Sons of God

You received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba,” Father.

Romans 8:15, NIV

What makes you and I  think we can do without a personal prayer life? It’s through prayer that we come into a personal, intimate relationship with our heavenly Father.

Do you long to have a closer relationship with God, but you don’t feel worthy? Are you convinced you are a nobody and therefore would never be accepted, much less welcomed, into His presence?

Praise God! Our entrance into His presence is not based on our own worthiness but on the worthiness of Jesus Christ! When we enter God’s presence in Jesus’ name, we are as accepted by God as Jesus is, because God counts us as His own dear children!

Jesus invites you and I, in His name, to come into His Father’s presence through prayer, crawl up into His lap by faith, put our head on His shoulder of strength, feel His loving arms of protection around us, call Him “Abba” Daddy, and pour out our hearts to Him.

God Is The Only One That Can Promote You

DRAWN BY God’s POWER

Mark 1:37, “And when they had found him, they said unto him, All [men] seek for thee.”

MK. 1:35-39; LK. 4:42-44

This is an amazing statement. Jesus‘ ministry was only a few months old and the masses of people were already seeking him out.

This is even more astonishing when you realize that Jesus had not used any of the conventional methods of publicity. In fact, Jesus had already rejected publicity during His first ministry in Jerusalem (Jn. 2:24-25). There was no natural explanation for Jesus’ success.

God is the one who promoted Jesus. And He used supernatural means to do it. It was not the slick techniques of Madison Avenue that brought the crowds–it was the awesome manifestation of God’s power.

Just the day before, Jesus had cast the demon out of a man at the synagogue in Capernaum (Mk. 1:21-28). This caused the whole city to gather at Peter‘s house and Jesus healed every one of them (Lk. 4:40).

Jesus’ display of the miraculous power of God was the spark that the Holy Spirit used to light a fire in the hearts of these people. Jesus had this power because of His intimate relationship with His father. It is no accident that He was praying while all men were seeking Him.

As you seek to touch others with the new life that you’ve found in Christ, let God confirm His Word with the miraculous manifestations of His power through you

Be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Filled with the Holy Spirit

Ephesians 5:18, NIV

God has clearly commanded you and me to “be filled with the Spirit.” But an unconfessed sin or resistance to His authority will block the “flow” of His life within us. If we do not deal with it, our spiritual lives become stagnant and we lose our attractiveness and usefulness to God. And we have nothing refreshing about us that would draw other people to Christ.

What is hindering you from being filled with the Holy Spirit? To be filled with the Holy Spirit is to be under His moment-by-moment control. He has not been given to you so that you can keep Him confined to a particular area in your life. Let Him loose! He is Lord! The amount of power you experience to live a victorious, triumphant Christian life is directly proportional to the freedom you give the Spirit to be Lord of your life!

Pray for Guidance

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort.

2 Corinthians 1:3

In order for cultures to become violent, barbaric, and uncaring, they have to be trained in violence, barbarism and selfishness.

In Amos 1:11 God points out that when we “pursue with the sword” we “stifle all compassion.” He was not pleased and “his anger raged continually and his fury flamed unchecked.” He was speaking of the city of Tyre, but He could have been speaking of any of today’s youth. In our movies, video games, television and music, the culture of fury is glorified. Violence is presented as the one and only solution to problems. Pursuing our neighbors with “swords” is glorified over compassion, forgiveness and understanding. Is it any wonder that our youth load guns instead of playing with one another?

Our nation was founded on positive values-life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It is important to return to these God-given pursuits, and we need to ask for His help.

As a society, we need to demonstrate love, not violence. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in choosing forms of entertainment that are pleasing to God.

Suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, . . . and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:2-4, NKJV

On The Wings Of Faith

I understand that a turkey and an eagle react differently to the threat of a storm. A turkey reacts by running under the barn, hoping the storm won’t come near. On the other hand, an eagle leaves the security of its nest and spreads its wings to ride the air currents of the approaching storm, knowing they will carry it higher in the sky than it could soar on its own.

Based on your reaction to the storms of life, which are you?

A turkey or an eagle?

