Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled

Matthew 5:6

Healing begins when you do something. God’s help is near and always available, but it’s given to those who seek it. Healing starts when you take a step. God honours radical, risk-taking faith.

When arks are built, lives are saved. When soldiers march, Jerichos tumble.

When staffs are raised, seas still open. When a lunch is shared, thousands are fed.

And when a garment is touched by the hand of an anemic woman in Galilee—Jesus stops!

He stops and responds.

Compared to God’s part, our part is minuscule—but necessary. We don’t have to do much, but we do have to do something! Faith with no effort is not faith at all!

Write a letter. Ask forgiveness.

Call a counsellor. Call a mom!

Visit a doctor. Be baptized.

Feed a hungry person.

Pray. Teach. Go.

God honours radical, risk-taking faith. And He will respond.

May the LORD bless Nigeria, American and Israel and take care of us; May the LORD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

Do Not Worry

Luke 12:22 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…”

Have you ever had a big moment clouded by some unexpected
circumstance? Everything you planned ahead about and were excited to share was overshadowed by one new stress after the other.

It’s like one minute the seas are calm, the next it’s the fifty year storm. In times like these it can be difficult to keep a level head.

Often we’re filled with frustration and anger and don’t know where to turn. Although it isn’t the easiest thing to do, this verse is spot on. Worry won’t bring us a better situation, it will only worsen our circumstances.

God commands us not to worry because He wants us to trust Him fully. He wants our attention not our worries. When life throws you a curveball don’t retreat, re-adjust.

Recognize that God is still in control and He wasn’t the least bit surprised by your situation. Think about it like this…

Have you ever heard an actor after winning an Oscar go on to thank worry? How about an athlete after winning a championship? Probably not, right?

That’s because worry won’t ever solve your problems. God knew this from the beginning and set out to keep us from falling into its trap. If you’ve been struggling to find peace, check your mind for worry and let go of it. Your best days are still in front of you. Trust God and ask Him for His guidance and He will not abandon you.

May the LORD bless Nigeria, American and Israel and take care of us; May the LORD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

Today, let the Word Of God come and abide in you

John 15:3 says: “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.” The Bible also says in Psalm 119:9 “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to Thy word.” We live holy lives. We have been washed in the blood of Jesus. His Word – as we allow it to come in by reading, study, meditation, and by books and CDs – cleanses us and washes us from unbelief, fear, presumption, questions, divisions, offense, hatred, and anger. How? By the God who is in it. As we bring the Word of God in to cleanse us, it sanctifies us, washes us from all sin, and causes us to become like Him. Today, let the Word come and abide in you. Think on it, meditate on it, search it, listen to it, read it, and see the effect of the power of abiding in Him and His Word abiding in you.

Let the Word in!

May the LORD bless Nigeria, American and Israel and take care of us; May the LORD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

God is Absolute Truth

A Young Radical

“The Word Of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword….it exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God.” (Hebrews 4:12-13)

Many years ago, I was speaking at a large university. A young radical student, who was the head of the Communist Party on campus, confronted me. He railed at me, because I was encouraging students to follow Christ.

Rather than argue, I invited him to come to our home for dinner. After dessert I said, “I want to read something to you from the Bible.” He reacted with obvious irritation. “I have read the Bible from cover to cover,” he exclaimed. “It’s a ridiculous book. It’s filled with contradictions, lies and myths.”

I replied, “If you don’t mind, I will read it anyway.”

I read to him from John, chapter 1: “Before anything else existed, there was Christ, with God. He has always been alive and is Himself God. He created everything there is — nothing exists that He didn’t make. Eternal life is in Him, and this life gives light to all mankind …” (The Living Bible)

When I concluded reading, he said, “Let me see that.” He read it thoughtfully, then handed the Bible back to me without comment.

Then I turned to Colossians, Chapter 1, which records, “Christ is the exact likeness of the unseen God….” (The Living Bible)

He was very sober. After reading a couple of other passages, he was obviously very moved. His entire countenance had changed.

Later, as he stood to leave, I asked him if he would sign our guest book. He penned these words, which I shall never forget: “The night of decision,” a decision to follow Christ.

