Let us pray that every enemy of our country shall be uprooted in Jesus name. Ps 143:12

 
Let us command that every ritual killer in Nigeria and anywhere ritual killing is still taking place be exposed and judged by God in Jesus name. Prov 26:27

 
Let us pray that everyone who is working against our country be put to shame. Ps 35:6

 
Let us pray that God will make our Leaders faithful leaders. 1 Tim 2:1-4

HOW TO OVERCOME TEMPTATION

Mark_14-38: Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak

James_1-12-1: Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him

TEXT: 1 Corinthians 10: 12-14.

 
INTRODUCTION:

Temptation is not sin but yielding to it is sin. How not to yield to temptations but overcome it is our focus today.

 
HOW TO OVERCOME TEMPTATION?

 
(i) By relying on the faithfulness of God. 1 Cor 10: 13; Heb 2: 18.

 
(ii) By using the word of God appropriately. Matt 4: 1-11; Ps 119: 11.

 
(iii) By fervent personal prayer. Matt 26: 41; Eph 6: 18.

 
(iv) By resisting. Jam 4: 7. Say No to the devil.

 
(v) By fleeing or avoiding every appearance of evil. 2 Tim 2: 22; 1 Thess 5: 22; Prov 4: 14-15; Ps 1: 1.

 
(vi) Discipline your thought, tongue and taste. Ps 34: 13.

 
CONCLUSION:

The charge of Jesus Christ to Peter, James and John at the Garden of Gethsemane is still relevant today. “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation…”

YOUR BIRTHRIGHT

2-Timothy_2-1-1: Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus

TEXT: Romans 8: 28-39.

 
INTRODUCTION:

A spiritual rebirth takes place at redemption and then one is said to be born again. This means we now have a new life in Christ. (i.e. a divine nature). This automatically gives us some basic right as children of God.

 
1. Right to divine health and healing. 3 Jn 2; Isa 53: 4-5. This refers not only to physical health alone but also mental, spiritual, emotional and financial.

 
2. Right to dominion. Col 2: 15; Gen 1: 26-27. The dominion lost by man as a result of sin was restored at redemption. Lk 10: 18-19.

 
3. Right to holiness. Obadiah 1: 17; Matt 5: 48; 1 Pet 1: 15-16; Rom 6: 14; Heb 12: 14; 1 Thess 5: 23.

 
4. Right to the Throne. Rom 8: 12-17. As sons of God, we are heirs to the Throne and so have some privileges such as standing uncondemned before God. Rom 8: 1; having His righteousness and access to the throne of grace. 2 Cor 5: 21; needs being met. Phil 4: 19; ability to do all things. Phil 4: 13; access to His rest. Heb 4: 1.

 
CONCLUSION:

God has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. 2 Pet 1: 3-4.

HOW TO RELEASE THE POWER OF PRAYERS

James_5-16: Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Matthew_21-22: And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

TEXT: Psalm 110: 1-5.

 
INTRODUCTION: Prayer is as powerful as the God that answers prayer. Therefore, prayers have the following powers:

 
POWER OF PRAYERS:

 
(i) Power to resist and defeat Satan. 1 Pet 5: 8-9; Jm 4: 7.

 
(ii) Prayer brings the presence of Christ into manifestation, overrules Satan and his demons and rules the universe. Ps 110: 1-3.

 
(iii) It has power to overrule the laws of nature. Jos 10: 12; Matt 14: 27-29.

 
(iv) It obtains angelic assistance. Ps 103: 20; Heb.1: 14; Acts.12: 1-11; Isa 37: 36. Among other things, angels protect from dangers. 2 Kgs 6: 17; renew physical strength. Lk 22: 43; bring messages to God’s children. Matt 28: 2-7.

 
RELEASING THE POWER OF PRAYERS

 
To release the power of prayers, we must

(i) know that prayers are for establishing the Lordship of Jesus Christ on earth and for bringing His will to come to pass. Ps 110: 1, 4; Matt 6: 10.

 
(ii) Be translated into the kingdom of Christ by being born again and getting committed to establishing it on earth. Jn 3: 3; Col 1: 13; Matt 24: 14; Acts 1: 6-8.

 
(ii) Practically get involved in praying both at a personal and corporate level. Ps 55: 17; Dan 6: 10; Acts 3: 1; Acts 12: 5.

 
CONCLUSION:

It is high time we stopped all lip services to prayers and got down to the all-important work of praying so that we can reign as God destined us.

Romans_12-12: Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God, Prayer Works, God Answers Prayers

A FAMILY IN ACTIVE WITNESS FOR THE LORD

Acts_1-8: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

TEXT: Matthew 10: 32-33.

 
INTRODUCTION:

God instituted marriage for the sole purpose of partnership, purity, procreation and fellowship. The Christian family is meant to actively witness the fulfillment of these purposes. The husband (father), wife (mother) and children must play their roles well as active witnesses of the Lord and together as the bedrock of the church of God.

 
IN ACTIVE WITNESS BY WORDS AND WORKS

 
As members of Christian homes, the father, mother and children are required to be active witnesses for Christ by words. Acts 2: 38-40, Jn 4: 28-29; 2 Kgs 5: 2-4.
Also, the entire family members are required to witness for Christ through their works/exemplary lifestyles.

 
Husband (Fathers) are required to witness Jesus Christ by being sober- minded, grave, temperate, sound in faith and love, patient and care for the home. Titus 2: 2; Eph 5: 25-33.