It’s natural for me to be a turkey in my emotions, but I have chosen to be an eagle in my spirit. And as I have spread my wings of faith to embrace the “Wind,” placing my trust in Jesus and Jesus alone, I have experienced quiet, “everyday” miracles:

His joy has balanced my pain.

His power has lifted my burden.

His peace has calmed my worries.

So . . . would you spread your wings of faith and soar?!

Unclean Spirits

Mark 1:23, “And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out;….”

MK. 1:21-28; LK. 4:33-37

Many people don’t associate demon possessed people with places of worship. Yet most of the demons that Jesus cast out were encountered in the church. Why would demon possessed people be in church?

In some cases, the people were there because they were seeking help. The church, like a hospital, offers people the cure and therefore, attracts those who are sick.

In other cases, the devil sows these types of people in the church to spread spiritual disease. A church that is teaching the true Word of God should either try to evangelize these individuals or make them so convicted that they move on. Sad to say, demon possessed people can thrive in most religious settings today.

We always need to show love for the sinner as Jesus did, but we should cut the devil no slack. If a person wants to keep an evil spirit on the inside of them, they should not feel at home in church.

Let the Spirit of God live through you as He did through Jesus and you will either make people mad or glad, but there will not be indifference.

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty

THE CHOSEN ONES

Mark 1:16, “Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.”

MT. 4:13-22; MK. 1:16-20; LK. 5:27; JN. 5:38

Jesus never chose an apostle from among the religious system. Every one of his twelve disciples were men that He chose from the secular world. It wasn’t because God didn’t have faith in those who were religious. It’s just that most of those who were part of the religious system didn’t have any faith in God.

One of the most common mistakes religious people make is to put faith in themselves. They think God will use them because of their great holiness or special abilities.

Paul said, “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, [yea], and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are” (1 Cor. 1:27-28).

People who recognize their own inabilities are of necessity more dependent on God. That is the way God wants it. The Lord is constantly searching for someone who recognizes they are nothing so He can do something through them (2 Ch. 16:9).

Instead of thinking of your responsibilities, just respond to His ability

Trust and Rely on God‘s Word

James 1:6,7 “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”

Being double minded means that the mind of your flesh is trying to divert your Spirit mind away from what God is saying. Yes, you have two minds and depending on which one you feed the most, will determine which one has the greatest influence. You have to be lead by the Spirit, trusting and relying on God’s word if you want to see the promises of God manifest in your life.

God is spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth

John 4:24, “God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.”

JOHN 4:4-26

Man dwells primarily in the physical and emotional realm, but God is a Spirit (1 Sam. 16:7). To have true fellowship with God, we have to relate to God on the spiritual level.

In order to make this possible, God changed our spirit. At salvation, our spirit became totally new (11 Cor. 5:17). It is now righteous and truly holy (Eph. 4:24). It is now exactly the way Jesus is, because our born again spirit is the spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Jn. 4:17; 1 Cor. 6:17; Rom. 8:9; Gal. 4:6).

In our spirits we are worthy to come before God and worship Him without any fear. Our spirit is the only part of us that is worthy. That’s why we must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

When we come before God dwelling on all our failures and problems, we are not approaching Him through our spirit. Our spirit is not our problem. Our born again spirit is perfect.

There is a place for mentioning our problems and failures but it’s not the part of us that has been saved and is in fellowship with God. We must always base our relationship with the Father on who we are in our spirit through Christ Jesus.

God looks inside of us

John 4:19, “The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.”

JOHN 4:4-26

This didn’t take any great discernment on the woman’s part. Jesus had just “read her mail”. He told her the most intimate details of her life. Anyone could have perceived Jesus was a prophet after something like that.

This woman suddenly realized that she was dealing with more than just a man. God was speaking to her. What was her reaction? She changed the subject. She brought up a doctrinal issue concerning the proper place to worship–anything to get Jesus’ attention off of her.

We all have a tendency to build walls of privacy around the intimate details of our lives. We are afraid to let anyone, especially God, look inside. But God already knows and He wants all of our heart.