Your View of God Really Matters …

When someone asks you if you believe if Jesus really is the only way to God, do you duck, argue or do you read (or quote) them Jesus’ very own words from the Bible? Who has greater credibility: you or Jesus? Today, let Jesus speak through you.

What More Does God Say?

Hebrews 4:12-13; Isaiah 55:9-11; Isaiah 40:8; Philippians 1:15-18

Because God is absolute truth, I will believe what He says and live accordingly

Labels and Pigeonholes

“Jesus touched lepers and loved foreigners and spent so much time with partygoers that people called him a lush, a friend of the riffraff. Matt. 11:19” MSG

Labels… He’s an alcoholic! (Translation: Why can’t he control himself!)

She’s divorced! (Translation: She has a lot of baggage!)

Labels relieve us of responsibility. Pigeonholing permits us to wash our hands and leave.

Jesus took an entirely different approach. He was all about including people! John 1:14 says in plain language, “The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood.”

Racism couldn’t keep Jesus from the Samaritan woman. Demons couldn’t keep him from the demoniac. The Bible confirms that when the time came, Jesus set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave.

You and I are going to come across some discarded people. Tossed out. Sometimes by a church. And we get to choose.

Neglect or rescue? Label them or love them?

We know Jesus’ choice! Let’s follow his example!

May the LORD bless Nigeria, American and Israel and take care of us; May the LORD make His face shine upon us, And be gracious to us; May the Lord lift up His countenance upon us, And give us peace, In Jesus Christ Name, we pray! Amen!

God has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary

God has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary

READ: Isaiah 50:4-10

God has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. —Isaiah 50:4

The people of Israel were struggling. They had been taken captive by the Babylonians and forced to live in a country far from home. What could the prophet Isaiah give these weary people to help them?

He gave them a prophecy of hope. It was a message from God relating to the promised Messiah. In Isaiah 50:4, the Saviour Himself described the comfort and consolation He would one day bring: “The Lord God has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary.”

These were words of dual comfort—both to the people in exile and to future generations whose lives would be touched by Jesus’ compassion. In the Gospels we see how Christ fulfilled the prophecy with “a word in season to him who is weary.” To the crowds who followed Him, Christ proclaimed: Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28). Words of compassion indeed!

Jesus left us an example of how to minister to people who have grown weary. Do you know someone who needs a timely word of encouragement or the listening ear of a concerned friend? A word of comfort to the weary can go a long way. —Dennis Fisher

Neither life nor death can ever
From the Lord His children sever,
For His love and deep compassion
Comforts them in tribulation. —Berg

Compassion is needed to heal the hurts of others.

You are won to win others, go out and win a soul today

You are won to win others, go out and win a soul today

In need of deliverance?

Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. (John 15:2)

As seen in Revelation 3:8 and according to 2 Corinthians 12:9, if your strength is small but Jesus is with you, you will achieve more than the fellow who has greater strength but lacks His backing. When God backs you, He will make things easy for you. In addition, if He is the One who opened that door for you, no matter what the enemies do, they will not be able to shut it. God can open to you the door of missionary opportunity. From the example of Apostle Paul, while at Ephesus, the Lord opened opportunities to win souls to Him in spite of the opposition. One way God rewards soul winners is by creating more opportunities to witness. For those who are shy to preach the Gospel, know that the most challenging step is to win the first soul. You will find soul winning much more easier after you take in your first catch. It is commonly said that practice makes perfect. When you win souls, the anointing to rake in more is released. When last did you win souls to Christ?

Moreover, you will also notice that the more you turn down an opportunity to win souls to Christ, the more difficult it becomes to speak to the next soul that comes your way. When this continues, satan will permanently shut your mouth for a whole month, or for a period. This is bondage! If the mouth the Lord gave to you to declare Him to men is used for everything else other than that, you are in bondage. A lot of Christians have been delivered from sin but need deliverance from the spirit of fear refraining them from preaching the Gospel. Do not deceive yourself that you are pleasing God when you do not win souls. You displease God big time! If your position as a pastor is the excuse for not winning souls, it is better you quit that office and regularly win souls than retain the office without winning souls.

You are won to win others. Go out and win a soul today!

May Our God The Almighty prosper Nigeria and Israel and defend us from all our enemies in Jesus Christ Name, Amen!

