Satan didn’t know it; the first Christmas was just around the corner!

Determined to Make a Way

And the Lord said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this,
thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the
field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the
days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman,
and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head and thou
shalt bruise his heel.

Genesis 3:14,15

In this passage, God is addressing satan directly. Satan must have thought, “Wait a minute. A woman doesn’t have a seed. The man carries
the seed. What does God mean by the ‘seed of woman’?”

God was giving a hint to satan that the seed of woman was going to
regain total authority and was going to bruise his rock-hard head. It
was safe to give the devil hints because he doesn’t have revelation
(and he definitely doesn’t know all things, as his Creator does).

All satan knew was that something or someone would be coming on a
mission from God to do battle with him and that he had better get ready
for it! God knew that to have authority in this planet at all, His
emissary would have to possess the full image of expression available
on this planet. That meant He would have to be born here in a human
body. God was unwilling to allow the man He had made to fall. God was
determined to make a way. Satan didn’t know it, but the first Christmas
was just around the corner!

Prayer for Today

Father,
I magnify Your name for making a way, for regaining authority. Again
and again, You make a way for me when there seems to be no way, and I
praise You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You Are A Victor

You Are A Victor

Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl
of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over
every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Genesis 1:26
Too many people want to blame God for the bad things that happen in this life. You hear a lot of people say, “If God is in control, He’s
not doing a great job. If He is in control, then why is He allowing
earthquakes to shake our cities and kill thousands? Why does God allow
floods and hurricanes? Why does God allow war, poverty, child abuse,
and murder?”
But God gave the authority of this planet to man. He made man the “god”
of this world because every created thing on earth was subservient to
him. He also gave mankind the power of choice with the opportunity to
mess up or to succeed.

Adam was essentially given an open-ended lease over the Garden of Eden
and the earth during which time mankind would have total authority in
the earth. It was an “if/then” agreement, and the “if” part involved honouring God’s single limitation. Adam could yield authority to others,
or he could operate in that authority himself-it was his choice. That
meant that God was saying, in essence, “I give my man the authority to
operate this planet. Go ahead and operate!”

Prayer for Today

Father,
I give you all glory and honour and praise! You alone are worthy! Thank
you for being victor over every the enemy and for having all power and
all authority. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Follow God’s Lead

Follow God‘s Lead
by Bishop Keith A. Butler

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:6

You may say, “What’s the problem with making a few decisions on my own
here and there?” The problem is that God’s Word says, “There is a way
which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of
death” (Proverbs 14:12). The big difference between directing things
yourself and allowing God to direct you really shows up when things go
wrong.

If you are on God’s path and trouble comes your way, you can go to
God’s Word and declare, “I am standing on Your Word and obeying Your
will, Lord. I am doing what You said, and I am expecting by faith that You will do what Your Word says.” You can stand on the Word, and having
done all, keep standing (see Ephesians 6:13, 14). You will get
deliverance in times of trouble when He directs your path.

Things aren’t so positive when you direct yourself into something and
trouble catches up with you. You have nothing to stand on except your
own words, and you will go down with the ship. Don’t tell yourself,
“Well, that was Adam and Eve falling for satan’s trick! I would never
do that.” Are you that much smarter than the first man and woman God
created? I doubt that!

Prayer for Today

Father,
I commit myself to staying in your Word and following your ways. I
stand in your strength and hold fast to your hand. In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

Give Choices, Give Limits

Give Choices, Give Limits

by Bishop Keith A. Butler

Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with
the rod, he shall not die. Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and
shalt deliver his soul from hell.
Proverbs 23:13,14

Children need a healthy balance of choices made within a few important
boundaries, but parents must be strong on both sides of the equation.
Parents must give children choices, and give children limits. If all
you give them are choices, they will spend the rest of their lives pressing against authority in all of its forms, seeking the limits they
instinctively know are there.

The younger the child, the greater the limits. As the child grows, the
more choices you give him or her while still maintaining God‘s
standards in your home until that child is able to make Word-informed
choices on their own before God. Parents, if anyone lives in your house
and is unwilling to follow the rules you establish for your household,
they have to go. Let them set up their own house, whether they are
sixteen or sixty-six.

The Holy Spirit helps us grow into maturity by encouraging us to make
choices freely according to the truths in God’s Word and the voice of
the Spirit within our hearts. God always preserves our power of choice,
and He delights when we willingly lay down our freedom in order to draw
close to Him as our Father, just as lovers willingly lay down their
freedom in order to commit to one another in marriage.

Prayer for Today

Father,
Thank you for life! Thank you for your Word! You are worthy of praise
and honor for loving the world enough to give us both freedom and
limits. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God’s Wise Rules

God‘s Wise Rules
by Bishop Keith A. Butler

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the lord thy God with all thy
heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the
first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou
shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang
all the law and the prophets.
Matthew 22:37-40

When Christ is king, hearts are changed. That is why Jesus taught the
Jews that only two rules need apply. When man is king, you need an
ever-growing mountain of laws, rules, regulations, limitations,
specifications and legal documentation to keep up with all the vices
the human heart can conceive.

God’s way-the way of choices plus only the most necessary
limitations-is always risky, and it always takes faith. Man’s way of
extreme choice and no limitations (anarchy), or of extreme limits and few, if any, choices (totalitarianism) seems to have few risks, and it
takes and allows for no faith. Its end is always the same-death to the
spirit.
The Christian life is a life of relationship with the living God, not a
life of following a book of rules. Once you know Him and discover
through His Word what He has done for you, you will delight to do His
will. It is no burden to live a righteous life in Christ because your
love motivates you to please Him in all things.

Prayer for Today

Father,
I praise you that your ways are higher! Your ways are wiser! Your ways
bring blessings! In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The One Choice That Led to Death

The One Choice That Led to Death

by Bishop Keith A. Butler

And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the

judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many

offences unto justification.

Romans 5:16

The first instance of God saying something and it not being done

occurred after God gave a limit to Adam, and satan challenged Eve about

whether God had really said it. In the end, Adam openly disobeyed the

one limit God placed on his existence and purpose in Paradise. As a

consequence, Adam and Eve were ejected from the garden and gave up

their crowns for the yoke of death.

Again, it wasn’t God’s choice; it was a human one. It is still that

way. Our choices always have consequences. God chose to risk everything

by giving us the power of choice in the hope that we would choose His

way freely and from the heart.

God gave Adam one boundary and countless free choices outside that

boundary. Humankind tends to set up countless boundaries and provide

only a few limited choices-especially when God has been removed from

the center of their lives.

Prayer for Today

Father,

I praise you for loving me enough to set boundaries, for loving me

enough to show me the good path which leads to life. Thank you for your

Word which gives light to my way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The power of choice has a good side and a bad side to it

The power of choice has a good side and a bad side to it

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it

was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise,

she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her

husband with her; and he did eat.

Genesis 3:6

The power of choice has a good side and a bad side to it. It is simple:

You enjoy the good benefits every time you make a good choice and you

suffer the negative consequences every time you make a bad choice.

Adam knew better than to violate the one limitation God gave him, yet

he did it anyway. In that moment, another principle was revealed as

well: The higher you rise in any organization, family or society, the

more people will be affected by your choices-for better or for worse.

No matter how much we demand it, dream about it or wish it wasn’t so,

God’s plan for man does not allow us to live in a vacuum. He created us

to weep together, rejoice together and experience birth and death

together. This is what it means to be a human being created in the

image of the triune God who is One.

Prayer for Today

Father,

Thank you for your forgiveness and for your grace which redeems the

years the locusts have eaten and gives me hope and a future. Thank you

for placing me in a family and in the body of Christ. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