Jesus brought this woman right back to the subject of her personal relationship with God. The place of worship or the forms of worship weren’t important. God was looking for people who would open their hearts–even the hidden parts–for Him to inhabit.

Likewise today, Satan tries to get us occupied with everything except the one thing that counts. God wants us to worship Him in spirit and truth. Anything less than that is not enough

But unto every one is given according to the measure of the gift of Christ (Ephesians 4:7)

But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ (Ephesians 4:7)

You have special abilities!

The Living Bible translation renders the opening scripture this way “However, Christ has given each of us special abilities; whatever He wants us to have out of His rich storehouse of gifts.”  I like that term, “Special abilities,” for it lets us know that there’s not single one of God’s children that is lacking in ability. You may never have thought about the fact that God has given you special abilities, but let it dawn on you today that there’s special abilities in you which came into your life when you were born again and received the Holy Spirit.

The Bible says “But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you”. (Acts 1:8 AMP). What you need do is recognize and agree with what the Word says; tell yourself “God has given me special abilities, and I’m putting these abilities to work in my life.” Remember that God doesn’t have a duplicate of you; He has deposited in you gifts and abilities that set you apart and make you do things in a unique way. What a wonderful blessing! You can express the beauty of God from your spirit in a way that no one else can.

Never look at yourself and think there’s nothing special about you; don’t compare yourself with someone else. God has given you special abilities and it’s up to you to let them show, and make impact in the kingdom of God.

CONFESSION

I thank You Father for depositing within my spirit, special abilities according to the measure of the gift of Christ. No task or endeavour is beyond me for I have in me the grace and supernatural ability I require for every task, in Jesus Christ Name I pray! Amen!

We are the clay, and You are our Potter O Lord God

Imagine a beautiful china tea cup saying: “I wasn’t always like this. There was a time when I was just a cold, hard lump of clay. One day the potter picked me up and said, ‘I could do something with you’ Then he started to put pressure on me and change my shape. I said, ‘What are you doing? That hurts. Stop!’ but he said, ‘Not yet’. Then he put me on a wheel and began to spin me around and around until I shouted, ‘Let me off.’ He replied, ‘Not yet’. Then he shaped me into a cup and put me in a hot oven. I cried, ‘Let me out of here, I’m suffocating.’ But he looked at me and said, ‘Not yet.’ When he took me out, I thought his work on me was over, but then he started to paint me. I couldn’t believe what he did next. He put me back into the oven, and I said, ‘I can’t stand this, please let me out!’ but he said, ‘Not yet.’ Finally he took me out of the oven and set me on a shelf where I thought he had forgotten me. Then one day he took me off the self and held me up before a mirror. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I had become a beautiful teacup that everybody wants to buy.

There are things going on in your life today that you don’t understand. When you finally get to the place God wants you to be, you’ll realise that He has been making you into a vessel He can use, bless, and use to bless others. So, allow God to shape you today!

SUFFERING IS UNNECESSARY!

For we which have believed do enter into rest, as He said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the World (Hebrews 4:3)

Everything required for your success has already been provided by God. The works were finished from the foundation of the world. Now, when the Bible says the works were finished from the foundation of the world, as in the scripture above, it means you don’t have to struggle in life, for everything concerning your success, health and prosperity has been taken care of. You’ve entered God’s rest; you’re not called to suffer defeat in life.

Everything you need for success and prosperity has been made available: “According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:3)

For the Christian, suffering is absolutely unnecessary. If you’d pay attention to God’s Word and make certain to do what He says, you’d live a fulfilled life. Believe and receive this truth today with faith. You’ve been established on the path of success and victory. God did it ever before you came on the scene. He made you a success and ordained your prosperity before you were born. Nothing in this life is too good for you, for you’re the seed of Abraham, called to a life of power, glory and virtue.

Prayer

Dear Lord and Father, I praise You and rejoice at Your Word that has made me realize Your eternal plans of success, prosperity, progress and victory for my life. I’m grateful to know that You’ve already ordained me to a life of victory and triumph, in Jesus Christ Name! Amen!

