Understanding The Time

Understanding The Time

TEXT: Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8.

INTRODUCTION: Our God is a God of orderliness. There is time for everything and He has made everything beautiful in His time.

UNDERSTANDING THE TIME

Time is a resource we must give account of. From birth to death is a series of time events which must be accounted for before the Almighty God. Every circle of life: Childhood, adolescence and maturity will be accounted for. In each of the life-cycle are various responsibilities which God places on us. Since there was a time of birth, for everyone there must be a time of death also. We must, therefore, understand times and use them appropriately before it expires.

We must work at the time of work or rest at the time of rest.

Eccl.3: 1-8

1 Chro.12: 32.

We must work with the time since time does not wait for anybody. We must set goals to be accomplished within specified time limit and be focused.

Heb.2: 2

Jn.9: 4

CONCLUSION: Since God created time, it is best to use our times for Him.

Thank You Jesus.

Identifying The Voice Of God

Identifying The Voice Of God

TEXT: Jonah 1: 1-3.

INTRODUCTION: Today, we will learn how to differentiate between God’s voice and that of the devil; and we will tell us some reasons why people find it difficult to obey the voice of God even when they are sure it was God speaking to them.

HOW TO DIFFERENTIATE GOD’S VOICE FROM THAT OF THE DEVIL?

It is essential to know whether you are hearing God or a particular message is from the devil with the intention of misleading you or distracting your attention. Whenever God sends us a message or speaks to us, such a message will

(i) agree with the Holy Scriptures. Jonah 2: 1-2; Matt.4: 1-11; 2 Tim.3: 16-17; Ps.119: 11; Rom.15: 4; 1 Jn.5: 3.

(ii) You will have peace within

(iii) God could use other means of revelation to confirm or warn you. Rom.8: 14.

WHY DO PEOPLE DISOBEY THE VOICE OF GOD?
Even when people are really sure that God is the one speaking to them, they could still resist His will and refuse to carry out His injunctions. Some of the reasons why people disobey God may include:

(i) The love of earthly rewards. Numbers 22: 9-13, 2 Pet.2: 15.

(ii) Fear. 1 Samuel 15: 1-3, 1 Samuel 9, 1 Samuel 13-15, 1 Samuel 22.

(iii) Non-agreement with their expectation. Jonah 1: 1-3;  Jonah 4: 1-2; Acts.10: 9-16.

You may add to this list.

CONCLUSION: Obedience is better than sacrifice.

Thank You Jesus.

Knowing The Will Of God

Knowing The Will Of God

TEXT: Jonah 1: 1-17.

INTRODUCTION: Everyone in life wants to know if he or she is taking the right decision or moving in the right direction. God also desires that we should know His will for our lives in order to achieve His purpose and avoid crisis.

HOW CAN I HEAR FROM GOD?.
The scripture is full of examples of those who sought to know God’s will and how they heard God. These examples include:

– Divine appearance to men e.g. Abraham.
Genesis 18: 1.

– Through dream and visions e.g. Jacob.
Genesis 28: 10-15

Job 33: 15-16.

– Angels of God e.g. Angel of God appeared to help Joshua.
Joshua 5: 13-15

Fed Elijah twice.
1 Kings 19: 4-7

– A still small voice.
1 Kings 19: 11-13

– God’s inspiration.
2 Timothy 3: 16-17

– The Holy Spirit.
Romans 8: 14

Job 32: 8

What should I do to hear from God? You need to pray and when necessary, fast also. Matthew 7: 7-11

Daniel 10: 1-5

Praise God intensely.
2 Kings 3: 15-16

Give sacrificially.
2 Chronicle 1: 6-7

And be filled with the Holy Spirit.

CONCLUSION: You can know the will of God for your life. But are you willing to pay the price.

Thank You Jesus.

Grateful Heart

Grateful Heart

Text:
2 Corinthians 4:15-18
15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Ephesians 5:20
Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Introduction:
Some people don’t see any reason to be grateful to God when they are faced with challenges. This is because human beings generally use the wrong measurement to quantify God’s benevolence. Such flaws include categorizing God’s blessings as physical only while other salient benefits like miracles of sleeping and waking up are seen as irrelevant. May God help us to be ever grateful to Him in Jesus’s Name.

We Must Be Grateful To God For The Following Reasons;
1. Salvation, sanctification and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

2. Daily Christian growth unto maturity in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

3. Daily protection and provisions of all our needs.
Psalm 103:1-5
Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

5 Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

4. Fulfilment of His promises as He has stated in His word.
Matthew 17:20
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

5. Victory over visible and invisible enemies.
Colossians 1:12-13
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

6. Hope of eternal life after this world.
Colossians 1:27
To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

Conclusion:
Always count your blessings by naming them one by one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

Thank You Jesus.