Wives (Mothers) should witness Jesus Christ by being holy, not false accusers, sober-minded, love their husbands and children, submissive and obedient to their husbands, discreet, keeper of home, home builder. Titus 2: 4-5; 1 Pet 3: 4-5; Eph 5: 22-24. Children should witness by being sincere, sober-minded to parents, be of good work, be of good speech, be of pure heart, devoid of evil. Titus 2: 6-8; Eph 6: 1-3.

 
CONCLUSION:

Believers in Christ – father, mother and children must witness Christ.

PRICE OF DISCIPLESHIP

Matthew_9-37: Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few

John_13-35: By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

INTRODUCTION:

No true discipleship is without a price and aspiration. This is our focus today.

 
GOALS OF DISCIPLESHIP

 
Your aspiration as a disciple of Jesus Christ is

 
(i) To translate precepts and principles received into practice and lifestyle.

 
(ii) To conform to the ideal of the Master.

 
(iii) To aspire not only to be like the Master but also to do greater works. Jn 14: 12.

 
PRICE OF DISCIPLESHIP

 
To be His disciple, there is a price to pay.

 
(i) Self denial. Matt 16: 24; Matt 19: 21-22.

 
(ii) Abandonment of one’s will for Christ’s

 
(iii) Inconvenience. Acts.10: 10-21.

 
(iv) A life of consecration to God. Exo 29: 9.

 
(v) Cross bearing. Matt 10: 38; Lk 14: 27

 
(vi) Separation from the world practice. 1 Jn 2: 16.

 
CONCLUSION:

No price is too much to pay to be His disciple.

DISCIPLESHIP

INTRODUCTION:

Discipleship begins when you get born again. As a follower of Jesus Christ you take Him as your Teacher and Model and strive to be like Him. Matt 11: 29; Rom 8: 29.
THE CHARACTER TRAITS OF A DISCIPLE
(i) Hearing the Master and following Him. Jn 10: 27.
(ii) Willing to forsake anything in order to follow the Master. Matt 4: 19-22.
(iii) Always available. Acts 9: 10.
(iv) Obedient. Acts 9: 10.
(v) Holy conversation and living. 1Pet 1: 15-16.
(vi) Humility. 1Pet 5: 6.

 
CAPABILITY OF A DISCIPLE
(i) He is able to personally hear from God. Acts 9: 10.
(ii) Win souls for Christ.
(iii) Preach with results. Acts 2: 40-41.
(iv) Perform miracles. Acts 8: 5-8.
(v) Disciple and train new and young converts. Rom 12: 1-4.
(vi) Grow and become fruitful.
(vii) Pray and be transformed in character, conduct and live like his Master. e.g. Paul. Rom 7: 15-25.

CONCLUSION: Are you a disciple?

Speak The Truth

John_8-32: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

John_14-6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me

Text:
James 3:1-12
My friends, not many of you should become teachers. As you know, we teachers will be judged with greater strictness than others.

2 All of us often make mistakes. But if a person never makes a mistake in what he says, he is perfect and is also able to control his whole being.

3 We put a bit into the mouth of a horse to make it obey us, and we are able to make it go where we want.

4 Or think of a ship: big as it is and driven by such strong winds, it can be steered by a very small rudder, and it goes wherever the pilot wants it to go.

5 So it is with the tongue: small as it is, it can boast about great things. Just think how large a forest can be set on fire by a tiny flame!

6 And the tongue is like a fire. It is a world of wrong, occupying its place in our bodies and spreading evil through our whole being. It sets on fire the entire course of our existence with the fire that comes to it from hell itself.

7 We humans are able to tame and have tamed all other creatures—wild animals and birds, reptiles and fish.

8 But no one has ever been able to tame the tongue. It is evil and uncontrollable, full of deadly poison.

9 We use it to give thanks to our Lord and Father and also to curse other people, who are created in the likeness of God.

10 Words of thanksgiving and cursing pour out from the same mouth. My friends, this should not happen!

11 No spring of water pours out sweet water and bitter water from the same opening.

12 A fig tree, my friends, cannot bear olives; a grapevine cannot bear figs, nor can a salty spring produce sweet water.

Introduction:
The tongue is a powerful organ of the body. It is so powerful that death and life, falsehood and truth proceed from it. Every true child of God is expected to speak the truth from his or her heart in order to be successful and victorious.

Characteristics Of A Lying Tongue
1. It speaks deception and projects destruction and mischief.
Psalm 52:2
You who practice deceit, your tongue plots destruction; it is like a sharpened razor.

2. It exhibits craftiness and evil devises.
Jeremiah 18:18
They said, “Come, let’s make plans against Jeremiah; for the teaching of the law by the priest will not cease, nor will counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophets. So come, let’s attack him with our tongues and pay no attention to anything he says.”

3. It spreads lies and iniquity uncontrollably.
Psalm 120:2
Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

4. It is controlled by evil forces.
John 8:44
You are the children of your father, the Devil, and you want to follow your father’s desires. From the very beginning he was a murderer and has never been on the side of truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he is only doing what is natural to him, because he is a liar and the father of all lies.

5. It defiles man.
Matthew 15:18
But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these are the things that make you ritually unclean.

6. It set traps for the innocent.
James 3:6
The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

7. Its end is in hell fire.
James 3:6

As surely as a north wind brings rain, so a gossiping tongue causes anger!

Conclusion:
Children of God are expected to be truthful so that they will remain shining light in the midst of darkness. Also speaking the truth will lead us to eternal life with Jesus!
