Be Encouraged: Jesus Is Coming!

We sometimes wonder where God is during the storms of life, in all the troubles of the world. Where is God? Why doesn’t He stop the evil? The Bible assures us that God will abolish evil when Christ returns. Someday He will come with shouts of acclamation, and there will be a joyous reunion of all those who have trusted in Him.

Jesus did not tell us when He is coming back. He said we were not to speculate. “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” (Matthew 24:36). The sixth chapter of Revelation gives a strikingly detailed portrait of the end times, but no one knows when these things will occur except the Father in heaven.

The Cross is life

The Cross Is Life by Billy Graham

A gospel that appeals to our reason or righteousness will always be popular, for people like to feel that we can circumvent the cross of Christ. The cross left no footing for man to stand upon. It put the responsibility of man’s redemption upon Christ. Had not man failed? And was he not and is he not continuing to fail? Hasn’t history proved that “there is none righteous, no, not one”? (Romans 3:10).

The cross comes with its mighty power to bring low as well as to exalt, for it exalts none but those whom first it humbles. It calls the pious worshiper to come down out of his ivory tower and to take his place at the cross with the outcast and the vile. It tells the earnest seeker and the anxious inquirer that by their own efforts they are made not one whit better until they put their hope fully in Him who was slain. It tells the sincere evangelical, whose mind is a treasury of orthodox doctrines, that he must stand beside the drunkard and harlot and say, God be merciful to me a sinner!” (Luke 18:13).

I realize that these are hard sayings, but the Bible says that the cross is an offense to the righteousness of man. The cross says that “all have sinned” (Romans 3:23). It decrees that every person, marred by sin, must be remade. It is more than pardon, for forgiveness cancels the old wrong but leaves a man where he is morally. It is even more than justification, for justification makes a man judicially worthy in the sight of God. The cross means life.

Prayer

Lord, forgive us for thinking that we can create our own righteousness. Help us to learn what it means to put our hope fully in Christ and to have life to the fullest. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Our Testimonies

Our testimonies

Acts 22:17-18

Now it happened, when I returned to Jerusalem and was praying in the temple, that I was in a trance and saw Him saying to me, ‘Make haste and get out of Jerusalem quickly, for they will not receive your testimony concerning Me.’
NKJV

In Acts chapter 22, Paul is sharing his testimony with an enraged group of Jews who were seeking to kill him. Notice, however, what Paul does NOT share in his testimony to these men. Paul isn’t saying anything about how difficult his life has been since he became a Christian. Certainly, he could have. Paul endured incredible hardships during his ministry. He was beaten many times; he was stoned with rocks, shipwrecked and imprisoned. Paul could easily have said, “Well, life’s been pretty hard since Jesus saved me. I’ve been beaten, shipwrecked and imprisoned and now, once again, people are trying to kill me.” Instead, Paul puts the focus on Jesus…and so should we. Brothers and sisters, when sharing your testimony, don’t talk about the difficulties in your life. Jesus told us that in this world we would have tribulation, but He didn’t stop there.

Jesus said, “Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33b NKJV

To talk about trials will only push people away. Talk about Jesus and salvation through Him.

Life Lesson: When sharing, always keep Jesus the focus. Keep the main thing, the main thing.

Dear Father,
Thank You for the life You have given me. Lord, when You bring me the opportunity to speak to someone about my testimony, help me to always keep Jesus the main thing. Please do not let my words get in the way, but let the Holy Spirit speak through me so that Jesus will be seen. Thank You for giving us Your Word to learn and obey. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen

God is looking at the good you have done in your life and encouraging you to continue

Godis looking at the good you have done in your life and encouraging   you to continueNehemiah 5:19 Think upon me, my God, for good, according all that I   have done. . . .

I want to give you an encouraging   word today that I wholeheartedly believe is from the Spirit of God. God wants   you to know today that He is focusing upon and remembering the good things   you have done. He sees the good in you! When Nehemiah led the effort to   rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, he asked the Lord to focus on the good he had   done. (Nehemiah 5:19) On multiple occasions, Nehemiah asked God to remember   and reward him for his good deeds (Neh. 13:22 & 31). Of course, the enemy   always wants us to believe that God is busy pointing out our mistakes.   However, God is not a finger pointer! The devil is the accuser and wants you   to think God doesn’t pay much attention to the good things you do. The devil   wants you to believe God focuses more on your shortcomings. That is the   farthest thing from the truth.

