Your name is a confession

Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee (Genesis 17:5).

All over the world, people bear names that represent different things, some names represent personalities, landmarks or events, and they’re handed down from one generation to another. Many times, Christians have found themselves bearing names that contradict what they believe. Those names were handed to them by their forbears, and not many ever bothered to find out the meaning of those names to be sure they’re consistent with who we are today in Christ Jesus.

It’s no use answering the name that contradict what you believe about the Gospel and who you are in Christ Jesus, for it can work against you. The name you answer is a major confession in your life. As you answer that name you’re continually confessing the meaning of that name. if you study the Bible, you’ll notice how God changed the names of several people. Before their names were changed, they lived the life of the name they bore. When God changed their names, their destinies also changed.

Abraham, for example, which means father of many, used to be called Abram, meaning “exalted or assumed father” (Genesis 17:5). He and his wife were without a child until their names changed to Abraham and Sarah. Isaac’s son Jacob is another example. His name meant “one that takes by heel; deceiver”. In today’s rendition, that would mean, “swindler, fast guy, or scammer.” Of course, he grew up to answer his name; he deceived his father, cheated his brother, and remained a cheat until God met him and changed his name (Genesis 32:27-28).

To answer a name means that you agree to, confess and endorse the meaning and import of that name in your life. That’s why you ought to answer only names that are consistent with God’s purpose for you; names that glorify God’s Word and are consistent with your identity and position as a new creation in Christ Jesus.

Follow the Directions

by Pastor Andre Butler

Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and

cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when

thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that

take, and give unto them for me and thee

Mathew 17:27

Look at this example of how God is able to provide with abundance, even

for paying tax. Jesus told Peter to take a hook, throw it in the

water, take the first fish that took the hook, open his mouth, and find

four days wages.

Notice two things. First, God gave this fish specific directions. The

fish had to go down to the bottom of the sea, eat the gold coin, swim

over to the shore, and wait. When the hook came, he had to jump on it.

Secondly, Peter had to be obedient to God’s specific instructions.

When you start worrying about how and what’s going to happen, you take

your focus off God and start looking for the person you think God’s

going to use. Forget the how—just know Who! God is more than able to

give you what you need and more. He is able to make you rich!

At the end of every trial – lies the blessing of God

The Lord Wept

At the end of every trial – lies the blessing of God.

James 1:12 “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”

When temptations, trials and tribulations come into your life you need to be resolute, standing firm, knowing that at the end of every trial lies the blessing of God and the manifestation of His promises over your life.

God will use what you put at His disposal to allow things to come into your life

God will use what you put at His disposal to allow things to come into your life

God will use what you have at His disposal.

Proverbs 6:6-11 “Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise,

7 Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler,

8 Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest.

9 How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep?

10 A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep—

11 So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, And your need like an armed man.”

While God has promised to supply all your need according to His riches in glory, you need to realize that you still have a part to play. God will use what you put at His disposal to allow things to come into your life. As an example, He will use your business to channel finances into your life. He will use your faith, mixed with action to bring blessings and provision into your life.

Be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Filled with the Holy Spirit

Ephesians 5:18, NIV

God has clearly commanded you and me to “be filled with the Spirit.” But an unconfessed sin or resistance to His authority will block the “flow” of His life within us. If we do not deal with it, our spiritual lives become stagnant and we lose our attractiveness and usefulness to God. And we have nothing refreshing about us that would draw other people to Christ.

What is hindering you from being filled with the Holy Spirit? To be filled with the Holy Spirit is to be under His moment-by-moment control. He has not been given to you so that you can keep Him confined to a particular area in your life. Let Him loose! He is Lord! The amount of power you experience to live a victorious, triumphant Christian life is directly proportional to the freedom you give the Spirit to be Lord of your life!

Acts 2:2-4, NKJV

On The Wings Of Faith

I understand that a turkey and an eagle react differently to the threat of a storm. A turkey reacts by running under the barn, hoping the storm won’t come near. On the other hand, an eagle leaves the security of its nest and spreads its wings to ride the air currents of the approaching storm, knowing they will carry it higher in the sky than it could soar on its own.

Based on your reaction to the storms of life, which are you?

A turkey or an eagle?

It’s natural for me to be a turkey in my emotions, but I have chosen to be an eagle in my spirit. And as I have spread my wings of faith to embrace the “Wind,” placing my trust in Jesus and Jesus alone, I have experienced quiet, “everyday” miracles:

His joy has balanced my pain.

His power has lifted my burden.

His peace has calmed my worries.

So . . . would you spread your wings of faith and soar?!

I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. —Philippians 4:11

I have learned in  whatever state I am, to be content. —Philippians 4:11Now that my   daughter is learning to talk, she has adopted a favorite word: more.   She will say “more” and point to toast with jam. She held out her palm and   said “More!” when my husband gave her some coins for her piggy bank. She even   exclaimed, “More Daddy!” one morning after her father left for work.

Like my little   one, many of us look around and call for “more.” Unfortunately, enough is   never enough. We need the power of Christ to break the cycle so that we can say   with Paul, “I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content” (Phil.   4:11).

The phrase “I   have learned” tells me that Paul did not meet every situation with a smile.   Learning contentment required practice. His testimony included ups and downs   ranging from snake bites to soul-saving; false accusations to founding   churches. Yet he claimed that Jesus was the answer to soul-level   satisfaction. He said, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens   me” (v.13). Jesus had given him the spiritual muscle to endure lean times and   to avoid the pitfalls of abundance.

If you find   yourself angling for “more, more, more,” remember that contentment comes when   you have “more” of Christ. —Jennifer Benson Schuldt

Fret not for want   of earthly things;
They’ll never satisfy.
The secret of contentment is
To let the Lord supply. —D. De Haan

True contentment is not dependent on anything in this world.

Honour God with your first fruits

Fruits

Proverbs 3:9-10 “Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with

the first fruits of all your increase; So your barns will be

filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.”

Honoring God, with your possessions, is one of the most

Important principles to positioning yourself in the blessing of

God. Honor means to place someone in high esteem; to put them

first in your life. God has to come first when it comes to your

finances. In honoring God you will find His blessing poured out

over your life.

Learning to Wait God‘s Way

David was the anointed king of Israel, but before he could enjoy the realization of God’s promises, he had to go through a season of testing and waiting. During this time, he was forced to hide out in caves and literally run for his life. King Saul, who was bent on David’s destruction, continually hunted for him. Perhaps the Lord has given you a promise through His Word. You are ready to see it unfold, but it hasn’t happened yet. Though you have waited, it seems that there is no hope on the horizon. Remember, God’s timing is perfect.

He knows what you need, when you need it. He knows that if we are going to learn how to walk with Him in the daylight or the good times, we must learn first to trust Him in times of darkness.

At some point, each of us has waited for God’s promises to come. David may have wondered when the Lord would open the door to blessing. However, he never allowed his thoughts to turn to doubts. In fact, in Psalm 18:17, 19, he praises God for the victory he knew would be his one day. “(God) delivered me from my strong enemy, and from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me … He brought me forth also into a broad (or spacious) place, He rescued me, because He delighted in me.”

When God delivers you from trial and trouble, you can be sure that He will bring you out into a spacious place of joy and delight – one that also will glorify Him and add encouragement to your life. Have you been pushing and shoving in an effort to move God on to the place where you think you should be? If so, stop and be determined to wait on God. The time you spend waiting in darkness will one day be rewarded by the Father of lights (James 1:17).