Proverbs_18-10: The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe

Jehovah Nissi

Text:
Exodus 17:15

Psalm 91

Introduction:
Jehovah Nissi means the Lord is my Banner. In Exodus Chapter 17:15, Moses built an altar to celebrate victory over the Amalekites at Rephidim. The Amalekites were strong enemies of the Israelites who opposed them when they were coming out of Egypt. The Lord God Himself promised that He would destroy the Amalekites; and as a faithful God, He fulfilled His promises for Israel and Amalek was defeated.

What happened when we call on Jehovah Nissi
1. He will be our refuge and fortress. Psalm 91:2
2. He will deliver us from troubles. Psalm 91:3
3. He will cover and shield us from dangers. Psalm 91:4
4. He will keep us from all fears. Psalm 91:5
5. No evil will befall us. Psalm 91:10
6. We shall tread on our enemies, visible and invisible. Psalm 91:13
7. We shall always be on the top. Psalm 91:15
8. When we call on Him, He will answer us. Psalm 91:15
9. We shall enjoy long life and salvation of the Lord. Psalm 91:16

Conclusion:
Jehovah Nissi, our Banner and shelter in times of storm will not only give us victory but keep us from war if only we recognize His power to do so.

Thank You Jesus.

5 LANGUAGES OF LOVE

5 LANGUAGES OF LOVE

John 3:16a – “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son.”

1 Corinthians 13:13 – “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

With almost 40 years of marriage and counselling couples over the years, I have realized there are about 5 basic love languages, in other words, each of us have a love language that our spouse must know and speak if we are to feel emotionally loved and fulfilled.

These words are:

APPRECIATION
GIVING HELPING HANDS
RECEIVING GIFTS
QUALITY TIME
PHYSICAL TOUCH

This statement has been confirmed by renowned marriage counsellorGARY CHAPMAN”. He categorized these 5 languages of love as:

Words of affirmation
Acts of service
Receiving gifts
Quality time
Physical touch

I totally agree with Gary from the experience I have gathered from family members and couples that I have counselled over the years, this knowledge has really helped.

APPRECIATION/COMMENDATION

If your spouse’s love language is appreciation/commendation, you better commend him/her at all times for his/her efforts.

One way to express love emotionally is to use words that BUILD UP and make your spouse feel appreciated and loved. Solomon in proverbs 12:25 said ‘’an anxious heart weighs a man down but a kind word cheers him up.” Many couples have never learned the tremendous power of verbally affirming each other.

Verbal Compliments Or Words Of Appreciation are powerful communicators of love. They are best expressed in simple straight forward statements like: you look smart in that suit; this meal is delicious thank you.

The Word Encourage means ‘’to inspire courage’’. Encouragement requires empathy and seeing the world from your spouse’s perspective. We must first learn what is important to our spouse, only then can we give encouragement.

For example; statements like “that’s one of the things I like about you” “when you set your mind to do something, you do it right” “good job” such words will give your spouse the courage needed to achieve success. Women are generally endowed with multitasks capabilities.

For e.g. A working spouse, she plans accurately her time, supervises her household chores, on getting back does some of the chores herself, can cook variety of food simultaneously without any of them burning while taking official conference call.

After each meal, words like “what a delicious meal, I love you darling you are my Besto”, thank you darling/sweetheart and thank you mum/dad, love you mum, you are the best mum/dad, must always be said.

The same thing for the men, if your husband’s language of love is appreciation, words of appreciation must never depart from the mouth of the wife and children. For every effort made by him, from giving housekeeping allowance, to school fees, to changing of a burnt bulb etc.as long as he hears the words of appreciation from his wife and children, the man feels loved and ready to do more for the family.

But for that spouse (man or wife) whose language of love is not words of appreciation, no matter the number of times, you say thank you or I appreciate you, he/she doesn’t feel loved or appreciated.

GIVING HELPING HANDS

In old parlance, “Actions speak louder than words”. What will keep your spouse happy and emotionally stable is giving her a helping hand as often as your time permits. For e.g. An unhappy wife complained to a marriage counsellor “every day he tells me that he loves me, but he never does anything to help me.

He just sits on the couch watching TV while I wash the dishes and the thought never crosses his mind to help me. I’m sick of hearing ‘I love you’. If he loves me, he would do something to help me.” For this particular marriage not to hit the rocks, her husband must know the wife’s love language as “Giving helping hands

RECEIVING GIFTS

Although, giving and receiving gifts is one significant way of showing affection but it does not need to break the bank, just something simple. In every society through human history, gift giving has been perceived as an expression of love.

Giving gifts is universal, because there is something inside the human psyche that says if you love someone, you will give to him or her. Proverbs 18:16 – “A man’s gift makes room for him.”