God is looking at the good you have   done in your life and encouraging you to continue.

He sees you through the blood of   Jesus. God is your biggest fan and wants you to continue doing what is right   so you can enjoy the harvest of something great that is destined to emerge   from your life.

So be confident because God is focusing on the good in you today. Just lift your hands to Him right now and like Nehemiah, say, “Lord, think upon me for good!”

Have you ever gotten discouraged by the apparent lack of results when you pray

Have you ever gotten discouraged by the apparent lack of results when you pray?

When it comes to prayer, too many Christians have tried and cried because they haven’t seen any results—and they’ve just given up on expecting much from God.

Whenever we pray, we’ve got to understand that we have a part and that God has a part (I Corinthians 3:9).

What is our part?

  1. 1.      Believe that receiving your full inheritance from God is as important to Him as it is to you.

In Acts 26:17—18 Jesus told Paul to “teach people to receive forgiveness of sins and their inheritance.” Jesus said it’s His will for you to receive your inheritance! We must believe it’s His will and His desire for us to receive everything He has for us.

  1. 2.      Ask God for the thing you need and desire.

Be specific! If you need an unsaved loved one saved, be specific — name that person to God. If you need a job, be specific about what kind of job and how much money it will earn. Jesus said in John 16:24, “Ask and you shall receive.James 4:2 says, “You have not because you ask not.

  1. Be sure you’re asking for the right things…

James 4:3 says, “You ask and do not receive because you ask amiss.” He tells us that when we miss the mark in what we ask for, we will not receive. Is what you’re asking for in the Word of God? I John 5:14 says, “If we ask anything according to the will of God, He hears us…

  1. 4.      Believe you received it the moment you ask, no matter what you see or feel

(Mark 11:24). This is walking by faith, not by sight (II Corinthians 5:7). You have to break the habit of only believing something when you see it. You must see what is invisible NOW and believe that it is yours — just as a pregnant woman knows there’s a baby in her— she hasn’t seen anything–but it’s there. She knows it’s there.

For we are God‘s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago

Jeremiah 18:4

“And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.”
NKJV

A mound of clay, by itself, is not a very beautiful thing. It may have some intrinsic value but in the end, it’s still a pile of dirt. That is, until the potter gets a hold of it. Once the potter gets involved, this pile of dirt begins to take shape. As the potter presses in, the clay becomes thinner. The potter then reaches into the center and is able to scoop out all the excess clay within. While the clay began as a formless pile of dirt, it ends up as a beautiful masterpiece.

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” NLT

When God found us, we were like the clay–dirty and formless. We may have tried to mould ourselves but only the potter is able to mould the clay. Once the heavenly Potter came into our lives, He began moulding and shaping us into the image of His Son, Jesus. With each firm press of His hand, we are changed. With every scrape of His tools, sin falls from our life. This is our Heavenly Father at work and while it is painful, it is worth it. God knows what we need and He is the perfect potter who’s loving hands will sculpt our lives into something far greater than we could every understand. All we have to do is let Him.

Life Lesson: God desires to make a masterpiece of your life.

My Heavenly Potter Lord,
I am sorry for my resistance to Your hands in my life. I know that I need to be moulded more into Your image, and I ask that You would place my life onto Your potter’s wheel. Carve off the sin in my life and shape me into a vessel that can be used for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Teaching and Learning

Teaching & Learning

“This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, ‘Rabbi, we know that You are a
teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do, unless God is
with him.'”
-John 3:2

Two nights ago, I went to the local 24-hr. chain pharmacy to pick up a small bottle
of shampoo. With shampoo in hand, I lined up at the normal location to wait for
a clerk behind a cash register. When I got to the front of the line, a nice man,
a store employee, waved me over to one of their new “self-checkout” stations.

This was not the first time I’d approached one of these machines. In fact, I’d successfully
negotiated similar self-checkout stations at the grocery store and a large building
supply store. When I looked at the new screen at the pharmacy’s register, it looked
different than the other two I’d encountered…so, while I was taking in the differences,
and almost ready to reach out to touch the “start” button, the nice man quickly
reached in front of me to punch the button instead. “This is easy,” he said. “You’ll
get the hang of it before you know it.” When the next screen appeared, his quick
hand was there to punch again, for me. I saw, briefly, the “complete transaction
and pay” button I was supposed to punch…but, for the third time, his hand was
quicker than mine was. He tossed my shampoo in a bag, ripped my receipt from the
machine, smiled as he handed me the bag, and said, “See? Nothing to it!”

