Unusual Messengers! Sermon And Prayer Points By Pastor Adeboye.

“And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.” 1 Kings 17:4

Read: 1 Kings 17:1-5
1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
2 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.
4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.
5 So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

 
MESSAGE:
Messengers are stewards often sent to speak, act, or deliver a message on behalf of their master.

 
In addition to the angelic beings that God normally sends as messengers to speak, deliver messages, or carry out specific assignments, He also uses humans and other living or non-living beings as messengers.

 
The purpose of God’s legitimate messengers is always to inform, enable, protect, empower, and guide the people of God.

 
But they are sent occasionally to punish.

I pray that you will never do anything to provoke divine judgement in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

The most prominent among God’s messengers are prophets, humans and angelic beings.
However unusual messengers are sometimes deployed by God to carry out special assignments.

 
1 Kings 17:4-6 says,
“And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there… And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.”

 
In the above passage, the most unusual messengers- ravens were the stewards sent to provide food for Elijah in the wilderness.

 
Ravens are large heavily built carnivorous birds of the corvine family.
God used a great fish, gourd plant, worm and a vehement east wind as unusual messengers to teach Jonah the lesson of his life in Jonah 4:6-8.

Jonah 4:6-8
And the Lord God prepared a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be shade for his head to deliver him from his misery. So Jonah was very grateful for the plant. But as morning dawned the next day God prepared a worm, and it so damaged the plant that it withered. And it happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah’s head, so that he grew faint. Then he wished death for himself, and said, “It is better for me to die than to live.”

He used another unusual messenger to play an important role in the story of Balaam in Numbers 22:19-35.

 
Numbers 22:27-28 says;
“…and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff. And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?”

The use of supernatural beings and natural elements as God’s messengers therefore underscores God as the Lord of Hosts, with the special ability to make all things work in favour of His beloved children.

Therefore, give your life to Jesus today, and become one of God’s beloved.

Then you can be sure that all things will begin to work together for your good according to the Word of God in Romans 8:28.

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Prayer Point:
Father, please command all things to work together for my good and the fulfilment of my destiny in The Name of Jesus. Amen!

GOD IS FAITHFUL. God Answers Prayer.

Jeremiah_33-3: Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not

Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.
(Jeremiah 33:3 NKJV)

 
George Muller, a founder of Christian orphanages, believed only God could supply the needs of his ministry. In five great houses he provided for two thousand children. But he never personally asked donors to supply food, clothing, repairs or any other need. Rather, he prayed, totally depending on God to provide.

One night he retired to bed with the knowledge that his cupboards were bare. It appeared there would be no breakfast for his children the following morning. But Muller knew that his ministry was in the hands of God. So he prayed about it and had a good night’s sleep.

The next morning, George Muller rose at his usual early hour and took a walk. He came across a friend, and the two men began to talk. Muller’s friend suddenly mentioned that he had a contribution for the orphanage. He said, “I’ve been meaning to give you this money.”

On another occasion, Muller had the children wash their hands and sit down for their meal, even though there was no food. At that very moment a meat cart broke down right outside the orphanage door. The driver knocked, and he told Muller he had a cart full of meat that would spoil if not eaten soon. The children ate well that morning.

During his lifetime, George Muller’s prayer log grew to ten thousand answered prayers! He saw every detail of life with an uncompromised faith perspective, and he claimed God’s promises at every opportunity. Therefore he experienced the joy of God’s miracles on almost a daily basis.

GOD IS ABSOLUTE TRUTH

Psalms_86-11-1: Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.

What is Absolute Truth?

John_8-32: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

“What is truth?” Pilate asked.
(John 18:38)

 
If you were asked to describe absolute truth, what would you say? By what standard can we measure truth to determine if it is truth?

No matter which way you approach an absolutely true statement, it remains unassailably true. When we say that our God is absolutely truthful, we mean above everything else that He is internally consistent in His character and being.

But not every true statement qualifies as absolute truth. For example, if you said, “Today, the interest rate for home mortgages is at 6.0 percent,” that could be true for someone living in America. But for someone living in Brazil, the interest rate might be 50-plus percent.

On the other hand, if you say, “Adultery is always wrong,” you would be stating an absolute truth. Whether you live in Bangladesh, Japan, or the United States, adultery is still wrong. Adultery was just as wrong a thousand years ago as it is today.

No human can think up or discover a new truth. Truth has always existed in God’s nature; He is the author of truth. We must always measure our beliefs by the truth in God’s Word. Since He is the author of truth and since absolute truth resides in Him, He is the only One who can guide us to absolute truth. With Him, we see truth face to face. Any other guide will only lead us into confusion and deception.

Whatever God says is absolutely right. Whatever He promises will always be fulfilled.

God Cannot Be Manipulated.

Luke_6-37: Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven

“The LORD our God is just in everything He does.”
(Daniel 9:14)

 
In one of the worst travesties in American justice, four young men from Chicago with no history of violence were convicted of kidnapping, rape, and double murder. The bullet-riddled bodies of a young couple were found on May 12, 1978. Acting on an anonymous telephone tip, the police arrested the four suspects. News reports declared that the crime had been solved. The men were convicted, and two were sentenced to death row. Appeals failed; all looked hopeless.

But in September 1981, a tattered envelope arrived at the offices of the Chicago Lawyer magazine. That letter led Rob Warden, editor and publisher of the Chicago Lawyer, and Dennis Protess, professor at Northwestern School of Journalism, to investigate the case. They uncovered substantial evidence that ultimately exonerated the four convicts.

Finally, on July 2, 1996, Judge Thomas Fitzgerald ended the defendants’ fight against an unjust sentence by reading, “All the convictions are vacated.” The four prisoners were free! The next day, the state attorney’s office charged the real killers.

Justice is a pillar of any society. It vindicates the innocent and punishes the guilty. All too often though, this standard is compromised for personal gain. Corrupt judges sometimes tilt the scales of justice; unscrupulous lawyers manipulate laws and juries; witnesses lie. Truth is often distorted to benefit the powerful.

Today, since our legal system can often be manipulated, many people mistakenly believe they can manipulate God’s justice. But oh, how wrong they are! You can always count on God to act according to His perfectly just character.

9. Father, let Your blessings locate me wherever l am, in the city, in the field, etc, in Jesus’ name.

 
10. Father, help me to honour You regularly and as at when due with my tithe, my offerings, my first fruits, my time, etc, in Jesus’ name.

 
11. Father let every garment and yoke of lack and poverty, in my life and family be broken and totally destroyed today, in Jesus’ name.

 
12. I decree that, it shall be well with me, my tomorrow will be alright, and l shall eat the fruits of my labours, in Jesus’ name.