What many people do not understand is that for some people, receiving gifts is their primary love language. It’s the thing that makes them feel loved most deeply. If you’re married to someone whose primary love language is gift giving,

you will make your spouse feel loved and treasured by giving gifts on birthdays, holidays, anniversaries and on occasion days. Little gifts mean a lot to a person whose primary love language is receiving gifts.

QUALITY TIME

If your spouse love language is quality time, giving him or her undivided attention is one of the best ways you can show your love.

A central aspect of quality time is togetherness. I do not mean proximity. Two people sitting in the same room are in close proximity but they are not necessary together. Togetherness has to do with focused attention. Like when a man is watching sports on television while he talks to his wife is not giving her quality time.

Quality time does not mean that we have to spend our together moments gazing into each other’s eyes, but giving our full attention to the other person for 10 -20 mins or as the situation demands. The activity is a vehicle that creates the sense of togetherness.

For example a husband and wife playing tennis together or going for a walk together in the evening, if it is genuine quality time, will focus on the fact that they are spending time together. What happens on the emotional level is what matters.

Effective communication is quite different from the first love language. While words of affirmation focuses on what is being said, whereas effective communication focuses on what we are hearing. It requires not only sympathetic listening but also self-revelation.

When a wife says I wish my husband would talk, I never know what he’s thinking or feeling, she is pleading for intimacy. She wants to feel close to her husband, who is not ready to communicate.

PHYSICAL TOUCH

We have long known the emotional power of physical touch. That’s why we pick up babies and touch them tenderly. Long before an infant understands the meaning of the word love, he or she feels loved by physical touch.

In marriage, the love language of physical touch includes everything from putting a hand on your mate’s shoulder as you walk by and holding hands while you’re walking, praying and embracing. If physical touch is your spouse’s primary love language, nothing communicates love more clearly than for you to take the initiative to reach out.

I will like to implore everyone to find out their love languages by visiting http://www.5lovelanguages.com

I pray that this knowledge will help strengthen our marriages and relationships. Amen!

Thank You Jesus.

Vengeance is the Lord’s

Vengeance is the Lord’s

Memorise

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. – Romans 12:19

Read

Ezekiel 25:12-14 (KJV)

12 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and hath greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them;

13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I will also stretch out mine hand upon Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and they of Dedan shall fall by the sword.

14 And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to mine anger and according to my fury; and they shall know my vengeance, saith the Lord GOD.

Bible in One Year

1 Chronicles 28-29

Proverbs 30:7-17

MESSAGE

Many passages of the Bible reiterate the fact that vengeance belongs to God alone. Because vengeance belongs to the Lord, it is His right to execute it. He said in Romans 12:19, “Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord.” Deuteronomy 32:35 also says, “To me belongs vengeance.” Even Psalms 94:1 says, “O Lord God, to whom vengeance belongs, show thyself”. God’s people are not to avenge themselves; especially when He makes use of them as His Instrument. God must be seen as the one in action, personalities involved should assume the position of an ordinary instrument in the hand of the Almighty. Romans 12:19 says:

“Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”

We as Children of God must never make any move to avenge ourselves under any circumstance. You can be sure that God will surely fight on your behalf according to His word. God will avenge His people upon their adversaries; He will not allow any unrepentant sinner to go unpunished. You must know that God does not want the death of any sinner; therefore, He will make ways for repentance by making a reasonably long period of grace available to sinners and adversaries alike. But you can be sure that at the right time, He will make good His promises to His people, and they will be avenged of their enemies. But, because His mercy endures forever, He will even send several warnings to the enemies to prompt then towards repentance as record in Isaiah 47:3:

“Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.”

But let the enemies not be encouraged by this to continue in wickedness, because God will surely avenge His elect, because they are so near and dear to Him. God has always been a witness to the rage and oppression of the enemies; He is a quiet listener to the threatening and arrogant boastings of these enemies. It does not please any father to watch his dear children being tormented, beaten, enslaved, burned alive, and killed, before his eyes. We are His beloved; He suffered and died by carrying out the ultimate sacrifice for our sakes. The compassionate and tender heart of a husband toward his betrothed wife cannot be over emphasized. Our Heavenly Father is always sharing in our affliction, and bitterness of soul, every time any of His children is being brutalized. God will avenge His own elect to convince the world of how grievous it has been FOR HIM to behold all the violence and cruelty wicked men have done unto His own people.

God will avenge His people because the days of the wicked must end, and the days of the saints must begin. Also, because the harvest of the prayers and cries of God’s elect is now ripe. Your deliverance is here, you can begin to celebrate Jesus. Praise God!

Prayer Point

Father, from today, I will stay quiet and watch you avenge me.

Thank You Jesus.

Do you Love God?

Do you Love God?