As I walked out the door, I found myself thinking about teachers and teaching. Did
this nice man really think he had taught me how to use his new machine? In reality,
he had taught me nothing. Instead, he’d done everything for me.

Jesus was a teacher, too. Many called Him by this name – Teacher. Yes, He guided
persons towards their own positive conclusions regarding the Kingdom of God through
the stories and parables He told…as well as the miracles He performed. He guided
the disciples as they, too, performed miracles – but, always, in His name.

However, there was one time, one event, when even the Teacher Jesus had to do it
all for us – when He reached between you and God Almighty with His loving, pierced
hands. Only He and He alone could die upon the cross. Only He and He alone, could re-establish our pathways to God’s heart of love.

PRAYER:

Lord, YOU teach me, and model for me, a perfect love. I cannot be perfect…but
help me, Lord, to teach those around me more about You, today. Amen.

The presence of fear does not mean you have no faith. Just Believe

The presence of fear doesn’t mean you have no faith. Just Believe

Those who know Your name trust in You; for You, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek You. Psalm 9:10

The presence of fear doesn’t mean you have no faith!

My dad loved to fish for trout on the edge of the white water rivers of the Rockies. He knew the currents were dangerous and that his sons could be careless. He’d scout out the safe places to cross the river. He’d walk us down the bank until we found a line of stable rocks. He’d test the stones, knowing if they held him, they’d hold us. Then he’d signal us to follow.

“Don’t be afraid—trust me!” he’d say. And we children never needed coaxing.

But we adults often do! Does a river of fear run between you and OUR Lord Jesus Christ? If you wave our Lord Jesus away, joy will die; laughter will perish, and tomorrow will be buried in today’s grave of dread. Don’t make that mistake.

Give the day a chance. Believe He can. Believe He cares. Just—believe!

Satan didn’t know it; the first Christmas was just around the corner

Satan didn’t know it; the first Christmas was just around the corner!

Determined to Make a Way

And the Lord said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this,
thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the
field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the
days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman,
and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head and thou
shalt bruise his heel.

Genesis 3:14,15

In this passage, God is addressing satan directly. Satan must have thought, “Wait a minute. A woman doesn’t have a seed. The man carries
the seed. What does God mean by the ‘seed of woman’?”

God was giving a hint to satan that the seed of woman was going to
regain total authority and was going to bruise his rock-hard head. It
was safe to give the devil hints because he doesn’t have revelation
(and he definitely doesn’t know all things, as his Creator does).

All satan knew was that something or someone would be coming on a
mission from God to do battle with him and that he had better get ready
for it! God knew that to have authority in this planet at all, His
emissary would have to possess the full image of expression available
on this planet. That meant He would have to be born here in a human
body. God was unwilling to allow the man He had made to fall. God was
determined to make a way. Satan didn’t know it, but the first Christmas
was just around the corner!

Prayer for Today

Father,
I magnify Your name for making a way, for regaining authority. Again
and again, You make a way for me when there seems to be no way, and I
praise You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Lies!

MORE THAN JUST WORDS

Matthew 5:33, “But let your communication be, Yea, yea: Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.”

MATTHEW 5:33-37

A person who has to swear or make a promise to validate his statements is a person whose word is no good. The thrust of Jesus’ teaching here is that we should live in such a manner that no one would ever have to have additional proof that we are telling the truth. Our word should be our bond.

We have all heard the story of the young shepherd boy who cried wolf when there was no wolf until finally no one believed him when the wolf really came. Our lack of integrity in performing our word has the same effect on people today.

Very few people conduct business anymore with their word and a handshake. Even contracts are not sacred if an individual can afford a good enough lawyer. But this is not the way God intended it.

God has fulfilled every word He has ever spoken. We were created in His image and He planned for us to be the same way. Even our physical bodies respond adversely when we lie. That’s why lie detectors work.

Today, commit yourself to be a new man or woman of your word. You will not only experience a new respect from others, but you will find the joy of a clear heart and mind.
