and other valuables. Still, they demanded more, threatening to kill us if we held anything back.
When they were finally satisfied, they disappeared into the fading darkness of dawn, leaving behind silence, fear and pain.
I looked at my wife, kids and siblings. “Is anyone hurt?” “No,” they said.
And in that moment, all I could say was, thank God.
In all this, I must commend the men of the Nigeria Police Force. Though the information got to them a bit late, their response, arriving within minutes, gave me a glimmer of hope that this country can still be better.
And to those men, those prodigal sons of violence, you may have left with our belongings, but you also left behind something far heavier, a trauma my wife, my children and my siblings will carry for a long time.
For anyone who receives any message or call from my numbers, 08024305915 or 09061101311 or email, please disregard it until I welcome back my lines and have full control.
But one thing is certain, one day, the hunter will become the hunted.
God is still God! We are safe.