Salvation is for all men

Salvation is for all men

That if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, thou shall be saved (Romans 10:9)

Some people believe salvation is only for certain people; that God already numbered those that’ll be saved, and those reserved for eternal damnation; but that’s not truth. You might then ask, “So what did Jesus mean when He said, “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him…” (John 6:44). Doesn’t that mean the Father appoints some people to salvation, and separates some others unto destruction? No! Salvation is for all men. God’s desire is for ALL men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.

In John 3:16, the Bible didn’t say, “For God so loved some men…” ; rather it says “For God so loved the world…..” ; the world of men, ALL men, including women, boys and girls. The Father’s love is for the whole world; the world of sinners. So when Jesus said “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him….” (John 6:44), the right question to ask is, “Now does God draw men unto Himself?”

The answer is in the 45th verse of the same John 6 that says, “It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me” God draws men to Himself through His Word; through His message as encapsulated in the Gospel. When the Gospel is preached, those who hear, believe it, and endorse it by confessing the Lordship of Jesus Christ over their lives are drawn. So, the choice as to who receive salvation rests with every individual.

In Paul’s letter to Timothy, he said “…..God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3-4). This is the very reason we herald the message of the Gospel. As you plan your vacation and visitation this Christmas time, have the Gospel in mind. Make it a memorable Christmas for those around you who are yet to receive salvation, letting them know it’s God’s desire for them to receive the best gift of all, this Christmas – Eternal Life!

The Bible says “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” (Romans 10:14). You’re that preacher to those in your world; to bring them the glorious news of Christ’s salvation.

Prayer

Thank You Dear Heavenly Father for the immense love You clearly demonstrated in sending Jesus to be the propitiation for my sins, thus making me a participator in the divine experience. I’m most grateful for this glorious privilege, in Jesus Christ’s Name! Amen!

Jesus is real. Blessed are they that have not seen and yet have believed

Jesus is real. Blessed are they that have not seen and yet have believed

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed (John 20:29)

A certain man hated everything about Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. His wife was a Christian but he wouldn’t let her go to church. One day, his wife went for a crusade close by, without telling him. He got furious and stormed the venue, combing through the crowd in search of his wife. Suddenly, a loud cry rent the air and everyone turned to see what had happened. They saw the man shouting, “He’s real! He’s real! Jesus is real!!!”  Apparently, Jesus had appeared to him and let him know sins were forgiven.

It took an appearance of Jesus to make the man believe, but he didn’t have to wait to experience something that spectacular for him to believe. It’s like the story of Thomas who didn’t believe the Lord had risen from the dead until He appeared to him (John 20:26-29).

You don’t have to wait to experience the spectacular before you believe God loves you and wants to fill your life with goodness and with benefits. The only evidence you need is His Word. Remember, the Bible says,Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). Don’t wait to have your pocket or bank account filled with a lot of money before you declare your prosperity in Christ Jesus! Don’t wait for the symptoms to disappear before you proclaim your healing! Declare that you have life, health, peace and joy NOW!, and your faith will produce results.

Confession

I’m a new creature in Christ Jesus, awakened to the fatherhood of God. All things are mine because I’m Abraham’s seed. I look through the eyes of faith and see my glorious inheritance in Christ Jesus! Amen!

Leaving school, parting, deathlike, calls up tears. It’s my Birthday

Today is my Birthday!

Hip! Hop!! Hooray!!!

I’m a year older and wiser too!  I have been thinking what story should I write to commemorate with such a special day, but couldn’t up with something. So I dug into my archives and dug out this article I wrote eight years ago. Unedited, I hope you will enjoy it.

Leaving school, parting, deathlike, calls up tears!

Leaving school, moving houses, ending a relationship and going away generally leave a sour taste in the mouth and tears in the eyes, it makes one feel a loss akin to death.

And now as I write this, I am thinking of my friends and foes alike who have graduated and who are currently serving their motherland (NYSC) National Youth Service Corps.

Thinking of them makes me realise the transient nature of things. The here-now-gone-tomorrow phenomenon that is life.

I think of the first loud yelp that ushers man into this life and I recall that most of us shed tears on our first day in secondary school (some even cried in the university).

If life is fun, why do babies cry when they are born? I’m waiting for answers fellas!