1-John_4-12: No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

1-John_4-12: No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

Memorise: So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. John 21:15

Read: Deuteronomy 6:4-7 (KJV)

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

MESSAGE:

In today’s Bible reading, Jesus asked a pointed question from Simon Peter, “lovest thou me more than these?” Jesus was not in doubt whether Peter loved Him; He was more interested in knowing the level of Peter’s commitment to Him when compared to other worldly things. Many truly love God, but they are more committed to other things like their profession, business, means of livelihood, fashion, sports, entertainment, food and delicacies, friends and family, social engagement, etc. Whenever God’s demand clashes with their interests, they will surely go for their interests. When the chips are down, God must play the second fiddle to the true love of their lives. In this respect, in Psalms 42:1, David says

“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.”

In the above passage, the Bible recorded the Psalmist speaking of his yearning for God. He compares his yearning for God to the extreme teaching of a dehydrated deer, whose need for water is shown by its panting. We know the hart or deer does not pant except when it is being chased by hunter or when it is highly dehydrated. Do you know that for many people, it is only when they are being hunted by the devil or situations of life that they remember God? When everything else is in place: the store is filled with rich varieties of food, the bank account is bubbling, the contracts are coming, the family members are well and making progress and ministry is moving on; the need to search for God never arises in the hearts of many. But when there is trouble: a child is sick, there is no food to eat, the business is experiencing dryness and there are several challenges in the ministry; then suddenly the one at the receiving end would remember that he or she has a God. If you seek God only when you are hunted, you are a God-user and not a God-lover. You can be sure God knows the difference and He will deal with His seekers accordingly. John 21:15 says:

“So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.”

It is possible to pursue God, not because you are in trouble but because you love Him. Anything can happen when you are in love. Songs of Solomon 2:5 says it is even possible to become sick because of love. If you have an intense love for God, you will go to any length for Him. God has created us to be capable of loving one another, particularly Him. If you find it difficult to truly love God, it is because something else or someone else has stolen your love. Material things have stolen the hearts of many people from God. If you have lost your first love – the original quality of love once expressed towards Him when you first knew the Lord, then ask Him to help you recover it. Are you panting after God because you are hunted or because of love? If love drives you to God, love will drive Him to you in return and He will give Himself to you without reservation. Do you love God more than anything in this world?

Prayer Point: Father, let my love for You grow stronger, and stronger, all the days of my life.

Thank You Jesus.

A Son Indeed?

A Son Indeed?

Psalms_1-3: And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper

Psalms_1-3: And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper

Memorise: Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. – Galatians 4:7

Read: 1 John 3:1-3 (KJV)

1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

MESSAGE:

In a previous teaching, I remember saying that a person can choose to be anything he or she wants before the Almighty God. You can just be a creature, a dog or a cow. You can go beyond being a mere creature to becoming a servant. Being a servant gives you more personal access to God. But you could go yet another step – to becoming a Son of God. Sons have tremendous opportunities that servants do not have. As a Son of God, you become a co-heir with Christ. That means all God’s possessions jointly belong to Jesus and you. Besides, John 8:35 says sons abide in the house forever. No wonder David in Psalms 23:6 says, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” He could say so because he had a son-ship relationship with the Lord. For such sons, even after leaving the planet earth, Jesus promises to prepare a mansion in His Father’s house for them to stay throughout eternity (John 14:1-3). Sons have eternal right to God’s house. Are you a son of God?

If you abide in God’s house, you will automatically flourish. – Psalms 92:13 says,

“Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.”

Beyond being rich or wealthy, you can flourish. Age will not erode your opportunities or harvest. In fact, the older you get, the more flourishing you become. This is not for those who visit God’s house. It is not for servant but for sons. Some people endure going into God’s house or presence. If they were asked to come for a big contact at 9am, they would be there by 7am. But if invited to meet with the King of kings for 8am, they will stroll into church by 10am. This attitude hinders people from attaining the heights they are meant to achieve. If you find it difficult to stay in God’s presence, you can be sure you cannot have access into His heavenly home. Those who will enter Heaven must desire to enter that city not made with hands (Hebrew 11:10,16). It far excels the best of planet earth; in fact it is simply incomparable. Do you qualify for Heaven? To what extent do you long for Heaven? How much do you crave to be in God’s presence? How much do you enjoy worshipping the Lord? May you make it to this glorious planet in Jesus’ name!

“Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.” – Psalms 92:13

Why should anyone having the opportunity to be a son, choose to be a servant? When you consider all the benefits of being a son of the Most High God here on earth, such as peace, security, divine provision, and abundant blessings; and then add those benefits waiting for us in heaven, then you wonder what is wrong with those that are fooling around with this wonderful opportunity to be identified as a child of the Most High God. Here is the good news! If you discover that your relationship with God is below that of a son, you can ask for an upgrade. Do a self examination today and take advantage of the opportunity to upgrade to son-ship.

Prayer Point: Father, please don’t let me ever live below the status of Your Son again in Jesus’ name.

Thank You Jesus!