Investing in People

Investing in People

The day of the Lord will come like a thief . . . and the   earth and its works will be burned up. Since all these things are to be   destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct   and godliness (2 Peter3:10-12).In our economy today it is very important to start saving   for retirement early. Those who are present-day oriented will just spend   money, but those who are future-oriented will invest. That’s the difference   between immaturity and maturity: the immature spend, and the mature save for   tomorrow.Jesus’ parable in Luke 16 demonstrates that the sons of   darkness are often wiser than the children of light because they are   future-oriented. If men are willing to do that in finite time, how much more   should Christians “make friends for yourselves . . . [who] will receive   you into the eternal dwellings” (v. 9)? God tells us to wisely use our   stewardship in something that has eternal value: people.

When we stand before Christ, He is going to play a cosmic   video, reviewing our life from salvation to death. We will see how   responsibly we used the time, talents, and treasures God gave us, and how   good or bad our stewardship was for Him. We will see the impact we had on   other people and how much we invested in others for eternity.

In verse 9, Jesus told us to make friends. How do we do   this? We make friends by sharing the Gospel so that those we know have an   opportunity to hear it. We must see that people are important in God’s   economy. God measures our effect on people not by how many dollars we have in   the bank, but by how we have used our time, talents, and treasures to invest   in the eternal destiny of people.

Either God will reign over your time, talents, and   treasures, or you will make them your god.

May God Almighty prosper Nigeria   and Israel and defend them from all their enemies in Jesus Christ Name, Amen!

The hope of surrender

Stained glass at St John the Baptist's Anglica...

The hope of   surrender

Luke writes, “Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in   favor with God and men.” (Luke 2:52) We know very little about the years   that Jesus spent growing into manhood. However, we can surmise that He grew   emotionally, mentally, and physically. Like us, God’s Son had to develop, and   we can imagine that while He was sinless, He learned how to live through the   circumstances of life.

There are many people today who are suffering – not because they have   sinned or resisted God, but because the Lord has chosen to develop their   lives through difficulty and hardship. In the first chapter of 2 Corinthians,   Paul does not gloss over the fact that he suffered. At one point, he believed   there was a strong possibility that he would die. However, God spared his life,   and Paul was able to write about the hardships he faced with such hope that   many who read his letters also declared faith in Jesus Christ.

God cannot mold and shape our lives unless we are willing to surrender   and to be transparent before Him. These are prerequisites to experiencing a   breakthrough in our trials and sufferings. We have no idea of the   difficulties that Christ faced as a young man – the Gospels do not record   them. Yet, we know that as an adult, He suffered and died on the cross for   our sins so that we might have eternal life. He was not ashamed of the   calling that God had given Him. Now, all glory is His, and He is seated at   the right hand of the Father interceding in prayer for us each day.

Stop looking at the trials of your life with thoughts of regret and   horror. Learn to rest in God’s care, and allow Him to work in your life to   the fullest. When you do, you will discover that He has a tremendous blessing   waiting for you. Not only will you grow to be like Him, you will be a   testimony of His grace and hope to a troubled world.

May God Almighty prosper Nigeria and Israel and defend them from all their enemies in Jesus Christ Name, Amen!

Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Soul winning

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16)

God’s number one passion is soul winning! This is the reason He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world, not to reach out to the plants, mountains and animals, which are important, but to the world of humans. His great concern for humans is understandable; He made man in His own image and likeness which accounts for His burning desire to have men receive eternal life.

His overwhelming passion to reconcile men to Himself is highlighted in the assignment He gave to Jesus. He gave Jesus the most important job in the world – preaching the Gospel and bringing eternal life to men. Jesus buttressed this when He declared in John 10:10, “….I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

The Lord Jesus Christ has in turn passed on The Father’s passion unto the Church. He said in Mark 16:15, “…Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”  As a Christian, above everything else, you must take the responsibility of taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth seriously. Always remember this and do your utmost to fulfil Our Father’s Passion!

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for entrusting me with the divine responsibility of reaching my world with the message of eternal life. Thank You for the great privilege and honour to be able to share this divine truth of the Gospel. As I do this today, men and women are delivered from the bondage of darkness into the glorious liberty of the sons of God, in Jesus Christ Name! Amen!