Then, my mind goes to a baby’s feeble attempts to crawl, to walk and run – A provocation of the toils of the years. Think of the JAMB/SAT/TOEFL hurdle that is crossed and sealed. The sweat toil to get good grades and move from one level to the other.

Then the finals!

The frenetic pace.

The project to be written, typed and bound. Seminar preparation and presentations. Then the examinations. The waiting and the results .Bad ones, good ones, sad ones and the happy ones.

The good and happy ones graduate. There is the convocation, the unemployment, the employment, marriage, kids, retirement, the farewells. Then finally the Adieu!

Isn’t life such a sweet tumultuous journey!

What a struggle!

Be confident of this very thing that God who has started this good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ

Being confident of this very thing, that He which has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6)

It’s impossible for you to fail

This should be one of our favourite scriptures. It should always remind us of the fact that we’re not walking alone, and assures us that God is more interested in our successes than we could ever be. The Lord is the One perfecting our lives, ensuring success in everything we do. Hence, it’s impossible for us to fail!

Well, your personal experience of life may have been one of failure. However, the Bible says “…as He (Jesus) is so are we in this world” (1 John 4:17). Jesus never failed and there wasn’t a moment in His earthly ministry He wished He never came. You also must come to the realization that you shouldn’t fail; failure is inconsistent with your new nature in Christ Jesus.

Ignorance is what leads some Christians into difficulty. Hosea 4:6, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…”without the adequate knowledge of the Word, you can fail or remain in poverty or even be bound by one form of sickness or the other. So many have died this way in ignorance.

You need to know that God doesn’t get any glory from our failures or sufferings. He is glorified every time we take our stand on His Word!

Get into the Word today and walk everyday of your life in the glory of Our Heavenly Father! Amen!

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for bringing me out of darkness into Your marvellous light. Through the knowledge of the glorious gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, I stay strong and victorious every day. I’m more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus, and I declare that I will not fail, in Jesus Christ Name! Amen!

May Our God The Almighty prosper Nigeria and Israel and defend us from all our enemies in Jesus Christ Name, Amen!

The power of humility

“For by grace given me I say to every one of you. Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself only with sober judgement in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.”  Romans 12:3

Humility is the opposite of pride. It is a mental attitude of holiness and its major characteristic is not thinking of oneself more highly than one ought to.

Jesus said to the woman with a possessed daughter “it is not right to give bread to a dog.” many would call that a mean statement. At that point she could have reacted negatively to the degrading statement made by Jesus, but she did not. The humility with which she accepted the statement, made Jesus confirm her faith “O woman great is thy faith, be it unto thee even as thou wilt” and her daughter was made whole immediately.

It is humility that brings a soul to nothing before God, which also removes every hindrance to faith. One can only wonder what would have become of her daughter if she had reacted in pride like many would have.

Pride does not pay; the path to a higher life is from down upward, this is because; humility is the key to total sanctification and exaltation.

I must decrease that He (Christ) might increase!

Faith. A demonstration of God’s Word

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1)

The Scripture above is the best definition of faith you can get. God had to define it for us because He knew we weren’t going to get a better definition in the world. A substance is a real physical matter that you can touch or relate with. If faith is the substance of your hope, it means faith is a real thing; it’s the tangible expression of your hope.

The Bible tells us of Father Abraham, who “being not weak in faith, considered not his body now dead, when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God” (Romans 4:19-20). Abraham tangibly expressed his hope by giving praise to god; he didn’t allow his physical condition to discourage him. If there’s no substance or tangible expression to your hope, then there is no faith.

Faith is the evidence – the title deed of things not seen. A title deed is a legal document proving your right to a property; it maybe a piece of land or a house. This document authenticates your claim to the property. The same way, the Word of God is enough proof that you have what God has given to you. It doesn’t matter if others don’t believe you because they can’t see it, you already have the evidence and that’s what matters! Amen!

Confession

My faith is strong and operative. I refuse to cower in fear or timidity when faced with challenges or adverse situations, but I rise to the occasion, knowing that I am what God says I am and I have what He says I have and can do what He says I can do, in Jesus Christ Name! Amen!
